Laura Chernoff Thanks for the feedback Lauren. Yes there is a big difference between the Tombow and FC brush pens. The FC brush tips don't flex well and bounce back. I don't use them.

Charlotte Rogerson There are different ways of holding a pen. Personally, I write with a “normal” grip but when I grip a brush pen, I use the “pole” or “wrong” grip.
Very good tips! I sort of start with doing the strokes drills, straight lines curved lines, ovals are always last and then I write the whole alphabet. I have trouble with most of the letters but I feel a very small improvement due to practicing. Thank you for the tutorial! 🙏🏻🙇🏻♀️👌

Lefties have to adjust the paper angle until they have a good thick downstroke. Try to write from the side, not from above or below. You will also have a different push pull on the brush tip while doing strokes. Lots of lefties are super talented lettering artists and calligraphers.
I love your videos. I play them while I'm practicing because your voice is so soothing and calm and because I appreciate your simple instructions. You make me feel like I can really do this!

Hi! You don't need to know cursive at all to practice brush pen calligraphy because they are not related at all.

Usually if the strokes are the same size then you aren't pushing down hard enough for the downstrokes to be thick.

You could either replace the Tombows with Kelly Creates Small Brush Tip pens or exchange the workbook and get the one for "large brush pens."

Kelly, will inkjet printers print the practice sheets well enough on HP premium laser copy paper or will they smear? I need to know before I buy some.
Sue you can use any type of printer with the laser jet paper. I use an inkjet printer and the ink is fine.

Practice the basic strokes every day and slowly work your way through the lowercase alphabet. Only practice about 20 minutes a day.
