Great review of the machine. I am a technician for a kubota dealer in oklahoma, been there for almost 2 years and i went to a certification class on our 850 sidekicks. The one major thing we discussed and trained on fkr sidekicks is since they are built more for speed reaching 40mph you lose power when loaded. Now there is an adjustment that can done for that, say you want more pulling power when loaded and to climb hills better the hydrostat can be adjusted allowing you more torque and power but it will reduce your take off speed and vise versa more speed less power. This adjustment can also be done on your X1140 just take it to your dealer and ask to have it done i dont recommend customers doing it themselves as the adjustment is very touchy and you need a pressure gauge for the adjustments. Now one thing i cannot say for certain is that while the machine is still under warranty if they will allow that kind of adjustment to be made or not. It may void the warranty if any issue occurs after making such adjustment or it may depend on how lenient your dealer is. Hope this helps you or just gives you some more insight on how the hydrostatic drive works. Overall i stand by our equipment and a BIG portion of the quality of any machine in my opinion is how well its treated by customer and maintained. Keep up with your services and keep fresh clean fuel running through it and she will treat you well they are a workhorse and built to last. Keep up the good reviews and making great videos!

My grandfather was about to buy a Polaris. But he chose kubota. He did his research and went and got a used 2009 Kubota. He loves it. One day we were using it to clear the skating rink on the pond (bad idea) and my uncle drove it on by accident and sunk it! We took it out and it started. It’s been just fine other than the water freezing up the axles in the winter lol. Great machine. Handed the ruts, bumps, snow, and hills on our 70 acre property.

The Kubota RTV also has a hydraulic hookup in the rear for running all kinds of farm implements. I haven't seen this on any other UTV's. Good job Stoney.

@StoneyRidgeFarmer I enjoy watching. I was raised running cattle, bailing hay, and all those awesome things us country folks enjoy. I am out in Northern NM where it's a dying way of living. You give me the that motivation to keep pushing and working to build a new farm. It's tough when it's not a handed down established farm and your starting from scratch but it's so fun isn't it? Great work!!!

After 5 months, are you still loving it? We have serious problems with the CVT and 4 wheel drive. Kubota will do nothing. It looks like nothing but glowing reports online but I posted numerous comments regarding these issues to warn would be buyers and most have been removed. I will never buy a Kubota product again.

We’ve had multiple Kubota RTVs on the farm and we’ve found that the amount of maintenance and oil/filter cost was just to much. Also, the top speed of 25 was to slow for the distance we travel. We switched to the Honda Pioneer 1000. Best all around machine for our farm. Kubota makes a nice machine though.

These have been the most reliable side by side we have had at my work. They last us 4 years, the mule would only last about 2 years. I work on the railroad these units are used 24- 7, with little to no care on how they are driven or maintained. If I where in the market the Kubota would be the one I bought, although I would opt for the one with AC.

I've had 3 different APUs (generators) on my trucks which had little 2 cylinder Kubota engines in them. They are fantastic little engines. One had over 20,000 hours on it. The only thing I had to do to it was a water pump and rear main seal. Both were pretty simple fixes.

Twenty some years ago I worked part-time for a small family owned construction company digging pools, ditches, and house foundations. I don't remember what type of Kubota tractor they owned, it had rubber tracks a backhoe and a small scrape blade on it. I put that tractor through some tough stuff and it never failed. I don't know much if anything about the UTV's but if it's built like their other equipment it will stand the test of time on your farm.

I rode around on an rtv 900 and it's so nice. The machine is super solid and the hydro drive is really torquey. It did great in the mud and I was able to get it out when I did finally get stuck in some really deep mud. It also had really strong engine braking because of the hydrostatic drive and I never had to use the brake pedal once. The one I rode in did great in everything except for top speed which doesn't really matter for the type of stuff I was doing in it and it was a pretty old one with over 5000 hours on it. The Diesel engine also started easily and ran great

Make sure you have the Kubota dealer replace the suspension control arm bushings (yes, you WILL be replacing them) with the proto type brass control arm bushings when the time comes. Kubota is very quietly these fielding for customers who are wearing them out. I have had to replace my control arm bushings 2 years in a row. My dealer brought in the Kubota rep. who thought I might be abusing my RTV x1100c until he looked at it and saw that it looked like it just came off the show room floor. We use our Kubota RTV almost exclusively for beekeeping approx. 100 hives and DO NOT abuse it. The factory rep then told me about Kubota knowing about this problem and having a few 100 prototype brass bushings made. I suspect hauling significant but within design limit weight (which a farm vehicle DOES) is causing the control arm bushings to prematurely wear out. STILL, I LOVE my Kubota! It has been a fantastic machine and am considering purchasing an RTV x1140 next. Oh yeah, almost forgot, go for the Kubota approved 2 inch lift and 28 inch tall tires. I did and love it. No more dragging the rear hitch crossing creeks and much better ground clearance without having to have issues stepping into the cab. Much appreciate the review! 👍

I'm impressed, I've had a Kubota tractor for almost 20 years... sold on Kubota... the only thing I dislike is the 25 miles an hour... if it only had another higher range I could even live with 40 mph...

