Great video pls more tech stuff like oc undervolt , optimisation , game optimisation and more hope you grow bigger i like you and youre videos
They make adapters that let you plug standard ATX power supplies into the proprietary connectors on these motherboards
It’ll be a 24 to 8 pin or 24 to 6 pin, depending on which model Optiplex you have
PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS, This is a bad idea, as there is no cutout for it and would need to basically either hack it by cutting the metal out to fit a atx power supply, or try and bypass it with a sfx power supply and also DELL DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO DO THIS and DOES NOT turn off the power supply when you turn off the computer and keeps the power supply always spinning and on while the components are off and also only fixes if you unplug/switch off the power supply, please make sure you have experience as misinformation is wild now. Proof? Search up DLM tech garage and "My computer is haunted!!" and his 3050 would not shut off, you might be wondering, different model, etc IT APPLYS TO BOTH 40 and 50, My advice is to skimp and go for a 1650 or super as they are not as dangerous or use only a 6 pin.
Oh gee why does aliexpress not mention that with these cables
Isn't this incredibly risky? I'm not entirely sure, but doesn't the SATA connection provide only around 30 watts each? That might not be sufficient power for the GPU when running at full capacity, and there's a high risk of it catching fire over time. I wouldn't sell that if I was you.
up to 54 watts and why he wouldn't sell it he makes profit?
And yeah, 240w PSU powering 180w RTX3060 and 65w i7 6700, a race between psu firework and melting sata cable
I'm surprised more people aren't calling this guy out for using a SATA adapter on a 3060
@@teckdeck619people have done worse with PCs and they've turned out fine. It's not something I would do personally by any means, but it's likely not something that'll cause catastrophic failure like you make it out to sound. Hell, I've even seen OEM system makers do this with GPUs and expansion cards. Again, I'm not saying this is a smart idea, it's dumb as hell, but it's "likely" not a fire risk. At least he's not using an Apevia power supply like Zach's Tech Turf or Techsource does. That's a real fire hazard lmao.
I think they can provide 50 watts. If it was a 4060 that uses less tdp I could see this being really good like the toasty bros did. Granted more expensive but it only had a tdp of 130w for the entire system
That Optiplex is "ready to go" alright. Go up in flames, with that SATA adapter! 😂
That computer is gonna have asthma in no time from that for sure lmao
ikr.. how do u even pair rtx 3060 w a 240 watt psu.. rtx 3060 lit draws 175 watt and obv the remaining watt is not enough for the remaining parts 💀
@@itiswhatitis71 exactly. for a build like this I'd go with a low profile card/upgrade the power supply.
i have this same optiplex, however the gpu i will be using will be a gtx 1650 super, it's 6 pin, tdp is 100 watts max, would a sata to 6-pin be fine in my situation?
@johndank2209 yes.. look it up online many people did that do you are good
Killer deal on the 3060. It was a good build overall.
bro your such an inspiration. Im starting my own optiplex build too.
Buy something like an Rx 6400 which needs no external power because a sata to 8 pin adapter is very risky.
What if I upgrade the PSU to 850ws will it make a difference for everything can get enough power it needs
@@jorgegallegos6151that’s enough for 95 percent of builds
I have built an opitplex kinda like this one, however i just upgraded the psu to 500w, make sure the psu is SFX form factor as standard ATX won't fit in that tiny space, also have a 24 pin to 8 pin motherboard adaptor and depending the psu you buy; you might want to get a cpu 8-pin extender as due to having the GPU in that tiny space you'll have to route the cable cleverly around stuff.
that's the power set up you'll want to have on these things if you don't want a psu firecracker.
Hey by chance could u say what power supply you got. And was it able to fit in the case.
SFX and not ATX.
Thanks for the tip man. I'll keep that in mind.
