Got my 24 roadglide for a steal from a guy that said he couldn't get comfortable on it after 400 miles. Got it home, checked the suspension and it was bottomed out from the factory. Perfect ride now😁
Nice video. Dealerships should just make those part of the initial purchase price experience. When your shelling out $25k-$52K for a new ride, this should be done for free.
The new Road Glide rocks! Not only the suspension. Just when I thought I don’t need a new Harley Davidson this new bike jumps in my head! I can’t shake it off! 😂
Thanks Matt! I just bought a 2024 SweetGlide! Yes I said SweetGlide haha. That was something I definitely needed to get familiar with! I will be sure to adjust it when I go two up and tour packin!
I recently purchased my '24 Road Glide at Durham HD. I had Jesse help me do this before I took it home. Made it ride so much better! Highly recommend tou do this if you haven't!
Thanks Matt. I've enjoyed your vacationing road trip videos for a while. This is the first technical video I've watched. I just bought a new 2024 Street Glide Friday and put 600 miles on it over the weekend. I noticed the rear suspension was really harsh. Im over 6'2" and fully geared up about 255l/260 lbs. Plus probably 10-15 lbs of gear in the hard bags. When I followed your directions and loosened the top ring, it broke free as you described. But then when I went to loosen it to the top, no movement. I thought it was stuck or cross threaded. Then I realized it was all the way to the top already. Absolutely no pre load set. So I set it to 16mm. Gonna take it out for a ride and I'm guessing that should change things a lot. Once again thanks for your help and great videos.
@@MattLaidlaw nNght and day difference. Put 200 more miles on today and it was a dramatic difference. On a side note, do you have any idea or knowledge when Saddleman will have a Road sofa seat available for the 2024 Road and Street Glides? The dealerships here have no idea. Just curious if you had the inside scoop. Thanks again.
Great video and information. Something to keep in mind. Over miles and time the right side will pick up grit and dirt in the threads. Clean them before adjusting them. The threads are very fine and forcing the adjuster nut and lock ring could damage the threads.
Mine had zero pre-load whatsoever. I went with 8mm of preload on the right shock, and #2 on the adjusting knob to account for about 10 pounds of junk in my saddlebags. We shall see how she rides haha! Thanks again!
very informative ! it's amazing how dealers don't pass the information to buyers... I have a couple of friends recently bought a 2024 and they have no clue about the suspension adjustment and infotainment systems . Good to see your video's and share this ! too bad I live eastern Canada to visit you guys !!!
Excellent! Thank you Matt! I did not know that the shocks on the regular 2024 RG/SG are different from the 2024 CVOs. The 2024 CVO shocks have a rebound setting as well.
Great Video Matt!! Could you do the same video for the new Road Glide CVO ST? I just bought one and it's be great to have a full presentation/setup video on these. Thanks
Thanks Matt.. Very helpful and easily explained!! Yet, I believe that HD should pay more attention to the adjustment technique to make it more handy and accessible as this will directly impact the overall riding quality!
3" is a 50% increase in travel?..and i have to use a spaner wrench to adjust?.. Everything else Harley did upgrading the 24's is a plus..but really a wrench??..I have ESA on my Transcontinental..just sit on it and it automatically adjusts solo, partner and or luggage...the main reason i didn't buy one.. don't think u should have to upgrade a part which should come std at that price tag.. Appreciate the video 😊
This is great thank you. Can you please do a video on the road glide cvo/st front and rear, the directions in the manual for the cvo/st are hard to understand especially the front.... Thank you
Thank you for this video Matt I have a question I’m short 5’5 what can I do to lower it enough to be completely comfortable. I put lowering shocks but man it rides like a VW rough. Please help
Thanks for the videos. I like the info you’re putting out. Question though, is there a way on these new 24 models to remove the speed limiter without using an aftermarket tuner? I don’t wanna void my warranty but 102 after the software update won’t let me keep up with the friends I ride with. Haha
Matt, great video, even though I don't have a 2024 bike yet, I still watched it for future reference. Related question: I have a 2022 Road Glide Special and I recently bought and installed the HD Screamin' Eagle/Öhlins Remote Reservoir Rear Shocks (to be honest, mostly because I like the way they look). So here's my question (hopefully it's not a dumb question): where would you suggest I go if I want to have someone adjust them properly for me? I have looked at the owner's manual and several UA-cam videos, and It's just not making sense to me. I'm kind of a new rider (been riding for only 3 years) and I don't really understand preload, compression damping and rebound damping. Again, love your videos, I'm a big fan of your videos, especially your road trip ones, hoping to see you guys up here in Seattle some day. I've even been down to Laidlaw's 2 years ago and met you and some of the guys.
