I hope she gets through it. This is a bad time for drugs. Not saying they were ever good, but people are dying in record numbers. I died and they were about to call it but thank God they hit me with a 4th Narcan. I been off since, but I am on Suboxone. It helps with the strong cravings, and it won't kill me.

Can't stand what he did with the whole pantera thing but everyone is human, we all fuck up and Phil is living proof of that. I helped my brother get off heroin , methadone, and fetanyl. I did this by getting him the hell out of Cincinnati when that shit was running rampant around that area. A close friend of mine who we went to school with that I consider like a brother to me also struggled with addiction to that shit and meth, I supported him during his lowest points and through being there for him, even though I couldn't be there in person, my moral support eventually played a role in him quitting those drugs. Now he's trying to get his life back on track and he keeps me posted on how things are going. Even though I'm not sure if he'll read this comment, I love you Adam. I can. I detoxed in jail off methadone and fentonol. Praying for death. 14 days of the worst withdrawal I ever went thru. And that's was just the fetonol. As someone who is currently trapped using pain killers for chronic pain, the worst part for me is that they don't even get me high anymore. (Yes, I abused them also to get high). It's the horrific sickness of trying to get off them. So I take the drugs and it all goes away, but the drugs themselves make my brain turn to mush and I barely function. Shout out to everyone battling this evil. 'Quitting' is no where near as easy as people think. You can even suffer withdrawals from anti depressants like mirtazapine, benzos etc. I've lost so much weight from it and feel weak as hell all the time. As an addict who knows a thousand more, I realize a lot of us consider being on methadone and other replacement therapies "clean and sober" but in my humble opinion it definitely isn't. Methadone easily has more negative side effects than heroin or an other opioid and it's way harder to kick.

I have detoxed from all sorts of opiates, but methadone was the most horrendous detox I have ever been through. I made it to almost 3 months before I couldn't take it anymore and that day I was at a dentist appointment and had a cracked tooth that required surgery and 2 weeks of antibiotics. The dentist was super generous with the percocet 10mg pills. He gave me 240 of them to get me through the month wait for an oral surgeon. I wiped them out in 2 weeks and the cycle started all over again. That was in 2005. I had been on painkillers for a year at that time. Like Phil, I had a pretty severe back injury in my 20's. Up to that point, I had always been very anti-pill, anti-opiate, etc. I had seen what happens when you go down that road. But I was so miserable, I started taking them anyway. I figured, I've educated myself, I know the pitfalls, I know what I'm doing. 22 years later, I'm 7 years clean from Fentanyl patches, and 2 years off of methadone . I'm a lot happier, even though I'm divorced and broke, I'm alive and not a slave. Kicking fentanyl cold turkey is the worst. You'd better be pretty fucking hard because it will break you if you're not. But it can be done. Methadone is rough to kick because it takes a long time. Fentanyl takes longer and is 10 times worse. When I was addicted to fentanyl, there was no illicit fentanyl on the street. I would sweat the patches off, run out early, and be desperate to cop something to keep me upright, as I worked full-time and had to function. Fentanyl being so strong, it took a lot of Roxicodone, Dilaudid, or even heroin to just feel ok. All in all, it's a fucking nightmare being a junkie. I managed to not get arrested, killed, or even discharged by my Dr., but I lost everything. And I'm lucky. I'm still alive and not a convicted felon. Take advice from people who have been there and don't follow our path. But, if you're like me, and have to find out on your own, it's not ever too late to reach out for help. I'm sure that like myself, Mr. Anselmo could tell you hours of horror stories about that life. But neither he, nor myself, could truly convey what you will go through. It isn't worth it. Plus, it's boring. I forget who said it, but a fairly famous jazz musician once said "It's boring as hell being a junkie. You've got to get off of that shit to see just what a crazy motherfucker you really are!" We have a lot of fire inside of us, but hard drugs just smother it. It doesn't make you a better musician, a wiser person, or improve your life in any way. In fact, I was atounded at how much my musical ability exploded after getting clean. I was sure I couldn't play guitar anymore without a skin full of opiates. I was wrong. And, my back pain is better managed with ibuprofen, than fentanyl. Go figure.

