Your 2nd Gen Silverado (Probably) Needs This - Cabin Air Filter “Retrofit” Kit

- So full disclosure I've owned this truck for 7 years and just now did this, so don't be like me, go do yours now if you haven't already!
So from new these MFs don’t have the slot cut out for the cabin air filter. This was a corner cutting technique from the factory, and the plan throughout GM management was to cut them out and install filter kits as they came in and REQUESTED it (under warranty of course) but obviously most people don’t even consider a cabin air filter for many miles and now we have a bunch of these trucks left over needing this “mod”

Great tip! I used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel. A plastic knife might be better, but I didn't want to burn myself in a tight spot. Took about 10 minutes to cut it out. I also removed the blower resistor to give better access.

I was at the - take off the heavy duty cover step and did a quick scan of - where is the cutout...

Huge help- I was going crazy looking at all the other variants (which don't quite match) saying to myself "oh great, this is going to be one of those-apart-the-wholfuckin-dash to get to the filter" situations. Any insight into the location of the cabin air intake? Mine is smelling like rotting leaves and I'm sure there's a mess in there but want to try a shop vac first. Bless you sir, you are a hero among men.
Thanks for watching man! Air intake is under the wiper cowl on the passenger side. I think you’ll have to pull the wiper arms off to pull the cowl out. Probably find lots of goodies 😂

@@Hailie_FarmandYard I think another commenter mentioned the same thing. Did you watch the video entirely? I thought the same thing myself but was looking at the core housing, the slot for the filter was right next to it. But it’s entirely possible you don’t have a cut out, like I said I think someone mentioned that before with their 08 I believe…

@@RiggsCo yes I looked. I know 2007 checy changed the body style. It start out as the 2006 style then changed to the 2nd gen.

You put it in backwards.
Nope the arrow on the filter is pointed in the direction of airflow. It’s sucks in air, through the filter, to the blower motor. The “accordion” end of this filter is the back, the arrow is pointing with the airflow towards the fan. 👍
Nope that is the only way that it will go in the way the filter is built to be bent to fit in the opening
"A fuc*in shi++y situation" is right my Texas amigo! Love the hell outta my 09 Silverado Texas Edition but the cabin air filter thing is just plain old BS by Chevrolet.
Are you not supposed to remove the original filter?
There is no filter on these from the factory that’s what the “retro fit” kit is. It’s adding the access door to service the filter. From the factory GM cut a corner and shiped them all out with the access hole covered. Overtime that leads to a buildup on the screen in front of the heater core making it less efficient. Adding this kit eliminates that concern with a serviceable filter.

The 4 screws holding the cover up are 7mm and the one for the filter door is 1/4.

@@RiggsCo Awsome, bc I didn't know I didn't have 1 till I got a wiff of odor comin out the vent and was like what in the world... But do I need a box cutter type blade? Or is it thinner then what I thought? And stabs in kinda easy?
