At my age, I'm afraid loosing ten years is going to do much for me. Looking 73 is still old. Since I am down to 5'1", I settle for trying to look small, cute and lively. I also smile a lot. I try to be polite and thankful for the day I've been given. Your tips and my basic attitude keeps people treating me more like a cute treasure than a relic.
I just turned 69. I will never ever dress like an “old woman.” I am your height, 98 pounds, will never give up skinny jeans and flares. Dress young and tasteful.
Fyi 73 is fabulous don’t forget all the beauty that is you …..as we grow older it’s important to adjust our idea of what beauty really is try this trick not super easy but once you master it super effective I want you to look in the mirror and I want you to look at yourself and you tell yourself that is what beauty is that image that you see in the mirror at this moment in time that is what beauty is…..do this several times a day every day and you will find yourself loving what you see and identifying with your image! and here’s a tip to remember that you are a spirit inside a body you your essence is not your body your spirit is experiencing human form why we do not teach more self-love is beyond me but I bet you are absolutely fabulous and you should believe that…..I’m sure you have more wisdom, knowledge and experience to share which is the true beauty of life and these are your unique gifts to share with the world you have earned your stripes to hold your head high and are more prized than you realize, God bless xoxo
I am 71, and the only place I ever go (mostly) is my church. I do have kimono-type draped covers, and after watching this video I’m going to donate all but one. Boxy!! By the way, about 3 yrs ago, I changed my style goal from trendy to elegant. Also, I believe the number one beauty secret for women my age is good health.
I love that! You're definitely on the right track of keeping yourself feeling confident in your style. Thanks so much for sharing that with me, and thank you for watching! xo
Thank you! Years ago I saw an actress say “too much fabric makes you look older” and it’s true. As a bigger, taller woman, most of the advice we get doesn’t work. Almost all the clothing for us the last 30 years is boxy, ugly, costume-like, garish-like a lot of the “before” outfits you wear here (ugh that chunky necklace reminded me of those cheap plastic things grandmas wore in the 70’s). I find that our clothing should be somewhat fitted. Not over-tight or too small, but somewhat fitted to show you have a body.
I'm so glad that you enjoyed this video. You are exactly right...you don't want to add bulk with extra fabric, but find ways to dress strategically with body skimming tops! Thanks for your comment. xo
Now people keep telling me that the skinny jeans are out of style. I'm looking for a little wider leg in a raw hem It's hard to be fashionable over 50 sometimes. I'm working on it thanks for the tips
I happen to be a size 14/16 at 5'2". I saw this video and found in my closet a top very similar to the creme v neck one . Put it on top of a pair of skinny jeans and love it. My daughter commented on the great look as soon as she saw me. I am 64!
@@chimi1924 - thank goodness for your post. I’m going through the exact same issue. I was 99 lbs, all my adult life to around menopause age 50, which added 25 lbs. I’m 5’2”, size 14, I’m 73. At age 69 I was 125 lbs. size 6-8. Age 70 hit and everything changed, my waistline disappeared, bust got bigger, weight on hips and butt. My darn doctors said, I’m healthy, no issues, no prescriptions, and it’s just my age. I hate that. I eat healthy, but weight went to 160. So, needless to say, my style of dressing changed. I wore skinny jeans and tops just as in the video and heels. Now, I still can wear heels, nice ones, slim slacks, tank tops to hide tummy, and and loose overage shirt, jackets type…open front. Jeans are uncomfortable now due to tummy, hate zippers. I never show my upper arms, they got flabby. My husband says I always look nice, put together, which makes me feel good, and I still get compliments but I’m not happy with the body change because how it’s affected my style of dressing. Being short with large bustline, moderate tummy makes me feel dumpy, so no more dresses. The point is many older ladies get so many “trouble” body spots, it’s difficult to camouflage all of them, especially if you’re a bit vain and like to look good.
I Love seeing the before and after with the "time machine". I realized I have many of the frumpy looks, i.e., oversize prints, handkerchief hemline sweater, frumpy shoes. This really opened my eyes and made me want to go through my closet...TODAY! Thanks Erin.
So, I put a few of your tips to the test and here is the outcome. My husband goes on a lot of business trips and sometimes stays away more than a month at a time. Today, I picked him up from the airport and he said, " you look much thinner." I said, "thank you! I have been cutting back as, I devilishly smiled. Not only did I feel stylish, I felt slim, young and fashionable. I am 50 years old and sometimes I worry of dressing too young and end up dressing like my clothes is 3 sizes too big. Thank you.
My mom is almost 69 and she ALWAYS gets mistaken for being a lot younger - she wears what she wants and feels good in and that's the key. She doesn't try to dress a certain way. She used to until I made her just wear what she loved without worrying about how others might view her. Since then, she regularly gets compliments every time we're out and no one believes she's a day over 55. WEAR WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD!!! 😁😁😁🖤🖤🖤
How we feel is always the most important part of how others perceive us. It shows on this video as well. It's not just the clothes that create the difference, it's also how she feels wearing them, how she holds herself. In the before the shoulders are down and the way she moves is that of someone feeling small and in the after she stands taller and feels more confident. Clothes can surely have that affect, but we can also feel confident in ourselves, which is preferred anyway and it will definitely be seen by others.
Anything, however, gives the illusion of "young" if paired with heels!!! Like your first look - the white dress with the big black print wouldve been fine if it was a size or two smaller, with a belt and black stilettos instead of the Grandma comfort shoes. Granted, I like the black better with the Valentino belt, but if you HAD to, you could make the white one work with different shoes and accessories.
