      Obesity by itself is not a disease but it hinders them to be active.so they can easily decrease gradually in a long time but with patience by practicing fasting not only this but also stopping consuming of meat of all types.
      A person should do this however people fail to do this.

      Lillie, you ans dr. Paul S, are adding carbs and sugars becouse you 2 are working out more than avarage people. I'm 53 and i am doing verry well with the lion diet/ omad for the past 2 years. Also i have so many surgeries, on my back, neck and other surgeries. Walking for me does great for my brain and body❤. But that's just me sweety. I ❤ all your videos

      I gave a Thumbs Up, although the white sugar and I believe white rice dietary intake sounds totally insane. I shall review the DR. who claims this is so. I also agree that any refined oils are toxic and the less Omega 6 the better

    He seems to forget though, that not everyone's body works the same. I was not able to get rid of type 2 diabetes without axing sugar. My body has proven to me that it performs best without sugar!

      Just a question. By sugar do you mean fruit or like processed sugar and carbs like pasta bread cookies and cakes? Because I am not active at all. I’m a woman over 40 who has struggled with my weight most of my life and I do very well on his diet. I’m like a lot seriously. I used to be carnivore but it didn’t work for me. I think there must be some biological reason for this. We all need to stop making such blanket statements. Carnivore will work for some and so will animal based with fruits. What doesn’t work for anyone is a high processed diet of junk.

    100% convinced that cheap seed oils are the No. 1 cause of modern day health problems, especially vegetable oil found in cookies, cakes, and pretty much all processed foods.

      Well they're procesed so typically already oxidized and from plants that are highe in deuterium. So vegg and fruits aren't that much better either and fructose is like 7x more glycating than glucose.

      He literally quantified that in the first 5 minutes of this conversation. And quantifies it in almost every other conversation he has. He even has a calculator on his website to help people estimate their carbohydrate intake based on their activity level.

    I think Dr. Saladino's approach makes sense for individuals like himself who are HEALTHY AND ACTIVE. Most people are UNHEALTHY & SEDENTARY. I think a more strict low carb/Keto/Carnivore diet would work to get them back on track to HEALTHY.

      That's totally true. If we're fit, we'll eat whatever we want and be healthy for sure. Our lifestyle is different and for myself a carnivore is the way to go.

      I have the same feeling. He is extremely active, gets plenty of sunshine AND he lives in a warm climate where fruits are naturally there and part of the environment. Living in a much colder climate, fruit makes at least no sense in the colder months. I did try some local fresh fruit late summer and fall, but my body still didin't like it, at all. Maybe after years being a carnivore and healed up more, my body could do it? Also, take iodine as it is missing in all our diets - so that will help the thyroid.

      ​@@YamatoForever actually not true unless you regularly revise and reduce further. Eventually the body gets used to the calorie consumption and revises the metabolic rate to be able to store fat on the reduced calorie intake.

      Exactly! If we eat seasonally we will eat what is appropriate for the climate… temperature, light, etc and how it triggers our DNA, we can incorporate more carbs based on activity and temperature and light.
      But I definitely agree that seed oils are causing diabetes. I feel that PUFAs are hardening the cells, causing misshaping, causing mis-functioning and insulin intolerance. It’s like the receptor and the hormones don’t connect anymore. And since our cells are made of essential fatty acids too much PUFAs are mutating our cells.

    After watching this I'm really starting to understand that we (including the experts) really don't completely understand how our bodies respond to the spectrum of foods out there. I'm just going to do what works for me (95% Carno) and listen to my body.

      I think that's the bottom line for everyone. Try different things, tweak as necessary till you find what works best for YOU. I'm basically keto carnivore and believe it's best for ME for NOW.

      I think the problem is people are looking for ONE perfect way to eat, but we are all individuals. We have to look at each person as an individual. There are some people, like Kelly Hogan, who knows she cannot eat carbs. There are people like Saladino who need carbs. I just don't think anyone should be using the word "everyone." And I've been Carnivore for 4 1/2 yrs with astounding results, now 69yo. Sometimes I eat strict CV for weeks, months. Sometimes I eat some fruit, maybe raw honey in my tea.

    This friggin' orthorexia is driving me crazy! How come EVERY other animal on the planet knows what to eat, when to eat, how often to drink, etc. EXCEPT for the (allegedly) most intelligent species of them all?       I am originally from the mountain atlas of Morocco and every one’s living past 90 years and no cancer at all and they eat a mixed diet which consists of meat, chicken, nuts , argan , olive oil , fruit of the season, vegetables and breads and they’re all fine , I just don’t understand people in the west going extreme on everything.

    Paul may be correct, for some people. Not me.
    I went full carno in May for two months. Lost 21 lbs (200 to 179), came off my BP meds and felt amazing. In July I decided to try Paul’s approach. I added fruit and honey. Within three days I was (once again) eating Oeros and ice cream. It was the sugar, it was the carbs. One banana and all I could think of was wanting MORE. I had no self control at all. Also, the more sugar I ate the more depressed I got and then the more sugar I ate to find a little happiness.
    Fast forward to December and I’m back up to 197 lbs. BP is high and I’m depressed for most of the day. :(.
    I’m now a week back into full carnivore and feeling great. I had that first week of mostly water weight lost (5 lbs for me) and I feel light as a feather. Tons of energy and zero depression.
    I think what Paul misses is addiction and exercise. Most of us are addicted and none of us can get the exercise he does being a single guy in Puerto.

      I think it's worth echoing one of Lili's comments. Maybe your protein/meat content was not high enough. As for the Oreos and ice cream - don't buy them! Also circle back on your gut biome. If you are starting from a SAD, your gut biome is likely more obesogenic. Try to eat Kimchi, Sauerkraut, Kefir regularly. As your gut biome changes, your cravings for food types will change

      Parasites also cause sugar cravings and diabetes and blood sugar issues. They can live in your pancreas. Research it. Start do antiparasitics weekly. Research h herxheimer reaction.

