This is great information. One thing that I think would help the video is that when you get to the end of editing a particular photo, slow down and show the before and after to make the difference as clear and observable as possible.
@@thaticelandicguy , I have to give you big KUDOS!! it's only been 10 days since I watched your video and started experimenting with your tips. It's made my results so much better. Thanks a ton!
You are without a doubt the best Lightroom teacher on UA-cam, at least for me. Extremely easy for beginner & hobbyist users to understand. You do an excellent job explaining professional tricks and processes in a manner that is not overwhelming. Not to mention fun to watch. Really have to say your videos & this channel have not only elevated my skills but my enjoyment of the hobby as well. Cheers from Chicago!
Duuuuuuuuude good LORD. watched this video and wrote it all down then went to work on some images. Been at this for 10+ yrs and gotta say THANKS absolutely the most powerful editing techniques i have come across. My images, both wildlife and landscapes, are coming alive as i work through them now. can’t thank you enough. brilliant man brilliant!!!
Great tips! Personally for things like Tip 7, when intersecting another mask I like to use intersect with object instead of subject. Then I can paint exactly what I want where subject will often grab some unwanted areas that you have to brush out like it did with your bird nest. Using object for me makes it more precise and saves a potential step of getting rid of areas after.
I love how you get nerdily excited about the lil things (I am the same!) I think it is absolutely cute😍 this video was super helpful to a beginner like me. I am now gonna watch your next video. Thanks for the amazing content
First video I've watched of yours. I'm a portrait photographer but I love the way landscape photographers edit their photos. I combine that editing style with my portraits. Going to purchase your LUT pack as well ! Thank you ! Also great quick tips. For portraits I rarely use the linear gradient. Maybe I'll experiment a bit.
Wow, thanks for teaching us how to make our photos look a lot better ! One question, what kind of computer and model you're currently working with. I am beginning to struggle a little bit with the one I have, because of the latest version of Lightroom, calling for more computer's resources, so that, I am starting to think of changing it. Thanks, Juan
Well, that was great! I thought I was already pretty adept when it came to Lightroom, but the vast majority of the tips you have shown are new to me, thanks! Intersecting gradients has opened my eyes to so many more possibilities. I now have to go back over hundreds of images and try it out 🙃
Was stopping by to give my Icelandic brother some love and saw this video at 134k views(at the time of commenting) and the biggest smile filled up my face. Bet your old high school mates are thinking “that Arnulfur is a teacher now”. Love from Canada brother.
Damn, I´ve been editing in Lightroom Classic for over 5 years and I still learned sth new in every part of your video. Maybe my editing just sucks haha. Keep it up, your pics are 🔥
For Tip #2 there shouldn't be any reason to do the linear gradient if you are going to select the whole image with no gradient and then intersect with the luminance mask. Just go straight to the luminance mask and adjust there, you end up with the same selection. Nice tips though, I always learn something watching other people's work flow. Thanks,
Keep coming with the great editing tips!! Your preset organization is awesome too!! Definitely considering switching my organization system for my own 🥰
Great video. Thank you!!! 🙏 Like a couple other commenters, my only real question was why use a full image gradient instead of just adjusting the luminance range. But it is absolutely NOT a rhetorical question, I am sure you have your reasons. I’d just be interested in knowing them in more detail 😊
Thank you for this video, subscribing! On tip 8, where you used the brush to edit the shoe, you can alternatively use the object tool which may require less refinement.
Why you draw a mask in the entire picture with the gradient and then intersect with luminosity range (to remove dark parts) instead of just simply selecting highlights with the luminosity range?
that's a great idea, never thought of it, just always done it like this. Would that make the transition (gradient) from the shadows to highlights as smooth? That's what I'm after. I don't want a sharp edge on the highlights but a gradient decline of the mask from the shadows. That's what really sells the effect imo.
@@thaticelandicguy if you use the same luminance settings (the feathering and full intensity sliders) just simply inverted it should mathematically be the same. If they are not, well I would need to go full nerd on this because that does not make any sense to my brain😂
Hi, quite new to editing & loving your lr tutorials, I’m interested in your street photography preset but as I mainly photograph landscapes I’m wondering if the presets will work well with those?
Thank you for the tutorial. in the second tip, what is the advantage of intersecting linear field that covers the whole image with luminance mask instead of just using luminance mask?
I'm so happy I stumbled upon your channel via a post on Reddit: the way you explain masks is just so easy! Quick question: does everything you say also apply for Lightroom Mobile?
What people are sharing my stuff on Reddit? 😂 that’s awesome, do you by any chance remember the post? And yea the same principles apply to lr mobile, or I edit my mobile photos the same way pretty much.
Wonderful video!! Is there a way to add blur to lightroom images? Photoshop offers a variety of blur options but I haven't been able to find one in Lightroom. Cheers!!
Quite knowledgeable ...... could I know which editing software are you using here? Also I would be so happy if you could suggest me the best software for photo editing
you can also use the "duplicate and invert", related to tip 7. So create a mask for foreground, make it darker, right click on it, duplicate and invert and you have another one that is affecting the background, where you can modify and make it brighter.
The pro tip, is learn and really hone in on the skills of balancing light. All pro photos seem crystal clear, while those who aren't, don't have that crystal clear crisp look. whatever the theme and subject. Color balance and light. It's not tools, or tricks on how-to's. It's what all are looking for, but it has to be learned, not just fixed with a tool or one click or one slider. I guess no pro's want to reveal that =P
You are quite a UA-camr, can you tell me how if at all you can use layers in LR. I prefer LR but sometimes I have use PS. I do a lot of printing so I prefer LR
You are an artist of Lightroom no doubt on it but if you can show after your operation the before after effect it could be good to better understand your tip :). Thx in advance.
Hi. I love watching your videos and I find them very helpful. I just recently purchased the Sony a6700 and a SD V90 card. I'm having issues playing back the 10 bit 4k footage that I recorded on my computer. It is very choppy when I try to play it back. How do you view your 10 bit 4k Sony footage on your computer? I was hoping to be able to record in the highest 10 bit 4k quality but currently I can't play it without it being choppy so I really hope maybe you can help me.
does it have to do with the frame rate that it was recorded with? another suspicion is your computer is lacking either the necessary video codecs to play it, or the file is too heavy on your hardware and your computer is struggling to render the frames fast enough.
Masks are a game changer, ai auto select background and people and objects is total game changer. Maybe this video is too old but i notice it wasnt used for thr boot. Which being all yellow would maybe work well