OMG! I totally feel called out! Most of your “before” outfits were eerily similar to my every day looks. I used to say that I was dressed like a librarian or Mrs. Weasley from Harry Potter. Not that I’ve watched your video, I can see why my daughter kept telling me that my clothes weren’t doing anything for me. Thank you for putting this video together. I think the only other thing I would have like to see are the purses you would have recommend. I am guilty of using the same black purse with EVERYTHING because it’s practical. Not that practical is a bad thing. In fact, I appreciate that you remind us to shop our own closet first. If you ever do a video on purses, I’d love you to include a couple purse option for each outfit. For example, some of us need to carry reading glasses, snacks (to maintain blood sugar), and bottled water everywhere we go IN ADDITION to wallet and keys while others may be able to get away with those crossbody purses. If you would consider that for a future video, that would be awesome! Again, thank you for your time and ideas!
I'm SO glad you found this helpful, Jenny! I often recommend buying one really high quality purse and wearing it everyday instead of spending less on a bunch of separate bags. Nothing boring about that! I do have this video where I talk a bit about bags as well as other accessories: ua-cam.com/video/36r86Pp5ThQ/v-deo.html
I never wear jeans. My stomach is too big. To fit my waist the rest of the jeans are too large. I wish more clothing companies would do vertical stripes... they are difficult to find.
Just shopped my closet this morning after watching your video yesterday. So much easier to part with items I’d held onto b/c of your tips about pants lengths, prints, & more! I’m going to my grandkids’ programs this weekend & think I’ve got some cute combos that definitely look more youthful. (I’m 71.) Thanks!
As a stylish 29 year old, I 100% agree with all these! Beautiful sunglasses, the minimal jewelry, a designer purse, pretty edgy shoes, designer shades, and tighter neutrals always look modern!
Agree, Agree, Agree!! I am 45 and loving my look. In the past few years I stopped dressing like a teenager and came across a youthful but not teenybopper or older look. My youngest daughter is 12 and commented the other day, mommy everywhere we go someone compliments you :) We are heading on vacation next month and this evening she asked me to help her shop online for great looks for her. We had the best time browsing together. When I tell people I have 4 children and my oldest is 24 they don't believe me. It's because of my look, youthful and modern.
@@teressaviola-moore2698 I understand what you mean! I’m 57 and started watching style videos and also makeup/skincare videos on UA-cam. I have been learning so much! I feel like these ladies make it easy to learn and also give a wide variety of options (prices) to choose from. If you don’t watch any of the makeup/ skincare channels, there are a lot of fun ones. The style advice has helped me a lot as I was always wearing baggier clothing to cover weight gain. Good luck and hope you find what you like!
Perfect from beginning to end! Side by size technique is great! I'm 73 years old, 5'2", 100 lbs, 36c bra, and need confort shoes. Thanks so much for covering all these issues.
Looking sexier doesn't always mean you look younger. If you're too old, sometimes sexy looks tacky. It's also about personal style , too. I actually preferred 2 of the before looks...but my style is more bohemian so I like boxy, I like tunics, I like less structure. But I think you did a great job. Some of the before looks could've looked really nice with different shoes and the right accessories.
I like the bohemian look as well... I feel more comfortable.... I don't care what others think of me at 60 .. Actually I never cared. I always dressed so different than the average
Yes the very first dress I immediately thought a belt and heels or more strappy sandals ( almost like she did in option 2) and finer necklace would have immediately made it look better
Hi Erin I would love to see your samples in all different body samples as well as yours. This way we can apply what you are teaching to our proper shape. Thanks for all your hard work!
Love the time machine and side by sides especially! I’m super petite and until recently have always been super fit but terrified to wear form fitting clothes so I’ve always dressed like a bag lady. Now that I’m in my mid thirties I’m regretting it. Your videos help someone like me who has a lifetime of unlearning to do!
From the bottom of my heart ❤ thank you so much for being empathic, honest, and straightforward. You my dear, are a true gem. Your audience needs to realize that some tips may not suit them. I'm curvy, but I'm not complaining. There are tons of great options here. ( Perimenopause 5'9 curvy... thick waist.. busty)
That is exactly what I thought when I watched the video I love d it and it was fun to watch but as a size 12 I really feel like some things just don't cross over.
What is going on with QVC??? In England we get lovely Peter Kaiser shoes paired with some bloomin’ monstrosity from Kim and Co and the presenters act like it’s Dior! 🤣
You have just described everything I do wrong, my husband keeps asking me to ditch the long flowing cardigans and big prints coz he said they made me look frumpy, but I thought he was being unreasonable until this video, what an eye opener, time to brighten and lighten up 👍😀 thank you 😊
You are the queen of instructional entertaining videos on style, Erin! I loved this format, as it shows us frumpy versus hip. I got quite a charge out of seeing you in those pre time machine looks. It just shows us so clearly how clothing and accessories are huge in looking younger. Hate to say it but you looked frumpy and older, especially in the turquoise number! More of these videos please.
Oh my gosh, Erin! I am definitely a frumpy dresser! I'm 63 years old, and I really appreciate this eye-opening video! I'm going to try to get out of my "old lady" style and try to incorporate some more stylish and youthful clothing! This video was so helpful!
This was so helpful! I am going to go get rid of all the scarf sweaters. I tend to think that a trend will help me look younger but it usually doesn’t. Please help us get rid of more things that are “out of style”. Cold shoulder sweaters - in or out? One shoulder ? Off the shoulder ? Thanks so much! I love watching your videos.
I'm so glad, Lisa! I love one shoulder and off the shoulder tops. As for cold shoulders, while they are on their way out they can be incredibly flattering on some women so if you feel great in them keep them...otherwise I'd donate. xo
I'm all for getting rid of outdated clothing or wearing a "no" only inside the house or for yardwork. I'd be interested in ways to make some no pieces yes pieces. Like changing the cropped jean into shorts (tho that wouldn't help "diaper butt" lol), or finding a reasonably priced way to make the handkerchief sweater or the too large of a print dress (shorten it and wear a cropped sweater on top maybe) into yeses? Definitely interested in more of these! Great tips!