    My husband added an all fruit smoothie once a day and after a few months he gained 30 pounds. I had never seen him so fat. Developed OSA. He quit the fruit smoothie, lost the 30 pounds, no more OSA, and he looks incredible. He works out every day. Eats low to moderate carbs otherwise. The only variable was the fruit that he added, then removed.

      @@TehLiquid No, it's not. In end of the day, it is the energy that matters. But it's not just the energy of glucose, it is also that the blood sugar spike might increase hunger after it comes down. So you might end up eating more after the smoothie than you would without the smoothie.

      No, you can't overeat fat or meat. Because when you eat proper nutrient loaded food, that switch in your brains that tells you you are full will turn and you will not want to eat. Physically, you'll feel like throwing up if you take another bite. I went from vegan to carnivore overnight. I can say I was never satiated when eating vegan. I'd graze all day long. I could overeat anything . But when I ate animal foods, I never could overeat even if I wanted to. My body physically rejected it if I tried to eat more than my body needed. Try it. You'll want to throw up if you eat more fat and meat than your body needs at the moment.@beastbombshell3589

    I tried the Carnivore diet and lost muscle and hair, couldn't sleep and had electrolyte imbalances. I watched a video saying to eat more meat and fat and also add electrolytes if I'm having this trouble. My health only got worse. I felt horrible. My health didn't turn around until I added fresh fruit and raw milk into my diet. Then I got my muscle back, my hair back and I started sleeping again. It's been over 2 years now and I feel great! Thank you Dr . Paul :)

      Yep. Adrenals were hosed, lost hair, felt shaky and never recovered from workouts. Leg cramps, heart palpitations. Fruit solved all this!!

    What it comes down to for me personally, as a middle aged woman, is the more active I am, the more carbs I can tolerate. The less active I am, the less carbs I can tolerate. I just go by feel most days. You just have to find your own sweet spot.

      Yes, I found this out for myself. I have been measuring since I've been low carb. For me, if I go below 120 carbs daily, my energy level really drops so my work outs aren't good. I think my sweet spot is somewhere around 150grams daily. When I do have a day where I'm not working out or doing a lot, I can drop my carbs down and everything seems to stay on point.

      I think fruit can quench the thirst of people who race around in hot weather where there's no water to drink. When I used to eat carbs like potato,I need lots of fat with them to make them palatable. I've always craved for fatty foods. I love dairy,milk etc.

    Nope, disagree completely. I've been on every diet in the world and got diabetes!! No matter how healthy i ate. Its sugar and carbs that killed me. Now I'm healing from diabetes, fatty liver and diverticulitis on a carnivore diet. I did the fruit and meat diet and started getting diabetes again. In all due respect saladino is a very healthy active man, most will continue damaging themselves eating like he does. And I'm sorry, saladino saying that rice, sugar and honey does bot cause diabetes is irresponsible and dangerous.
    More people have cured their diseases eating carnivore and people eating carbs continue to get sick and fat.

    I'm carnivore a few years, but ala Saladino, I ate half a watermelon last summer. So good. Blood glucose shot to 187. Did some brisk walking for half an hour and BG came down to 120. Stopped eating fruit and back to Carnivore.

      I don’t see the issue? Of course your glucose rose with watermelon. Do you expect glucose to remain low all the time? It will always increase when eating.

      You become physiologically insulin resistant after restricting carbohydrates, this is to be expected. If you had that same amount of watermelon after a week of eating carbohydrates, the glycemic response would be much attenuated. Also, there is nothing inherently wrong with postprandial blood glucose rises, the keto/carnivore community have brainwashed us into thinking low blood sugar ALL THE TIME = health.... perhaps low fasting insulin, or low fasting blood sugar is a good proxy for health. But a rise in blood sugar after eating watermelon... This is the normal state of affairs!

      Hey my love. This is what happens when you go term no carbs. The body isn’t as good at responding to carbs and therefore you become insulin resistant. If you eat carbs more regular like say carb cycling then the reaction is less extreme. And also always eat your carbs after a heavy meal of meat and fat. That will help prevent a super high spike. But this is why I’m not carnivore anymore. I keep small amounts of fruit in my diet. I don’t eat it every single day though. Just when I’m craving it. I also typically go for berries! But I do enjoy me some watermelon in the summer for sure. Ate a lot of it this last summer.

      Also it is this insulin spike that helps regulate electrolytes! Which is so cool of you don’t over do it. No need for all the salt and minerals if you have like 1 fruit a day. Also avocados are a great low carb fruit that’s good for electrolyte balance. Good luck friend! You got this. Just listen to your body.

      That is a mind programming issue that needs addressing. Without addressing the addiction, then it's essentially just a bandaid solution. Not that there's no value in bandaid solutions, but acknowledge it for what it is. He used the word weak, which wasn't the best choice.

    I was vegan for 3.5 years. I ate fruit for breakfast and lunch and cooked low fat vegan dinners. During that time I went from 150 to 200 lbs. Became type 2 diabetic and had non alcoholic fatty liver disease. So yes, fruit will give you fatty liver disease. It did to me anyway.

      Once you understand that glycemic load, fat soluble vitamins and saturated fat content are the most important factors to consider for health, then a plant based diet becomes much more beneficial to work with. Most people fail on it because they’re clueless about nutrition

    When I increase carbohydrates, and it makes me gain weight. It also trashes my GI tract, whether high carb or low carb fruits and veggies, (I don’t eat grains or legumes) which didn’t resolve until going back to low carb ketovore.
    The more I hear, the more it seems that every person is different and needs to experiment and eat what keeps you happy and healthy. My labs have been “normal”, except ldl cholesterol, and after a year of carnivore eating I feel better, think better, and sleep better at 61 than the last four decades.