@@humanipulationnation LARGE doses of Immodium. I had a heroin dependency for most of my adult life. Nearly 30 years. And I was one of the special breed of sorry sacks of shit who never stopped using the street shit when I got on methadone so I piggybacked the junk on top of the juice for 11 years. VERY EXPENSIVE - so I spent many consecutive days a week waaay undermedicated OFTEN. To get through those periods with some semblance of comfort I would take 32 immodium tablets in the morning, 12 tablets at 2:30pm and 18 tablets before going to bed. Yes, I could sleep through the night. Every night for several days following that same immodium dosing. I relied on this scheme for years when I couldn't get the street shit and I was out of methadone. Use the generic tiny tablets and NOT the brand name gel caps. Drink lots of water. Of course any Benzos will really help you get through dope sickness and nothing is better than Phenobarbital but I don't know if they even make that stuff anymore. I'm sure there's plenty of info online about the immodium remedy. I wouldn't go by my dosages - you need to figure out the least amount that works for you but I'm telling you I got through HUNDREDS of days and nights using nothing but immodium when I normally used 180mgs of methadone and 20+ bags of junk a day. I could get through 5 consecutive days of withdrawal comfortably using large immodium doses. Sleep EVERY night.

I had to oust that person from my life because I just couldn't handle my house getting smashed up any more. Here's the weird thing... to this day I can spot a user instantly. There are a lot of high-functioning users doing business, going through life, and I can see in a millisecond that they likely did a little bump of something an hour prior. There's just something about the speech patterns. Repetition of statements comes to mind. I can't explain it.

The vast majority of you can't understand this man. You can't because you have no idea what chronic pain is like year after year and still having to perform daily tasks and work. Pain changes you! At a point of no one helping you doctor after doctor, you are finished and will escape it however, you're just done and NOBODY understands you. You can't even dream of passing judgement on this man if you haven't experienced everything I just said.

The anxiety of not getting your next fix, is pure hell. The not knowing if you'll even get it or not. I had the same issue with Weed. Anytime I was without it, pure panic attacks. Took a while to get out fo that loop, its different for everybody, for me it was that dang plant. It could all be solved if it was federally legalized.

Phillip, your candor is so much appreciated. Thanks for always being so upfront in interviews and especially in an important interview like this one. Thanks Loudwire-Clips for doing this! I am a former Meth-head. I quit smoking methamphetamine in 2006 after 1000 days straight of some of the best and the absolute worst times of my life. I feel like I threw away my youth by doing that but I kicked the hell out of meth in an instant and in one decision. I joined the US Air Force and had no other choice but to turn away and run to freedom from that shit. I got lucky I didn't have hardcore withdrawal. I had other things on my mind at the time: Basic Training. Haha! I served 6 years (2A773) and haven't ever looked back to those drug times in my young days except for the lessons and friends that I made. Say NO to hard drugs. Shit's not worth it and your mind and body will be the one to rudely interrupt your "good time" by letting you know you are slowly dying and dying fucking hurts.

I was addicted to a pain drug here in Scotland called tramadol after breaking my ankle. I got to the point i was buying them off of people because my prescription wasn't cutting it then i was watching phils University interview. To say that guy light a fire under my arse is an understatement! What followed was all i can describe as the cold turkey scene in Trainspotting. EVERY uncomfortable memory i had came to me in waves. Phil said something in that uni interview that stuck in my brain that he said he had made a persona that he was stronger than all, self confident basically the mantra of Vulger display of power and had to keep up the facade. Well! When he said that i REPEATEDLY played Vulger... EVERY FUCKING DAY until that shit was out of me. And guess what? It fucking worked.

The physical withdrawal from Tramadol is the easy part. Use to love 100mg retards. I could strip a roof at 3am. So much energy. Eventually I came to the conclusion that the buzz was not worth the price. 1 year of mental agony to get off that stuff and still suffer from Anxiety and depression. That stuff alters your mind permanently. The 3 days of shakes and sweats are nothing.