I definitely loved this video. I'm 65 and have a tummy and I'm 5'4. So I'm tempted to with the handkerchief hem, the bold top, etc. I'm struggling with what to wear for my body. These tips gave me lots of pointers on what to do. You really are a great teacher on style. Love you, Erin.
Yes, and honestly as a woman in her early 50's I have as much trouble wondering whether it seems like I'm trying to dress too young as with dressing too old. It's tough to find that just-right balance. (Same goes for hairstyle.)
@@roseschulze1647 YES!!! You can find articles everywhere for how to, and not to, dress in your 20's, 30's, 40's and even 60's but you hit your 50's and you're completely on your own! (40's too, but still more common than 50's!) And the conflicting info/feedback I get from people! I, personally, look better in a bikini than a one piece (not just my opinion! My oh so embarrass-able 20 something daughter and son-in-law, and conservative hubby unanimously agree), but then I wear an almost fingertip length skort and have a friend comment about my @ss hanging out! I'm 5'4" and have a 36" inseam, EVERYTHING looks short on me! I'm at a completely loss now, when it comes to dressing "appropriately" for my age. I'm also not ready to give up my waist length hair, no matter what people think! I do wear it up in a ponytail most of the time for work, and like the versatility. When it starts looking shabby, I'll cut it... Until then, if it's not dragging my face down, and looks polished and healthy, why is it a problem? *Just posted and re-read that. I really don't know how else to word it, and I'm really not doing the "oh poor me" braggy thing. My hair is colored regularly, I'm average weight and never had a great build. I'm just really, really short waisted and have disproportionately long legs for my height. Buying jeans/pants in a 5/6, that aren't several inches too short is just ridiculous, especially on a budget!
@@pinkfabulous248 But is it REALLY too young, or just how you look best, and happens to break someone else's "rules"? I know at 53 I'm not "supposed" to wear a bikini in public, but if you look, as my family so elequently put it, "... Like 5 pounds of hamburger stuffed into a sandwich baggie..." The rules go out the window! LOL!
This is one of the most helpful videos I’ve seen in a long time. The before and after really help cement what we’re doing wrong and what a HUGE difference doing it right can make! I’m really shocked at not only the difference in the way your body looks but the afters really make u look 20 years younger. Wow!
Yup I have a lower belly that shorter shirts make me fell extremely self conscious. At 5.1 small frame jeans are always a problem as well. Either to low at the waist that makes you look like a stuff sausage or so high wasted they come to you neck lol ok not that high but you understand. Anyone else have that problem?
I love the before and after pictures! I was almost embarrassed to see the before pictures because it felt like you were going through my closet. The B&A photos showed me what others see.
YES! YES! YES! Please do a part 2, this was so helpful! I am going to look at my closet with more discernment! I'm 38 and am already feeling a bit uncertain if something is "age appropriate" or "too young" or "too old." This was great and the time machine was hilarious and make it a super fun video. Thank you Erin! :)
Recently I purchased very pretty tops. Then yesterday I put on and off almost 5 tops because it looked old, country bumpkin, or suburban woman. Not me. I seriously thought what did I do, waste money on tops that aren't me. This video helped me to see and understand what I was thinking when I made these choices and purchases. Now it's about clear out, try on,and start over.
I'm so sorry that you ran into that problem, Helena...It's happened to us all. I'm honored that you're finding my videos helpful in re-vamping your wardrobe though. Thanks so much for watching! xo
You hit the nail on the head with that last outfit! I see so many women over 50 wearing the bright, patterned outfit with the waterfall cardigan and chunky necklace..
Having worked in a clothing store geared to women over 40, these shops have many options including biker style jackets and sweaters. A shop that is “over 40 means all the way to “OVER 91”. There are women who have small breasts, zero buttocks and a thick waist that need clothes, as well as women with osteoporosis or in wheelchairs, and I helped them find outfits. I strongly suggest shopping in more then one store and I always went to places like Forever 21 to see if they had anything to wear with the “over 40” outfits. I have told women that had figures like yours that they might get a better fit at a different store, at least for some things. I was proud to work at that store and help women in their late 60’s and 70’s get ready for their cruise 🚢! Not all women unplug from living on their 65th birthday. Many have feet 🦶 that need lots of love from working hard for decades. So those frumpy shoes at least beat the old lady shoes of the 60’s and 70’s. I am one of those people who unfortunately need lots of foot support from many years in restaurants and in retail, and I am not yet 60. So, what I am saying is these stores are meant for either very thick waisted women who are younger then 55 over 55 and older. Seniors have money and seniors need clothes.
Sorry to disagree, but SOOooo many seniors DON'T have money! That's why I appreciate your mention of shopping your own closet AND shopping at thrift stores! I used to immediately dismiss that idea due to INCORRECT, PRECONCEIVED opinions about "previously worn" clothes, etc. I now go "Thrifting" with my closest friend, & 95% of what I buy still have the original dept. store &/or designer's tags all over them & have CLEARLY never been worn before. I may not advertise it, but my husband & family have admitted what great buys I've made on ALL types of items. Judge not...