      I agree with you. Increasing carbs makes me voracious for more. Not a good feeling. With no carbs I feel released of addiction. Just as some can drink in moderation and others can’t, perhaps it’s the same for sugar.

      Age has a lot to do with it. Up until past age 50 I could live on fruits, veg and starches and be fit and healthy. No problems. I would not touch any of those now. Paul getting away with it now means little to me.

      Thats because not only does the Brain get addicted to sugar via carbs, it's that our Liver gets overloaded from excessive carbs and that leads to Fatty Liver, inflammation and Then here comes Insulin Resistance and Diabetes because of the malfunction of the liver.

    Sugar addiction ist real for some people and it helped me so much become ketovore for almost a year, so I could find other ways to deal with my feeling then eat a lot of chocolate. Now I am able too eat sometimes carbs (potatoes, honey) without binge eating. But I have to watch my feelings. Somedays it is easier to be strict carnivore.

    Not many people workout for hours and then relax the rest of the day. Most people are using this diet to fix mental or physical health issues. I think that is something he should mention more. Reducing inflammation from food, extra weight or stress as much as possible is most important for people starting this diet. Sugar and carbs doesn’t help because most people don’t properly limit these, eat a lot of junk along with it, and lack enough activity in the day. Nothing wrong with a few pieces of fruit every now and then, but it’s just not necessary every single day.

    I appreciate Paul’s ability to be honest abt how such a low carb diet wasn’t working for him. That would be extremely difficult after writing an entire book about a diet that suggests that they’re non-essential. I’m somebody who cannot function long term without carbs, which reflected in my labs and day-to-day life (lowered t3, extremely high cholesterol, fatigue, inability to gain muscle, loss of cycle, hair loss, etc.) It’s a legit thing for some of us…if not all- esp women who still cycle. Carbs actually aid in adequate hormone production for women during certain times of the cycle, I’ve read. I didn’t want to believe it for a long time- def a state of cognitive dissonance. I really appreciate Paul Saladino for being real, honest, & willing to take the heat from the Carnivore community. People are so willing to bandwagon and turn on people (cancel)…I’m thinking that the whole “different stokes for different folks” def applies. Not every person’s body functions the same. To believe that nobody does better with carbs, imo is ignorant. Let’s say perhaps, some do and some don’t.
    Also, Lilly, it’s so cool that you’re willing to bring on ppl who are not an exact regurgitation of your own values/beliefs. That’s such a lost art, and I really appreciate how open-minded and loving you are towards ppl. You also convey info in a non-dogmatic/fear-monger-free way. That’s pretty dang needed- esp in the nutrition space. Keep it up 👍 👌💕

      I'm 63 5'10 170 and have been lifting weights for years. I started eating more meat and dropped most carbs 6 months ago and lost 35 pounds. I still eat some white rice everyday with my chicken. I eat some Bushes baked beans with my hamburger at night . Breakfast is eggs and some bacon and coffee with honey. I do treat myself with a few Peanut butter cups on the weekend as my weekly treat . I have gained back any weight except maybe more muscle mass due to hitting a couple of body parts that I wasn't pushing. But I will never go back to eating breads, cereals, pies ,cakes,cookies, Ben and Jerry's and other high carb foods. I also add nonfat dry milk to my coffee.

      I love Paul Saladino. It’s incredibly hard for people to admit when either they were wrong or something isn’t working for them. A lot of people say because he changed he’s untrustworthy and I believe the opposite. He’s more trustworthy because he did the honest thing for himself regardless of the backlash. It’s stupid to keep doing the same thing even if it doesn’t work for you.

      @@drbills1236 this is an easy one. No different than why some people tolerate brassica plants and other don’t. Even though we are all human we obviously have genetic differences. On top of that let’s say one person has developed an autoimmune disorder and another person has not. The person with the autoimmune disorder may not tolerate many foods at all due to chronic inflammation and histamine issues while someone who is healthy may tolerate most foods. Our gut health, and certain disease can dictate what is a healthy diet for that individual. We are not all the same. There’s a lot of diversity in humans that you don’t see in other animals. I don’t know if people are just being super close minded or what but it is not so black and white. There’s a lot of nuance.

    Yay ! The way I eat is what you are talking about doc ! Not all "carbs" are created equal ! Grains are break down into many sugars whereas simple fruit sugars are so bioavailable and satisfying to me and help me feel alive without feeling tired, whereas if I eat processed carbs or grains I want to sleep !     When I was eating only meat and fat, I had bad hyperglycemic reactions. Once I started eating 1.3 pounds of lean meat a day and unlimited organic fruit, all my blood sugar issues went away. I feel great! This diet is so easy to stick to! Over the years, it was soul-crushing to watch videos from Carnivore influencers claiming that a fatty ribeye won't cause diabetes. I would just like to stand on my soap box and say, "YES. IT. DOES!!!!" Thanks for supporting Paul Saladino's message.

    Curios what he thinks about people who have cancer, and if they should be eating carbs and sugar? I switched to carnivore after the cancer I had metasisized to my lungs. I know that eating carnivore helped me significantly and now I'm No Evidence of Disease. I followed Professor Thomas Seyfreid who uses carnivore/keto for cancer.

