This is so cool because it can allow you create repeatable results. You can save the tone curves as presets, even creating curve presets that reflect changes made in other programs. The only change that I would suggest is adding the tone strip as an addition to the original image-as opposed to taking up part of the images bottom edge.
I have to agree. Great job on all the tutorials I've seen so far. Awesome tips. I've been watching and pruchasing vids for years now, but this is truly powerful. Love it.
Clear, precise and to the point. A very helpful tutorial. Used it on some of my honeymoon pics i've been meaning to edit and wow just wow. Thanks for your knowledge.
Thanks Denny - your content is really excellent! Learning so much. I'm a big user of your presets - and they have provided a great starting point or in many cases a finishing touch to an image. Love your Lightroom Profiles (used from the basic panel) - hope you can create more of those - I tend to use them more than the presets. Cheers, Pete.
Love the video. Will have to replay it several times to remember points. I am a retired submarine sailor and used to using manuals. Written instructions are easier for old sailors like me to process.
Hi Lyndon! You can find the video transcript in the description. It's available for most of my videos. Here's the one for this tutorial: dennystips.com/my-secret-tone-curves-trick/
Excellent tutorial on curves. I tried making an action, but on the next picture I opened & applied the action, the effect filled the whole picture & was vertical instead of horizontal. Guess I have a lot to learn on creation of actions. Would be indebted to a universal action
So cool. I was wondering about matching in photoshop. Let’s say you have a treated image at the top of the file and the one at the base has no treatment but it’s the same image. How would you match with the curves?
It's somewhat possible but unfortunately not in the same way. You can import a photo with a tone chart into Lightroom but that still requires Photoshop, Affinity Photo or some other image editor. I have a tutorial on it here: ua-cam.com/video/yAoi1twUSvs/v-deo.html
It'll work. The gradient will look a bit weird. Also, CMYK curves has a reversed chart (bottom-left is whites and top-right is blacks). But you will still be able to drag the tones up/down and get the colors you want.
1)Is there any difference between the Tone Curves in lightroom and photoshop ? 2) Why do you prefer using the tone curves in photoshop rather than in lightroom? cheers
There are some differences with the colors. Although I prefer using curves in Photoshop because it's less laggy, Photoshop was used in this video because this is a Photoshop technique. Here's the video tutorial for Lightroom: ua-cam.com/video/yAoi1twUSvs/v-deo.html

How do you create an add on to an image in photoshop?
@@PerfectViolation Increase the canvas size at bottom I think is what he means.
First ever time I've seen a video on youtube where I actually learned without pausing or rewinding. Great job, so clear and well structured work.
I have to agree. Great job on all the tutorials I've seen so far. Awesome tips. I've been watching and pruchasing vids for years now, but this is truly powerful. Love it.

Bro. you are a genius*****
So cool. I was wondering about matching in photoshop. Let’s say you have a treated image at the top of the file and the one at the base has no treatment but it’s the same image. How would you match with the curves?
Basically, you have only 2 layers in the file.
Good tutorial. I hope to see how you would use this to replicate effects as you mentioned at the end of the video. Subscribed. Thanks.
jon bilson hey man, have you found a way to replicate the colors and tones of other image?
amazing!
Thanks so very much...
brilliant!!!!
great tool
thanks
Where do I find the colour contrast video you mention in this video? I'd love a link to that video!
can you add a video of how to bring the charts into a photo? I'm having some difficulty.
Sorry for the late reply!
Can you elaborate on what you mean by bringing the chart into a photo?
amazing
you rock!!
Anselm Adams would be delighted with this - his 'Zone System'
amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great!
Bravo...
Interesting. Is it possible for you to slow it down or at least highlight the button you are talking about? Great tutorial too!
Super,
Also. How do I hide the chart at the bottom of my image?
Can this be done in lightroom?
It's somewhat possible but unfortunately not in the same way. You can import a photo with a tone chart into Lightroom but that still requires Photoshop, Affinity Photo or some other image editor. I have a tutorial on it here: ua-cam.com/video/yAoi1twUSvs/v-deo.html
Can you do this in Dark table?
How can you use it to replicate someone else's toning. For instance I have always loved Dan Winters black and white work
I have a 2-part tutorial on how to replicate looks: ua-cam.com/video/xZKV8bLH_78/v-deo.html
nice bro
I want to learn, please help. Upload more video tutorials.
+Nosaj RojeT VLOGS Definitely will! If you have any requests, feel free to send it over :)
What's the name of the song ?
Does this work if the image is CMYK?
It'll work. The gradient will look a bit weird. Also, CMYK curves has a reversed chart (bottom-left is whites and top-right is blacks). But you will still be able to drag the tones up/down and get the colors you want.
