- It seems like an exciting new era for the electric series, with new cars that may create action on track that's even more electric. If you are in the dark though as to what to expect from the ninth season of Formula E, I have created a guide that (I hope) will tell you everything you need to know about the upcoming season.

Here’s to a new season!🏁
I'm very much looking forward to seeing what the new season brings.
your channel is obscenely underrated
That's very kind of you to say. I'm glad that you rate this channel so highly.
I'm so looking forward to this season
I'm very much looking forward to this season as well. Loads of new tracks and a car which already in the first practice of Mexico City looks much faster than the previous generation.
The McLaren-Nissan partnership makes perfect sense if you know the history behind their road car engines.
I'm looking forward to it, I've been on and off with FE, trying to keep up with it and get into it, and I feel the new Gen 3 cars give a great opportunity
I think these new Gen3 cars will be crucial to Formula E's future. I believe with the speed of these new cars (which look visibly quicker than the Gen2) it will encourage new fans to watch.
Removing Fanboost is such a huge plus imo
Personally, I'd have to agree.
Honestly, I'm still worried about the absence of rear brake. Hopefully the cars stays safe.
I'd be surprised if we had any issues during the season. I can see why on the surface though it may cause concern for some.
For gen 2 they barely used the mechanical brakes in race because of the regen so yeah, seems like they just ditched the rears to save weight.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks That would make a lot of sense. Hasn't seemed to have had a negative impact yet.
@@tydyeracinggaming4742 The issue is the lack of a backup system for when the software-driven regen system fails. Testing had some crashes because of that, Mitch Evans hit the Daniel Abt 2020 crashsite in Mexico after the FP1 session because of an issue and these cars really need a fail-save for whenever software goes down so they can use hardware to get the drivers unhurt out of these situations. I believe this will make rear brakes return to give them a way to stop. Nothing is confirmed though, but I think they want to sort this issue out before the Diriyah round.
Not related to the video, but you are seriously one of my fav new channels, can’t wait to see you get bigger!
Thank you for the compliment. All I can say is that I'll do my best to keep up those high standards. I still hope to improve my quality of videos over the course of this year, along with some real life content as well.
After looking at the free practice session, the cars do look fast! Can't wait for the racing
I was surprised by how much faster they seemed on camera compared to the Gen2.
I'm not as updated with Formula E, I was not expecting the series to go to PIR!
I was surprised to see that track feature on the schedule as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what it'll race like.
Can't wait until the Portland race, I've got no idea how they'll pull that one off or where they'll put the new braking zones, but I'm guessing that'll be one of the tracks with pit stops.
Will be cool to see what the track will look like for that event. No pit stops will be used for this season as it turns out.
Honestly, I'm glad Fan Boost is gone. It kinda felt like a Mario Kart thing.
Attack Mode on the other hand is nice. It basically fulfills the same purpose as pit stops in other racing series. You sacrifice time and potentially track position by going to a slower part of the track to gain a temporary speed advantage over other cars.
I quite like Attack Mode as well. It's another strategic element to the race, along with how you use the extra power you gain to your advantage.
Other thing about fanboost is that it was always the same drivers getting it, if I remember correctly Vandoorne (or more aptly Fandoorne) got fanboost in every single race he participated in and after the first few races it was just boring to watch him get it all the time
Formula E marketing leader: We need a way to make our kitchen-appliance-on-wheels races better. What do we do?
Assistant 1: real tracks?
Assistant 2: kitchen appliances that look more like real cars?
Unpaid intern: Take the rear brakes off. For more crashes.
I’m brazilian and I’m going to the São Paulo E-Prix in a few days… It will be my first ever race on the grandstands!! Just can’t wait to see those new cars personally. As a brazilian, I’m a huge Di Grassi fan since the early days of F-E.
Keep up with the great work dude!! Your channel became one of my favourites here on UA-cam, appreciating a lot your content :)
Glad you're enjoying the videos and thanks for the high praise, it always helps boost motivation. Hope you enjoy the race there by the way!
Awesome video. Glad to see you grow even more!
Glad you enjoyed the video. The support I'm getting is incredible. However, it's greatly appreciated.
I ABSOLUTELY FREAKING LOVE the mini cooper safety car
That is a darn cool safety car I agree!
I'm really rooting for this series to come forward in leaps and bounds, and from what little I've seen of the season so far it's doing just that. It has so much potential, and compared to everything else it's so young.
Excited for the new season but RIP Techeetah!
Shame Techeetah aren't racing. However, I like the new teams that have come in.
3:03 Ummm, an update to that.... the plan got shelved for season 10.
Have set laps races 👍 and finally racing on a road course (Portland) 👍 and finally getting rid off fan boost … 🙏🏻👍👍👍👍👍👍👍!
I think all of these are plus points. I will say that the Portland course might be altered in some way, albeit it's not been confirmed yet.
You know, I would like to watch Formula E but our coverage in the United States is pure crap when they show FE on a cable channel many people don't have or even know they have.
At least air the full races on UA-cam with ads. I wouldn't mind the ads mostly due to using ad blocker on my PC.