      All the fruit in our supermarkets today are modified from their original forms which didn't have much sugar in them. Apples for crab apples, watermelons were big as your fist and virtually on the edible, carrots were made from a poisonous root, Brassica oleracea plant is a toxic plant that THEY made cabbage, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, kale and a few others. Oranges, apples, peaches, avocados, grapefruits, pineapples, papayas, mangoes, etc, etc, are not found in the wild. Most all have been modified to become what they are today full of sugar! It is rare to ever find sugary fruits with such a high sugar content as today's manipulated hybrid fruits are. So everything in our supermarkets you see you won't find in the wild, think about it. In the past there was vast wilderness and grasslands grasslands where billions of Buffalo, elk, dear, Antelope and other game everywhere. The population was much lower also which the herds could sustain. So much has changed since then and they've created ways to feed people without the animals!

      Lily, concerning your dandruff. Pls don't think this is me telling you what to do, just thoughtful brainstorming and trying to think outside the box to see if there could be something we've all missed
      I've starting to notice after doing Carnivore for about 3 years now that one of the biggest underlying problems with me and maybe some of us is actually hydration. Out of all the diets, Carnivore helps me stay hydrated more for a couple of reasons. Its low carb (i've noticed like you, that eating carbs drys my skin, there's a technical reason for this, but it gets complex), it's low fiber (fiber in you're gut draws a lot of water), and its lower salt (depends if you add salt or not. I notice when i have beef jerky, even organic healthy kinds with no sugar, it drys my skin, probably due to its high salt).
      So generally, with whatever water intake I normally get, it seems like I stay more hydrated on Carnivore. That being said, even on Carnivore i would have days where i wouldn't feel my best until i drank more water. I have experimented with my water intake and I definitely feel better the more i consume but sadly it makes you pee more. It seems like the body likes to or only can, slowly absorb the water we drink. So I try and space it out as evenly as possible. I notice my hair can become way more visibly hydrated, and surprisingly this can happen quickly for me. Also, my dry skin on my fingers slowly goes away. When i was very strict and didn't cheat, i eventually noticed i got a point where I didn't need as much water and subsequently peed less often
      We are all human and require the same things, but from our different life choices, we need to replenish our bodies differently with what we consume. It seems in my case, being active a lot (constant sweating), and eating lots of salt and carbs growing up got me to a breaking point of dehydration. More water might not be the answer for all, but I always encourage safe experimentation, especially if your having some sort of skin issue. Thanks for the wonderful video today and all the work you do! You are amazing!

      I'm strict carnivore Lill (beef and egg yolks, blue cheese as garnish, small pieces of raw liver as I'm cooking) and I've been checking my temperature lately and I'm always 36°C (96.8F). I'm gonna be very interested in your video friend but to be honest, I'm a little hesitatant to eat carbs because of how great I feel all the time (not to mention I'm naturally 7% body fat all the time with zero effort so my abs look great lol) so I'm going to be especially interested in what you have to say about it and your recommendations.       I agree with Dr Saladino on a lot but this is where I have the biggest push back with him. If you are saying you are doing better low carb, then who is to say "no you're wrong, you need to eat more carbs". I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it! He kept telling me to have more carbs and I was like so someone who has perfect blood work, fantastic sleep, great weight to height ratio, can put on muscle, has lots of energy, and feels amazing needs to change what they are doing? I understand he has his own personal experience that showed him one thing but we don't all have the same experience. Thanks for sharing!

    My body temp is the best it’s ever been. I’m 49. I’ve literally been freezing my whole life. I’ve always been thin & athletic. Since trying carnivore for the last 9 months, I’m never cold anymore, and my hot flashes stopped completely. My body temp is even and regulated all the time. No more night sweats. Just comfortable all day and night.

    Sorry, can't listen to Saladino anymore. Remember his training is in psychiatry don't let the "Dr." Prefix mislead you. He is advocating how HE does on a now HIGH carb diet - extremely active life etc...!Shame on you Paul, "you do you" but stop confusing the majority of people. A lot of fast talking, rattling of this and that as "fact." But I guess you get more "clicks." Imo he needs to stick to his field of study. I would never seek him out for an accurate understanding of how I should be managing carbs in my diet.😮

    in Ayurveda, we don't mix honey and yogurt-can cause skin issues like dandruff :) Also, it's important to eat local and in season according to Ayurveda. Fascinating interview! I'm living in a hot climate with lots of local fruit so I think I'll try adding some to see how I feel. 3 months in to carnivore but haven't lost much weight-put on muscle and I know there is healing going on because I am checking Ayurvedic markers like the tongue, the pulses, my teeth are stronger, lots of good stuff. I am having trouble sleeping at times and I have a history of thyroid issues so I'll see what happens. I lost weight in the past on keto quite easily but nothing much so far on carnivore. Thanks Lillie! You are a good interviewer!

Also, I want to have a talk about Ayurveda classifying meat into 'tamas' I get it, the first 20 min after a nice meaty meal you get tired but that is only due to your body borrowing energy to digest all the good stuff. What is your idea on it?

It's the carbs with the meat-that combination -a burger with a bun is deadly-even a dog knows better than to eat the bun-I saw that recently in Mexico (the dog ate the burger with cheese and bacon and left the bun). If you eat a carnivore diet, there is no fatigue after a meal. If meat is so bad then why does the Charaka Samhita say that almost all illness can be cured by meat broth? I have a lot of questions too and I'm currently reviewing my understanding of Ayurveda from the original texts, looking to confirm an Ayurvedic basis for all the healing that is happening with people in the carnivore community. Thanks for your comment and I'd like to hear any info you find out too. But seriously, try eating red meat only and see how you feel afterwards. Chew well if you are not used to it or choose ground beef which is easier to digest if you are not used to meat. I was surprised too-no bloating and perfect elimination per Ayurveda (after the initial cleaning out of the intestinal tract of all the built up fibre which can be a period of a couple of weeks of diarrhea). If there is ample animal fat and beef-there are no digestive issues. So why isn't every Ayurvedic practitioner/doctor prescribing this diet? I don't have an answer for that yet. If someone has eaten a high oxalate diet for years, you might have to do a modified version to avoid oxalate dumping. That's one caveat for going full carnivore. Anyway, hope this was helpful. I am planning on doing a video about Ayurveda and the Carnivore diet once I have done enough research.

