Surprised no mention of Murkrow seeing how dominant it is now in VGC meta and how it's a great example of how the pre evolution plays drastically different than the evo

Was gonna mention this, I know VGC isn't Joey's specialty but a NFE Pokemon that is dominating a meta like that definitely deserves its praise. RBY lower tiers have a lot of funny examples of just how centralized the metagame is around certain factors; Kadabra and Haunter are in UU for amazing typings, great special, and speed, similar to their evolutions in OU. You can get away with Dragonair in UU even with Dragonite present because DAir doesn’t have a 4x Ice weakness. Poliwhirl is right next to its evolution in the NU banlist for pulling a lot of the same Sleep + Amnesia shenanigans. Exeggcute doesn’t run the RBY NU metagame but it does have a pretty solid niche in the tier. Staryu performs well as a fast special attacker with status spreading and good coverage in RBY PU, just like its OU evolution. Drowzee, Dragonair, Omanyte, Abra, Graveler, and Gastly also compose the tier, and although they aren’t top-ranked threats, they perform adequately and help to check a lot of the centralizing figures. The very fresh ZU tier is still being explored with new drops like Arcanine, but it also has a variety of NFEs like Poliwag, Slowpoke, Weepinbell, Diglett, Machoke, Pikachu, and Tentacool. A lot of these NFE Pokemon outperform a lot of FE Pokemon that perform way better in more modern or simply non-RBY generations, like Weezing, Muk, Marowak, Hitmonlee, Beedrill, and Butterfree.

Modest xerneas is outsped by +speed nature pikachu, and the combination of fake out, knock off and volt tackle could KO xerneas guaranteed. Fake out to flinch, knock off their power herb and then volt tackle for the KO. It was a roll with volt tackle, but guaranteed after rocks.
Kyogre speed ties with plus speed nature pikachu, and volt tackle was always a guaranteed ko so if you win the speed tie, or if they're just not max speed, you'd get some hype clips.

Dunsparce now has way more bulk than Dudunsparce, though it's lackluster speed does require some team support, it has just as much potential to successfully paraflinch a variety of opponent's as its evolution. Primeape has been doing a great job of upholding the Legacy of terror that it's evolution was able to achieve OU in lower tiers and I've even seen Stantler see a bit more use in doubles for its unique ability to Skill Swap Intimidate. GSC has some fun examples of NFE Pokemon situating themselves in lower tiers and outcompeting fully evolved Pokemon. Scyther is one of the three tyrants of the GSC UU tier alongside Granbull and NidoQUEEN. Haunter is top tier in GSC UU and very disruptive in the Spikes meta, Chansey and Kadabra are both solid, and even Pikachu finds a niche as a powerful special breaker.
GSC NU has Pineco as a top tier Spikes setter and physical check, Gloom as a great status spreader, and Chinchou and Magnemite as good special checks. Graveler, Dragonair, Porygon, Pupitar, Houndour, and Exeggcute can all find niches as offensive-defensive Pokemon with great coverage, just like their evolutions.
Poliwhirl and Seadra dominate the GSC PU meta, buoying up other NFEs like Voltorb, Flaaffy, and Elekid. Gastly, Abra, Drowzee, Cubone, Machoke, Omanyte, and Rhyhorn are all great picks that play similarly to their evolutions in higher tiers, with the breathing room of a lower powered metagame. Golbat is a neat disruptor with a good defensive typing, Charmeleon has rare powerful Fire STAB, Eevee has Growth + Baton Pass, Geodude can rapid spin and explode with a a useful offensive-defensive typing, Slowpoke and Staryu find small niches as Water types with useful balanced profiles, and Ponyta has a fast Fire STAB and Hypnosis.
Then you’ve got GSC ZU, completely ruled by Croconaw. Some NFEs, like Poliwag, Quilava, and Wartortle were simply too good, leaving Croconaw as the top-Water. Magby and Smoochum are dangerous special breakers that can stand up to and punch through Croconaw and FEs like Togetic, Butterfree, and Parasect. The tier is actually mostly NFE, with tons of unique GSC-flavor from Nidorino, Nidorina, Mareep, and Natu imitating the niches of some of their older brethren.
Yanma is probably the saddest fully evolved Pokemon of the generation besides obvious candidates like Shadow Tagless Wobbuffet and Unown. Good thing Speed Boost + Tinted Lens and Yanmega brought it back to life in Gens 3 + 4.

Another example is snover in gen 4 UU as snover was used to activate hail teams which absolutely dominated the tier with Stallrein and Glaceon
Last example is Dragonair in Gen 1 UU as it has a niche of being able to survive a tentacruel blizzard while dragonite cannot meaning it can threaten Tentacruel with a Thunder wave unlike it’s evolution