Wait.. does this actually lower the bike in a sense? I'm 5'6 love my RG but was unaware of this if I could gain get 1/2 in it be perfect! No puns.. Thanks Matt as always!
Great video and I have the 2024 needed to do the same thing. I love my dealership and in conversation with the owner I said you know I almost didn’t buy this because of how it rode and she really talked about how we need to share it with you and/or make sure we fit you before you leave kind of to your point. Quick question, are those bag stands a Harley product, looking for some
I find the suspension on the 24s are really great for solo riders at 1 rider weight setup. The issues are its far too harsh for 2up. I guess what im trying to say is once your carrying significant weight use the weight suggestions as a suggestion
Great video Matt Did you happen to do a video on the 24 infotainment center? Gotta 24 CVO Legendary Orange delivered yesterday and after spending several hrs with it I got frazzled , yeah but come to find out in aux mode the volume on the radio would only let me go about a quarter of the way up in volume! My son came home from work , started the bike and then the volume would go up and down w/o being regulated.Did you know this?
I find the solid mount heim joints on the ohlins offer a rigid ride. I was really comfortable on the stock suspension until I installed the aftermarket set up, it’s consistent on the rebound and gives a great response input. My personal favourite is the cornering rigidity. Love the channel, great content Matt!….. This just goes to show not every Harley needs cash to be better just some time patience and the proper set up for riding styles.
The dealership I purchased my '24 SG from took the spanner wrench out of the saddlebag and didn't give it to me so, I had to go buy one. Bullcrap a dealership would do that.
As much as I love watching your good and informative videos on this one I’d just say ditch the Harley stuff and buy decent after market ones, it’ll transform the bike
I'd like to think that a "Premium Bike" like this should come factory equipped with "ESA" which is an Electronic Suspension Adjustment and easily done with the click of a button.
Stock shocks are built to accommodate a wide range of riders. They are also not the best quality. Although you may be able to tweek the ride comfort, nothing compares to shocks built by a shock company that are built for a specific rider.
Throw that suspension away buy Legend Arc Revos call it a day get familiar with the clickers you’ll never turn back and you’ll never get past in the twisties … don’t get hustled by Ohlins there Not guaranteed for life
Matt, I think you have the measurement wrong. The book says from the top of the top ring to the bottom of the bottom ring. Not the space in between. That's probably a 3 or 4 mm difference. That's the way I read it...
Matt has it right. I just picked up my new RG and I will say the way they word it is confusing but it's the space between the rings. It states "the distance from the top of the adjustment ring to the bottom of the lock ring". The adjustment ring is the bottom one so the top of that to the bottom of the lock ring, which is the top. Would've been easier if they just said "the open space between the two rings."
@scotttarentino6892 yeah I totally agree. I adjusted mine a little more than the book says fir my weight. I gotta say, I love the the suspension. Maybe next year I'll think about upgrading it. A legend suspension would definitely be a worthy upgrade. I'm riding it for a year before I do that. Heck, I haven't even touched the exhaust yet. That , I'll probably do in rhe Spring.
I have the 2024 Street Glide and I must admit that the new suspension is much better than the old suspension with only 2" of travel. I just wish that HD had designed a means of adjusting the right shock without that cheap knuckle busting spanner. It is a terrible adjustment tool.
I just bought a R1250 RT "road touring" motorcycle with ESA. It's nice to have electronic self adjusting suspension. It just works. Kinda hurt, letting the HD go. Try a GSA instead of a Pan America, sometime. Get some exposure to broaden your horizons.
Great video Matt. Every single H-D Salesperson in the country should watch this and be able to explain it or set it up with their customers.
Just bought a Street Glide and had no idea that it was that important to adjust. Thanks for the tips here, and i am going to go test this out today
Got my 24 roadglide for a steal from a guy that said he couldn't get comfortable on it after 400 miles. Got it home, checked the suspension and it was bottomed out from the factory. Perfect ride now😁
😬 I’m telling you. People aren’t dialing their pre load properly. Glad it found a new home. Enjoy the ride. 🤙🏼
Absolitely CRITICAL information. Makes a massive difference.
Absolutely love mine Matt! If the preload is set on this suspension the ride is superb. Best factory HD suspension i have ridden ever.
Nice video. Dealerships should just make those part of the initial purchase price experience. When your shelling out $25k-$52K for a new ride, this should be done for free.