Morning Erin! Love that first dress with the small print ( I’d love to look like that everyday!) and the 2 white outfits. Great visual explanations! One of your best videos! And yes when you find a comfortable stylish “unicorn” shoe, buy in different colors ! I recently did that and when I wear them , I am so happy I have 3 pairs! 💐🥰😘
Thank you Erin! I love everything about you and your channel! Thank you for being so transparent and for being so caring of women who are hurting! I LOVED THIS VIDEO! THE BEFORE & AFTER WERE SO HELPFUL! I really benefitted from your specific mention of jeans for petite, classic sunglasses, classic dainty jewelry, comfy shoes. I am confused on when 3/4 sleeves are OK and when they are NOT OK. AND which handbags are OK and NOT OK. Would love a before and after video on those topics. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
This was very helpful. I'm 53 and realizing more and more how much impact clothes have on how I feel about the way I look. Fashion has never been my strong point so these tips are very welcome. Now I need to go try on all my old jeans and go find a three way mirror pronto! 😂 Thank you Erin you are good at what you do 💗
Yes! Please help us women in our 50s in size 2X. My 40 year class reunion is coming (Oct 4), and I've seen photos of some of my classmates on FB. They all look so good, but I've gained weight. I'm tempted to stay home.
Hope you're not staying home & found an outfit that doesn't hide your body despite size 2X! Show your curves & make sure your waist line is visible; that's always more flattering. @@whitelighttrainwreck3021
My friend found some great plus size recommendations from the gal at Beauticurve. She's so beautiful and I love how she loves her curves. 💕 Forgive me I don't know if that's a bad thing to recommend another UA-camr? 😬
I think the white cotton top you used as making you look "youthful" makes an older woman look like she's trying to look younger, therefore looking older. I'm glad I saw this, I tend to do this and now I know it's not the best look. I liked the striped top better of the two. Being short, I never wear horizonal ANYTHING, but of the 2 tops, that looked better. Thank you for all your shows. You've helped me a bunch!
I thought the white top was a softer, more feminine look. I didn’t get the impression of someone that was “chasing “ youth. Maybe it is the more casual silhouette that you are uncomfortable with. This might be overcome with a more classic looking button down shirt.
I'm sitting here watching while wearing a large-print floral dress... now I'm going back to my closet and changing! The best advice. Thank you again, Erin!
Hi Erin! This was a great video thank you 🙏 I'm 39 but preparing now for the new decade ahead! Have been dreading it but with your tips I think I'll be able to achieve looking younger and feeling good. The large print tip gosh it's so obvious now that you say it/show it. I should have realised. Always thought ''if I lose weight it'll look better''. All the other tips were gold too 😀
I’m only 20, but I’m watching this anyway because I absolutely love the outfits you pick! This is not only good advice for looking younger, but also good advice for choosing clothes that are more flattering!
I have RA. Must wear long sleeves and long pants. I do wear younger looking stuff. But I need to cover deformities. I like your ideas. I can only wear one pair of shoes due to severe foot issues. I try. Also hair styles help too and now I am losing hair! This is quite a battle but I try! Age 75.
I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed my video! It can be so tough...I'm here to help make style a little bit simpler for you. Thank you for your comment. xo
My 21 year old daughter is a good judge of my style. She is honest and states if something looks too old or frumpy. And you know when something is wrong. I think some women are unhappy with their bodies and just want to hide and become invisible, especially after 45 or so.
Yes! This is my problem. I just want to hide. Erin said to highlight the positives but I honestly don’t have any!!! I should have my daughter go shopping with me. That should be my reward for toning up and losing weight which I’ve already started!
I'm 66 and have fallen into the frumpy, expected fashions for my age. I so needed this video and have subscribed to get more. I'm youthful in mind and body. Now need to know how to dress for that. Your 'after' styles are totally me and I won't look like mutton dressed as lamb lol. I'm going to sort my wardrobe now to chuck the old and keep the young coordinates etc, just based on the styles in this video alone. They are already in my wardrobe but hidden by all the 'applicable to age' stuff. Thank you. Your just what I need. Blessings to you. Could you also do a video on colour coordination. I'm spring autumn pallet. Love bright colours and bought cos loved. So wrong! So many times and colours swamp and wear me. 😊
@Linda Hoskins Good for you girlfriend! You will be youthful forever as long as you keep on "trying". I'm over 50 & have many girlfriends 15-20 years older than myself. The ones that at least TRY, always look more youthful than the ones that just don't care anymore. I re evaluate my closet about every 4-5 years. That way I tend to keep "classics" but don't hold on to any "trendy" items that will make us look out dated. I know exactly what you mean about "age appropriate"; wearing something only because it is "expected at your age". I like to think that I wear classic clothing for women that are 10-15 years younger than me. No "Hello Kitty", trendy teenager items, "daisy duke" short shorts or skirts, but that doesn't mean over 50's can't wear something a 40-45 yr old would wear!!
But the styling makes a big difference. If you had styled the first look (the large print) with the shoes, belt and jewelry from the second look (the small print) it would have looked so much better.
yesssss!! exactly! And we would be capable of telling for sure if the print makes that big difference or not! I was going to comment that but I found yours.
Yes, part 2 please? I’m going through my closet right now. I love the way you present your content. It’s fun and informative and makes us older women think before we dress our bodies. Love you Erin 💕
LOVE this video. Please publish a part 2! At 35 YO I feel I am in this weird in-between where I don't want to dress like my mother but I'm not a 20-something college student. Many thanks for your style tips!
I have a hard time deciding if i should wear crop tops or not . Or if I can wear puffy sleeves . Should I wear sneakers or have a more classic look. How do i do to not look like a granny while not looking like a teenage girl? And then all these trends.. I feel quite lost.
Yes, more time machine videos. I love the format. You show the mistake and then the solution! Really, really helpful to see it with your own eyes. Maybe a 'Time Machine' series could be an option for you and your team? This format really suits you.