      @@SpiritHawk I see a lot of ayurveda practitioners so called 'satvic' diet practitioners impose a 95% vegan diet and recommend green salads and leaf smoothies, eating raw veggies, nut milks, it's absolutely catastrophic for the gut and mind, they demonize meat and say how overwhelmed they feel when they hear about meat. They also say cholesterol is bad. I literally laughed out loud when hearing it like an evil maniac belittling them.
      They say we don't need that much protein and we get enough protein from plants.. none of the herbivores directly depend on the plants for protein, rather they depend on the bacteria present in their digestive system for protein. If I was given time with these 'satvic' practitioners, I will absolutely destroy them.
      I even spent time in figuring out about ancient Indian diet, especially the people and heroes of our epics. None of them were vegetarians, even the seers, saints, and the legendary 7 rishis ate beef too.
      Vegetarianism came about in the 11th century to north India and 15th century to south India.
      I am a Hindu and I say 'right now' Hinduism is the worst religion ever, people in this religion wrongly demonize meat and even avoid beef. I know my culture is not like this, but my people are way too much ignorant. If I ever had the popularity and power of those 'satvic' influencers, I would literally change the destiny of this country.

    Lillie, forgot to say on my other comment, in Dr. Saladino's videos on his channel, he never says to eat the amount of fruit or honey that he does. He always tells people to eat them based on the level of your activity. I've added in 1 to 2 tbsp of honey at night, which also helps me sleep and my blood sugar is lower now than it was doing a whole year of Ketovore. So, of course, not everyone is going to be doing 9 tbsp of honey. Dr Saladino even said in one of his videos that he has a calculator on his website to figure out the number of carbs you need based on your level of activity. Again, great video and I'm so glad you had him as a guest!

The only thing I've kept eliminated... is the wheat. That is what was causing my severe osteoarthritis pain. If I ever do cheat with wheat, the pain comes right back. I feel normal again with energy, nothing extreme either way is the best... at least for me. Good luck!🤗

    Try starting with beef and high fat and then note your improvements, if any. Add back dairy, fruit, and select carbier food until you note the onset of negative consequences. Everybody is different.
    The problem with Dr Saladino’s position is that he found what works for him and then issues a general prescription for everyone. I would have thought he learned his lesson after prescribing carnivore for everyone and then doing a 180.

      Yep. I've been carnivore for two and a half years. I occasionally try fruit and unfortunately it's not for me. I've also tried low carb/low anti-nutrient vegetables. I tolerate those infrequently, but if I try and have them every day I get a return of symptoms. So at least for now it's full carnivore for me.

    People who follow quantum biology will argue that Paul Saladino can thrive with more carbs and fruit because of where he lives. Being in Costa Rica you are closer to the equator and those foods are solar barcoded to those specific geo-coordinates so our bodies can tolerate it. But if you're living in a different latitude where fruits don't grow in the season that you're in then there is a circadian mismatch, which is why eating a banana in Canada is a bad idea during winter. Plus, Paul Saladino is in the ocean most days so he's grounding himself and is not under artificial blue light and within non-native EMF radiation from devices, this would explains his carb tolerance. It really depends on your current metabolic state, if you follow circadian/circannual principles and where you are living in the world, i.e., how close are you to the equator, and if living a lifestyle that promotes mitochondrial health.

      Wow, that was so interesting to read! Thank you. I was wondering for a long time already if the certain foods that grow in the certain areas are for the certain people that live there, and of course to the certain times. It was just a vague idea in my mind that this extreme change in supply and availability of every food in this modern globalist world has just messed us up because maybe someone from western Europe is just not supposed to eat tropical fruit in January. I never knew that there's actually a kind of science that studies this. I personally just base it on the fact that God created all these things and humans and so there must be a reason why there are entirely different foods in Germany than, let's say, in the Philippines (picking this example because I was astonished when I saw what weird and different everyday fruit they have 😆). This is really interesting and would make perfect sense to me. It also explains why we all have so vastly different experiences and there's no one size fits all. God bless!

      That's what I think is exactly the same and you hit the nail right in the head. I'm from Costa Rica. I don't know if, what I'm about to say could be the confirmation of what you are affirming. When I lived in Costa Rica I was very lean, I had a lot of energy and I ate everything and anything. I never gain weight. I was very active walking to church very, very long distances. I didn't have a car so I took the public bus everywhere as well but I was always 165lb (65kg) I believed I could be wrong in the math. I there. I was never fat. Fast forward I moved to the USA and still the first 2 years I was in shape not fat. After two years I got married and I gained fat. Not because of the marriage lifestyle. I believe my mitocondria was altered by moving from my ancestors land where my mitocondria was born. I read a book from an Spanish author and experts and mitocondria, he said in that book that when you eat fruits you must eat the ones that grow in the same area where the sun shines and eat them seasonal, because the sun transmits information as it does to the ground transferring electrons to the soil and land and we absorb those when we are grounding. The book also talks about the migrations of a person migrating from one area of the planet to another. The author says that if a white person a Nordic one migrates to the Ecuador, a tropical place that person will experience a big improvement in his life. Is not the same if a black African person moves from Africa or a tropical person moves to the northern area of the planet that will actually degrade his life. The author also talks about a Chinese person that was living in some places in the world I don't remember where and this person was expecting health issues, this person decided to move to where his ancestors were and he started seeing health improvements. I believe Paul moved to an area that is beneficial for him, since he in a different podcast said that his ancestors were from a tropical area in Europe some places I don't remember I just remembered are the closest tropical area. So most likely he moved to a place that was beneficial for his mitocondria. The book talks about how your mitocondria knows where you at and if the fruit your eating is seasonal or if is foreign to the region you are.

