OK maybe that saves you 8k; but you'll need new ones inside of 5 years. So you are down to 30k. Cheaper brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, electronics - OK now you have a cheap ass chinese like car that is junk; but maybe with $7500 subsidy can count fuel savings; you can get it down to 16k - Chinese formula for junk.

Maybe there will be a model 2 by it won't be $16k unless they give it a 40 mile range or sodium batteries? Right now the cheapest Tesla if you don't count federal subsidies is $42,000. How could one possibly cheap it down to 16k - without massive subsidies? Cheap interior? OK maybe that saves 4k; and sodium batteries? OK maybe that saves you 8k; but you'll need new ones inside of 5 years. So you are down to 30k. Cheaper brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, electronics - OK now you have a cheap ass chinese like car that is junk; but maybe with $7500 subsidy can count fuel savings; you can get it down to 16k - Chinese formula for junk.

@@adamtech999 how is casting going to save any significant amount? These cars are weldedby robots. Labor savings? Very few hours of labor are spent on a modern factory car; maybe if you are talking about a Rolls Royce.
Tesla should offer an EV that does not have things like FSD, Tesla should just offer a basic EV with only the battery management system, a range of 600 miles in all temperatures, a 5 to 10 minute charge time to 100% with out battery degradation and a level 0 or level 1 system. I don’t care to have a limited range EV that takes too long to charge, loses up to 50% range in cold temperatures and has level 2,3,4,5 systems. Too much of a P.I.T.A.