Perhaps dropping the “looking youthful “ or aspiring to be “ younger “and simply embracing age with knowledgeable fashion tips to look our best as we evolve through life should be given more consideration. I don’t want to be younger. I want to be my best
Yeah. I’m in my late 20s. Something that annoys me is how the fashion and beauty industry demonize age. It should be celebrated that you’ve reached your age and have wisdom and experience to share, but your age does not mean you have to wear frumpy clothes in the wrong cuts that do you no favours. I also want this culture that doesn’t allow women to age in peace to end. It’s 2020 already. This sexist culture that sees mature men as authoritative and mature women as “expired” is disgusting. I see it all over the internet and it’s time for a culture change. I’m sick of fillers and Botox being heavily marketed at my age group because it’s somehow indecent for women to get wrinkles and lose under eye fat tissue.
Shelly, YES, I did think the same... I am now 51 and have always dressed to look my "best" based on my body shape and coloring. I actually say "I don't mind looking my age, I just want to look my best version of it." Unfortunately, Erin's headline resonates with too many women due to marketing telling us we are a problem to fix! When I was heavier, it didn't much change my style, I just looked better in a bigger tag size, but similar cuts of clothing. I DO appreciate Erin's intention to "freshen" or "uncrimp" us at any age, and her suggestions are good.
Thank you so very much! I needed this today. Starting a new career at age 60. I really need to step up my wardrobe game! Your video just made my day. Going shopping in my closet now. Thank you again❤
That "before" boxy jacket is actually very chic, maybe can be a tad shorter but perfect for someone not that skinny. Not everyone can wear jackets that end at the middle
I like most of this but we’re not all motto jacket types. I loved the striped duster and as a yogi ninja & Grace & Frankie show lover, I like the yogi/artist look.
I agree. The short jacket and longer top look is now itself a bit tired and dated. A longer jacket can look fabulous if it fits properly. May just need taking in under the bust for a very chic look, over skinny pants or a sheath dress.
I actually liked several of the “not” looks. If you style them like she did of course they looked ugly. Those black shoes were horrid!!! She could have done that beautiful jacket with a T-shirt and skinny jeans and change that whole look.
I think you are going to be my best friend I loved your tips and am looking 👀 forward to perusing your other content I am 62 and lost EVERYTHING but the skin on my back literally. 😢 I’ve been attempting on a small widows pension to rebuild my wardrobe through any means possible I see you have sound advice and am so grateful to have hit on you this morning. OMG!! Where have you been?! I can’t believe I’m just now stumbling across your content. I’m 41yrs This is exactly what I need pleeeease keep doing more videos like these
if the first large print dress was done with the same shoes/accessories as the small print one, it would look great. The issue with this is - people who are trying to cover up with loose clothes are much bigger than you and do not have your body shape, so anything you recommended for a more modern look would not look good on them for one reason or another...
I might disagree. I have seen BIG women who work with their curves in the way Erin describes ("body skimming" not fitted) look GREAT. Pulled together, more fresh. Classier/fun, not frumpy. Frumpy doesn't hide big, so just try embracing it. I would say to plus-size women, go try on the concepts in a store like dress-up, and take some photos. Or better, have a friend take them (better angles). Set aside for a moment the meanness we see ourselves with - do your own loose hide frump shots at home. Then in the store, Erin's suggestions. You're not trying to be tiny Erin, you're going for a classier fresher YOU. 😍 WE ALL deserve to feel attractive in some way NOW, what if her ideas work?!!
Great suggestions-thank you! I think as a lot of us age, our bodies change. Then we have to dress differently, and don't know how. I also want to dress youthful, but don't want to look like a teenager anymore! I'm 65, and feel a lot of "older women's" fashions look frumpy. So I shop "juniors" and try not to look "too young." Anyone else there with me?
Interesting but I really wish we all could be comfortable and happy with our age, stop chasing something already gone and embrace who we are NOW. Look happier not younger!
I agree. Youth is overrated. Sometimes at 70 we try to look 20 and that looks horrible. IF you are tall you need not add height. Be yourself and natural and jewelry makes the clothes.
So true. I am 70. This video is very nice . I am 5'6" and weigh 125 but mt hips just don't like nor flattering to wear too tight jeans. I think this video for over 40 is very nice but i need to find for 70 year olds. I just want to dress how i want r to dress. Heck at this age looking younger is not important as trying to stay healthy and able to breathe and move and excercize. And remember all fashion changes. Personally, i love the 40s look. Old movies have actresses wearing fantastic clothing. I was a 70s era. Bell bottons, halter tops. Etc. Have a great day and wear what you like. .
She's talking about hiding in your clothes. Because some clothes do make some people look more older than what they are. Instead of hiding embrace who you are. Love and Light.♥️♥️
Thank you for these tips. This video is fantastic. Please Part 2. I’ve recently gained some weight, all in the middle and I’m having a hard time adjusting my wardrobe. I’ve always been so thin and it’s really been a struggle. Thanks again for all your hard work. Oh and the time machine is a great touch.
Yes, Erin...this is great!! I can guess where you got the "before" outfits - LOL. I don't understand why the "over 40" stores have styles that are so frumpy and dated. I stay far, far, away from those stores. Great video as usual...thanks!!
Thank you! Amid the plethora of photographs and website images that are made to look great but are typically on younger women who can (maybe) carry it off it is so nice to have style tips picked out that will make me and my older body look good. Realized that I have been guilty of most of these style sins so thank you again. Please do another one - subscribed in hope ❤️
I really like your video and the tips in it. I'm 45 and trying to dress professional, but youthful at the same time. The only problem is that it's insanely difficult to buy e.g. stylish tailored blazers in larger sizes. They rarely exist. And the same goes for almost every basic garment. It seems to be a common idea for designers that plus sized women want to hide behind prints and in baggy clothes 😭
This is an older blog post, but I think you might still find it helpful: busbeestyle.com/top-5-best-plus-size-brands-for-curvy-women/ I'm so sorry that you're struggling to find the right tops for your beautiful body, but it does sound like you're searching strategically...which is so important! xo
Love the time capsule! So cute! Great tips! I love you as a model, you did a great job! It would also help to see women with different figure issues looking updated. It would be fun to see you host several different body types and show how you'd update each person's body type. The apple, pear, hourglass, etc... that type of thing. It is hard to envision sometimes without seeing something ON someone with that body type! Just an idea for the future! I loved your film here - great job! Would just like to see how to improve my shape. I'm sometimes a pear or apple type.