Elijah just got finished watching all the flipping pc until i can buying a house and can i say that is an amazing series carry on the good work
I actually got the same rig 8 months ago w/out a hdd for $120+shipping. Not bad for an i7 6700 rig w/ 16gb of ddr4. I have a 1660ti and 512gb crucial p3 ssd in mine and use it as a capture pc. Enables me to use the nvenc encoder on the 1660ti so I can output a 1440p stream. My main rig is a 5800x3d and 6800xt. Tried using the H.264/265 encoders on the 6800xt to put out a 1440p but the 6000 series card's encoders are ass. This little dell is allowing me to put out a buttery smooth 1440p 13500kbps stream thanks to the 1660ti's nvenc encoder.
Can I have core i5 7th gen with rtx 2060
@@wissamalhalabi6108 I wouldn't buy anything less than a 10th gen at this point in basically 2024. Windows 11 doesn't even support 7th gen and there's for better, more modern budget options than selling yourself short on a 7 year old cpu.
Stream like twitch stream or podcasts?
@@thejimmichanga2913 did you know you can buy keys and update your windows
Will Y\you do another video about this computer by adding a cpu cooler or a power supply. I love to watch videos like this.
I bought two of these optiplex’s just before you made this video! Got mine for $59 each and they came with radeon r7 450’s play Fortnite at 100fps stock!

Not bad… I bought five for 150$… like 30 a piece very easy flips installing GPU’s in them
I paid $300 for an i7 8700k, GTX 1060 6GB Turbo, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, Corsair H100i 240mm AIO cooler, and a Kediers C570 open air case with 7 RGB fans. The motherboard is an MSI Z370-A PRO. The PC came with no PSU or storage but I had those components from a previous build.
Awesome stuff, as always. nice deal on the 3060
dell optiplexes warm my heart
add some high end gpus and it will warm your room too
Killer deal on the 3060 literally 🔥🔥
Glad you didn’t blow up!!
Nice to show sometimes you have errors. Love that you keep it real man!
That 3060 is way to spicy to be running on sata power
It's not 3060 it's 360

I’ve been looking at 9020 and 7050 it seemed liked the 7050 had better specs? So the higher the number doesn’t matter?
Heya! Is it possible to add a few extra fans to help with the cooling?
I have a optiplex 7020 mt would a 2060 or 3050 work ?
Why not an 8th or 9th gen Dell Optiplex or Inspiron, I have seen them for $100-120. I also saw an i7 9700 Dell Optiplex for $140 with 8gb of ram and a 512gb SSD.
Plz send me the link to it
link?
Bro can you send the link I kinda need it
where link?
@@TheRealAstro777 they are on ebay bro
im tryna get rx580 8gb for this build, do you upgrade the psu or no?? can it actually run?
Say Elijah, would you try the new 3050 6 gigs variant for a build like this? 70 W from PCIe slot alone seems safer for builds like this.
what is the max amount of memory can you put in it?
Interesting. I wouldn't think the Sata to 8 pin adapter would be sufficient. That opens up a lot of options.
@Elijahs Lab Will it still run good on the default parts? meaning will it run nearly as good without the PSU adapter, GPU, and the SSD you put in? thinking about buying this for my first gaming pc cuz im broke.
I acquired a Dell Optiplex with the I9 9900 from my work . Would it be better to get one with the I7 or would they be close ?
What brand SATA to PCIE adapter did you order? I have ordered one from Amazon and when connected to the PC it doesn't power on even with the GPU not being connected once i remove the SATA to PCIE adapter it powers on fine.
Don't forget the front air flow mod for this generation of Optiplex
I would recommend a Lenovo P520 for about $10 more after tax/ship. You have way more options with GPUs since it has a 900w 80+ Gold psu with 2*8pin pcie power. It’s cpu is usually the 6 core Xeon w-2135, which from my experience is a bit worse than the ryzen 5 3600. If the 16gb of included ram isn’t enough, it is very simple to upgrade, as there are 8 ram slots and ecc is dirt cheap.
That p520 its killer deal bro.
Are the i7 8700 old optiplex worth it? Or still overpriced for now
love the vids
Another banger of a video
I just bought a optiplex 7040 core I7 6700 512gb ssd 16gb ddr4 ram what is the best cheapest card I should buy??
