- Podcast #8 “Desert Dave” Halladay
Consultant on films such as Castaway and TV series such as Survivorman, David Halladay is an unsung hero. Essentially unknown to the general public he is a legend in the world of survival skills. Not content to stick with the more simple subjects of fire starting and flint bladed knife making, David uses every outdoor skill oriented opportunity to fall right back into the world of philosophy and spiritual connectedness to nature.
Music Credits:
Jeremiah Johnson; Adapted by Les Stroud
Directed By Les Stroud
Starring Les Stroud, David Holladay
Love David Holladay.
This was an AWESOME guest. I could listen to him talk for days..... Thank You Les for having this gentleman on.
This fellow and Larry Kinsella are two of the most interesting guys I have ever listened to. If any of you don't know who Mr Kinsella is....look him up. He's an experimental archaeologist from Southern Illinois. Does a lot work on native skills. He's definitely worth a watch here on UA-cam.
Gratitude is more then needed right now
That was beautiful. Philosophical and motivational. Thank you.
Les I appreciate all these videos. I would love to hear your thoughts on survival at an older age. How it was different when your were younger to now.
I wouldnt call him old
Actually this Guy is in great shape
That would be interesting
A brilliant man love to hear his wisdom and words. I have always believed that we havent become more advanced...just more complicated. Stay connected with all and everyone around you and enjoy it all
What a great philosopher. Thank you for making me go hmmm.
Oh I remember Mr. Halladay! "Desert Dave" if I recall correctly. He was a local adviser on the Sonoran Dessert episode. Looking forward to watching this episode!
I never knew how much i had in common with dave
The teacher teaches the teacher!
Love the commentary starting at 6:35 about contrasting the placidity and more limited stimuli of native cultures vs (Dave used perfect description here in my view) "modern insanity". It can definitely feel like sensory overload moving through a modern urban area. That's why I feel like there are many many great concepts and advantages to modern urban communities, but for my taste, I'd prefer to live more remotely and connected to nature, and visit the city infrequently, simply for a change of scenery. Everyone has a different desire (and tolerance level!) for wall-to-wall people and stimuli; to each their own!
The Jeremiah song definately needs a banjo to fill it out!!!
Great interview and great music from a great man!!
Thanks for bringing me something unique while I enjoy my breakfast and morning coffee.
noo i was asleep when this premie

much love from Montana!
Who mis this guy in a shirt and tie ? WOW, its the loud and proud Les Stroud! Thank you for the video.
Awesome
I watched a video with Dave Holladay at one of those big gatherings that were done every year. He asked everyone to close their eyes. He then talked a little and then asked them all, without opening their eyes to point north. Out of more than a dozen, only one was correct. It showed me that everyone was only wanting to be given entertainment, not really learn something. I'm still amazed by this man, and will always do so.. Just amazing. I am becoming wordy again, sorry, Dave, with very little, has impressed me in a way that I really can't explain. ;-)
Tuesday afternoon, the trees are drawing me near, got to find out why, those gentile voices i hear say it all with a sigh. Additionally; Deep inside the forest there's a door that opens to another world,....... take me home.
Not too sure why,, but I am a avid tao ti ching reader lol HOLYLY MOLY
