Okay, so as I'm in my quest to learn hand lettering, I have watched an ungodly amount of tutorials and I learned the absolute MOST from this video. Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for the help, love.
Hey I want to ask something I really want to learn how to write like this but i don't know which brush i should use Could you show me how could i start ☺
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Always loved typography but never thought I would ever be able do it for myself. However after watching your previous tutorial I took a gamble and bought some pens - not stopped since they arrived! This one is a massive help - After mastering hole (that quite doesn't sound right) and it was quite easy to apply the same style to achieve most other letters, but there were some which I was still struggling with so this definitely helps fill in the gaps. I know you mentioned your not 100% comfortable doing a capital tutorial yet, but when you are if you could upload one that would be amazing! In the meantime I'm looking forward to the one on swashes and flourishes. Big fan of your work and creative style, and of course your fantastic tutorials - always great content and easy to follow. Without them I would not have even got started with creating my own work. Please keep them coming haha, :D All the very best for 2016 mate!
Once again Stephen, AWESOME! Words just aren't enough to express how much I am learning from you AND having fun! I am an absolute beginner so was wondering if you could explain the spacing a little more, ie what are the general rules for where to start the first stroke in one of the penciled boxes. I hope that makes sense. Appreciate it so much Stephen
Great tutorial, I just got my first brush pen for christmas, so this tutorial will really help me for beginning :) Keep up, you doing great work on this channel.
Hey Stephen! Thanks for the great tutorial! It would be awesome if you drop the uppercase letters soon or maybe you can upload a picture of them =] love your style and i'd like to see how you handle them =D Yo!
Hey Ste! Great tutorial. As a beginner, your vids really helped me come on leaps and bounds last year. Wishing you all the best for 2016 mate. Keep up the good work! :)
+Derpy Lion hahaha I know! It's been a while hasnt it! Hopefully I can get some more recorded while i'm not in uni. Im not sure when I go back though, it's either on the 4th, or the start of Feb. If it's the start of Feb, i'll have a good bit of time to get some more recorded :D
I just love your tutorials! A huge thankyou, the pdf is pretty helpful! I think I will try out the Lyra Brush Pen, the Tombow Brush Pen is great but in my opinion it is pretty expensive. My black one was dry and empty after one and a half week so yeah :D Thankyou for the video, it is a big big help! :)
+Yannik W. (PXL Graphics) Thank you man! and yeah the TomBow Brush pens aren't that expensive per pen, but if you're looking to buy a few of them, the price soon adds up, so I get what you mean man! The Lyra brush pens are pretty much the same, I just think the nib's on the Lyra's are a bit more sturdy which makes them a little easier to control, plus you can buy them in sets which brings the overall cost down :D and yeah, the black tombows I always noticed they dried out very quickly. Ohh, and im not sure if you know this or not, but the paper you use plays a big part of the lifetime of a pen. If the ink bleeds on the paper, it's drawing more ink out of the pen, so it's best to find smooth paper that doesnt bleed, and this also allows you to get much smoother and neater strokes :)
Ste Bradbury Design No, I didn't know that, thanks for the tip! At the moment I am using normal printer paper and the bleed is okay I think, it's pretty cheap and I need a lot of paper for practicing actually :D Thanks for your answer, just ordered a 12 pack of the Lyra's and I'm looking forward to try them out ^^ Have a great weekend, Cheers!
You have inspired me to do calligraphy vectoring, i like blackletter calligraphy, it would help me a lot if You could just make a tutorial on vectoring blackletter [Fraktur] calligraphy in adobe illustrator
hi, I'm just getting started on calligraphy and hand lettering and I need brush pens, so I was wondering what you recommend as the best pens I could get for a good price (in the us)
Hi Stephen. I recently discovered your brush lettering tutorials. They are excellent! I really like how you demonstrate the styles, and explain how you are using the brush tips. Could you comment on why you like the Lyra markers better than the Tombows? Harder/softer? Spring back better? Maintain the point? I have Tombow dual brush pens but find them a bit large to manipulate. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
Hi Pam, I'm glad my tutorials have helped you develop your skills in hand lettering! As for my reasoning for preferring the Lyra's, it's because they seem to last much longer than the Tombow's, the nibs are a bit shorter and more stiff, giving you more control, and they don't seem to deteriorate as bad as the Tombow's do. I've noticed that with the black Tombow brush pen, it runs out much quicker than the rest of the colours, and after fairly short use, the nib deteriorates, meaning it's much harder to achieve sharp edges and crisp lettering. The Lyra's tend to last much longer and don't seem to deteriorate very much after short periods. I mean they do worsen over time of course like all brush pens, but they definitely last longer in my opinion. I hope this helps 😁
+Danny Mouat Funnily enough, I'm just using my iPhone 5s camera haha and this is the tripod im using - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009GHYMB6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 I simply put the tripod on a box and aimed the camera downwards, nothing too spectacular hahah
+EK9GraphicDesign Yeah man the same rules apply, but of course it will probably be a little harder to do, or easier, im not sure since I'm not left handed haha. I will say this though, a lot of the hand letterers I look up to are left handed, and they're absolutely amazing! So it's definitely possible to do it, it will just require you to get the hang of it :)
I never claimed to have invented it bro, and I don't know of any templates, and there are very few tutorials showing you the basics behind it. In all honesty, with the guides template I gave you in this video, it should be quite easy to follow, it just takes a little bit of practice. Maybe check out the part one
No, don't get me wrong please. I never asserted that you claimed to have invented them; it's pretty obvious that you didn't. And I really appreciate both of your tutorials they are great. I was just wondering if there's maybe a PDF file out there, where everything is listed and the important things are mentioned, since you explain it that detailed, I assumed you had to learn these details first, too. So I thought you may have used such a book or so at first too. But I agree you two videos are definetly enough to practice handlettering :)
Karataron Ahh, my bad man, I miss-interpreted what you said haha. To be honest, I just learnt by looking at other peoples work and replicating it, and over time, you start to understand how things work from experimenting trying to achieve the same results as some of the amazing handlettering artists that are you there :) I was very surprised at the lack of tutorials and guides when I first started practicing it too, you would think there would be more out there but I guess it's only recently started becoming a popular skill to practice :) Anyway, I hope my tutorials have helped you man, hopefully Ill have more on the way soon ;) have a great day!
Ah, thank you for this video :) Sadly, the amazon links don't work. ("Looking for something? We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site. ") :(
+Razalogy That is the idea for another tutorial, but right now, Im not too great at doing all of the uppercase letters. Once I am more comfortable at doing them, I will definitely make a tutorial for it :D
literally the best lettering guide ever, you go through all the letters and explain how to use them really well
Okay, so as I'm in my quest to learn hand lettering, I have watched an ungodly amount of tutorials and I learned the absolute MOST from this video. Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for the help, love.

Are these similar to Copic markers?
I can not make that good, but I will continue to try
Hi Stephen. I recently discovered your brush lettering tutorials. They are excellent! I really like how you demonstrate the styles, and explain how you are using the brush tips. +Ste Bradbury Design Thanks for the (super fast!) feedback on the Lyra brush pens. That's very helpful. I have ordered a set of 10 from Amazon USA.

Can anyone tell me the name of the song used i cant find it on soundcloud from the link given below
How did you make your intro? like what kind of app? I really dig it!
+Victor Bastarrachea Adobe After Effects
Whats the song. At the first part
will it be the same for left handed?
+EK9GraphicDesign Yeah man the same rules apply, but of course it will probably be a little harder to do, or easier, im not sure since I'm not left handed haha.