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  5 років тому

The only complaint from most is the speed. The high range is not that of a galloping horse up a hill for sure....But for what we're using it for...it's perfect. I'd say the only time I every got the gator over 15-20 mph on the farm would be in extreme emergency or when we were on the black top headed to get gas at the gas station...now that waste of time is over

Get ready for all the "with that money you could buy a pick up truck with more power" blah blah blah. When we first bought our side by side for the farm we figured $5k used was alot of money to be spent a year later traded in for a new one that met our needs and was the best investment to get work done. Everyone know's exactly what you should buy but I bet 70% of them live in a subdivision on a 5,000 square feet land that think they know it all.

REALLY thorough, well done review and run-down on this machine. Just me, CAN’T ever seem to get past ‘ORANGE’...starting with their tractors, etc. Just MY opinion, although I’m aware they have some ‘CAMO’d models too. Kubota tractors DO seem to hold up, that much is pretty evident as I can figure. THIS RTV is apparently a well thought-out UTV, and as I’m learning WARRANTY’s ARE a big deal...and SHOULD BE. It’s a heck of an investment to say the least. Great job

He went the other way because his is just a 2 seater with AC and heat a radio completely in closed. Doors and windows all around. It has a small winch on the front and the 4X4 will tar up a yard fast with the big mud tires. I wish he would have gone the same rout you did.

The U joints in the rear went out on mine but it's because I didn't know there were grease fittings on them. I'm glad they went to CV joints on the X series. Someday I might get a new one but so far the one I have has been a great machine. I paid $14,000 for mine back in 2013.

I'm in central va so fairly similar weather in the winter those tires will hold you back in the sticky mud. Those sway bars are nice if you plan to drive it on the road but for off roading they will hold you back. We use 3 mule sx around our farm. They all have 2" lifts with extremely aggressive mud tires. we have never gotten them stuck that the diff lock couldn't solve. And they are cheap about half the price and have a lot of the same features as the kabota plus being able to fit in the bed of a truck if you have the 2 seater.

The kabota is great and heavy duty but some of them are very loud and having a conversation with your passengers will not be easy. The other thing I have noticed is after a period of time running they put off a lot of heat so in the summer if it is hot be prepared to sweat. They are handy and 4 wheel drive will let you go pretty much anywhere you want to go. The 4 passenger option is handy too.

Those little Kubota diesels are pretty stout. I've got a lawn mower with a Kubota D1105 and it's a little beast. I've got less than 5 acres so I don't really need a UTV as I just pull the old 79 Chevy pickup around and load anything I need to. But this looks like a real handy piece of gear for a piece of land as big as Josh's.

In the long bed configuration, the bed is 12.5” longer than the Gator bed. They are the same width and depth. The Gator has the single handle release tailgate which is better. The biggest drawback to these Kubotas is how utterly slow they are. The suspension is also too stiff for fun trail rides. But useful as a utility machine I guess.

Fascinating machine. I like what I saw. Now if you could get kabota orange seats…. I went and looked at the brochure on line. I would probably choose a configuration like yours. Add a rear bumper and extra lights up high. And include a wench. I really like the bed passenger conversion feature.
How stout is the hydrostatic transmission in this application? Do you need to worry about burning it out like you CVT belt drive transmissions?
I would like to see a 30 to 35 mph top speed. 20 to 25 seems to be a little frustratingly slow at times. And maybe 30 to 40 hp. Just a little extra oomph.

I have a 2011 Polaris Ranger diesel on our mountain property. It has served us well but we are looking to replace replace it. Thanks for the review.

Well done, thorough review. One note: as I understand it, the diff lock is only for the rear. You said it "locks all four wheels together", but I think it's really only 3 of the 4 (assuming the 4WD is engaged). If you were just in a short slippery spot, you could two-foot the pedals to use it locked and in 2wd, or for more prolonged use you can use the hand control and 4WD shifter. The lack of front locker and lower speeds are what make this sit between a skid steer and the more trail-oriented UTVs. They still offer their hydraulic PTO option for snow plows, etc., but they apparently stopped doing some really cool things like the hydraulic chainsaw.

These Kubota RTV's have a limited-slip front diff.

@@tlr-nut7275 Awesome, thank you! That should be sufficient (if not better) for most situations, anyway. I couldn't find a button for "person knows what a limited-slip is!", so I clicked like :)

Hey Josh good video I really enjoyed this one and underneath your seat that tray that they have there well what I would do is I would put ice in there keep my cool beverages in there so start putting water inside your ice trays and freeze it and that way you'll have it ready to put in there if you want

I really like the Kubota I have a BX2670 subcompact tractor probably the same setup as that X1140. runs great bought new two years ago no problems. Also on another note $16900 twenty seven years ago you could have bought two Geo metro convertibles and had enough money left for takeout. :-)

Suggestion for kubota.... offer a gun case option to replace the cargo tray under the seat. I try to keep a rifle with me on the farm but I hate beating around a 500 dollar gun. I really think that option would sell

They are the best things ever but if you go through lots of mud your wind shield usually gets really muddy so in my opinion I wouldn't get a windshield but if you do get it you'll probably never regret it 👍👍👍👍
