I don't want to be pulled out. I know what I love and I am confident in my look! Those "trends" fly in and out. A simple capsule wardrobe makes it easier to chose what to wear and ensures I always look my best.
When I was 40, a customer told me that at age 40 you stop caring what other people think. I really thought about that and it is true that by then, you know what you like and what you don’t in all aspects of life . So 30 years later and semi retired, I look forward to shopping and staying current . Makes me feel younger to get some jeans and a blazer on with snakeskin booties and maybe a hat. Thanks for taking us with you to Spain! 💙

what I notice here in budapest as opposed to canada is no track pants or yoga pants unless your exercising

It seems like America/Canada are very attached to workout clothing, sweatpants, etc and Europeans are more dressy. Or if I see track pants in European street style they will dress them up with a trench coat or something stylish. I'm kind of depressed by American style because if you don't live in a major city, it seems like everyone just wears t-shirts, sweats and skinny jeans.
Almost a year after OP's comment and I'm SO weary of seeing athleisure clothing on people. Beginning to think there's a certain type of female that is convinced she looks super good in exercise clothing. Hope my neighbor reads this 🥰

I gave my hair stylist permission to update my style at any time. Whenever he felt I was due, or knew what was going to be trending, he'd tweak my cut. He only make subtle but perfect changes about once a year, so I always looked like me, only a fresh me. That always inspired me to update/refresh other things.

It took my husband several years to teach me not to care what other people think. With most situations I support this idea. I know that I am a lovely person and most agree (of course not all because that's impossible).

I think trends need to be approached with an editing eye as we get older. Otherwise it often comes across as trying too hard. I recently did a search for fashion over 40 channels looking to find some new to me influencers. I watched one and thought "she looks like she's trying too hard". I look at the trends and see what sparks my interest and then decide if/ how I want to incorporate it. Sometimes it's just a minor nod. Sometimes it's a full embrace. Sometimes it's ok to just say "oh that's really cute" and let's others wear it. I'm 50 and I'm considered stylish by most acquaintances, friends, even my daughter's friends but I do believe there are things that I am too old to wear. Just like I believe there are styles that aren't right for my body type.
I agree, Lisa...I suggest looking at the trends each season and just picking one or two that really speak to you. If you have all of your wardrobe basics, these pieces are easy to incorporate and can help keep your wardrobe fresh. Just a nod is fine too...whatever you are comfortable with! xo
Tip 6! My newer thing is: Every time I take out a new season's clothing and have it all set up in the closet, I have a set amount of time to actually wear it - each and every piece. Then at the end of the day, it's a keeper or it's in the donation bag. Surprising how much it cleans the closet and I find that I actually really like something that I just look past normally.

Yes got in a style rut after having kids. I'm a stay at home mom and find myself just going for the easy cozy comfy leggings..every..single..day pretty much 😆 I used to be such a fashionista. Glad about what you said about not caring what people thin. I love the combo of pink, red and orange. Sometimes I will wear pink and red or pink and orange and always get looks but I don't care. I love the combo. Also, I feel I have basics and them update them with shoes. Right now I feel like the chunky boots makes everything look new.

I'm so glad I found your channel last year! Who knew I needed BASICS! That has helped SO much, and I've been able to update my style. It seemed like it was easier pre-covid when I was going to the office everyday. I had dresses and suits, and great business clothing BUT I've never been good at the sophisticated casual look. You've really helped me get my head around that. Now I see that there is actually a category BETWEEN dressy and sweats. I'm 55 and I have can say that I do care a little bit about what other people think, but mostly I care about how I feel in what I'm wearing.

This is SO well timed. I have been in such a rut, even with my hair. My wardrobe consists of black, white, denim/chambray, and a few tan pieces ( to spice it up, obviously!!) you even mentioned Farm Rio - which I have been obsessing over for over a year, I just go and DROOL over so much (along with this colorful striped top and skirt that I keep stalking) but always tell myself " I love that but it's NOT me!". But it's seriously the only time I feel excited about clothes anymore. Unfortunately, budget is a massive consideration for me too, so I can't update much currently but this has given me so much to think about moving toward. Thanks for the push! (Also, LOVING the curtain bangs and might have some myself before morning. And the lashes. and everything. You look amazing, so funny how hard we can be on ourselves)

These last two videos are exactly what I needed to hear! I’ve definitely been in a style rut, caused by working from home and also having gained some weight. Im trying to get out of it, but it is difficult to find flattering and practical (read comfortable) clothing. Since the video you did about the trends I’ve been inspired by your gorgeous red cut out dress, and even though I don’t generally like to show much skin, I think I’d be comfortable with showing the sides of my waist. I’ve just ordered a similar dress. Hope it fits and looks good on me ☺️👍

I love the midlife awakening! I recently splurged on a Natalie Martin midi dress for a wedding. It had a deep plunge in back and front with tassels tied across the top line of the shoulders. I used your style hacks products to get all secured 🤣 I felt so “grown up” and got a lot of compliments. It was definitely out of my comfort zone (which is very modest usually) but I am so glad I wore it. I’ve also recently been using DIME beauty eyelash serum for my lashes and brows to “update” my eye area. Between microcurrent and wearing cream based makeup I feel that I’m staying current but still aging gracefully. Thanks for all the inspiration over the past few years Erin!

Ever since discovering you and Fashion Jackson, I’ve been inspired to update my wardrobe. I love my skinny jeans, but last week I decided to wear high-wasted straight leg mom jeans and golden goose sneakers. I am 40 and it felt weird, like I was trying to dress like my babysitter, but it was fun to try it! I got complements too! Thanks Erin!

“Erins voice is in my head, but your basics” hilarious! This video just helped me a lot, I love Blake Lively’s fashion style, but I just discovered she is 5’9”. I am 5’6”. Kate Winslet is 5’6” so that would be a better fashion model for me. I’ll have to look up to see what styles she wears and if they will work for me. I also like Kate Hudson’s style and she is similar to my height and body type. Thanks for the inspiration!