      That is super interesting!! When I was 19, I was used to eating whatever I wanted, and however much I wanted and never gaining any weight, but that same year I moved to Mexico for a semester in college, and I quickly put on 15 pounds! 😂 It was probably due to all of the corn tortillas and Carlos Quintos that I was eating, but I figure it also had something to do with the fact that I was eating foods my body wasn’t used to.
      When I moved back to Texas, I slowly started losing the weight, then stalled, and it wasn’t until I did about 40 minutes daily of Pilates for two weeks that I was able to fit into the same pair of jeans I wore before I left.
      Anyway, these are some interesting theories! I have been doing carnivore for over six months, and my energy is less than when I was eating lots of carbs, so I am going to add in the fruit (seasonal for Texas) and honey!

    Here is the thing. Before giving up sugar, I thought it was impossible.
    After I stopped eating sugar, I have stopped having crashes in the mid afternoon. Good.
    Then I stopped eating processed food. Life is better after that.
    Now I have stopped eating carb, life is good. I don't have low blood sugar or anything.
    It is almost like we don't need to eat carb to sustain our blood glucose and to maintain our general health.
    Maybe, just maybe we have been lied to by the medical establishment all these years?

    This is an interesting video. I think the main problem is Paul's perspective. At one point you asked him who could be keto at least temporarily, but I don't think he answered that question directly. He also said he works out 4 hours a day. Young healthy professional athletes can eat fruit no problem. You do not have to worry about Olympic athletes or NFL players developing diabetes from apples or even bread. People searching for diets are already fat, probably have taken some steps towards diabetes, are already insulin resistant, have some disease or are on their way to disease, have some damage or fat in their liver, and are sedentary or have low activity. These people can benefit from reducing sugar. If you have no damage or no risk factors and you are young, healthy, and active; a reasonable amount of fruit will not cause diabetes. But once you have damage and you cannot be active enough to use up the most efficient fuel, you need another plan. Paul sees how fruit acts in his body working out all the time. If he were 60, obese, and sedentary, he would see the benefits of keto. Also, nobody knows exactly what causes insulin resistance. We have indications of what influences it, but we don't know.

    My question would be, if you’re eating that many carbs, you will not be in ketosis. So, does Dr Saladino think being in ketosis is good or not? If yes, then don’t eat carbs. If no then eat carbs. I have not found a good answer to this question.

    All true! The body uses glucose (sugar for fuel) regardless of which micronutrient you choose because without glucose you pass out and die if you don't refuel. When a person faints they are given honey and it's instant relief. Too much buildup in the blood causes health problems but correct, sugar/carbohydrates isn't a killer. The body wants it, it needs it. A malfunctioning metabolic system is what kills. When everything is working right you can eat all you want and whatever you want and not gain a single pound. It's actually hard to gain weight or have any bad lab results when the body functions correctly. I believe all the chemicals,hormones, preservatives and insecticides humanity is bombarded with everyday causes metabolic malfunction. It has nothing to do with what our ancestors ate because our ancestors didn't inject their animals with hormones to make them grow bigger.

    Interestingly in my own case going carnivore raised my body temperature, increased it to the normal body temperature, that is 36 degrees Celsius. My body temperature was always 35.5 degrees before, and when it actually reached the normal 36 degrees, I already had the symptoms of fever/high temperature. My hands and feet been always cold and in general I've always been a cold person. Not any more. I feel fantastic, not cold any more and I am full of energy. I eat a piece of fruit here and there, from our garden, not from supermarkets. Maybe like one apple a week, or one handful of berries a week. (Fronzen only now, as it is winter now.)
    My died prior did not include fast food and junk, it was home grown, local, seasonal, organic, homemade only. And I felt sluggish, tired, depressed, I was gaining weight, I did not feel like exercising at all, hence once I started exercisimg I did not manage to keep on doing it for an extended period of time. Since I am on carnivore diet, I feel the need to move my body, so I exercise daily - and I actually enjoy the exercise. I don't feel tired after, I can do lots of daily activities. Prior to carnivore if I had some exercise I surely sat on the sofa for the rest of the day, as much as it was possible, because I was knackered.
    When I eat a bit more fruit, my body says now no thank you. My stomach is simply not happy. We are beekeepers and I did not even have a tiny lick of honey since I started carnivore. I know had bad is honey for me, I just have a little lick, then I end up licking a couple of tablespoons full and maybe even several times a day. And it goes like that day after day...
    At the moment I would surely not manage to eat more fruit, honey and other carbs. When I was a child, during summer holiday we always stayed at the lakes, for 2-3 months, of course I needed to eat more, even more carbs did not make me fat, you simply burn unreal amount of calories when you are in the water. But I do not manage to be in water and exercise 3 hours a day, I wish I could, but that is not reality for most people. If I would be a single person, with no husband, no kid, no pets, no farm animals, no gardening jobs, but living in a flat on my own, sure, I would have more time to exercise in nature - still not in water, it is far too cold most of the time in Scotland and most days are even rainy. Being outside even all day, doing chores plus exercising is not burning as much energy, as doing water sports and being in water. Extra carb would probably not be an issue at all, doing all the water sports, every single day. But that is not how most people spend their days. So I can't really find the recommended higher amount of carbs benefitial at all.

      The higher body temps means your mitochondria are LESS damaged which is good because that's what the plant foods do as they are high in deuterium.

    I have cancer (well, surgery got most, and hopefully radiation got the rest) I keep my carbs low as best I can. I'm not excited about adding more than 20g of carbs in my diet, cancer loves glucose. I'm aware that the liver will create the glucose it needs. Thoughts?

