Some people correctly pointed out that I should have a first aid kit in my truck and I felt like a total dummy because i kept procrastinating buying one and I definitely should have had one before making this video. Just wanted to comment here and say that I HAVE purchased a first aid kit and it’s in the truck now. My wife also suggested I put a fire extinguisher in there too and I’ll do that as well. 👍🏼

As a paramedic, you may have some useful suggestions for tree guys in terms of what first aide materials to have on hand. That would actually make a pretty good video idea. What would you recommend? Tree work involves risks of blunt force trauma and deep cuts among other things. What would you recommend to have in a tree guy's truck?

    • @MedicGeorge
      @MedicGeorge Рік тому +1

@@happycamper6352 I’m sure that would be a great video. Front line first aid starts with proper safety gear and well maintained equipment . I’m not a fan of everyone having a tourniquet that takes a bit of training but a good quick clot bandage can be used without a lot if training other than the instructions on the box or packet. They can be carried easily on your person. Stay away from the kits containing the nasal and oral airway devices they need proper training. An assortment of bandages small to large is good along with some eye wash system. You can also add a SAM splint which is a very soft aluminum roll which can stabilize a broken arm . Most industrial kits will handle a large part of nick, cuts , scrapes,Add a basic first aid course you should be set . Benadryl is also important as well, for insect stings .A packet or 2 of electrolyte powders can make a huge difference . Not a detailed list here but hopefully a start.

Very nice. I highly suggest bolting the TS box to the truck bed. Someone watching this video is salivating to steal the entire box. Also, hitting a bump or pot hole will cause the box to bounce (I know this from experience). Lastly, I would run a cable with lock(s) through the off-hand handles and/or kick-back levers for added security.

  • @GraeMatterz

Nice rig setup. I do have a suggestion: Mats in the compartments, especially in the compartment where you keep your boots. As things slide around they will get scuffed on the metal surfaces (made worse if there's debris on those surfaces) and the mats will reduce that.

Don’t know if you will read this but I appreciate your video. I’m 57 been doing tree work my whole life, always been self employed with big trucks and chippers, my wife and I raised 4 children doing so. But now I feel as though I’m at a turning point in life where I would like to downsize and maybe get rid of the big equipment and just do climbing (the part I still enjoy) and set myself up basically the way you just explained. So I appreciate the insight you gave me. Thank you.

I have a buddy that's a logger, and his boss has switched over to 1 tons with gas motors for all his crew trucks. His reasoning was that the trucks were spending less time in the garage getting worked on and therefore are costing him less money. The 392 hemi under your hood seems to be an overall really reliable engine, and I figure if my buddy's boss can run 8 of them and be content, then it must be fine.

I picked up a F-550 with a super cab with the upgraded suspension that is the same way cab n chassis with the 6.7L diesel and the dealer already installed the knaphiede contractor bed w/ladder rack which I attached a rooftop tent and a on demand water heater for when I'm not working close to home which a divided flatbed with the lockable boxes, added an additional lockable fuel transfer tank with normal fuel nozzle and changed the rear bumper to bumper built for towing pointless hook since it just had the normal drop down non tow bumper. Lastly, I mostly work alone as well so I picked a truck bed crane so I can lift up the heavier Timber without having to haul a trailer unless it's absolutely necessary. Total costs as a new truck last years model and picked up the truck for 67,000 built the lightbar rack and winch for front and rear . Much

There's nothing "cool" about diesel and/or dual wheels unless you need it for something that the gasoline engine/non-dual can't do well. If you're always towing heavy gear like a large skid steer on a heavy flatbed, then maybe diesel makes sense. Even then, your truck probably can tow a normal skid steer with competence. You should be proud that you didn't fall for the rat race trap.
Also, was that a 500 I saw? Yours? If so, it wouldn't surprise me if you only rarely use the others beside it, even though they're great saws. Although unbalanced in weight, I have found that the 500 does really well even with a 36" ES Light.
The rubber mat(s) should be required of all truck beds. They protect the deck and your knees and keep cargo in place better than one would think during normal driving conditions.
I'm so glad that's it's not just old farts like me that use cant hooks. They aren't always needed but worth a lot when you don't want to break your back or start the skid steer just to roll a log. It's so nice that the box is lifted so that you can fit long-handle tools under it. Having ladders in tree work becomes valuable when you're getting on roofs for storm damage, especially if boom lifts are busy at other jobs.
All those locks look really good; keep them good with lube. They can be a real pain in the a$$ when they get older if not lubed regularly (don't ask why I know that). Also, it wouldn't hurt to undercoat the truck from time to time, but that's the Easterner in me talking.
Pole saws are unsung heroes. Glad you have one. My telescoping 131 is a pain to carry/store; I think I like your kombi with the separate extension better.
Finally, I like the wasp/hornet spray, a few of those are always useful, but add garbage bags too for big nests. Bug spray (deet) and sun block can help on certain jobs too.
White paint is safe and cool. It statistically has the second best rate of not getting in not-at-fault collisions (second to yellow, which is why busses use yellow). It doesn't cook in the sun as much as any other color too.
Overall, I think this truck purchase/configuration was an incredibly wise decision: new so you can focus on cutting and not the truck; utility box bed to keep things organized and fast-access, non-diesel, non-dually because it would have been wasteful in multiple ways, but still stout enough that it can grow with you if/when you need it to. It looks like you're already well aware of all this though; but I wanted to extend my compliments.
If you fall for the commenters' pleas for a winch, get a receiver hitch winch with long cables. That way it can go on many trucks, and can still mount to the front if you get a front receiver hitch which would cost much less than some poser-fabulous off-road bumper. Also it can be stored clean until needed rather than being out in the elements when not in use.

First aid kits are renowned for causing more problems than they solve. In reality theres not much you can’t fix with kitchen roll and electrical tape. The tape must not restrict blood flow or touch any part if the skin due to lock jaw. It mainly comes down to pressure to stop blood flow and not moving someone with a bad back.

Thanks for the truck tour. Looks like you have it well setup. Do you have a first aid kit on the truck?
