@@shar the first video I watched was "here comes the boy". Subscribed immediately. Your voice is beautiful. Your art is beautiful. Your lessons are incredible. You are so awesome, I am going to SCREAM!
19:16 wow, seeing them all together in a sequence really hits differently. The underwater one is my fave, both for uniqueness but also how well it turned out
Oh my gosh! Shar just dropped a new video😃😃!!! You are so talented and your animations are so gorgeous!!!!😊😊 I loved watching this in the morning! Perfect start to my day!!
a tip for animating hair in slow breezes: make the hair go in different dirrections at different speeds! hair doesnt really move evenly, some strands are gonna move faster than others. idk how to explain it lol. just imagine seaweed in the ocean, its all moving at different times even tho its in the same current. love ur video btw❤❤❤ ur animations always look so nice and soft eeee
Here's a little animation tip I followed when I did my demo: straight ahead!! since hair has an unpredictable movement to it (especially in faster winds), drawing the hair frame by frame can give off a nice natural look to it and make the hair have a nice flow. to avoid making the hair look wonky as you animate frame by frame, you could draw the base of the overall hairshape, and then animate on top of it in another layer. I hope that helps (my demo is up on my community tab to see what I mean!!)
I'm animating something totally different than what you're explaining, but your voice is so calming! And I love listening to other artists talk about their experiences so I can use it! I love this and will use it as a reference like, all the time!
There is something surreal and calming that this just seems like this is a tired collage person with a hobby. I feel like I know you even though I’ve never seen you before, like a friend I haven’t seen in years. Keep up the good work btw!
i really like the underwater shar doodle at 4:36 and the applause at 19:17! thank you for making this it was very interesting to watch and learn how you do things!
Hi! I’ve been watching your content for the last 3 years,(a few months after your second video lol). Your art style and the way you color has really inspired me to start making art for fun rather than making it a grueling process, you really got me into art with your soft color pallets and great expressions! I wanted to start animating but it sounded a little challenging! Then the series started coming out, and it absolutely blew me away!!! This series is what really tied me over to start animating for fun!!! PS your voice is so soothing omg!!!
Yessss Shar gas posted. Tysm for showing us how animation works. I really appreciate the playlist with all your other how to do animation videos as well. And showing us how the factors that go into animating hair is very important and the impact depending on what you do is amazing ❤❤❤
i always WANT to animate along but honestly, just listening to shar’s soothing voice and reading the little notes with doodles and such makes me feel smarter, artsy, and comforted :) love ur art shar!! thanks for sharing your process with us silly youtube people
I haven’t tried animating before, but I’m excited to use this for hair inspiration in my static drawings! I struggle with how to break down hair shapes and make sure the hair has weight. This is an excellent reference for that!!
Hi Shar :) The way you approached this (especially the animation combined with math idea?? lol) and the final animations are so cool! I find it motivating! Thank you for sharing your process, paired with explications I can understand. 🧠💨🤓
Your videos are so inspiring!! Even though I went to an art school, I was never specifically taught 2d animation, so I am completely self taught as well. It's so motivating to see your work and progress!! Love your stuff and I was so excited to get a notification for a new video :]
Here is an alternative tip: If you are thinking of each clump of hair as a seperate "ribbon" a fun way to animate it, is to animate that "ribbon" stright ahead on the sketch layer. You could also, Depending on the style, Do this during the final line art phase insead, or sketch layer if you wanna take your time to make sure its good. do this for each Ribbon allows you to keep track of each Ribbons weight and speed. side note: Favorite thing to animate is hair going from perfectly stylized, to blowing in the wind so violently that it all becomes one giant flowing hair peice. Hair is fun to draw and animate
This is soothing to listen to, and it's really beginner-friendly, too. (Also: I like scientific explanations for how things move! Don't apologize for science, it's neat!!) I mostly just listen passively to your videos to take a break from other things, but they make me want to give animation a try. Even if it's just to make something very simple and short. Thank you for this series!
I really love this little series and it's been really helpful. I've been wanting to animate for a really long time and the way you break down each step makes it so easy to follow and easy to learn!! I'm curious about the way you animate expressions and would love to see a video about it someday!!! (call it a contrast from how the character remained expresionless in this video lol)
I don’t know how to animate and I don’t think I’ll plan to but your tutorials are very calming and I love watching your work and the work of the many other animators in this community!
Thanks for all the animation advice Shar! You really are a master at your craft. Hope you aren't trying to push yourself to publish more videos this year. It's nice to see you uploading stuff more frequently, but try not to work too hard! 💚
Underwater hair reminds me of how they shot the "Samwise underwater" in The Lord of the Rings. What they did was film Sean Astin in front of green screen with a fan blowing upward, at a high frame rate. This way when it's played back, the upward flow of air looks really slow, like the character is underwater. It might be inaccurate, but it was a really good way to sell the shot.
Oh Man I Truly Do Enjoy Watching Your Videos So Chilll It’s A Vibe, Just Recently I’ve Been Trying To Get Back Into Drawing Again So When I’m Happy With My Art Style Perchance I Will Start Trying Some Animation For Fun
I don’t have the energy to animate along with you but in all honesty this series gives me motivation to do things like get a bit of a drawing done or work on a fanfiction I’m writing or any other creative project I’m working on. Motivation is difficult for me to get a hold of so this series is really good for me! And maybe when I do have energy to animate I will watch this series, though I still take in the information..!
i'm glad to hear it motivates u in some way!! i kind of intend for the videos to feel like we are just hanging out HAHA so i'm happy to hear that it's how you enjoy it:)
