NOTES:
1. Get rid of all distractions while learning art related stuff. No social media, on phone.
2. No multitasking.
Research shows multitasking will decrease focus and attention span.
3. Stop practicing for long sessions without taking breaks.
@wise gramps what
@moved to nineret i have two nokias
@Jelly ???
Acc owner speaking Sadly for some of us this can't work like for me I have add and don't have a really good attention span so- yeah
@Voya hey probably meant the "no multitasking"
1. Deconstruction.
Don't just copy what you draw, it will only go into your short term memory and get overwritten later. Analyze it. Break it down into simple shapes, bones, muscles, and etc. Understanding what you're studying is half the process towards effeciancey.
2. Recall.
Without using any sort of referance, including your previous sketchs, draw it again from memory. This will force you to think about what you are drawing. Repetition also a key factor in improving knowledge.
3. Criticism and Self-Critique.
Review what you have made and see where you need work. Maybe have someone else review what you made as well. Rinse and repeat steps 1-3.
4. Breaks and Quality Sleep.
Sleep is insanely important towards having a healthy mind... so keep that in mind!
Also, the average adult tends to have a shoter attention span of roughly 30 to 20 mins. If your studying for two hours, break it up with 2 to 5 min breaks inbetween sessions. Your brain is like any other muscle. It needs periodic rest. So don't cram up all your free time with one thing.
5. Eliminate distractions and Multi-tasking
I've always had a bad habit of doing this. Turn off distractions. No youtube. No instagram, and no Warhammer 40k audiobooks playing in the background. Maybe some non-intrusive music or white noise/rain in the background is fine. YOU ARE STUDYING. You don't see people playing Ultrakill while trying to watch John Wick in the background, do ya? Unless they are deliberately showing off.
6. Final notes:
All of this doesn't just apply to drawing effectly, but towards learning overall. I already knew some of this type off a free coursera course... but I didn't really apply it very well. :I
now that you’ve mentioned the most hyperactive attention span destroying video game that happens to be imo the best fps ever made I AM NOT gonna be studying well ☠️

You are a life saver thankss
THANK YOUUU, the way OP described it was confusing to me, this helps a lot!!!

QUALITY SLEEP? alright Ill watch this video tomorrow good night guys
FOR ANYONE WHO HAS ADHD LIKE I DO: what can be considered "multitasking" for some can simply be our way of regulating our level of stimulus in order to focus on a specific task. for example, I always have an easier time drawing when I am listening to music or listening to audiobooks. I am able to cope with the difficult task of keeping my mind on the art. I find this helps my memory retention as well, so much so that I can often look at a sketch or drawing I've done and the song or video I was watching at the time pops back into my head!
Every brain is different. Good sleep, taking breaks, and deconstruction are all wonderful methods for my ADHD brain, but my "multitasking" is my way of regulating my stimulus levels to properly focus. Your way may be different. Try to determine when you're most focused and why that could be, and find what helps for you!

How I learned to draw, was using references.
When I first started, I would go through Pinterest, and copy drawings that look cool.
I would not directly trace it, instead, use foundations, and simplify it into simple rectangles and circles.
Then I would put details in.
I would do this when I was bored, but made sure to do this at least once a day
This could be copying down pokemon, fun animals, people in fun poses, hands, etc etc.
Then whenever I started getting good-ish at that, I would study a little bit of character design, shape theory, colour theory etc.
Since I got all that practice, learning foundations, and learning why a artist did this etc etc.
This method did leave me kind of tied to references, as any time I didn't use them, it would look completely wrong. So I sacrificed a bit of originality.
But on things I practiced a lot, (general human anatomy such a hands, proportions, faces, cats, and some pokemon) I can do without references.
I'm a decent artist, I think. Easy to wow my family... but at the same time, however, I'm starting to realize how much better I could've been if I had put it into proper practice. I might as well start now. Thanks for the video.
Me too! I'm going to do it

Yeah, I'm that guy. Everyone I know that ISN'T an artist thinks I'm an amazing artist, but I know better, lol. It's frustrating having people have that opinion of you, then also know if you have your work critiqued by an actual good artist would be like "man that is ass".

I do most of what he described now with my art assignments. But I also committed to myself to improve from where I was previously. Due to circumstances, I didn’t pick up a pencil or brush for a year and thought I had forgotten all I had learned from before I stopped. But to my amazement the first painting when I started my art again was very good. Better than where I had previously left off. Apparently There is something to the long term storage memory thing, because once I committed to myself to improve in my art, my focus, 3rd eye, and concentration became clearer and the memory muscle kicked in. My mind was open and receptive to learning. It’s amazing how the brain works. *(The 3rd eye is almost like a meditative state some have described as being in the zone) Bottom line is, it doesn’t matter how you learn, the commitment starts with you, your inner self, your consciousness to achieve what you seek.

