as someone who recently became sexually active, and also as someone who received zero sex education in middle/high school, thank you so much. you have been one of the primary educators who have given me the ability to make informed decisions, as well as the confidence to talk about sex with my partner in a safe, healthy way.

I didn't realize that a lot of sexual education online don't take cis men in consideration, but it's totally true. I think when we think about inclusion we don't think to include someone who seems "privileged" in the society. But the patriacal society affects men too and this is one area it does a lot, men talking about something vulnerable or feelings its frown upon a lot of the times, and I even saw people mocking their sexuality! (for example the virgin boy thing that has to do with toxic expectations of men) I think we who have done a lot of work but also have the privilege to discuss more about these topics, can bring that stuff more. I would like to see a video of yours discussing with cis heterosexual men about sexuality and expectations they feel about it.

Considering all the sex ed I got in school was essentially "penis goes in vagina, wiggle a bit, 9 months later you've got a baby" I'm so grateful for all the online resources. I have basically learnt everything I know about sex and relationships online. I have a couple friends who are secondary school teachers and they now have to discuss lgbt identities so at least things seem to be shifting in a better direction for in person education but it's still not as vast and open as the what you can find online. But yes, a major downside is that not everyone has access to it around the world and of course the issues with politics and things being restricted. It's such a crucial thing to be educated about and to have safe access to!

I'm taking classes on security, which isn't the same as privacy, but both are so important! Especially if you have content on a device and someone else gets it, and ends up who knows where. A police officer did a talk when I was in high school about how to stay safe, and what things to avoid until you turn 18 and talked about the risks, but I don't think people fully understand how to keep things safe.

One thing re: the qualifications thing is the idea that everyone who does sex ed should have qualifications ignores that there are some bodies that just aren't present in sexology or sexual education curriculums! I've looked into sexology masters degrees, but the ones I can find in Europe have at most a passing reference to trans people in a diversity module. A cis person having a sex education degree doesn't mean they actually know *anything* about trans specific sexual health.

I learned a lot from Sexplanations, since that channel was supported by Vlogbrothers, I trusted it (I'd already seen their other shows like SciShow and Crash Course). But as an asexual, who doesn't want a sex life, or anything sexual, it was hard to learn about what's normal, what's safe, and how to make boundaries. I recently found Ace Dad Advice who has some great videos on boundaries and negotiating needs with a partner, which I find useful as I do plan to get married.
Learning that there are more types of intimacy than just what people talk about in the mainstream has been great too, but there's also some kink elements which aren't talked about at all, you know how to navigate those sites and how to avoid the kinds of content I'm repulsed by. Let alone, the fear that I'll be too repulsed to have any kind of intimacy with my partner. Thankfully he's very understanding, but when most of my friends were having these thoughts 8-10 years ago about crushes, and intimacy, I feel left out and scared, and where doctors aren't any help (medical aphobia is horrible) I have nowhere to go but the internet. All my ace friends are single, so it puts me in an odd spot. I'm glad there's stuff online, I just wish it was easier to find.

I learned so much from on line sex ed, mostly on UA-cam. My high school had a decent sex ed health class, but it wasn't taught until our Senior year, which was way too late imo. So a lot of what I learned came from on line, as well as some good conversations with GYNs at Planned Parenthood when I was first going on the pill.

  • @LaCafedora
    @LaCafedora 3 роки тому +1

I was fortunate that my school sex ed wasn't totally terrible, nor was what I received from my parents; that is to say, neither of them straight-up LIED to me about anything. But it was incomplete. Notably they were accurate about all of the biology and mechanics of sex, but what was missing was any social rules about the behavior surrounding sex. What social situations lead to sex? What social behaviors about sex are good? What are bad behaviors? And the word "consent" was never used. That was the late 1980s, and it seems like not enough has changed. It's fair to say that I learned a good deal about sex by watching porn, and not quite enough to understand that porn is fiction.
Let me reiterate my personal gratitude to you, Hannah, for doing what you do! I make a point of telling my friends about you whenever a relevant subject comes up. Thankfully, you've made 10 years of videos, so there are many subjects that can be pointed here. You're awesome!

This is slightly unrelated to the video - but something that isn't talked about enough is the issue of "exposing literal kids to BDSM under the guise of sex ed" thats really prominent on tiktok rn. A whole generation of teenage girls were groomed by the internet into thinking that they have to enjoy being choked, and that being "vanilla" is shameful. I see so many underage girls straight up posting their BDSM test results online for everyone to see and it's bc we we're taught to thinking that it's normal. Not to diminish the work that *actual* sex educators are doing though - I honestly believe that watching your videos is one of the only things that pulled me away from fully falling into that trap.

I am researching everything sexual and reproductive health for my master's thesis so I obvs. have a lot of thoughts on this. Thanks for the great video shedding light on so many aspects and difficulties of online sex ed! national/international curricula for sex ed, standard trainings for sex educators are definitely a huge aspect that even the most developed countries have not caught up with yet and as we all know, low-quality sex ed can lead to real big health hazards.
--- also, just as an idea: as part of your work you could look at who is actually doing (online-) sex ed, which resources there are, if it's private/public etc; like a "taking stock of (online) sex ed" kind of thing ... would love to see this!!

Hannah! My public school sex education really wasn't that bad as far as they go, but you were the majority of my sex education! When it came to things like queer sex, LGBTQ+ issues/safety, and just the pleasure part (rather than just baby-making lol) it was a combination of you and other Sex Ed UA-camrs (Stevie Boebi, Calum McSwiggan, and Melanie!), and sex ed blogs! In my opinion, this is not the BEST way to learn, and public funding needs to increase, so we have better in-school education, but I've always loved all your content and it was so so helpful as a young person navigating sex for the first time. Genuinely, your advice got me out of some would-be-dangerous situations, and I'm so grateful you do what you do !

I mean, my sex Ed was “guy gets aroused, inserts penis into vagina, ejaculates”. No discussion on any of the in between steps, and the only mention of girls was that 1) it was very painful (and eventually over many times it would no longer hurt as much) and 2) the only way to 100% know you’re not pregnant is to never have sex.
Everything else I’ve learned online. I’m 24, for reference, and went to public school in the U.S.
(We also learned about stds and very briefly about how “contraceptives don’t work”. Did a pretty intense study of the male anatomy, and breezed over the female.)

But it should be a part of the education and they do try to make the rules from goverment how to imporove it and be more inclusiv. How well it get implemented in the school harder to know when not there. But a school is bound by law to have sex education and been that sence 1955. First parts start in ages 10-12 years and 13-15 yearsish is the second part when I was in school and not I think it is included in all 9 years that we have compulsory schooling in sweden

The Online and Social myth. The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS RACIST. The United States Of America is not Racist against anyone!!!!. The Black Lives Matter Organization is a great organization. But the change that needs to happen has nothing to do with race!!! It's all about not putting a bully in a power position. I think that ALL LIVES MATTER!!! . My second opinion is that every one is free to live there life the way they like. I don't think that the school system is a place for our kids to learn sex!!! . I also don't think Google is good either. Parents need to take responsibility for raising their children!!!. The idea you can fuc and if a child happens you have no? . I just don't get it!.

Nowadays, there's so many tips, techniques and tricks that it's sometimes hard to know where to start. But it's not rocket science to get your man shivering with ecstasy just by changing the way you talk. As simple as this sounds, maybe try escalating it a step at a time, go’ogle something like Words of Desire by Celestine Dessike to sneakily crawl into his mind and let it build on from that.