      I 100% agree. As per my own research, cancer feeds off of sugar. I would absolutely be limiting my sugar intake if I had cancer. Something most people don't know is there is actually more glucose in raw verses cooked meats. Which is probably why more carnivore tend to eat their steaks on the rarer side verses well done. Regardless, your body will be able to make the amount of glucose it needs without eating sugar.

I become metabolically diverse, but for now, hopefully, 70% fats, 25% protein and the rest unavoidable carbs is my plan. crossing my fingers. Cancer sucks.

    Im 40, healthier then most 6 year olds.
    Was morbidly obese all my life. Tried 5 days strict carnivore and had insane sugar cravings, on day 6. I added fruit and bingo! Best diet of my life, i call it the bear diet, meat only with fruit only. Berries, pineapple are my go to. I eat fruit with every single meal and wow ifeel fantastic. I MUST add i avoid pesticides at all cost so its either organic or greenhouse grown and yummmmm.

    I like his concern about unnatural foods like seed oils. I've heard arguments against these "frankenfoods" for many years.
    I'm finding that I still want occasional carbs, but not much, and not every day. I still do my best to stay in ketosis.
    As long as I'm not craving carbs, I figure I'm doing well.

    Very disappointed, sugar does cause diabetes. Paul’s health issues came about cause he ate massive amounts of organ meat. Probably not eating enough red meat for all the exercising and activities he does.

    I seriously think there are a couple of deltas that should be pointed to. People that work out processing Carbs. People that are young and not already overweight can manage carbs differently. I also will say that Sugar addiction and Carb "rush" can be very real to many people at least in their mind and long term adoption to them over years. I respect Paul and his position, but I fear he is seeing what works for him, and not thinking about how this could affect others that have not lived in his body and life. I agree with you, as I have the salt drinks and potassium supplements for the reasons you mentioned. Happy you are questioning his views. We are not a one size fits all health.

    Also, when I experimented last summer and added in a lot of carbohydrates coming from papayas, watermelon, oranges etc. I noticed after about a month my near sightedness getting really bad, eyesight was so blurry. I cut out the fruit and within 3 days it regulated and became clear again. I was so surprised and a little sad as I wanted to continue to eat fruits. I do consume a little bit of carbs coming from vegetables every other day or few days, very , very small amounts. My eyesight dones well with this BUT when I stay strict carnivore with high fat my eyesight is so sharp and clear! It’s one of my gages I rely on to monitor my carbohydrate consumption.

      you may try to manage the order of food intake to prevent big glucose spikes. i generally feel better with some carbs in my diet, but i noticed similar effects with sugar and eyesight, so i try to lessen the spikes by consuming ACV or veggies first. glucose goddess wrote a book about that, she doesn't really leave out any sweets and only mentions fasting on half a page, so that might be an option

    To people who are lost ,
    Try this approach :
    Find where on altitude you are living most of the Time and adjust your diet … the more sun the more fruit the better .
    The equator habitants need fruit to deal with hot climate.
    That’s why we have abundance of fruit during the hot season , everywhere.
    When cold comes , switch to strict carni with some carbs from dairy and Little bread … pasta … 80 to 20 ratio
    So for those who experience summer and winter … adjust your lifestyle accordingly. Winter ( carni ) and summer ( fruit based )

    would love to hear Paul Saladino vs Richard Johnson and Rubert Lustig. Richard's book "Nature Wants Us to Be Fat" says his research shows that 8 grams of fructose sets off a cascade of visceral fat storage and leptin resistance and eventually giving them insulin resistance etc. Excess fructose is hibernation food and not part of our natural diet. I wish Paul would just admit that he is addicted to sugar so he goes to great lengths to justify his position relying on studies of very low participants, etc.

      Agree. I think Robert Lustig’s work points to a keto/carnivore diet being optimal for human nutrition, even if he doesn’t necessarily state that position himself. The way fructose breaks down causes damage in the body similar to alcohol. I have yet to see someone who advocates for carbs in the diet address that.

If you are an active person like saladino, the fructose would readily be available in the bloodstream and wouldn't really go to the liver and instead be burned off. The simple solution is to lacto-ferment fruits, because the sugars would be turned into lactic acid. Plus if you are on a low carb diet (animal based), fruits basically being the only carbs you eat, the liver stores would be depleted frequently anyway if the person is fat adapted. Also, carnivore is great in combination with carb cycling but alone long term causes electrolyte depletion (along with any zero/low carb diet). And gluconeogenesis helps for people with extremely low carb, but prolonged can do things like increase triglyceride due to insulin suppression. Lack of insulin release is problematic because it has secondary functions besides regulating blood sugar.

      Ken Berry doesn't go to the gym or anything he just lives his daily life. According to his book, he doesn't do standard exercise. I'm still reading through it but I don't think he does any hard workouts.

    Thank you both very much for this information, 61 years old man from Finland, I was too in carnivore for health issues, painful osteoporosis. After 1 1/2 I had same problems as Paul said he had. I took his advice and it works, thank you Paul.

      Ones lifestyle plays a lot into what one gets away with eating . If you're active all day ,you can eat more carbs . But if you aren't you need to eat less carbs .

    I'm going to disagree with the statement about carbs not causing insulin resistance, unless that was a statement around semantics. If you eating carbs and popping your insulin at every meal or grazing all day keeping insulin high it will give you insulin resistance. So to me its like saying gasoline doesn't cause fires (which is correct), but it sure helps burn a house down faster if you are spraying it on the fire.

