My power problem was that dang bolt stop under the gas pedal. When they assembled it and delivered it top speed was 13mph. I hunted, asked a lot of questions and discovered when i screwed the bolt all the way down I immediately achieved full power. 25 MPH. If it maxed out at only 13 I was going to return it asap! Occams Razor! ❤️ Great Channel! Thank you.
Add a little of power service kleen gray bottle to fuel tank to help clean injectors and improve combustion of fuel all my diesel engines love it and in winter use the white bottle for cold starts
I work on a military base in alabama and we've probably got 300 kabota diesels and all have over 1000 hours. I service them and I'll tell you they are so much more reliable than the Kawasakis than we run. Most problems we see are broken mufflers and brackets and park brake levers. Love those things. The one thing I saw you didn't check your hydro tank under the pass seat usually after the hydro filter change crank it and check the hydro tank it's usually a little low.
Josh, There is an oil tank under the passenger seat for the HST. Which feeds the 2 filters you replaced. The one under the tip bed is gear box oil only.
Your knowledge, experience .are invaluable. I am working on a battle scarred, 1100c 3740hrs.. Maintenanced...possibly. Lol. Maintain them and it appears it can roll till it eota away. Thanks again.
I cut the end off the muffler on my Arctic Cat Diesel ARV and completely gutted it, welded on a large tip, rewelded the end back on and sounds and runs better, Couldn't believe how restrictive the muffler was.
Just a little add to your test method. We have an 1100 C diesel. My manual says to run in low gear till machine warms up. When operating ease on the throttle rather than to the floor. Also it's starts to bog let off the throttle till you hear it catch up and equalize and resume pressing the throttle. Kubota says the hydrostatic trans can gulp to much oil causing a momentary loss of power. It's counter intuitive at first but it's easy once you learn it it becomes second nature . We've had this machine about 6 years now and we love it it's as tough and rough as cattle farming. Little trouble with belt squeak and fuel filter needs replacing regularly ( this is where we tend to lose power when dirty) Overall no complaints best thing we ever bought for the farm .
Not sure if anyone said this already, but when you just change the filters normally you won't loose any fluid in the hydro. You need to check the fluid in the dump box reservoir. It is separate from the hydro dip stick and has its own dipstick. It will go down when you change the filters and can make it act very funny if not full.
My 91 Bobcat skid steer has a spark arrester in the muffler. It helps stop sparks from coming out of the muffler that could start a fire in dry conditions.
I know this is way different than the problem that I had with a weed eater and I cleaned the spark arrestor and it ran like it did when it was new, one good thing it wasn't anything major nice video!
thanks for the info, we have one here on the farm that is doing something similar. i think part of the issue is the fuel filter. now i know something else i should do to help. Thanks.
Look at intimidator side by sides! Made in Arkansas ! Also mahindra side by side are actually made by intimidator. We had a Kubota, in Rockingham county. No matter what I did it just did not like our hills. Didn’t know about this trick though
I had a problem with my STIHL FS 240 R weedeater being severely underpowered. It was the same thing with a spark arrester being plugged. I just had to inscrew it, take out the filter part, then heat it red hot with a torch to burn off the soot.
I had the same problem with a rs 56 ,but I didn't have a torch handy so I soaked it in gas and used a nylon brush, it probably took longer but it worked!
If its possible I always pressure wash equipment before maintaining it. That keeps dirt out of where it doesn't belong. Thanks for presenting the socket set, may have to get a couple.
Working with Diesel Engine Product Development for one of the major auto OEM's - A diesel engines main functioning factor is breathing. Good intake air flow and equally good exhaust flow. What you did was required as small D engines dont have the complexity or the added functional costs of a regen burn system. Thats why what you did was a "poor mans regen". You may want to consider removing that particulate can and really give a good thorough interrnal cleaning by banging all the way around that can or gut it altogether. OEM's are required to have those installed but you are NOT required to keep them. Depending on the rest of the exhaust design, It may alter the decibles slightly but should not make it obnoxiously loud if you do gut it. But the even greater power gains and never having to worry about your engine being choked out in the future may be worth it.
Did you know you can get a hand throttle to keep those rpm’s up and ready for action. Any time you run at lower rpm’s with those filters you will get more residue build up keep it running high Kubota diesels love it
Good video. In the old days when we (law enforcement) used revolvers, Smith and Wesson taught us that if a wheel gun locked up, hit the frame with a rubber mallet. It would realign the levers inside. If it didn't work then you go inside the frame. Even after retirement, a small rubber mallet is still in my gun room tool box.
I see a lot of folks want to remove the arrestor. In the old days, or colder running equipment maybe, but newer stuff runs right at/near its heat limits. They get hot. I'm no physicist, but simple math says keep arrestor. (Middle of summer) + (tall dry grass) x (hot exhaust sparks) = Avoidable Excitement Arrestors are common. Usually they have a 'plug' on the bottom of the muffler. You block off tail pipe, remove plug, rev it, bang it evenly around, crap (flakes/soot/etc) drops out. Many a muffler has been replaced or 'other', when all they needed was cleaned. btw Josh, 3-4mph addition stating at 12ish 25 to 30%. I'd say that's pretty spectacular.
Good ol' Hammer eh. 🔨 When I owned my Jeep I had to carry a hammer with me for a few weeks, Starter was going. Some of the looks I'd get were priceless 😂 ✌💛🇨🇦
Alright Josh, you got me. I didn't even read the manual 🤣. I was just thinking the same thing about my RTV the other day and I haven't done this item as long as I've owned it. Thanks for the video and info!