Brock, how is it that NASCAR hasn’t put you on the payroll to do their documentaries. Great stuff. I especially appreciate that throughout the first 3 parts, the Earnhardt story kinda took a backseat (with the exception of cleverly executed foreshadowing moments) but, episode 4 had to be so Earnhardt centric. It really does pay homage to him while also captures the enormity of what his death meant to the sport from a political and technical standpoint
I imagine you've perhaps commented on the wrong video. I guess you meant to comment on Brock Beard's video. His content does look brilliant. I really should get time to watch his stuff.
Great video ♥️
Glad you enjoyed the video.
I forgot to say in the video, however, in the description and this comment is a link to how you can watch Formula E wherever you're from. www.fiaformulae.com/en/ways-to-watch
I hope they dint change gen 3 cars for awhile. They look amazing AF
Coming back to this after the half-way point and it has aged fairly well all things considered. I have a few observations:
ABT Cupra are a bit mistifying. They're easily the worst team despite having a basically identical car to Mahindra and a good lineup, except when it's raining in which case they somehow have the best quali pace (and Mahindra doesn't). Also considering their choice of a Van Der Linde as a reserve driver, I can't help but think of them as the DTM team.
DS Penske have a fairly dissapointing car for having one of the strongest Formula E lineups ever. However Vergne somehow sneaking his way into a title challenge but not Vandoorne is not at all what I expected, and reaffirms my belief that Vergne (as opposed to Di Grassi or Buemi) is the Formula E goat.
Lotterer seems to be noticeably underperforming, and his Andretti campaign is really disappointing. I hate to say it as a fan of the guy but I kinda want to see him give up on Formula E so Andretti can strengthen their lineup. I think if they kept Askew on for another season he would be performing better.
This is looking like the most entertaining Formula E season yet, and at this point I'm more excited for Formula E races than any other series. It's amazing how it is able to have a clear pecking order and engineering arm's race like F1, but still be unpredictable like Indycar.
Comprise, not compromise... Well, maybe compromise, depending on your persepctive
what happened to the race in brooklyn
I could be wrong but I believe it has something to do with a new cruise terminal being built at the track, which would've impacted the amount of grandstands that could've been put up.
i honestly quite like the looks of this car. don't like some of the new rules though, like the extended laps during caution periods.
I prefer this car to the Gen2. I thought the Gen2 was a bit too wacky, whilst this one looks toned down, albeit not so much that it's lost it's identity.
For me the only thing left that ruins formula e for me now is the tracks . I just would love to see these machines going 100% on a proper track even if it means a shorter race . The equivalent to the F1 sprint races would be nice .
I don't necessarily mind the mostly street track formula they're on. However, I would quite like to see this series try out a race on a "normal" race track, like a Silverstone, Hockenheim etc. I know they've done Valencia in a points paying round, however the track was fairly altered from it's normal layout.
What? Why would you want these vaccuum cleaners on real racing tracks? They're far too wide and don't have nearly enough 90° turns. How tf are they supposed to crash into each other every lap then, like they normally do? That's pretty much all Formula E can offer in regards to excitement, and you want to get rid of it? 😂
Never thought it would last more than 2-3 seasons….tried to watch a race once. Turned it off after 15 minutes and never looked again. Zero interest
Tell me that Nissan doesn’t look like a Ferrari F1 car
I can see where you're coming from.
The Formula E slice of pizza ummmmmm yummy 👍
*Misprounces mispronounce* lmao
Great video :)
Glad you enjoyed the video, mispronunciations aside.
so so So f-ing happy that fanboost is gone. FE was never going to get any respect with that gimmick still around.
I never really got into the fan boost. Sure, it was cool to see a different way of fan interaction. However, it just felt like the wrong way to go about it in my opinion.
@@tydyeracinggaming4742 i just thought it was totaly unfair. Theres a reason they called it VanBoost. A race driver shoupd not be required to have a multimillon follower base to get a chance at extra power. I think a push to pass style system wpuld work in FE though. Maybe even P2P for the whole season so you can decide what races or when in the season you need to use it. For now though Attack Mode is enough and its unique.
about time they got rid of the stupid fanboost. until these cars can remotely compete with other top level open wheel series ill never give a rip about it. just a bunch of vacuum cleaners buzzing around and drivers that couldn't make it elsewhere.
The batteries don't develop horsepower. The power output from the batteries go to the electrical engine which develop a mechanical power output which drives the wheels. That mechanical power can be expressed in horsepower not the power output from the batteries.
You might think those are equal but before the power from the batteries gets to the engine it goes through other electronical components which create losses. Also the engine has internal losses which means that the power from the batteries isn't equal to the power that drives the wheels.
That car is ugly I must admit, I'd be worried about Formula E in future only because F1 is determined to go that route too making it obsolete
I don't mind it. Looks like a futuristic battery powered RC toy car, which is pretty close to what they actually are. Except being way more powerful than ever before.
Also, I think Formula E is unique enough to be different from F1. Although most of the times they try to be too unique. Maybe once the electric powered engines overpower the hybrid engines, and Formula E is no longer safe enough for less than FIA grade 1 tracks, the leagues will overlap enough to become one.
