Lockdown on England's Canals - Parole Day

- Oh yes, the day many feared would never come, finally arrived a few days ago - the simple pleasure of being able to navigate ones own boat, along the canals of England (Wales & Scotland are yet to follow suit).
To celebrate, I take a cruise for the day (overnight stops not yet allowed) northwards, along the Lancaster Canal, from my mooring at Garstang Marina, to Bridge 75 and the Winding Hole there.
On the way, I briefly recall the worries of lockdown, as well as marvel at the spectacular scenery, weather, and how the entire experience of travelling along the canals, now feels 'new' again.
After turning round, I moor up shortly afterwards and as well as enjoying a refreshing cuppa tea, I read another viewer's letter - from a fan of Travels by Narrowboat who it would appear, is also a mega RUSH fan - rather like myself.

My wife, Joanne, and I recently discovered you via Amazon Prime just a couple of months ago during the middle of our lock down here in the United States. I posted on another video how much we love to watch your show, and now we found you on UA-cam.
Now, present day in the U.S., we're in the midst of nightly newscast filled with alarm and dread. However, we have a soothing recourse by watching your series on Amazon. We started season 3 last night, and the news was so bad yesterday that I said to my wife, "we need to watch two episodes tonight".
Seriously, Kevin, I can't describe the power you're beautiful episodes have to effect calmness in our lives.

How do I begin? I saw that you'd uploaded a video and figured I'd give it a watch before bed. I reclined and readied myself for a quick update from you. Instead what I got was a lovely and unexpected gift. I felt the weight of the past 10 insane weeks lifting with each chug of Aslan's engine. And the ducks. And the cows. And the scenic photos. And your chipper disposition. And the other boaters. And the TROOPER reference! And then Rush! When you let out that lip-flapping exhale, I felt the misery of the last weeks exiting my laden mind. At the end of this video, I was awash in much-needed seratonin. Did you ever dream you would mean this much to so many? It is sincerely good to see you again, man. Thanks for what you do.

It's just so soothing for me to watch these videos. I long for the day that my husband and I might be able to take a vacation for a couple of weeks on a narrowboat. I fear I won't want to leave! The beauty of those canals and the history are mesmerizing to me. Thanks for sharing your trip!

What a great way to start my morning!!! Watching this video and listening to your commentary gives me the reassurance that all will be right with the world once again, eventually.... it also occurred to me watching this, after countless hours consuming other vlogs from the Cut to keep a shred of sanity ( I’d exhausted all of yours.long ago!), that I was reminded that ASLAN is just about the finest looking vessel I’ve seen anywhere on the canals! She has very clean lines, a lovely color scheme, and a generally sweet and understated personality, underscored by that wonderfully sounding diesel..... like countless others here, I am thrilled to see you both underway once again, and I am a bit more at peace within at last...

CountryHouseGent I also *really* like your bedroom layout. Does it sleep well, with the seams between the mattresses?
My personal dream layout would be an extra long bed along the long axis (because across the width there just isn’t enough room in a narrowboat - my current bed is 220 cm long, and I don’t want to have it much shorter, but a narrowboat from gunwale to gunwale is no more than 213cm, never mind insulation and such.) but that has extra width in a Murphy bed layout like yours does.

Currently watching while sat in my van eating a nice steak pie and drinking a home-made slush thanks to the chiller unit. I've worked right through this so-called lock down and have never seen the delivery side of retail so busy! I think i'm what you would refer to as a 'gongloozler' but blimey have I missed my walks down the footpaths. Great to hear that engine again! Stay safe all.

Yeeha the escape, great to see you and Aslan back out and about. I do like the extra camera positions and really like the still pictures. If you do happen to do a travels to Bangkok as per that suggestion, I live there most of the year, and would be happy to show you around. You might need a permit to film, and best if doing a video to maybe hire an official guide. However Bangkok has loads of canals and you can get boat trips for just yourselves as required. Plus in the UK winter, it is lovely and warm aka hot here.

Nice to see you finally out and about and on my Home Canal too.
I lived at Garstang marina 2003-4 on a Norman 23 called Gingernut's with it's 42 miles of no locks. Then in 2005 I had a 45 foot narrow boat built and traveled down to London and back, before building a replica submarine in 2010 for my 30th birthday and traveling across the country to Leeds, where I opened it as a Submarine museum. I now live in Blackpool and miss the life so much, but I'm a bit too ill for it now. All the best and hope you can get back to your journey soon, Mon Captain..

So satisfying to see you once more on the water, with Aslan's engine chugging her reliable rhythm -- such beautiful weather for your day trip! Hope to see much more in the coming months...I was able to grow to a fairly advanced age without any knowledge of the canals of the UK -- until discovering Travels by Narrowboat, that is. As per your reference above, do anticipate you and Aslan making forays up to Scotland in the future, consistent with your own wishes and schedule...
Dolphins in Queensland Australia miss people so much they have been leaving gifts of coral and sea sponges near a cafe where they used to interact with people. Animals miss us too.