Maintenance & cleanout procedure: The screen type spark arrester should be removed, cleaned, and inspected after every 100 hours of use. 1. The spark arrester is located inside of the exhaust pipe, and is fastened with two bolts. 2. Unfasten the bolts and remove the spark arrester. 3. Shake loosened particles out of the screen assembly and lightly clean the screen with wire brush. Soak in solvent and again clean with wire brush if necessary. 4. If any breaks in the screen or weldments are discovered, the assembly must be replaced
I have a camo 1100 rtv that we use for the farm and absolutely beat the thing. We took the back rack off because it got bent, front bumperbis absolutely trashed, hood will end up flying off.... cut out the muffler/arrestor.... rolls coal but has a tiny bit more power. Has lasted a long time and hopefully it'll last another couple years
Yep. Something is seriously wrong with that thing. I got 25mph on level ground also. I got tired of the sluggishness, hydro whine , noise and rough ride. Sold it and bought a Can Am Defender. Super quiet, great ride and 65mph.
I always use a paint pen and write the date and hours on the filter ends for reference. My muffler broke off so I changed the whole thing but I've seen the spark arrestor trick before.
Thanks! Bought my 2020 x1140 used. Not sure yet why but I get 38mph . I did notice the stop bolt behind the accelerator pedal was bent out of the way. Not sure if that is why but good luck. Thanks
Take it back to your dealer and have them fix the HST, there's a service bulletin regarding sluggish HST's in these units. The hydro pressures need to be adjusted. Also RTV's are very sensitive to inclines, put in low range when needed.
As soon as you mentioned your problem, I knew that was probably the culprit. Even gasoline/ two stroke and 4 stroke engines in side by sides, ATVs etc.. need that service over time. You are supose to remove the bottom screw and have someone cover the exhaust tip to stop flow from the exhaust pipe and rev it for a few revs and then release the towel blocking the tail pipe. do that 5 - 6 times.( the reason you remove the screws is to give the exhaust a place to escape) . you can also remove some of the tips on some models and clean it that way. Its pretty much like a metal internal baffle that gets clogged. Hope that makes sense Also try some Amsoil Diesel additive ( it boosts the Cetane) AND has a fuel system cleaner (4 in one fuel additive)
I have the same machine and wouldn't have known to do this. I do see it on the maintenance recs. Good looking out! A lot of complaints about general sluggishness of this machine and I guess there are mods out there. Top speed is supposed to be 25, but I've only had it go to about 15 without pushing it further. Agree that the 8-12 MPH or so for farm use is about the average in my (VA) similar to your rolling terrain.
I had a Kubota RTV, it worked good but it was very heavy, not great on muddy ground and if you needed to shift from forward to reverse in mud it was almost impossible.
What cetane number is the diesel fuel you use? Kubota, John Deere and most other manufactures require a minimum of 45 cetane on the new engines. The diesel fuel at the gas station or delivered is usually rated 40 cetane. Definition from Google ( Use a diesel fuel with too low of a rating, and the engine is going to run more roughly and without adequate power. Inadequate diesel fuel cetane rating means the diesel fuel isn't going to combust quickly enough in that engine.)
Josh, you are over tightening those filters, Hand tighten then turn a quarter turn by hand. I hope you lubed that yellow filter gasket, didn't see you do that. BFH is the all purpose special tool, right up there with the Gas Axe.
i love it when people don't read the owners manual the hydraulic fluid tank is under the passenger seat if its low you will lose speed and power.. that thing should do about 25mph in high range. the yellow stick is transmission fluid not hydraulic. even though there the same fluid.
Josh, you should ‘wet’ the filter before installing. Fill both filters once. Slowly go from vertical to horizontal while turning the filter. Magically the fluid will disappear into the filter element. This allows for horizontal fitment without losing fluid. There are different opinions on this approach but I would never install a dry filter. Oil is the lifeline of engine/trans. Why starve it of oil regardless of quickly it will fill under normal operation. IMHO
I would leave they bolt out that holds the spark arrested out for awhile so it can bang around inside longer knock some more carbon out. How many hours does Kubota say to do that maintenance at?
I took the spark arrestor off of my stihl chainsaw and noticed a HUGE increase in power. Have you thought about removing the spark arrestor from this. I just bought an RTV-X1140 partially because of your recommendation.

I had the same problem with my stihl chain saw. I took the muffler apart and the screen was solid black. Took it off and started the saw it had the power it was supposed to have. I left the spark screen off.
Sounds to me you might wont to do the same to your side by side.
That sticker is awesome really gets the point across and funny too
Thanks stoney 🤗
I have the 1100x
It’s a slug.. it has about 80 hrs on it and it will barely hit 12 mph up a slight grade
I’m gonna try this. If it makes a little bit of difference I’m gonna guy the muffler.
Thanks
Adjust for more fuel.
If ya put put around all the time they will carbon up.. need to drive it hard some times...
The hillbilly in me says to take that muffler off 😂 great video Josh
Great video! So is the Kubota still the better diesel farm utv?
I have owned one for five years and would not trade it for anything. Built like a tank and will be in service long after the gas powered buggies are in the junk yard.
@@markmarquardt8016I need an upgrade! I'm hoping to get rid of my Trans mule..... it is not farm worthy!