    I was strict carnivore for a year, didn't cheat at all, I have always suffered with irregular heartbeats since the age of 18. (I'm 44 now) There were massive benefits in that year eating 0 carb, like huge weight loss but i was also getting cramping, brain fog and my irregular heart beat although initially getting better got much worse a few weeks ago, after getting a full blood count and other tests my folate levels were completely depleted and i was diagnosed with folate deficiency anemia. I have now started adding electrolyte rich fruits, honey and some veg into my diet and feel so much better for it. I don't think strict carnivore is good for us long term and I think the Carnivore diet has become a bit of a "cult" and Social Media movement where everyone is trying to outdo the other to get more likes which has a dangerous effect on people like me who are desperate to lose weight or feel better and see this as a last resort.

    I tell my patients that I don't want them to have my diet (carnivore) but to find the right diet for them. It takes patience to go on this journey of discovery. Sometimes it is difficult to start feeling better, and we have to continue to experiment and change things up. There is no one diet... we are on a spectrum. However, we need to prioritize animal based foods and then take it from there.

    Has Dr. Saladino ever considered the reason he was having problems on Carnivore was he was eating too much liver/organs and overloading his system with the vitamins and nutrients found there?

      In many ways we are all in "unchartered hypothesis waters." He may know more than the rest of us; but I don't think knows more than the other keto-carnivore scientists who are skeptical of this move.
      Personally, I'm all for self experimentation. I myself and many others here I'd imagine are doing such and seeing results. I'd like to see Saladino try going back to carnivore and stay easy on the organs and report the results.

    I tried carnivore for a year in an attempt to reduce inflammation and auto immune issues. I had to introduce some carbs back into my diet because my appetite deminished too far to support an active lifestyle with a slim body build. I also experienced some electrolyte issues too. So there is something to what Paul is saying, but im currently happy on around 100g of carbs a day, avoiding all grains and seed oils.

    l live in Washington State in a northern climate. In October when our apple tree produces an abundance. I wrap LOTS of apples individually in paper and keep them in our cold shed and along with my carnivore diet I eat one of those apples each day. I find just that one apple does not trigger my tendency to be addicted to carbs. The apples last well into the spring. I also freeze our own handpicked blackberries, strawberries and blueberries and cherries, so a handful of those each day will give me that bit of fruit that lasts until the new summer fruit are ripening.

    Greetings from New Zealand. I really wanted to dislike this video, but a lot of what he said did make sense in relation to my own experience. I tried strict carnivore, but I didn't do that well on it. It wasn't until I added veg ('fruit' veg like zucchini) and berries back into my diet that the issues I was having cleared up - some of them within a couple hours of eating veg/fruit again.
    Like so many others, I am coming to realize that there is such a wide spectrum of diet that works for our species, with each person needing to find what works best for them in their circumstances, that there is no one single diet that works for everyone. The huge diversity within our species, the vast array of adaptions that have enabled us to survive and thrive in so many diverse environments and under so many diverse conditions, is a level of diversity that makes us unique, with most other species evolving to specific environments, conditions, and food sources. So it is no wonder there is such a wide spectrum of dietary possibilities for us.

      @beastbombshell3589 Vegans are interesting. They have the lowest rates of diabetes. Their diet is typically low fat and high carb. Clearly their high carb diet does not harm them. Insulin does not harm them.

    He is absolutely right. I did keto for 6 months, I do a lot of bike riding and high intensity sprints. Keto caused muscle loss, testosterone dropped to 160, heart palpitations, my bike riding suffered, crappy mood and weight gain. Keto is not for all.

    I’m not sure what to say. So many studies and doctors with the opposite view… And my own experience is the opposite of this. My temperature has increased almost 2 degrees since going carnivore. I’m on day 104 today. My thyroid levels are better, actually all bloodwork is improved. LDL is slightly higher but still in normal range and I’m not convinced high LDL is bad. I’m glad he’s found what works for him, but I don’t think his experience or a environment is typical for most people with metabolic issues like those of us finding relief from carnivore after decades of suffering while eating “healthy” and still being sick. 😟🤷‍♀️

    I've been carnivore for 6 months. I am going to try and put back a bit of fruit in my diet.
    I have bad stomach problems and skin problems at times.
    Also, pain in my joints, etc, is bad. I've lost 60 pounds. I'm feeling better but looking for help from foods. I'm still having cramps, too. My muscles are not doing great. It's hard to eat enough for me.

      Hi there. Cramps and joint pain may be a lack of potassium, magnesium and salts. Dr Berg has a great electrolyte mixture I have used for a few years and works great. I do have some carbs most days but low and the odd day higher. I exercise regular but not hard.

    It’s all fascinating and I think the answer is to keep an open mind and experiment with yourself!! I’ve been using a high fat carnivore to stay in therapeutic ketosis fighting cancer. Now that I had my tumor removed through surgery, I’m working on raising protein to feel stronger as I have a very active job… but still try to stay in therapeutic ketosis. I have that abstainer and not moderator physiology but I would LOVE to get past that someday. I think what Paul says about this is interesting… My biggest takeaway is that switching things up on your body might increase metabolic flexibility, increase metabolism and promote resiliency and health in our systems. Low carb (Dr. Berg-style- high veggie) improved sooo much for me. I had been vegan 25 years and vegetarian a total of 32 years so I know I needed that animal fat and protein!! Hashimotos reversed, weight lost, depression gone🙏🏽… but I adopted Paleomedicina’s PKD diet for my cancer and that definitely stabilized it over 8 months of measuring before surgery. I also did a lot of intermittent and prolonged fasting. Lots of 3-5 day fasts, one 14 day fast and one 23 day fast. So who knows but we all should spend time paying attention to what seems to help our individual bodies and do that!! Adjusting as needed!

    I found that changing your diet every now and then is the best thing you can do, for example 1 week high protein diet, another week high fat, another week high carb, when you are changing the sources your body mostly works on, what happens is that the body kinda gets shocked and you get a huge burst of energy that last for a few days.
