Dominique was definitely the man. However, I think Bowie gets an unfair view and narrative from a sports historians and fans. He was actually a really great player. If it wasn’t for the injury, who knows what might have been.
Everyone knows about Dominique, so I'll leave Dominique right there! Hugh Durham may be the first SEC coach to recruit NYC, and that team may be the only one in SEC history with an all-New York City backcourt, with Vern Fleming and Eric Marbury. And Vern Fleming might be THE most accomplished, yet unsung point guards ever to come out of New York: SEC First Team, Final Four, Olympic Champ, 12 years in the NBA! On Sam Bowie, that game tells you why he should not be considered a bust! Dude's game was THAT NICE! Made the Olympic Team as a freshman, came back after two and a half years hurt to lead Kentucky to a Final Four! That's not a bust, folks! And I knew Dirk was known for defense, but I forgot how much ups he had! He banged it on Vern.....!!!!!!!
Don't forget Tennessee's Ray Mears recruited Bernard King and Ernie Grunfeld out of NYC before that. Enjoyed the post. Vern was incredible player. Interesting that Georgia made Final Four the year after Nique left. I was never a fan of Nique, although IMO he's the best dunker ever and a good guy.
4:40 Wow, his head was above the rim... Imagine if he never got injured... I think a couple of weeks later, Bowie had his devastating career-altering injury.
I was a big fan of Minniefield back in the day. He never quite lived to his full potential but was a very gifted athlete that showed many flashes of greatness.
#10 Vern Fleming for Georgia was smooth too. He went on to have a nice NBA career. ....'Nique was the truth! And basketball was so much more pleasant to watch without the 3-point line.
Bowie was ridiculously skilled. Really one of the first 7-footers to handle and shoot away from the basket. If he had stayed healthy, he would have been a perennial NBA All-Star.
One of the greatest two feet leapers of all time.
Dominique was outta control. Note Stephon Marbury's older brother Eric wearing #3 for Georgia
Bowie and Kentucky beat IU @ Indiana in Dec.then IU went on to win the title...Bowie would have been one of the best ever at UK without injuries
No Doubt.

His body was pretty gangly, I don't know if it was designed to hold up under any scenario.

+Mahad Mohamed His athleticism was scary. He was also very skilled.
@@KenBoogie He dunked like Patrick Ewing
Dirk Minnifield with another big dunk
FACTS

For some reason, I enjoy watching these old school college battles much more than any modern NBA games.
I liked basketball when the objective was to see how close you could get to the basket, not how far away you can get from it.
Because there was no ridiculous 3-point shooting.
2:38 Look at the angle bro attacked the rim A Dog 🦍
Thank you Portland
This game got their attention
I miss those days

What a game..
TheCrunchySopa and Not even the whole game
Great performance, the Wildcats win.
dont recognize him without the flattop
Savage times, because of ''No 3pt Line''..
I was thinking the exact same thing..
Basketball was better without the 3-point line.
My uncle is #42
Crazy.. there's no 3 point line
Who won???
Kentucky did
HOPS!!! 5:34
Why is mcguire crying about bowie grabbing the rim. The rim didnt even move when he threw it down lol
He was wondering about Georgia not adjusting and continuing to front Bowie, as he was getting easy dunks.
Where’s Dirk Minniefield when you need him?
The true for e to reckon! Ask Mike! Hello?
Sam Bowie 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Georgia gave that game away...stupid plays at the end
First highlight I've seen of Bowie in college. I take it people thought he was gonna translate into a Kareem in the NBA? Lol.
He got hurt
Bowie would have been devastating healthy.
Bowie was such a stiff. Looks like an alien.
Il give him credit on the blocks, though.
Bowie was no joke, he had good athleticism, maybe not like Sampson, but close.
Need to go watch some more clips of him. Kid was an athlete. One of the first 7-footers to run the floor and move like that.
Justin Timberlake was born the day this game was played. :)
No skill.. Simply height
+Contrxband Bowie was very skilled. He could board, block shots and could shoot it. Also passed like a guard. Injuries killed his career.

I never liked this dude !
