    These videos are superlative in their production: the beautiful shots at 05:54 and the closing zoom out of the watch in its box, plus the narrative delivered with such ease. The fact that he does these for himself and not to grow a channel is I think the best part.

    You hit the nail on the head: I owned an Aqua Terra before (the previous 8500 version) and it ended up not being worn much BECAUSE it was too "in the middle". I much prefer spending time on the opposite sides of the spectrum with sport and dress watches. But with that said, the AT is still my most recommended watch for those sane people who only want 1-2 watches in their life.

    • @stuartcole4845
      @stuartcole4845 2 роки тому +3

      It absolutely could be the one watch which could do everything from the beach to the boardroom. I would probably recommend the person also get something like a Casio G-Shock or Duro for those times you know you’re going to be in a situation which could put your AT at risk. 😀

    • @NippleSauce
      @NippleSauce 2 роки тому +3

      Agreed. But I'm starting to steer away from all of the major brands as they're starting to make their sports watches as glistening/shiny and sparkly as their dress watches.
      I'm leaning more towards a few lesser known brands (with products that give more utility/function whilst still looking nice) and I'm (surprisingly) quite enjoying my shift in watch preference. I have a Sinn U50 S Blue model arriving this upcoming Autumn =D.

    The two things you have to remember about the thickness of Omegas versus say, their Rolex counterparts. 1. A display caseback will always add around 1mm to the thickness and; 2. Their current base movement architecture of having twin mainspring barrels is going to take up more horizontal realestate on one layer of the movement, meaning that this will usually require an increase in verticality.
    But this twin barrel architecture certainly has its benefits - you get an increased power reserve without having to decrease the thickness and there robustness of each spring (Eg. Tudor, Rolex). Running them in parallel also means that as power is released, the movement maintains a much more consistent amplitude (and therefore accuracy) as the torque differential between the movement at full power reserve vs depleted power reserve is decreased.
    But as you stated, thinness is clearly not Omegas focus otherwise a very quick win would be to have no exhibition case back, like Rolex, but I much prefer to be able to see their beautiful movements.

      It is also 15 times more resistant to magnetic fields than the Milgauss, which is already 13 mm thick.

    • @TurnRiver
      @TurnRiver 2 роки тому +9

      Omegas look better with a little thickness. The case design makes the watches appear less thick than say a slab sided Tudor.

    • @stuartcole4845
      @stuartcole4845 2 роки тому +9

      @@TurnRiver Absolutely. Even if an Omega is the same thickness as a Tudor, the slab sided Tudor will always wear thicker. Omega always seems to aim for the “rule of thirds” - 1/3 for case back, 1/3 for the mid case and 1/3 for the top case and bezel. It really visually breaks up the height.

    Just came across your channel after looking for Monta videos. I can confidently say this is my new favourite watch channel! The voiceover and video style feels more like a minidocumentary series than video reviews.
    Oh there's a certain raw-ness to your script that doesn't feel whitewashed or 'trying to please the brands', making it come across more genuine. Or maybe I just like the sass thrown in throughout the video.

    I agree 100% with all your stated benefits and flaws of the watch. If I had to get rid of every watch in my collection except for one, I'd keep the AT. More lume, a thinner case, and microadjust on the metal bracelet (mine's on the rubber strap so less important) would make this the king of the 'one watch collection' genre of watches in my opinion.

    I owned a black version of this exact AT as well in the past, also on the rubber. And I can agree to all of your points! It's a damn versatile watch but imho it's way to thick what just bothered me long term. I also didn't feel the need to pull this off because I always had 'more fitting' timepieces for the day. I guess I'm just to deep into the hobby what makes such a great everyday watch like the AT obsolete. But my main concerns with the watch were the hard to grip crown (Omega is guilty of that on pretty much every Master Chronometer watch!) as well as the combination of plane hour and arrow minute hands. In total these are just little details but if you sum it up it was enough for me to finally sell the piece. But if these things are nothing you may complain about it's an awesome watch and definitely one of the best allrounders at this price point!

  • @turbohusque

    I went in to buy a Planet Ocean, and walked out with the AT. Every facet of the indices is beveled so it catches the light, and the whole dial just sparkles with seemingly no crystal at all. I was dismissive of the rubber strap but it just looks and feels so natural. I didn't take it off for a month after I got it. It was my first Omega, and now I have that Planet Ocean on their black & orange striped NATO and this, and I have a hard time deciding which one to wear. Also, I financed the AT at 10% off and 18 months No Interest.

I really like the 1/3 back 1/3 case 1/3 bezel side profile that is rounded. It’s kinda a vintage nod to me and just looks “right” for some reason to me. I also really like this version. I like my watches a little louder but I like them loud yet understated in a way that I can show it off but get away with it in any situation. Hard to explain but I hope that’s coming across right. Definitely a successful campaign by omega-swatch moon watch. Now lots of channel features omega watches. Which in the past year, omega have even overtaken by cartier.

    So i bought the watch on a bracelet (41mm, Slate dial, blue hands) with the intention to buy the rubber strap. The AD quoted me CAD$1,010 for the lot (strap, endlink, clasp). If I wanted the bracelet, it would've been $1,025.
    I think this is the rare occasion where buying the rubber would be the financially better idea.

      Yes, and this is rarely mentioned.
      The 'Always-Buy-on-Bracelet' rule doesn't apply with the AT. Get what you'll wear.

    So your wrist is 7 inches or 18cm, but how many yards is it?
    I don't know about the Aqua Terra, it sounds and looks like the perfect watch but yet it feels like something is... missing. Maybe I'm like you, broken. - Han

    You think the modest upcharge for the bracelet is a steal, until you go to the Omega boutique to buy a new OEM rubber strap to learn the strap is $250, the clasp is another $250, and the little steel pieces "in the middle at the end" that "look good" are $90 EACH, so yeah that simple rubber strap ends up being $680 pre-tax 🤯

    I love the looks of these... just wish the great diver clasp w/macro-adj was an option as a bracelet for these. That weird butterfly clasp SUX for a watch like this when they already have a very nice clasp available on many of their divers. Probably why I keep looking at these watches but never buying one. I want a White dialed Milguass so bad it's crazy... but crazy is what the prices are on those and I'll likely never own one. The white dialed Aqua Terra would be a suitable replacement for that Milgauss... if only the clasp was better.

    Can the rubber strap be micro adjusted at all, or are you stuck using only the existing holes in the rubber strap?

      @@jasonm.8749 My apologies, no micro adjustments. I am sure there are others, but the only rubber strap with micros that I am aware of is the Oris Aquis. It is very comfortable.

    As to the luminescence issue that you mentioned, I truly do not understand why Rolex, Omega et al, do not offer Tritium indices. Am I being crass? With the manufacturing technologies that these companies are well suited to afford, the capsules should be able to be made to fit any shape of index, even the standard 18k gold type in a Rolex. The Tritium would be unnoticeable until dark. Unless it was a feature of some platinum Day Date Presidential hoo haa thing that I couldn't afford, I would go out of my way to get one. 12 year half life on Tritium? So, in twenty years, rebuild it.
    It has been an ubiquitous feature of gun sights for years with no issues.