Thank you! This was so helpful! I’m an older woman and always looking for ways to feel and look younger. But what I would also like to see is when older women try and dress too young and just miss that mark, that fine line of wanting to look in style but not trying to look 25. Finding that balance..
I really enjoyed this video!! I love a lot of the shoes that you modeled. I struggle with bunions and some shoes make them look worse... hoping to keep an eye out for some of the ones you showed. 🙂
I actually love the time machine graphic, made me giggle and thought it was so creative! Thanks for this video Erin. Creeping toward 40 and trying to stay stylish but also dress my age!
Okay I know the long boxy jacket isn’t the most flattering in terms of doing your figure a favor; but it is just so beautiful. If I was as thin as you, I’d rock it.
I love your advice! Blessings to you ❤
I just turned 69.
Susan, it's not the years in your life, but the life in your years that count, I'm 74 and most days I feel full of energy
Love !!!! 👋🏼❤️
Thanks so much for sharing that with me, and thank you for watching! xo
Hi@@BusbeeStyle
I would love to see the before and after on different size ladies as well. Even someone just holding onto 10 extra lbs. thanks for these videos.
Even do the same outfit on several different size and shape ladies to show how not all looks, look good on everyone.
There’s plenty of other channels with larger ladies doing the same thing
I am 64!
Thanks for sharing! That's great, Gabriele! xo
Same age, height and size. Used to be size 4 and going bunkers since now I have to deal with age and weight. Uffff
You sound lovely.
I’m looking at all your responses. I’m 66, 5’2” and trying to lose weight but definitely seem to have lost my waist.
I Love seeing the before and after with the "time machine". I realized I have many of the frumpy looks, i.e., oversize prints, handkerchief hemline sweater, frumpy shoes. This really opened my eyes and made me want to go through my closet...TODAY! Thanks Erin.
I'm so glad this was helpful, Patti! xo
Thank you.
Awesome! ❤️
Thank you so much. I really learnt a lot. I dress a lot like in your before videos. I am going to try and change the way I dress.
"goes on a lot of business trips and stays away more than a month at a time"?
My mom is almost 69 and she ALWAYS gets mistaken for being a lot younger - she wears what she wants and feels good in and that's the key. She doesn't try to dress a certain way. She used to until I made her just wear what she loved without worrying about how others might view her. Since then, she regularly gets compliments every time we're out and no one believes she's a day over 55. WEAR WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD!!! 😁😁😁🖤🖤🖤
I looove this philosophy!
Exactly
Your mum rocks!
@@jsi4064 that's so sweet 😁🖤! And yeah...she's pretty awesome 😉.
This video is exactly what sets you apart: you teach, explain and show how to dress more modern! LOVE it! Well done Erin!! 🤩🙌🏻💕
You are so sweet, Terri! Thank you! xo
You are my favorite style advice lady
Maybe, but how many of us can AFFORD Natasha Jeans? Come on here, we're in the middle of a Pandemic and a lot of us are not working right now. :(
Agree 100 %👍
Haha! The thought of a cross body bag on me makes me laugh. My boobs get bigger as I get older and a strap across the middle looks ridiculous. 😄
Chi i
As a stylish 29 year old, I 100% agree with all these! Beautiful sunglasses, the minimal jewelry, a designer purse, pretty edgy shoes, designer shades, and tighter neutrals always look modern!
I would like to see how you would dress a chubby woman. The clothes you just recommended are for skinny women.😊
And for those of us over 50, heels above 2 " not so much.
Cheeky Czech yes, skinny and tall
@@adugan1017 I do all that and I'm not skinny.
I'm with you at chubby
Cheeky Czech true! Anybody can dress a “clothes hangar”.
Love that! Have a great trip! xo
I am 44 and having a hard time with everything from make up to clothes to the point I haven't done my makeup or left sweats for to long
@@teressaviola-moore2698 I understand what you mean!
Leuk
Perfect from beginning to end! Side by size technique is great!
I'm 73 years old, 5'2", 100 lbs, 36c bra, and need confort shoes. Thanks so much for covering all these issues.
Looking sexier doesn't always mean you look younger. If you're too old, sometimes sexy looks tacky. It's also about personal style , too. I actually preferred 2 of the before looks...but my style is more bohemian so I like boxy, I like tunics, I like less structure. But I think you did a great job. Some of the before looks could've looked really nice with different shoes and the right accessories.
True!
I like the bohemian look as well... I feel more comfortable.... I don't care what others think of me at 60 .. Actually I never cared. I always dressed so different than the average
yep the shoes made a big difference!
I agree with you
Yes the very first dress I immediately thought a belt and heels or more strappy sandals ( almost like she did in option 2) and finer necklace would have immediately made it look better
I miss “What not to Wear” with Stacey & Clinton, but now we have you Erin!👍🏼😊
You are so funny! I also loved that show! xo
Lisa Tuzzolino Live that show and watch the re runs! Lol
Yessssss!!! I was thinking the very same thing Lisa! 😃
Yes! That was such a good show! Erin nailed it!
Lisa Tuzzolino omg I used to LOVE that show!!! I used to want to purposely dress bad so I could be nominated by someone!
Hi Erin
I would love to see your samples in all different body samples as well as yours.
( Perimenopause 5'9 curvy... thick waist.. busty)
That is SO sweet of you, thank you so much! ~Erin xo
Omg! I’m 64 and don’t wear any of these frumpy clothes. Modern clean classic with a tiny bit of edge I can pass for 50 something! Good video
That's great, Denise! xo
Love this time machine approach. Great video!
