I've only played 7th Continent at 2 players, and it works very well. Me and my friend have played through almost every Curse together. I would say it's a strong solo game at glance, but an amazing coop experience for the right people. Right now I would never wanna play it without my friend, because of all the stories we've shared.

@Alex, the simplest fix for Lizard Wizard is to just setup the game for one less player than is actually playing (eg, setup for 2 players if playing with three). Pretty much fixes the length problem instantly. :)

As someone who never played the original Black Rose Wars, I was intrigued by Rebirth by both the amount of content, as well as the solo mode. I have been wavering between regret and excitement ever since I finalized that all in pledge and was charged for it. Some times I am excited, then I realize that there is still so long to wait. The best thing is that I have started painting minis since I backed this so when it comes in I will at least have a bunch to paint. This is great especially because I am about to exhaust all the minis in may game collection.

It's a really ineresting video and I really enjoyed listening to both your reasoning. I'm actually kind of regretting some of my backs, especially The Breach from Ludus Magnus, but at the same time I'm still excited for some of the stuff. I guess I'll just have to wait and see

Man, The Breach looked so good, but Ludus just leaves too poor a taste in my mouth. It felt overpriced, and Ludus always uses the rest of the world to subsidize European VAT, which means I'm paying even more.

I regret backing… Frosthaven. I backed because I should like it, it checks all the boxes for things I like. After backing Frosthaven I bought Gloomhaven JotL, and I struggled to complete the campaign (as a primarily solo player). I keep thinking I might like it if I find people to play with, but what if I don’t? So I will likely trade or sell it once it arrives.

    • @reasonlost
      @reasonlost Рік тому

Having solo played through Gloomhaven, JOTL and Forgotten circles (yes, I mean through it all lol) I enjoyed the huge Gloomhaven experience significantly more than jotl. With 11 characters to unlock on top of the 6 starting classes I found the most fun was pairing different characters with different synergies and combos where JOTL with only 4 classes really misses the party building dynamic and felt a lot more “on rails” both in story and gameplay decisions.

Claustrophobia 1643 is a game I will keep on my shelf. I missed on getting the first edition and the prices where sky high so I was happy when the new edition was released. I believe it is one of the better 1 v Many games. My copy is well played. The rulebook has some issues and the rule rewrite from The Universal Head/Esoteric Order of Gamers helps a lot. There is also a player aid on BGG that helps streamline the game and removes rulebook lookups. It gets played at least once a year over Thanksgiving Holiday weekend as it is when my brother and I have some downtime and swap our favorite Gin and Bourbon finds over the year while we play.

There are two games on this list that I have backed. One is 7th Continent which I love! It is one of my top 10 games. The other one is Bardsung, which I don't regret backing just because the minis and the terrain are perfect for my D&D campaign.
It is interesting you say 7th Continent is complex game, one of the reasons I love it is because it's incredibly simple. Rules are 4 pages long and components are all square cards. Elegant, beautiful game.

Completely agree on Too Many Bones Splice and dice. I have all the gameplay content (minus some promo stuff) and I tried the lab & build a tyrant mode, and you are right it is just too much. They have great prebuilt bosses. I honestly think this is only for people who have completely exhausted all other content in TMB.I dont regret backing it (new bosses, dual baddies), plus the separate gearlocs and trove chest (much needed with all the content).

I played through all of the core box curses in 7th continent and some expansion (sanctuary, swamp,...) ones as well and I can say that I love the IDEA of the game much more than the game itself. That is also why I sold my all-in copy almost 2 years ago. I do feel a bit sad about it from time to time but then I remember "hunting for food" and putting ALL THE CARDS BACK INTO THE BOX and yeah... It was fun while it lasted.
Another dissapointment would be Dinosaur Island (Back from Extinction). Some reviewers raved about it being the best worked placement game and all of that and for me is like a good game at best. Also everything from RED RAVEN GAMES. I dont know what it is but I backed Ancient World 2 and added every game from them (above and below, empires of the void, near and far, empires,...) and I sold every single game from them and never looked back. Actually Empires of the Void 2 very kind of neat.

I passed on Bloodborne after not being happy with my backing of Dark Souls. I've been staying clear of games similar to that ever since. I try to get games that have unique themes/ mechanics in my collection as I am just starting to get the disposable income to get more games. Your videos have been great for informing me on to why I should or shouldn't back and more often then not I am not backing. Not because I think the game isn't good but not good for me. I have limited time and opportunity to play these big games that garner all the hype. This was a great video showing why blindly backing or backing with limited information could lead to regret or disappointment and helps pull me back from over backing on games I don't want to miss out on. FOMO is a really scary thing to deal with and I feel kickstarter while great for helping companies get the funding to bring their vision to life prays on people who are susceptible to caving under pressure from FOMO.

