That last case is why I don't hang around certain people. I'm not trying to get caught up in being in the wrong place at the wrong time. My friends aren't bad or stupid. Just socio-politicallly naive, and tend to hang around environments I'm not comfortable being around. Harmless partying and hanging out is cool, but can be a death sentence for black and brown people.

I totally agree with what your saying, and being with the wrong people puts you in greater danger of wrong place wrong time. Yet that poor woman whose husband killed his ex-wife ........ No one would have expected that to happen, in her shoes. How many new oartners go with their bloke to collect his kids from his ex? They never expect that! If I had been her Iwould have been in shock, and also fear that he could turn around and do the same to me. How can they prosecute her with no solid evidence. It's madness!!

I did time with these women. It breaks my heart they are stuck there forever. Many of the women in this video are mentors helping other women to not return. I have been out for almost 7 years. These women and others taught me so much. They deserve another chance.

I really enjoyed this video. I am a former inmate and I, too, have "aged out of crime." But the REAL reason that these women remain behind bars? Because this nation's corrections system is a FOR PROFIT, MONEY MAKING BUSINESS. The longer an inmate remains 'inside,' the more money the state makes -- it's as simple as that. It's shameful. These people are basically just forgotten by our society. And it's just the tip of the iceberg...

    • @wanderingfree149

Rehabilitate is much better if needed and help to get life on right path and help them out so they have a chance to adapt in a worthy life again. Cheaper too , probably! Not everyone is sociopaths and psychopaths, and people mature very often and regret . This is so heartbreaking.

By the law, you did it if you were there. These women described their actions on those days and the made a series of poor decisions. A couple of them seem to minimize the severity of their choices. It’s sad because the commutation board looks to see if you take full responsibility for your actions. They need to do that to have a chance to get out.
In England, life means 15 years then you’re eligible for release unless they decide not to release you yet. Like a parole board but without the part where they check on you after release.
The only people who get life without parole are the people who commit multiple murders, and other similarly serious murders. I think their system would work better.

I've been to prison. I'm in England. I'm a mother, a grandmother, a wife, daughter, a sister, cousin, neice, auntie, Godmother, friend, neighbour, colleague, community member. I'm many things. I'm also very sorry for the hurt and consequences of my actions that resulted in my being, rightly sent to prison. Yes there were reasons, maybe some mitigation..... But at the end of the day I know and knew then ,right from wrong. Yes I've been a victim, I've gone through many really bad things. Things, some have said explain and excuse my behaviour and then my crime but...... My veiw is yep, may explain ,if you want to excuse me, but l knew from the get go what I was doing was not going to help or erase my past, I knew when I offended it was wrong. So no,l've no excuse. I've served my sentence, it was horrible, it was frightening and you I hope will never experience it.( for me more frightening at first than a crime committed against me though I won't expand on this here)
The adage if you don't want to do the time (or you can't handle the consequences) don't do the crime. Don't make excuses, make as best you can amends.
Here and now I apologise to my community and for those closer and closest to me for my actions and the Crime I committed against you all. Drugs ruin lives, families, communities and ruin yourself.

I worked at the women’s prison in Delaware when the episode of “Women Behind Bars” was filmed. She was my “inmate worker” for years and when she was asked to do that show I warned her that she has no control over how the episode will make her look. I got permission from the Warden to bring her episode on a dvd I created when it aired and I remember Diane just sobbing by the end of it.

Yes they are a money pit. Where dues the money go? Staff pay, facility maintenance, fuel, meals, medical, programing costs, funeral costs, vehicles.

I've been incarcerated at Muncy PA. In the 90s for 4yrs with these women.. I've seen and know these women.. The way that this prison is set up actually helps these women become a better them.. Even though these women have life.. They are not a threat even though they were charged and convicted.. People like these women that have done so much time need a second chance.. Some were in the wrong place wrong time if it wasn't for the one that actually killed they would of not killed.. But i know Naomi case she actually stabbed the man with a knife but i also say it was something that i know she wouldn't do again.. She is a role model in that prison and a beautiful humble person that is shown through her voice when she sings.. I hope they do give these women lifers a chance especially these.. They are ready..

I got slapped with two felonies accessory after the fact and grand theft. I was also charged as an adult. Now I'm 46 and in college. I have two daughters 1 is an RN and the other is a married mom of my grand daughter. I still have to put on my application that I have been arrested even though it was 30 years ago.
