Hi Rich, I'm looking at the associate to driver program for myself. I'm planning on applying for that next year. In the meantime, I'm studying various material for trucking since I'm brand new to it all. What would you recommend I study for the program since I've never stepped foot in a truck before? It's been a dream of mine to truck since 2018 and I feel Walmart has given me the best opportunity to go for it.
@@adam2O Hi Adam, without a doubt my #1 recommendation would be to go to a website called TruckingTruth and become a member. It's free and it's designed to help new drivers learn what they need to come into this field. In particular, it will be most useful to you for helping you study for the CDL permit. There's a course on the site called the High Road Training Program, which is a study guide for the permit test, and it is unequivocally the best way to study, in my opinion. It targets your strengths and weaknesses by way of its algorithm. I got my start there too, and aced all of my permit tests. Sorry if I sound like a salesman here lol, but I truly believe it's the best place to start. The site also has an online forum, where you can ask questions and discuss trucking topics with other members, experienced or not. I am a moderator there, and have been a member for like 8 years or more under the name Turtle. Beyond that, I'd say to watch my pre-trip video over and over, and study the Walmart pre-trip guide. Links to both are in the description. Everything else will be gravy. Walmart will teach you whatever else you need to know when you get to the a2d program. In the meantime, I'm here to answer any questions as well. Good luck, and don't forget me when it comes time to fill out that app! 😁 www.truckingtruth.com/
So I’m looking to apply after 10 years at Prime. What’s the difference between OTR/Regional and Truck Driver jobs? On the Walmart job listings the descriptions are all the same for all 3. Looking to get into Raymond or Lewiston. Should I just look for “regional” to do what you’re doing? I didn’t know Walmart did “OTR”.
@@PilotAndTruckerNick All 3 are essentially the same thing, with the same duties. There may be subtle differences, depending on the DC you'll be running out of and the schedules they have available at the time of the listing. The OTR isn't really the same OTR that you are used to. It's regional, but you stay in your truck all week, similar to OTR. I'm not really sure why they put up different titles for these jobs. Perhaps there are differences I'm not aware of. Again, each DC is different. Your best bet is to apply, and then speak to the recruiter about the specifics of the job you're applying to. Just apply and get your foot in the door before it closes, then you could always bid on different jobs or schedules after you're in.
@@TruckinwithSookie I went right into a 5/2-5/3 program, and remained in it for my first two years. I didn't even try for my own truck, so I'm not sure how long it would've taken. It will really depend on your DC, and schedule availability.
@@rjv419 I'll be honest. I didn't mention city drivers in the video because I'm not completely sure of those details, and I don't want to put out inaccurate info. Yes, I assume they fall under the "local" category, but are perhaps more specialized and targeted to high volume or high traffic city stores and backhaul vendors. Not really sure.

Where do you work out of?
Do you need a non restricted CDL to drive for Walmart? Or are they ok with having it since all their sleeper trucks are automatics?
