These COC truly get exponentially harder. Btw, the only thing that helped me repair my trigger finger was very hot water soaks. In fact, the manufacturers ratings are based on the rough weight required to close a gripper, if weight was to hang by a strap, in the *middle* of the gripper length. The real ratings he describes are the actual weight needed to close a gripper, if the weight is hung from the *end* of the gripper (where your pinky would be). So it doesn't really come out of thin air, but for the purposes of comparison and sales, the larger number taken from the middle weight hang is taken

So at a shot put meet in college world champion Christian Cantwell was there. A 6'5, 340lb guy, absolutely massive. And the meet was starting but Cantwell's coach couldn't find him anywhere. He looked around and started asking people around him, like where did this kid go. But then Carl Myerscough moved out of the way, and Cantwell had been standing behind him.
Also, apparently Carl would do shot put exercises with the 35lb weight throw ball. This dude's hands simply do not belong to a human lol

That gripper has a rating tag of 220. If it was done by Cannon PowerWorks, it's worth noting that the average Captains of Crush #4 gripper has a CPW rating of 214 and the most common rating (the mode) is 212. So, statistically, this gripper is about 3 to 4% harder than other #4 grippers. Also, by all the earlier 'squeaking' that can be heard during his reps with the other grippers, it's apparent that none of these springs have been oiled. Unoiled springs full of chalk dust would add additional resistance as well.

Larry, in so many sports, little advantages (and disadvantages) accrue to certain athletes. In bench pressing with the 32" legal grip limit, big Jim Williams' (675 lbs. in early 70s) bench presses looked almost close grip, then some tiny guy/gal benches where it appears super wide using the same width. In deadlifting, a guy who can pull like you, really big weights, gets a bit of bar bend to better break it off the floor. In Olympic lifting, the high-end bars oscillate more after a superheavyweight shoulders the weight after a squat clean. Same overhead after a jerk where it makes keeping elbows locked more of an issue. You get the idea. Here on CoC's? This man has huge grip power . . . and his big advantage not available to everyone? Big hands to grab the grippers with a more favorable position. Good video!!!

Carl is a true beast. I don't know how much money he made when he competed and won world records. But that just goes to say that if u got the will power and put your mind into something, you can make money from nothing. Now personally speaking, a grip or arm wrestling competition isn't MMA UFC or pro footballer or soccer or basketball, you can't propose to a girl and impress her father with a resume of monster grip 😅, but as Carl put it (he's realistic and was smart about it), it's just a personal goal a you vs you and what I'd like to call self-help or self-development brain power tool. For me, my goal is 225lbs, and I get there with mind over matter and brain power and proper breathing technique..arriving at 225lbs of grip strength, 6 minutes of holding breath (I'm at 5 now), 150 pushups in one go (I'm at 100 now), 2000 elo rating at chess (I'm at 1800 now) are all coping mechanisms for me due to life's struggles whether my past demons or status quo, but say some company offered to sponsor me in any of the above and saw potential in me then I'm onnoard, however I don't consider any of the above a real world sport, feel me, just a coping mechanism in my eyes

I'm a shorter guy at 5'6", 170 pounds, and have been a lifetime natural weight training for about 47 years. I have small hands which is a detriment to training with grippers even though I do train 2 times per week by just doing 4 or 5 sets just to maintain some semblance of strength in the hands. When younger I was pretty strong, benching 405, squatting 525 with a bad back since surgically repaired in 1998. I got the 150-pound dumbbells for 4 on flat bench and did dips with 150s. Having said that, we used to have the COC 1, 2, 3 and 4 with a couple halfs -1.5, 2.5. The most I've gotten is a 2. I may have been able to get the 2.5, or close, but never really used that one. For shits and giggles I tried the 4 at the gym one day years ago. It was like trying to close a rock. I couldn't budge it. Anyone who can close a #4 COC has the power to break every bone in your hand. The feat is unbelievable. That anyone is able to do a 3 is remarkable, never mind a 3.5 or 4.