Is there a better GPU that can be paired with it? Even if it has to sit outside the chasey
Great deal on fhe 3060. I'm waiting for optilexes with 8th gen cpus to come down in price as the 2 extea cores should eliminate most of the cpu bottleneck.
He should have upgraded the psu lmao, and sata provides aroujd 24 watts so the gpu was bottlenecking lmao
@@carabondish Higher wattage power supplies are hard to come by, however sata cable can provide up to 54 watts of power and the pcie slot gives up to 75 watts, so the GPU would be able to get up to 183 watts. The 3060 is very efficient so only has a TDP of 170 watts. Its still a janky way to do it but it would work, and we're definitely seeing a CPU bottleneck.
bro I just got a optiplex 9020 and im thinking abt puttung in a gtx 1060 in there any other budget suggestions?
عندي نفس هذا الكمبيوتر ولكن الباور غير كافي حتى لgtx1650
Would a 190 watt power supply be enough for a i5 8500 and a rx 570
I remember I needed a cheap desktop computer and got an OptiPlex with a 3470 about 5 years ago. I then realized I can finally play Shenmue 3(awful game) with a cheap low-profile GPU, so I got a GTX1050. Needless to say, I was addicted to fps coming from an Xbox all my life. Multiple platforms/CPUs/GPUs later, I still miss the Optiplex lol.
Love when sellers "Pack Properly" cheers
You didnt checked about the PSU. Isnt that risky with a rtx 3060 and a i7 6700 on this psu? that catching very fire.
I'm working on a similar build but with a nice case and I just bought the motherboard for $15. CPU for $65 and GT 1030 GPU for $50. All in $193. What do you think I can sell for? I'm hoping at least $250 but gonna try for $400
I have the same exact PC!!!
I'm upgrading it to 2 SSDS 1TB HDD and 16GB DDR3L RAM
What's the exact model
The one in the video is a Optiplex 7040 Tower
The PC I have is a 3040 tower they look the exact same and the inside is the same except the M.2 @@XR-EDITS755
are there any 300 or 400w psus for the mt that can fit inside the case??
Is it steble their psu just 240w and use with rtx3060 ?
“If i blow up i love u guys” damn
Where do i get a flash drive with install media onnit
Ima just get a Optiplex mini tower and a 1050 ti lp as my first gaming pc and if that doesn’t go well I have a ps5 and I still have a pc if it’s the GPU that doesn’t work
If u have a Dell optiplex 3010 sff
Here are some upgrades
1.cpu upgrade u can upgrade to a i53400 which is faster then the i3 3240
2. Add a gpu, some Dell optiplex come with a low profile gpu and I recommend u to upgrade it to a gtx 1060ti low profile
3. Easiest upgrade is ram just get two sticks of 8 gb ram ddr3
how is it holding up the psu with the 3060?
any cheaper alternatives for 3060
Keep up the amazing work
what kind of power supply upgrade can i get for the lowest price? plz help anyone this is my first pc im making
ty very much for this video 🫶🏻
My old dell 7010 pc just barely runs dayz, you should try it.
desk chair monitor?
Wouldnt recommended using sata to power a gpu, spend extra money to get an sfx power supply to replace the 240w power supply
I have an Optiplex 7040 with an i5 that I bought for like $150. It came with a 512GB NVMe SSD and an i5 6500. I threw in an RX 6400, 32GB of RAM and an extra 4TB HDD and it's pretty awesome! I wouldn't use it as my main PC, but for work or even for a student that wants to play e-sports titles it's perfect for not that much money. The only bad side is that the parts are proprietary and the upgrade path kinda sucks, so keep that in mind before investing money into an Optiplex.
Which RX 6400 did you use? Me personally I slapped on a Saphire pulse RX 6400
Would a rx 6600 be better with the i5 6400
Do you have the stock psu? 180w.
I have the Dell OptiPlex 7060. It's similar to your PC. My PC doesn't have the 8 pin adapter too. Can you share the 8pin adapter so I can order one? Thanks!