Name checks out, yeah?
Your body shape looks good in anything. Do something for us chunkier and shorter old ladies. Not much out there for us 😕
Very thorough and easy to accomplish but I agree with you. With her body type even the old" looks don't look all that bad.
That is exactly what I thought when I watched the video I love d it and it was fun to watch but as a size 12 I really feel like some things just don't cross over.
Shelly Cupp , agree 100%
There are affordable clothes to make anyone look their best. This woman has excellent advice. Well fitting clothes ALWAYS make one look better.
Trying to be positive but it’s sadly true sigh
So thankful to have you understand the need to shop your closet, for simplicity and budget.
I really like the side-by-side comparisons. The time machine graphic not so much. Thanks for the great content
Thank you. I appreciate that feedback, Yvonne! xo
Busbee Style I would love the yellow jacket, anything close to this tht I could buy
It's great
No one does modern, comfortable sophisticated fashion for women like you, Erin. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Kay! xo
I love her style but it just doesn't fit my life or style. Just try to take some tips to make things work for me.
Your “BEFORES” are basically the uniform of HSN, QVC, & South Florida! LOL! Thanks for always redirecting us to youth & modernity.
You are so welcome, Judi! xo
Oh my gosh, Judi.....you are spot on with your comment. While watching Erin and some of these outfits, I thought it looked like QVC as well.
Judi Heinlein True story!
I kept thinking, "Did she raid my mother-in-law's closet?" 😂
What is going on with QVC??? In England we get lovely Peter Kaiser shoes paired with some bloomin’ monstrosity from Kim and Co and the presenters act like it’s Dior! 🤣
You have just described everything I do wrong, my husband keeps asking me to ditch the long flowing cardigans and big prints coz he said they made me look frumpy, but I thought he was being unreasonable until this video, what an eye opener, time to brighten and lighten up 👍😀 thank you 😊
Well I am so glad to hear you've found these tips helpful, Kathryn! Now you can have a plan for your next shopping trip! Thanks for watching. xo
Lisa Noah cold shoulders are a NO! Lol I never understood that trend and never had one
I'm so glad, Lisa! I love one shoulder and off the shoulder tops. As for cold shoulders, while they are on their way out they can be incredibly flattering on some women so if you feel great in them keep them...otherwise I'd donate. xo
They are out for now. I'm sure they will come back in 15 years, maybe.
Great tips!
I have one knit cold-shoulder dress. I wear it by the pool because it shows off my memorial tattoo *and* covers the rest of my arm.
Love this clothing styling help. Keep putting the before and after looks together please.
I like the before and after. The difference is amazing!
Thank you, Vicki! xo
Loved it. Do more!! And then maybe do a "dress too young" version. I have made that mistake too.
Thank you, Eria! xo
I’m always dressing too young... oops!
Wow!
I’m 75 years old but I find your assessments applicable to even me. Thank you.
I'm so glad, Patricia! I think my tips can be applicable to a wide range of ages. xo
I need to rip my closets apart. But your after outfit pictures did not cover bellies. Maybe a model with some body flaws or a plus size video
I love that blazers are in again. They’re so absolutely classy and sophisticated.
Me too...they are my favorite items in my wardrobe! xo
I'm so glad that you found this helpful! xo

I don’t think I know what stores are for women over 40. Ideas?
@@brandywine4000 Chico's and Talbot's, for 2 examples.
Thank you! That's what you have to do when you find something great! xo
Thank you Erin! I love everything about you and your channel! Thank you for being so transparent and for being so caring of women who are hurting!

My friend found some great plus size recommendations from the gal at Beauticurve. She's so beautiful and I love how she loves her curves. 💕
Forgive me I don't know if that's a bad thing to recommend another UA-camr? 😬
Super helpful info! I'm definitely making some mistakes. 😬
Thank you Isha
Love these types of videos! I’m almost 63 and it’s a battle for me everyday to try and not look frumpy!
I'm so glad this was helpful, Anita! xo
Oh my! Time to go through my clothes and get rid of the things that are aging me! Love this type of format! Thanks!
You are so welcome, Cathy! I'm so glad that it was helpful! xo
I'm sitting here watching while wearing a large-print floral dress... now I'm going back to my closet and changing! The best advice. Thank you again, Erin!
put on a solid color jacket that fits you very flatteringly to tone down the large print , keep it buttoned
That yellow & white outfit is fabulous, but I was dying to get a closer look at those shoes!
omg that first dress looks exactly like the kitchen curtains I just bought yesterday no lie
I’m sure it looks better as curtains rather than a dress 🤔
LOL! "La Kitchen Dress!"
If they are like the flower dress, they will make your kitchen look older....
Too funny, Toni! xo
Lol...made me laugh
That's awesome because at 20 this input will make you look classy and sophisticated while still "casual" 🤩
TravelPhotoWriter you are so right!!
Thank you for your comment. xo
This is sooooo important, especially for women that are experiencing ageism situations at work. We want to look fresh and modern! Thanks, Erin!
So true! Thank you, Lori! xo
My 21 year old daughter is a good judge of my style. She is honest and states if something looks too old or frumpy. And you know when something is wrong. I think some women are unhappy with their bodies and just want to hide and become invisible, especially after 45 or so.
Valerie Paul this is a shame but true.
Valerie, YES! My 20's son will tell me when I look what we call "The M Word"... Matronly 😂 And I really appreciate it!
Yes! This is my problem. I just want to hide. Erin said to highlight the positives but I honestly don’t have any!!! I should have my daughter go shopping with me. That should be my reward for toning up and losing weight which I’ve already started!