Thanks, I didn't want to watch a whole vid, but what are points 1, 2 & 5? Can someone elaborate a bit? Deconstruction? Is that analysing things to see how better to draw them, or is it looking at other artists pics to figure out how they do something? If so, I do that already. Recall? I take it this is just trying to remember your mistakes, to avoid them in future, or is it? Spaced Repetition? Is this just a regimental routinw mindset thing like "Gonna draw everyday at 5:45 PM sharp for 3-4 hours" or "Gonna draw only in 1 hour sessions with 20 min breaks, all day" (like weight training regimes). If so I do something kinda similar, I just draw everyday for hours & hours but never set a time, or duration.

Hey, i just wanted to thank you so much for this video and information.
Learning the science behind it always really helps me understand better and i definitely have been a bob for way to long. Being a bob made me fall out of love with art for many years just because i thought i was broken. i never felt like i was progressing and so it made my thoughts spiral into thinking my skill was a problem besides not being able to never retain any new knowledge. 10 years later i took a stab at art again realizing its always been my passion and what i love most but quickly ran into the same issue with the same thoughts...until i just watched this video. 🖤
Note to self: YOU CANNOT FOCUS WHEN YOU ARE OVERSTIMULATED, AND WHEN YOU CAN'T FOCUS, YOU WON'T RETAIN ANYTHING.
REMOVE ALL DISTRACTIONS, TAKE SHORT BREAKS TO INCREASE FOCUS TIME
AND REALLY BREAK DOWN YOUR STUDIES BEFORE MOVING ON TO SOMETHING NEW.
and PS. If your passionate about it, then it's worth the work no matter how hard, or how late you are to start finally pursuing it. It's never too late to make yourself proud 💕
Doesn't apply only to art, this is useful in basically anything that requires effort mentally, studies, work, and other skills

Stop doing these things:
- Get rid of all distractions
- Don’t multi task
- Stop going long periods with out breaks. (Spilt your work sessions into 25 min increments with 2 min breaks in between)
Things to do:
- Deconstruct your drawings and reference material.
- Recall the information by attempting to draw from memory.
- Self critique your art and find what you would change.
- Get some quality sleep.
- Repeat studies periodically throughout the year to ingrain it into long term memory.
- Don’t give up! Skills take time to build

@@geniusjjangjjangmanboongboong to be exact I don't remember or use 90% of school lessons, only thing school was useful for me was history and english class that's it
@WindySky28 elementary is actually lowkey important but after 6th grade, it's literally a lesson loop where we keep recalling not even what we desire to know more of what we want slowly losing it.
Ppftt You are kidding?
*I blame university*
“You probably don’t remember what you had for lunch a few days ago”

God I forget all sorts of basic things all the time. Everyone I know always tell me I’m lying because they’re impossible things to forget but I really do forget about them :’(( It’s hard
This video is making my whole day 🖤
Watched this video years ago, still hits.
“Do not multitask”.
*scrolls through comment section while watching video*
i think hes referring to the ones that arent as experienced at drawing yet 😅 , once you get better then multitasking wont affect you as much
@Phantom Foxx02 lmao
Same
R/ madlads
just goes to show how actually uninformative the video is tbh
Any one els have that friend who was just born drawing and they have never searched up how to draw , they just knew and you like ...... ⭕👄⭕
Lol I’m that one friend, and another friend of mine begs me to teach them and I’m like; “I DON’T KNOW!? JUST DRAW-“
Yes, I'm that friend and no, it's not impossible. Some brains are just wired that way 😊
My friends like just draw and do it every day the same drawing till you get good at it and you can remember it and draw something different and once you get used to that try drawing both without looking at them and see if you can remember both once you do try two more drawing and so on..........😒duh😒
Me:😲what?!?!😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲
I do! And then They never even draw, meanwhile I’m here trying to get good.
I am also That friend XD
I appreciate the review of all the tips at the end of the video!
Glad it was helpful!
I myself am a psychology student plus the art president in my school. I can tell that this method really does help a lot, But most of all you should love what you’re doing, in order to truly improve in it ;)

“We are all Bob, Except Dave, he isn’t Bob.”
Me- this logic enlightened me.
Thanks. This video reminds me of doing intentional practice again!
I've watched multiple vids on this subject, but for some reason yours just clicked. I think it was just the simplified list and explanations. Definitely the simplified list was good for me though
Me: *Draws every single day and every single hour trying hard to improve my drawings*
That one perfect kid in class who rarely draws: *Draws 100000x better than me*
ღGalaxy_Chanღ omg 😂 I can relate he barely draws but every time he draws it’s so so good
ღGalaxy_Chanღ OMG yasss! My best friend is like perfect at everything! She always wins!
Ahahahahahaha im the kid who rarely draws but somehow got my drawing skills better without me drawing anything for idk like, a whole 8 months??? Dont know, never counted
i have a best friend who improves at a speed of 283620420011669992727277247107710013.
@@jinn2722 same here! I stopped drawing for a few weeks or maybe months, then when I started drawing again, my drawing will be a lot better than last time, so I'm improving by hiatus drawing lolol

@@warker6186 are you a Vagene?
The purpose is to become Dave, so you're advertising what people shouldn't want to be and celebrating it. No wonder you're a Bob. lol
First UA-cam video I ever saw with a tl:dr at the end! That’s nice!
