The only reason why I believe it was not higher is that it was Dominique's Go to dunk when he needed guaranteed points, so they've seen it quite often. It to me is very similar to the dunk from the free throw line, that It has been seen so much now even though very few people can do it that it does not Garner the same amount of excitement and Prestige.
@@bigdan9850 i agree with the reasoning, but I can do a 1 hand windmill (amateur version) . 2 hands with full motion is ridiculously harder to do. I don't think I've seen anyone replicate that.
Even MJ admitted Wilkens won it. The announcers, the other players (look at Drexler's reaction), and anyone not sniffing MJ's jock strap knows Wilkens won it. What gets me is how MJ tries to put it off on Dr. J for him doing the same inside the foul line dunk twice. Making 2 out of 3 of them. All three times he stepped past the foul line. Also, Wilkens says MJ told him that he (Wilkens) won. He said MJ stated, "we both know it, but this is Chicago"
If the 1988 NBA slam dunk contest wasn't in Chicago. Dominique Wilkins would've won it! Because Dominique Wilkin's very last dunk was a 50, the NBA fronted on Nique!
Yeah that 45 for his Las dunk was bs. It looked better than Jordan's #2 cradle dunk and got a weaker score. Jordan also missed two dunks in the series.
He did not a no problem accepting a trophy he did not deserve, you could see in his face and here in his voice he did not deserve that slam dunk trophy...
Absolutely EPIC contest, I never get sick of watching it! Today's NBA will never be able to replicate the dunk authority alone how they punished the rim! Nowadays they're afraid to hurt their pretty manicured hands when dunking there is no authority..these two tried to MURDER the rim on each dunk!!
Even though The Nique lost against Air Jordan in this historic match, I still have respect for him. That was a battle between titans, both 2x dunk champions with great leaps the power to smash a backboard. In NBA Street Vol.2, I use BOTH their unique dunks for my character in respect. I think this duel is what made them became friends. But, to be serious for this very close contest, although I love MJ, I had the feeling Dominique probably should've won, because Michael repeated the moves he did in the previous '87 contest like the legendary free throw jump. And, ALL the dunks should be 50!
MJ dunk was almost repetitive.. Dominique I think was more creative N add different variety his style.. But MJ was fascinated with what he's does.. I think it was unfairly bais... Good competition...
Thanks for uploading this video, it allows me to see, as if it were live, that competition, since I had not seen it and surely, it was the first one in which Jordan gave those tremendous jumps, dunking!
He makes it look so effortless. Amazing dunk! Definitely not appreciated the way it should be. Vince's overall power on his dunks make it look that much better, where Jordan seems to stay up there forever.
Jordan winning the contest was the biggest joke. He repeated dunks, didn't even do his free throw line dunk as good the last time around and yet he still got a 50. Ridiculous. Jordan is amazing don't get me wrong. But he didn't deserve that win at all.
@@bboyStuntZ nah. i wouldn't go that far. i do agree nique was better, but some of these jordan dunks are severely underrated. the original 'elbow' dunk was nice. double pump was nice. but yeah too many leaners and FT dunks. remember back then they couldn't try something too hard because they only have 2 chance to complete the dunk. so in a way this was similar to how lavine won over gordon back 16. gordon got jobbed, but it really wasn't that outrageous.
Jordan always have that winning motion in the air. Most of the dunks MJ put on in this contest went straight to posters around the world cos theyre simply stunning
Difficult to say !!! Mj cant do the dunks of dominique and dominique cant do the dunks of mj !!! Different styles , i would give fifties in all of the dunks !!!!should be a raw !!! Such as the prize of mvp can be nominated in two !!!
@arrganilaiyg badulaiyg but Jordan was more finesse, & he looks amazing in the air. Wilkins dunks were just power, he looks awkward, I don't like his movements up there. Just my opinion.
Wilkins had the same dunks, all power dunks with little creativity. He was getting high scores with a couple of gifts as 50's. Jordan had a bunch of 47's that deserved to be 49 or 50's so if anyone was getting robbed it was him.
Why he got robbed????In every competition he was doing the same dunks, wind mill, wind mill and wind mill!!I dont think he should win also on the 1985 contest, take a look the dunks that did MJ !!!
Man, that's great. This is the only time I can remember someone not crumbling beneath the weight of Jordan. And Nique was right there, and in my opinion, won.
Great way to put it… in his own backyard, Nique was in control and he absolutely knew was at stake. He was in control of everything. That was Jordan’s last dunk contest.
So glad to have seen Dom playing in Greece and kicking ass in Europe...He was still absolutely phenomenal....MJ is God. Period. But that Dom windmill was NOT a 45.....Was probably a 55 or something :)
Regardless of who won or lost the great thing about old school basketball was the level of competition and the killer instinct the legends all had. Dominique was an all time great but Jordan's foul line dunk is as iconic today as it was then.
Not exactly. It wasn't his. It was Dr J's. Unoriginal dunno that he missed in the first attempt in the final round..... thats what they have s victory to. Ridiculous. Nique was robbed and everybody knows it. Time just makes it worse.
10:30 - 16:30 - 19:57 these three Jordan dunks are my favourite, the way his head almost touches the ring at 10:30 & the way he changes directions in mid flight at 16:30 is phenomenal, but the free throw line dunk at 19:58 decimates all dunks that came before or after, Air Jordan takes off like a goddamn F-16 & is as graceful as a ballerina & the shock wave afterwards leaves us all in awe.
This will always be my favorite Dunk Contest with 2 great legends. Dominique got cheated, there's NO way his dunk was a 45 & he never missed a dunk. The judges gave the home team a gift bc how do u miss your 1st dunk & u make the 2nd & the judges give u a 50 🤷🏾♂️ GTFOH . . .

