    So I've binge watched this tutorial a first time, then a second time while trying to reproduce it step by step, then a third time and then back and forth in the video to find where was my error, because my result was not good. Few hours later, I realized I'd missed the "be sure to have the Auto Normalize checked". Then some more time to experiment the options of weight paint. At the end, I've learned a lot. Thank you for this awesome tutorial.

    Around 10 and half minutes he says to CTRL + Click to select the bones, then the screen shows SHIFT + Click. Not sure if it's a MAC thing, but on Mac, I had to CTRL + SHIFT + Click for it to work. If you're having trouble, try that.
    Great walkthrough and a serious help for the rigging and weight painting especially!

    - Professional animation quality mouth rig
    - Easy TO USE (though requires a bit of time to setup)
    - Simple/minimal character face model
    I was expecting a flapping lips animation, but was pleasantly surprised when you went all the way. Thanks, great tutorial!

    Your videos are what I have been looking for. When I started using blender I was terrified because I couldn’t model characters, navigate, make rigs, etc. I especially was terrified of lip sync but your tutorials are so in-depth and detailed even though the result is simple and stylized. Thank you.

    10:50 if anyone is having an issue with selecting the bones with ctrl, make sure Paint Mask is deselected in the top left corner. It's the little gray square with white square. Was selected by default on my computer! :o)

    If you had to make separate keyframes for the smile and the frown (I had to because a negative smile looked weird on the animal mouth I was making) Then you can simply edit the driver on the smile and change the Expression to Value*-10. That way Z axis movement will still control the smile and frown, but this will allow the smile to occur when going up and the frown should occur when going down. (Going down = moving the lips bone down on the z axis to clarify)

    MAZING tutorial.
    I wonder how it would be different for an animal-like mouth rig.
    Like a kangaroo that has a big mouth projected forward along with its nose but needs to talk.
    Would it be possible to have the same level of control?
    An animal-like face rig would be a very appreciative tutorial.

    If anyone is still having trouble with the teeth warping and deforming when moving the jaw, also make sure that the teeth mesh isn't being influenced by any other bones than the ones you need (i.e. the jaw bone). I've been struggling with this problem for so long and only now did I notice in Weight Paint mode that the teeth were also influenced by some bones I put in place around the mouth for smiling, sneering, etc. Now the mesh is moving pretty correctly, it only starts deforming if I rotate it at a very big angle but I won't need the model to open its mouth so wide anyway so it's cool

  • @Gredran
    @Gredran 2 роки тому +2

    Hey man as I always say I LOVE your process and this mouth reallyyy helped me understand them in general.
    But could you possibly do another video about mouth rigs specifically, maybe either a few mouth rigs in different forms and/or tips to do when making a mouth rig?
    I did your tutorial with the blue guy with the beanie hat and I was curious if I could rig a simple shape key rig and see if I could do it myself and I remembered struggling because you likely didn’t plan that character for a mouth rig.
    Is it mainly making it deep enough initially so you can fit things like whatever teeth and tongue, and also deep enough to have enough room to weight paint it enough to control and open and close?
    Also what do you have to think about in terms of topology on the mouth? I know there are plenty of retopo videos about face loops around someone’s mouth for rigging, but since this is simple, I wonder what to keep in mind for the topology of the simple and cartoony mouths? Topology to keep in mind that will deform well with the shape key?
    I hope you understand what I’m asking but TLDR more specific of what to think about in terms of concepts to make this process easier so we can all apply this to various things, like the skin modifier process you elaborated on further recently.
    I think a huge problem I had was I didn’t model the inside of the mouth but I’m also just unsure of what to keep in mind for the topology for the sides and around the mouth.
    Even if you don’t make a video, maybe the answers will help me for now :)
    Thank you!

    Hey. Thank you for the great tutorial~ I have a question. So the smile/frone thing would not work with my model in one shapekey. Can I somehow still get my extra shape key work with the -z location for frown and the +z for smile?

    • @Coninuya
      @Coninuya 3 місяці тому

      So if anyone wonders. You can use a new shapekey and just put a minus in front of the var thingy. Sry bad at explaining, still a noob.
      As example: var * 10 for one direction and then for the same type of lacation var * -10

So what program or course did you use to learn Blender to get this good? Any recommendations for a beginner, or can I just follow you? I especially need this mouth rig, damn it's good.