As a new TMB player (Base game + hoping to grab Unbreakable), i was still debating grabbing Splice and Dice: not for the funky/more complicated game modes, but solely for the extra baddies and extra ''regular'' tyrants.
Since Splice and Dice has 30 extra Baddies, and each 40 (...) in Daelore has 15, it all comes down to the extra tyrants in SaD vs the extra encounter cards in the 40s in Daelore.
Any tips from TMB veterans on which to prioritize getting?

    • @xTriforce22

I've held off on Splice & Dice as well. The only reason I want it is for the extra baddies and Tyrants as well. I will most likely pick it up as I have everything else, but will not play the BAT and NAP parts of S&D

I really enjoyed Slice and Dice. I think the build a tyrant variant is way to play a nice and quick game without setting everything up. Of course I have only played solo, it may be terrible for multiplayer.
That being said 40 days is wonderful (even just for the extra days 1-3), I also really enjoyed the campaign addon as well for when I really want to have things set up for a few days.

I have almost everything (soon after the recent KS) except SnD.
The baddies in it are challenging, but like my friend who owns it commented, it cripples the game.
The already built tyrants are also a cripple to fight.
The dual baddie are just hassle to segragate and maintain.
Besides with all content + rage of tyranny (as a way to make every tyrant more tougher). The expansion just dont serve any purpose.
Also consider getting undertow. Stanza alone is way more important than the whole SnD in my own biased opinion lols. She is so fun!

    • @nanibly
      @nanibly Рік тому

I would go for Age Of tyranny, 40 days in Dalore (?), or Undertow before buying spice and dice, if your goal is to increase the content to play. Spice and dice would be good for someone who needs more challenges with a harder baddies, and you like the idea of creating your own.
The age of tyranny turns it into a campaign, which Is something missing from the base TMB game.

Kickstarter is tricky, there is the whole FOMO and you can get sucked in by the pretty graphics and how deluxified the game is but really we don't know.....is it a fun and engaging game to play until it arrives. I have 3 kickstarters yet to arrive, I hope they turn out to be fantastic and engaging games that I really wanted.

I kind of regret getting Defense of Procyon 3. I think I ruined it for myself though. The initial presentation I saw reminded me of something like Battlelore 2E. It just isn't that. I like the modularity of the aforementioned, and this was just 4 races set up in a certain way (with some different scenarios, sure) and this one deckbuilds, this one has a dice pool, this one has a tableau...it just didn't feel riveting to me. Looks great, of course.

I think these kind of lists are important for the content creators if they want to be honest towards the viewers. So many people watch well justified beliefs and take it like ”i understand what you are saying”… this must be a good game.
So i think its good to inform if your views about the game changed afterwards even if some people possibly dont like it. After all, honesty is everything if you want to have a viewers in a long run.

I shouldn't have backed Wolfenstein Euthia or Uprising. Just since they don't get played, and Wolfenstein is such a beast to prepare with having to build miniatures.

I can’t imagine regret for backing Marvel Dice Throne. I paid more than the Kickstarter price because I wasn’t paying much attention to tabletop games back when its Kickstarter launched, and I have zero regrets. But I will say that it’s my only copy of Dice Throne, so maybe that’s what the regret is about… already having tons of Dice Throne and not needing more.

I luckily have only one KS miss, but it was by far the bigger and most expensive game I backed :(
Time of Legends: Joan of Arc
Such a mess... The rulebook was bad, the scenario book had scenarios that could not be set up (or had missing rules), outside of two or three scenarios that they demoed at conventions the balance was non existent and the strategy was terribly obvious - make a stack of death with your best units and use that for everything, there are 0 reasons to split up units over the board, they are better in offence, better in defense and ultimately with the way activations work you get the most out of your activation cubes if as many units as possible are in one spot.
Additionally it takes 30+ minutes to set up and tear down and the components really get in the way of the game - the minis don't fit on the hexes (yes the is a unit limit per hex, but when you had that many units together they would not fit) and the small minis keep falling over on their bigger bases (3 minis are on one base, but can't be glued on, since there isn't enough bases for all units in the game, so you have to "build" the units on the bases every setup).
And then there wasn't even enough dice in the game - not even for 1 player, let alone 2...

I've yet to try the 2nd Edition, but I get your comment! I've died plenty in Zombicide Invader, while Alex kept saying he never died :( Unlucky with abominations, instant kill, game lost.
On that note, Invader was my biggest regret for like a year, and then I tried the game again. And again. And again. Got hooked, played through it all, bought Black Plague and played that a lot. Close to 50 games combined with those two now :)

    • @dirks9816
      @dirks9816 Рік тому +1

I agree, in invader, the normal enemies are good to handle, but we died very often to additional abomination movements. When you draw an abomination card, you not only get a new one, all other Abominations get a free action/move. If you have 3 exits in a mission, you may very well draw 2 abomination cards in a row and that can kill even a survior that keeps its distance. Its game over then.