Wilkinsons jumps off two feet every time, Mike mixes it up one and two feet looks better to me.😊 Yes they screwed up the scoring and the announcers kinda over react so it seems that it was highway robbery but if actually go off the dunks it honestly could've went either way.
For those who think about Vince Carter´s elbow dunk... 10:36, and jumping from the side. This dunk is one of the most underrated dunks!
Tough scoring the whole competition.
Could've broke his arm comin at at that angle very impressive
Michael my man but that 45 robbed Dominique of that title.
If it wasn't in Chicago stuff would be different IMO. Nique has a career that folks overlook. That dude was badass. I loved his game.
@@harmonicdissent 100% Agree!!! Have thought that since the moment I saw it live all those years ago ; )
Glad to know someone else agrees ; ) Nothing against MJ
Both are my favorites
nique getting a 45 was the setup for Jordan winning.
@@harmonicdissent And he is respectful and humble too. He deserved more.

@@cliffedwards3382 Easy Mr. Technical we're talking about a dunk off not English classes sir 🤫
I like the sound of the old rims back then when u hear the cracklin crunching of the rim right at the moment when the dunk is executed. Nowadays it sounds completely different.
Blame Shaq. Lol
I like those sound rims
Camera audio makes a difference too
Thank Shaq for that.

Iconic stuff…these broadcasters madd classy and these dunks were masterpieces…
That two handed windmill should’ve been higher than a 45
The only reason why I believe it was not higher is that it was Dominique's Go to dunk when he needed guaranteed points, so they've seen it quite often. It to me is very similar to the dunk from the free throw line, that It has been seen so much now even though very few people can do it that it does not Garner the same amount of excitement and Prestige.
@@bigdan9850 i agree with the reasoning, but I can do a 1 hand windmill (amateur version)
. 2 hands with full motion is ridiculously harder to do. I don't think I've seen anyone replicate that.
That should have been a 50 all day
Hard
I give it a 46
His interview at the end says it all. He knows they fed him that win
True facts hands down 💯
The judges wanted to get out the arena safely! It is in Chicago!🤣 #Dwilkins 🏆
Amen
solflp ...'Nique won that Slam Dunk competition, and Air Jordan knew it!!!
I wonder if Nique truly cares that he “lost” this Contest.😂
Nope windmills got old as shit
Yeah that 45 for his Las dunk was bs. It looked better than Jordan's #2 cradle dunk and got a weaker score. Jordan also missed two dunks in the series.
“I would have given Dominique close to a 50 for that dunk”. - Michael Jordan
Dom won that dunk off no doubt about it
He did not a no problem accepting a trophy he did not deserve, you could see in his face and here in his voice he did not deserve that slam dunk trophy...
@@jimmiebazz2586 he deserved it. He's not the judge
And Dominique Wilkins was a powerful, finesse player. Beautiful to watch.
2016 Dunk Contest >>> this Dunk Contest
This video took me right back to my youth watching this. And it reminded me of the robbery that took place. Dominique should have one.
Wilkens was doing the same boring dunks the whole day (forward and reverse). He was getting high scores when they should have been lower.
Probably?
Mike still need to send Nique his trophy that he stole.
Thanks for uploading this video, it allows me to see, as if it were live, that competition, since I had not seen it and surely, it was the first one in which Jordan gave those tremendous jumps, dunking!
I rememeber watching this live. Man! It was awesome!! I feel sorry for the kids nowadays didnt have a chance to experience it
I mean its on youtube for anyone to watch anytime. So they can still experience it
This is amazing.. my dad had a VHS recording of this when I was a kid!
MJ was like a got damn ballerina dunking so graceful
Jordan's last dunk in the semifinals is way underrated. His elbow was in the rim. Vince did that with a straight up dunk.
true