Yea at your size you need some pre-load! It should help a lot once you set it correctly.

cool thanks, is crazy to see this manual adjustment in this top model bike....I can´t believe it..
Had no idea about this! Headed to the garage right now to dial it in. Thank you!

Matt just rocking those born free 15 Vans.... 🎉
IYKYK. Haha. 🤙🏼
Very helpful!! As one who was not gifted with a lick of mechanical know how, that’s pretty simple. Thanks for the detailed step by step, Matt!
The least red book! no surprise, as your explanation is much better, than reading that book. See you tomorrow...

For all they charge for preparation, this should be ste for every rider prior to delivery.
Thank you for this tip @matt, what a difference it made to my 24 SG ride comfort
Glad I could help!
Matt, can you post one for the cvo st 2024?
Congrats on the reopening! Shop looks really good.
Thank you!

Hi Mat, I would love to see this done on a softail heritage. Top notch video as always!
Good One Matt, very helpful tips, look forward to the next vid cheers Mick
Thank you! Great video.
Great explanation. Yes, we all need to read our owners manual.
Thanks brother....this is a big help.

Thank you
Great video as always Matt
Awesime video, gracias!!
‘Upgraded’ to Legends on my last RG. Sticking w/ stock on my ‘24 CVO as it’s a better ride than the Legends. Harley got this one right.
Thank you Mr. Matt!! Great information!
Dealerships have to do this for the customers as part of the prep.
Matt….could u do the same video for a 2022 roadglide? Thnx
I’ve done it already. Look up adjusting Harley suspension.
Very helpful Would you be willing to do the 24 CVO it has more setting and I like your breakdown on everything
The CVO Road Glide ST? Yes, I’ll do that in the future. The regular CVOs are the same as this video.
Good luck with the reopening Matt hope it all goes well 😎🤙🏻
Thank you for this video Matt I have a question I’m short 5’5 what can I do to lower it enough to be completely comfortable. I put lowering shocks but man it rides like a VW rough. Please help
Can you recommend a good US brand that does reverse gears for Harleys Matt?
Thanks for the videos. I like the info you’re putting out. Question though, is there a way on these new 24 models to remove the speed limiter without using an aftermarket tuner? I don’t wanna void my warranty but 102 after the software update won’t let me keep up with the friends I ride with. Haha
good information mate
This is fantastic … but … can we get an instructional for the FXLRST monoshock ?
Read the owners manual.
Good job. Kudos!
Hey Matt does the Road King have the same setup?
Thank you again Matt. Do you not having damping adjusters also on the bottom of both shocks? My 23 CVO does. Makes a big difference in the ride.

Can the 24 rear suspension from a SG be mounted on a 2008 Ultra Classic?
If you're not carrying any extra weight, do you keep the hydraulic adjuster on the left completely backed off at zero?
Will this rear suspension fit on pre 23/24 year models
I got Progressive 412's and a world of difference.
H-D should include ESA for these models
I wish Harley had the weight of the tour packs on their website to include the rack.
Well done! Very useful. Thank's a lot.
Most people are going to want to get away from the asymmetrical rear suspension...
Preload on one side, valve adjustment on the other???
Can you tell if suspension is asymmetrical? I can't

Wouldn't response/feel be different In aggressive cornering ???

Did you ask for it back? I’m sure they would have gladly given you one. It was probably mistakenly taken out

No I didn’t. Your dealer didn’t give it to you.

You will have back issues or scoliosis if you keep those stock shocks. Take it from me, the STOCK MAN 😅
Interesting how people buy these bikes and completely rely on the dealership for maintenance.