But I should say in the meantime that I should be trying to dress as well as possible for how I look now. Hard to do with extra weight though.
I love the Time Machine!
@@461645 My thoughts exactly - the wedges would have instantly made a difference.
It would have helped, but prints are a dangerous thing!
I concord. And the ponytail made a difference as well.
I totally agree. I thought so too.
This time machine was so much fun! Yes to Part 2 👍🏻
Thank you, Sheri! xo
Yes, part 2 please? I’m going through my closet right now. I love the way you present your content. It’s fun and informative and makes us older women think before we dress our bodies. Love you Erin 💕
Thank you, Sandra! So glad this was helpful! xo
The time machine was great! I'd love to see more of that, more outfit examples❤🎉
LOVE this video. Please publish a part 2! At 35 YO I feel I am in this weird in-between where I don't want to dress like my mother but I'm not a 20-something college student. Many thanks for your style tips!
Exactly!
Ah me too.
I have a hard time deciding if i should wear crop tops or not . Or if I can wear puffy sleeves . Should I wear sneakers or have a more classic look. How do i do to not look like a granny while not looking like a teenage girl? And then all these trends.. I feel quite lost.
I agree
Just keep your look classic! Elegant! Dress what makes u feel good and look good!
Yes, more time machine videos. I love the format. You show the mistake and then the solution! Really, really helpful to see it with your own eyes. Maybe a 'Time Machine' series could be an option for you and your team? This format really suits you.
Thank you, Susan! I love that feedback! xo
Perhaps dropping the “looking youthful “ or aspiring to be
“ younger “and simply embracing age with knowledgeable fashion tips to look our best as we evolve through life should be given more consideration. I don’t want to be younger. I want to be my best
Maybe look "current"?
Loving that last sentence especially!
YES♡
You got this, Bonnie! SO exciting! xo
That "before" boxy jacket is actually very chic, maybe can be a tad shorter but perfect for someone not that skinny. Not everyone can wear jackets that end at the middle
Oooh. I didn't like it. This woman made all the right choices.
Those dark shoes (comfort) would make any outfit look old.
Great advice.I have learned these tips the hard way through 73 years of living. Thanks for the validation !
Glad it was helpful, Robin! xo
Loved your time machine video. Appreciated how you addressed the problem areas for different people and most of all what can be done to fix it.
The first dress with large would look really cute if it was shortened with dressy sandals. The shoes look frumpy with the dress.
And change out the necklace and add a belt!
Also maybe a size smaller so it was more fitted at the waist and on top.
I think the main problem with The first dress is the sleeve length and shoes.
Carol Baratta I was thinking a belt and some heels, different jewelry would look nice.
no way it was bad
This wasn't to bash anyone's personal style, it was just to help you look younger. I think if you're happy with your look, keep rocking it
Great tips! Thank you the Before and After really illustrates the outdated looks and the solution very well ⭐️ I would love to see a part 2
Thank you, Wendy! Will do! xo
The body structure is an important aspect
I almost spit out my coffee when you said don’t wear jeans that make it look like you’ve got a load in your drawers. Hahaha.
Yes please, more like this. We 50+ need help!!!
Thank you for the feedback, Kathleen! xo
Love this! Great advice
I'm stuck in the "I've put on weight, especially around my waist" looks so I'm hiding in big outfits 🥺
Interesting but I really wish we all could be comfortable and happy with our age, stop chasing something already gone and embrace who we are NOW. Look happier not younger!
Amen. Sending you a big, socially-distant hug to you from my 83 year-old perch in mid-Florida wearing denium sborts & nice lived-in T shirts😻💕.
Love and Light.♥️♥️
lol. If I can lose the covid 15 I definitely would look happier.
Thank you, Erin! As always, you've helped us all. You're, BY FAR, my favorite fashion blogger on UA-cam! Enjoy your week :)
Wow, thank you, Missy! You are so sweet! xo
Yes, Erin...this is great!! I can guess where you got the "before" outfits - LOL. I don't understand why the "over 40" stores have styles that are so frumpy and dated. I stay far, far, away from those stores. Great video as usual...thanks!!
Exactly! Thank you, Nancy! xo
I totally agree on those over "40" stores! I am 74 and shop at Anthropologie and Nordstrom!!
Can you name names? Is it Christopher Banks or Loft? Am I wrong?
Plus sized designs are also horrible.
Nancy Harris my daughter in law wont shop at Chico’s, or JJill, 😬
Welcome, Tina! Will do! xo
This is an older blog post, but I think you might still find it helpful: busbeestyle.com/top-5-best-plus-size-brands-for-curvy-women/ I'm so sorry that you're struggling to find the right tops for your beautiful body, but it does sound like you're searching strategically...which is so important! xo
Loved the time capsule and before and afters. Your descriptions of what makes one outfit modern and the other one not were so helpful -Kathy
Glad you enjoyed it, Kathy!
I'm so glad this was helpful. It is a balance! xo
I really enjoyed this video!! I love a lot of the shoes that you modeled. I struggle with bunions and some shoes make them look worse... hoping to keep an eye out for some of the ones you showed. 🙂
Showing the before and after side by side is really helpful.
I actually love the time machine graphic, made me giggle and thought it was so creative! Thanks for this video Erin. Creeping toward 40 and trying to stay stylish but also dress my age!
Thank you, Jaime! xo
Amazing information thank you I needed to know all of this !!!! ❤
Okay I know the long boxy jacket isn’t the most flattering in terms of doing your figure a favor; but it is just so beautiful. If I was as thin as you, I’d rock it.
I love it too!
I watched this video twice. Very informative and helpful, especially about the shoes. Thanks, Erin! You look gorgeous in that yellow blazer.
I watched twice as well, Barbara. Lots of good information.
Glad it was helpful, Barbara! xo