Nevermind, I just saw the link. Thank you.
i must ask... were you running the 3060 on the 240 watt psu?
That's what I thought upgrade the PSU...
Great Video!
Thank you
it bugs me whenever he opens the case the the front thing on
I saw some comments about the fire risk so what do you do to prevent that? Because I want to get a pc like this but i dont want to risk the fire hazard
Don’t use a SATA to PCIe adapter. They make adapters that let you plug standard ATX power supplies into the proprietary connectors on these motherboards. It’ll be a 24 to 8 or 24 to 6 pin adapter depending on the model of Optiplex you’re trying to build up, so do your research before purchasing
A standard ATX power supply will have something these proprietary Dell units don’t have: a PCIe power cable for a GPU
Ideally you’ll want to use a modular power supply

nice build im douing same thing but in Germany im thinking making a youtube channel how i flip pcs
sata gets 54w and the pcie slot gives 75w to the gpu but the rtx 3060 needs 170w... how?
how well does it run cities skyline 2 though?
bro thats good
bro that been illegal since 1860s my guy 4;19
Are you sure the power supply isnt the bottleneck?
I have one I spent $200 for everything and it’s insane it pairs up with a $700 pre built not as pretty but I’d rather game then have something just sitting
Would an i7 8700 be a better fit for the 3060?
yes.
I have an i7 8700k. Would the 3060 be a good GPU to pair with it? I'm assuming there's not much difference between the 8700 and 8700k.
the 3060 would be a good fit. Dont forget to leave out the rx 5700 xt and gtx 1080 ti as budget used options@@BREEZYM6015
my pc has a i7 6700k its a hp elite desk g2 sff and it has 32gb ram once i stop using it if i upgrade i willl case swap it and have it as a home server
yo what happenned to the Flipping gaming PC videos?
I have a Optiplex 9020 build with a i7-4790, RX 580 2048SP, 16gb of 1600 Mhz DDR3 ram, and a 1tb hard drive.. Got it for about $300 and its very cursed because the power button doesn't work so I have to put it in sleep mode every night and if I want to turn it off I have to unplug it from the wall or I wont beable to turn it back on.. Wish I did it this way instead
I was testing with an HD 5570 graphics card that has a consumption very much lower than that and it did not give me video, do you think it is because of the adapter since it is not the same, it is only one SATA port to 6 pin GPU. I also tried on several pcie express x16 ports
I'm afraid to buy the 1660 or 1650 Super and that they won't give me an image, which would be useless if it doesn't work and I would waste money and time.
specifications of the DELL that I have DELL OPTIPLEX 7040 MT 32 GB ram hdd 2tb, nvme 1tb the HD5570 was tested on another computer and gave an image
I just scored a 3050 MT for $80, I’m just worried my ASUS DUAL GTX 1060 won’t fit, and it only has 256gb of storage - all the way full with just 3 games. I plan on selling it later for $400 to $600, wish me luck! It has rgb too :)
elijah i love you bro but this is a fire hazard, a new psu is 100% needed for a 3060
so how do i get around a bios locked system, considering those optiplex are from company workhorses
Unplug the computer, press and hold the power button for about 15 to 20 seconds to make sure all the capacitors are discharged, then open it up, and locate the password reset jumper on the motherboard (it’ll be labeled PSWD).
Remove the jumper pin, then plug the computer back in and power it up. The password should be cleared. Then shut everything down and unplug it again and put the jumper pin back on.
Put the side panel back on and you’re good to go
i just got a dell optiplex 390 sff, upgraded bios, got a gt 1070 and i5 2500, 8gb ram, and every game ive tried is 50-60fps, couldnt ask for anything more for around 220 bucks

depends on the motherboard, if you have a standard atx motherboard you should be fine

It's a it's a big difference from i5 gen 6 to i7 gen 6 in this optiplex
I wouldnt trust this build longterm with that PSU. That would be the first thing I'd try and upgrade.
