Had my old thorntail 1913 mount for a Long time. I put on so many different platforms from akm's to galil aces to ar15s and scar 17. and beat it to death that the only way it died is when I overtorqued the screws with to much ugga dugga. Then I sent a email to their customer service. They replaced the entire unit for free with free shipping.
That's solidified me as a permanent customer hands down. Great product. Great support. And great guy. Garand thumb is lucky to have a great dad! Lol.

I'm rocking a SIG-Sauer 556 with the old school "fish gill" handguards. I love them because of how lightweight they are, and that they afford me all of the pic rail that I actually need, but I do wish they had pic rail on top. I run a Streamlight ProTac HLX in the 6 o'clock position, partially because it has the aesthetic of the Gordon Carbine and/or the Blood Diamond carbine, but namely because putting the light in the 9 o'clock position causes the sling to get caught up on the light; this is because my sling mounting point is fore of the handguard. The tapeswitch is zip-tied to the top of the handguard. It's got a 1-6x LPVO with an ACSS reticle and a 100-yard zero, and is typically loaded with 55-grain 5.56, which is okay for a 1:7 twist barrel.
Make sure to C-clamp it hard, because it's very front-heavy!
16" 'recce rifle' it's set up for night shooting, and with the LEP light attached is capable of engaging targets out to 800m shooting 5.56, 69gr HPBT. The drop chart is taped to the stock, don't dial, just hold in the reticle. If you can count you can make hits.
It remains easier to swap accessories mounted to 1913 rails under adverse conditions, and that top rail mount sits exactly where I want my light that I just haven't been able to get using the MLOK slots.
I have a similar set up but in 14.5....since my LPVO is really for 55 grain and I run the same ammo as you (68 grain Frontier BTHP), I think Im going to do the same you do...very good idea!

Fun fact, the 1913 picatinny rail was invented by Dr. Pica-Tenni from MIT in 1913. It was submitted to the IS government for service but Benjamin Franklin famously quoted “Real Americans needs guns not choo choo trains.” thus the rail was never adopted for service wide use. 10:16

I bought the Mlok torntail and he does not work with Streamlight weapon lights the way you guys advertise. The body of the light covers the front mounting. Screw no way to torque it down.