I regret backing Massive Darkness 2, not because it isn't a great game, but I will never again back a $500 all-in. As much as I want all of the stuff, it just isn't worth it in any way shape or form, especially if you include shipping. Unless you are buying it to paint AND you actually paint it. As soon as I got it, I sold it for full price and never looked back. OK, I looked back a little. I repurchased the base game and the MD1 upgrade kit. I don't regret that decision.

These haven't arrived yet, but would be on my regret list, unless I can sell them to get my money back or at a profit.
Etherfields Gameplay All-In - Awaken Realms just messed this one up through sloppy editing, changing the board, messing up the rulebook. This keeps me from ever backing another AR game.
Zombicide Undead or Alive - Only because right after this finished, they went and did Marvel Zombies, and I don't think I need two Zombicide games, and Marvel is probably the superior one.
El Dorado Games - Windward & Age of Atlantis - They just can't write a rulebook. Seems like they may be out of the board game business.
Everyone probably regrets backing anything from Petersen Games, Mythic Games, Grey Fox Games, Blacklist Games. Some companies...

My biggest “regret” is getting the ‘All In’ bundle for Heroes of Land, Air, and Sea. I didn’t back it, so it’s not a Kickstarter regret, I bought the everything bundle on their site afterwards. I like HoLAS well enough, but if I could, knowing what I know about it today, I would only buy the base game… Maybe the Order & Chaos expansion. I don’t like the Mercenaries (especially Cthulyte, I feel he’s super OP), the siege engines are only ok, the nomads are kind of dumb, the Pestilence expansion is gimmicky, the Pestilence mini-expansion isn’t worth it… The only thing really worth it from the bundle is the painted heroes and the neoprene mat (and, honestly, the paint jobs worth is questionable).

I regret backing Gunship, because it seemed like a great modular starfighter combat game, but was cumbersome to play and its only hit the table once. I regret backing Fairytale Games: The Battle Royal because it was a very simple card combat game, with a tacked on exploration mode, and painted on dark fairytale theme - Unplayable.
But I most regret Up Front and Whelps to Wurms, and Dungeon Dice: The Lost King because they never delivered

My biggest regret is backing multiple copies of soooo many Cmon games thinking I could pay off the copies I bought for myself. (Someone encouraged me too and backed it up with maths). Newsflash… eBay is the best place to sell in the UK and after eBay and PayPal fees, what looks like a high price point yields no profit whatsoever when you think of inflation!
I regret backing The 7th continent all-in (all in shrink about to sell). I’ve played it in a group twice and hated it! Backed The the Citadel all-inc… will be sold straight as it arrives, Dark souls, big pledge (on Facebook marketplace atm), then played it at UKGE and hated it, so never opened it.
I late backed Rum and bones all-in, all seasons, paid extra shipping and astronomical import duty and taxes and it’s never been played. Going to sell it!
Whelps to Wryms. Funded 18/7/16… still not delivered even though it might be reincarnated (games are in a warehouse in china, have been for years!)
Siege of the citadel, posthuman, kingdom rush, vengeance & expansion campaign, massive darkness, Zombicide green horde, all wasted money and selling them atm
Arcadia quest including backwards first edition, riders etc… all in, never played, never will, going to sell it as it doesn’t fit my games group style. (love Maamorra, nice neat fun dungeon explorer and a fraction of the price, keeping that… AQ will be sold).
Basius basing moulds, never had time to make them despite ambitions to paint and base, life’s too busy, will sell
Rise of tribes expansion… base game is amazing, the expansion is waaaaaay too imbalanced and therefore kills the game!
Gloomhaven (sold), frosthaven (will sell), I just don’t have time or shelf space for them! Trudvang legend (just arrived) and Malaya lands of legend will both fill that space

Bloodborne is a 6 for me. I picked it up at retail, and my problem is that the combat (outside of bosses) feels so obvious and bland. The combat almost has a Euro feel to it due to how easy it is to calculate and the fact that it's nearly deterministic. There's no hooks in the combat to keep the me interested.
Additionally, the game's difficulty arises solely from the timer. But, the timer typically isn't a problem due to how easy it is to avoid death in the game. So, it mostly comes down to how much you want to level-up your character before ending the chapter.
Last the board reset is a huge thematic disconnect. You have the boss down to 1 HP? Oh, well the timer just ticked past this spot, guess it's back to full HP. It forces players to make decisions based on the timer, rather than based on what actually moves quests and chapters forward.
It feels like a game that would suddenly be interesting as a 1 vs many. There could be a really interesting card-based combat with both players playing the card face down, and then flipping the card to see how combat plays out. That'd be much more engaging than what's currently there.