Agreed. That elbow deep dunk was sweet
He makes it look so effortless. Amazing dunk! Definitely not appreciated the way it should be. Vince's overall power on his dunks make it look that much better, where Jordan seems to stay up there forever.
@@troypostie1252 it is especially when you see all the angles.
Especially the replay
The commentary for this dunk contest was amazing
jordan getting 47 was a joke. nique getting 45 was even more joke
That Jordan 50 dunk was the most iconic dunk of all time. Keep dreaming !
@@bboyStuntZ You can say the same thing if it was in Atlanta Nique would have won.
Agreed..
Nique got robbed. Still was the best final of the early era of dunk contests. Spud Webb was the most impressive year before.
Yeah he did. He out-dunked Jordan. Been saying it for 33 years.
P
Little to the people in the arena know that THAT one dunk Jordan did would change history forever
Imagine doing this or having the imagination almost 40 years ago!? Color TV and cable was everything and basically a privilege back in 88
Jordan was a perfect symphony. He was poetry in motion.
But that was rigged bullshit.
Jordan always have that winning motion in the air. Most of the dunks MJ put on in this contest went straight to posters around the world cos theyre simply stunning
I watched every Bulls game growing up and was the MJ Superfan but Nique was nuts. Same with Shawn Kemp
Kemp, all he had was a dunk
Holy shit Wilkins throws it down hard! 2 hand windmill was brutal!
The great dunker and the greatest player of all time in our generation. That is no other than Michael Jordan, the living legend.

@arrganilaiyg badulaiyg they weren't gonna let MJ lose in Chicago lol fans would've had a riot
@@r3tr0actiongamer24 Doesn't change that Wilkins should've won he clearly had the better dunks
How could you give another 50 on the same dunk from further in and he missed the first attempt?
it wasn't from further in and the first miss should not affect the score
@@mojebi3804 it was from further in by a couple inches, not much but it was a hair...
Popularity plays a part in sports, not just who does better, look at pro bowlers every year... nobody in sports has ever been more popular than Jordan
At 12:55, the slo-mo replay of my all-time favorite dunk! Just perfect form and power by Dominique. He got robbed BIG TIME...
Why he got robbed????In every competition he was doing the same dunks, wind mill, wind mill and wind mill!!I dont think he should win also on the 1985 contest, take a look the dunks that did MJ !!!
The One off the Backboard stopped in mid air and reached out and jammed it with authority! That one!! Always off the 2 feet!! Amazing
Wilkins lob of the glass is still impressive even till this day.
That's because the woosies in the NBA today couldn't do it. Imagine Nique and Jordan in todays sneakers even. And the extra spring off the court.
@@chadsem Ide actually tune in to today's NBA game if that happened.
Man, that's great. This is the only time I can remember someone not crumbling beneath the weight of Jordan. And Nique was right there, and in my opinion, won.
It's the first time I ever heard Jordan admit he was scared because of the pressure. Showed a very humble side of him.
Great way to put it… in his own backyard, Nique was in control and he absolutely knew was at stake. He was in control of everything. That was Jordan’s last dunk contest.
Let me tell ya, watching this live was something else. It's Michael Jordan, then every other basketball player in earth history
So glad to have seen Dom playing in Greece and kicking ass in Europe...He was still absolutely phenomenal....MJ is God. Period. But that Dom windmill was NOT a 45.....Was probably a 55 or something :)

@@STREETCODE-d9z The God you mention is an equal part of a trinity so definitely not ONE....at least learn your religion....
🎯 these Nique fanboys tweakin
All three of those where suppose to be 50
Love watching 23jordan every game was young want to go back to the 70s
Back in the days where judges were not quick to give a 50
