‘A clean conscience doesn’t make everything clean but it makes everything clear’. Profound.

I love the doctrine of vocations. It has helped me in my day to day life more than I can even explain! Thank you for the amazing content, Pastor Wolfmueller

Unless I’m mistaken, this is the emphasis behind James’ statement that we are justified by faith and works. This is not our justification before God, but before men. Does that sound right?

Read Luther’s “A Brief Exhortation to Confession” Do not despise private confession and holy absolution.

You’ve no idea how much I needed this today. Especially the part about the cartoon with the weapons pointed. What’s tricky is when that is happening to someone else is attacking you because they think you’re attacking them, your own (my own) overactive conscience tries to justify myself before these same people who lash out and I defend like I’ve done something wrong and as I take myself before the court of men trying to show the “counterattack” from the one with the bad conscience is unjust, I end up then sinning myself by trying to expose them and then I really have earned my bad conscience of my own. Devil is tricky. Thank God in Jesus Christ we have a reboot button every morning and can laugh off the ridiculousness of what we have been convinced we have to keep track of to keep score. (Who is more at fault? Who started it? Technically Adam… wait Eve… wait… the serpent…. See what I mean?)

Can works help lead to a good conscience insofar as we are avoiding sin?

Is vocations the same as Spiritual Gifts?

New Question: In general the pastor consecrates the holy communion. Are there circumstances (like pastor on vacation) where an elder or a non-ordained person can do that? Is there a difference in who can consecrate between different synods like LCMS and WELS?

      LCMS Perspective:
There no such thing as a emergency communion. In the back of our service books, there is a quick layman's version of baptism. Its intended for situations where a pastor is not around, and a immediate baptism is required. In contrast, we have no instructions for laity given communion. In fact, most members do not take communion until they are approximately 11 to 14 years old. While both are powerful sacraments, baptism has a role of bringing people into the church and Lord's Supper is for maintenance of faith. In extenuating circumstances where communion is limited, for instance the most recent pandemic, we do our best to keep the table open, but don't go so far as to delegate the responsibility for communion to the laity. This idea can further be explored through church resources such as the 1983 report on Theology and Practice of the Lord's Supper which states that "the role of the pastor in the sacramental life of the church should not be displaced. The opportunity to conduct a brief service of confession and absolution, to involve other family members in the private Communion, and to be a shepherd for the flock suggests that whenever possible the pastor will distribute the elements to the communicants".
