Spencer - you are a magician. I’ve really enjoyed this truck build. It’s now in perfect shape for you to drive it up to MN and take down some of my trees and do a couple dozen projects around the house!
And a toolbox with hand tools. I personally don't like going anywhere without some hand tools, hammer, wrench, pliers, screw drivers, tape measure. Ya never know! That's just me.
Nice build! I've matched the whole series and got me pretty inspired to do my own tree work flat bed. Mine's gonna hold a small dump box! Those storage boxes are perfect man! Fun to watch you built it
@@metaspencer sure man I'll do my best to document my build so I can share it but I am not very technology inclined... in fact I dont even have a smartphone. How high off the ground is the top of your deck? Has your truck been lifted at all?
@@DjeehBear My truck isn't lifted but I did add air bags ... the deck is pretty high but I haven't measured it ... you could definitely build it a bit lower
POW! Now that would really be an attention grabber and probably cause a few accidents. :) and it brings up the question: what color IS that trailer? Green? Neon? Who knows
Great setup now you just need a air compressor hidden under flatbed with a hose reel above so you can air up tires on pickup or trailer wherever you go
You're so right about the compressor. I have a small one that rides in back between the boxes, but storing it underneath would be WAY better. I'll see how it works out
Looks functional. The only thing I might have considered doing differently would have been to hang the boxes over each side by 3" just so a sheet of plywood or drywall would fit between them.
That amount of room would be awesome in the middle. Understood. For me I needed room in the middle there for the wagon I haul logs with, so it's a good compromise for my needs. Thanks for checking it out man!
Damn, my 2000 dodge ram 2500 5.9L Cummins flat bed is set up damn near the same way. I have a property maintenance company that mainly specializes in demolition, debris removal, I also do a lot of general repair work. So its very advantageous to have all my tools with me. I am usually towing a 7x14 foot dump trailer and a out 50% of the time either a compact tractor or a mini excavator.
Nice looking Rig... ...I really enjoyed the series on the truck building...but I'm happy that we are back to my favorite part.... 🎄 Work..😁😁😁😁....hope there are vids coming...
Silly how much that looks like my two work trucks! Always nice to make something you can use on a regular basis. Hope you’re still finding interesting things to take up your time. Adam from Minnesota.
Dude I cant lie, that's a sick work truck setup. I know everyone has different schedules but I wish I had the time to do a build out like this on my work truck haha. I remeber a year or two ago I watched your vid on your buildout of your chevy too. Good stuff man 👍 your flatbed plans are sweet too btw, thanks for putting that out there
Good to hear, man! It's funny: when I got this "new" truck I thought it had some potential, but ya never know how things are gonna work out. It's been really great with that flatbed on there, and actually running pretty well too. Big thanks!
Truck build came out real nice. ( Cleanser commercial put a smile on my face, BTW. ) Maybe it's time for some mud flaps or some thing to go around the wheels to make it complete?
I've heard the mud flaps suggestion from a few guys so you're probably right. I have a set so it's just a question of hanging them. Plus, less splatter is always better. Thanks man!
Dialed. The only thing I would have done different is add 3" of width to each side of the bed so you can carry sheets of plywood between the boxes. That's just me. You have a trailer for that. A nice one
just stumbled across this. i built my flatbed similar to this. i went a much cheaper route than this though lol. i placed a 4x8 sheet of OSB on the middle of the frame and then placed the toolboxes next to that. My only issue is that i didnt plan on the tire clearance and they rub on just about every bump
Work truck keeps getting better! Thx for the great content and btw what brand jacket is that? I’m talking about the brown one you’re wearing during the tree job? Thx
It's a Red Kap jacket, but I just looked and can't seem to find it on Amazon (that's where I got it). I've beat the heck out of the thing and it just keeps on hanging together
Those larger holes up top, would a nut, washer and bolt been a good sealer? Or some type of patch panel? Lots of room for activities in those boxes! Any update on the FICM? still running ruff?
A couple of nuts and a washer with some sealant would totally do the trick on those larger holes -- I was just wanting to go another route. I'm guessing it'll evolve over time -- just ordered some handles to slap on the back, for instance. As for the FICM I'm less worried about it than I was as it's been running really good. When I bought it the truck may have been sitting for a long time, so the new oil and a few tanks of gas seem to have done wonders for it, along with better heat off the new glow plugs. But I've gotta get to work on the leaking exhaust manifold
I keep going back and forth on that, but so far I'm thinking I'll leave it as is and see how things go. Since I always have a trailer on I'm not sure if I'll need one. :) I like flatbeds with mini tailgates, so may go that way
@@metaspencer I did that with mine, best thing I did. Got rid of the worry that something MIGHT slide off the back! Used a rough sawn 2x6 with the "ruff" knocked down slightly with a 60 grit disc on a grinder. The grain was beautiful, almost to nice to use for that. Added a couple handles since it had some weight to it. Made some 'Z' brackets out of 1/4" x 2" flat stock and bolted to the back of the toolboxes up about 1/2 way of the 6" board. Worked perfectly.
Oh yeah, gotta keep that Chevy forever ... or ya know, until it catches fire. It's kinda set up as my fencing truck right now with tree stuff moved over to the tree truck. Easier that way for me since I've got a lot of different gear for the different projects :)
@@metaspencer I've seen guys use trailer fenders and adapt them to fit under the bed, they look really nice when done correctly, which I'm sure you would do!!!

Haha, sounds like a fun trip and a lot less drive time than the friend of mine who wants me to come out to Seattle for the same. Big thanks man!
Looks good. The only thing that looked like it was missing was a first aid kit. :)
Just added one up front but probably need a second :)
And a toolbox with hand tools. I personally don't like going anywhere without some hand tools, hammer, wrench, pliers, screw drivers, tape measure. Ya never know! That's just me.

@DjeehBear just calculate the max travel point for your tires and add some wiggle room
I love your truck! This build series has been awesome. Only thing left to do is paint the cab of the truck the same color as the trailer!😄

First class custom work on the truck bed. You couldn't have asked for better tool placement. May be a buffer to keep those boxes clean and shinny.
Buffing some polish on may be the way to go -- thanks for that thought!

Nothing wrong with used boxes, cheaper and they got that character built right into them. Mine came with carpet to keep stuff from rolling around.
