German PzH 2000 - 155mm Self-Propelled Howitzer : Overview
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- Development of the PzH 2000 (Panzerhaubitze) began in 1987. It evolved from the international SP70 programme, which was cancelled in 1980s due to funding problems. Prototype of the PzH 2000 was completed in 1993. Initially German Army planned to order a total of 1 254 new self-propelled howitzers, however in 1996 a contract was signed only for 185 artillery systems. First systems were delivered to the German Army in 1998. Export operators of the PzH 2000 are Croatia (12), Greece, Italy and the Netherlands. In 2013 Qatar ordered 24 of these howitzers.
The PzH 2000 is fitted with a 155-mm / L52 howitzer. Vehicle has a fully-automatic loading system with ammunition management system. The PzH 2000 is compatible with standard NATO 155-mm ammunition. Maximum range of fire is 30 km with standard HE-FRAG projectile and 40 km with rocket-assisted projectile. Maximum rate of fire is 9 rounds per minute. It is capable of Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) firing. A total of 60 rounds are stowed in a magazine.
Secondary armament consists of a roof-mounted 7.62-mm machine gun.
The PzH 2000 receives target data via datalink. The gun is automatically laid using the fire control data.
Front armor of the PzH 2000 provides protection against 14.5-mm rounds. All-round protection is against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. Explosive reactive armor can be fitted if necessary. The PzH 2000 is also fitted with automatic fire suppression and NBC protection systems.
The PzH 2000 has a crew of five, including commander, gunner, two loaders and driver. Target engagements can be carried out by a crew of two men. Loaders are employed only when autoloader fails.
Chassis of the PzH 2000 uses some components of the Leopard 2 main battle tank. Vehicle is powered by the MTU MT881 Ka-500 supercharged diesel engine, developing 1 000 hp. The PzH 2000 is also fitted with auxiliary power unit, powering all systems, when the main engine is turned off.
The PzH 2000 is reloaded by two operators. Projectiles are automatically picked up from the back of the vehicle and stowed in the autoloader's magazine. This self-propelled howitzer is replenished in less than 12 minutes.
Hope you enjoy!

Matsimus Gaming Can an artillery gun be used as a tank destroyed,
and can a normal tank be used as an artillery gun?
*destroyer
The PzH2000 can be used in "direct fire", yes. It's an emergency solution , tho.
Normal MBT can not be used as artillery pieces, as they lack the gun-movement range aswell as the needed artillery computers to actually hit something.
Very much an emergency solution. I don't think they even make 155mm HEAT rounds, much less KE penetrators. OTOH, a 155mm HE can probably flip a tank, if it lands close enough, which gives you a mission kill.
Matsimus .... whos pic is it at 11:32 and 12:17 ???
finally ferdinand got his turret rotation
I thought it was only forward firing and then the second clip started.
And auto loader system
Best thing about the Panzerhaubitze is the fact that it looks like a Ferdinand on steroids
It has a fully traversable turret, that's a huge advantage.
No shit sherlock :V it's also a spg not a ctd...
A MAUS :D
axised001 pzh 2000 should be a tank destroyer. WTLeo2A5
what's fun is that in february this year the crews trained direct fire with it.
the fire control system can also shoot multiple rounds in different arches so that 4-5 shells hit at the same time. 5 vehicles can deliver the same amount of shells like 25 vehicles in a single strike.
Remind me to stop making fun of Germans :)
most modern artilety can do that
einar some can, most can't. I didn't say the pzh2000 was the only spg capable of mrsi I thought it was worth to mention since its a cool feature.
MRSI (multiple rounds single impact) is indeed the new normal with the Archer, AS-90 and Crusader (could have, it if would have ;-) ) being able to do it. BTW: can you do a film about the AMSO ?
Mofo Jojo MRSI = Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact. TOT= Time On Target.
lets camouflage our artillery with branches... and put huge colorful flag on top of it. Why I love Lithuania.
Zulikas69 lithuanian flag is invisible to enemys
It was first howitzer delivered to Lithuanian army so they made a small celebration by firing first round
it gives time to run , while enemy wonders what flag is that :O
xD
wwwelkam They only buy 21 0_o
"Die Artillerie kennt weder Freund noch Feind, nur lohnende Ziele!"
Artillery knows neither friend nor foe, only tempting targets. :)
strange that you haven't mentioned one of its most outstanding features: MRSI (multiple rounds simultaneous impact). It can fire a volley of 5 rounds while the barrel is lowered after every shot. All 5 shots impact at the same time on target.
That's AWESOME
"Oh man! I'm so glad these artillery pieces aren't like shotguns! Otherwise we'd be toast!" -Famous last words.
@@MidnightSvn not if you are on the receiving end
I was US Army Artillery 13E FDC but man I know my 13B would love this howitzer. Automatic loading I think this is the best self propelled howitzer out right now. GREAT JOB GERMANY!!!
Given how OP it is I'm pretty sure this thing will be nerfed in the next patch.

Zero Chill you overpride yourself so much that it seems like croatia made them.

Yeah.....not really dumbass.
@sada das Right, now go and clean another toilet in London, please.
has anyone seen croatians doing mrsi training with those things? i haven't... it would be a waste of its beautiful potential.

These are gorgeous, and the rate of fire is insane. 👌
Still hoping for the Archer system to be featured, amazing specialized artillery piece!
Lithuania and Croatia have purchased 21 and 15 systems respectively (some of the footage is actually showing them). Amazing machine. Oh and really great video. I've been checking every single PzH 2000 video on UA-cam and yours is the best and most informative one. Good job.
@@kristijansusnik1297 ok commie
Just look at the commet of urban dweller. How many timea he mentions the sams shit. He is probably a lil spoiled croat. Oooo ive been checking every videonof pzh ooo like who the fuck cares
@@kristijansusnik1297 Be silent kid. We would crush you like shallow stream. You should be happy that Croats fought against JNA otherwise you would be defeated. Only because of Croatia presence JNA actions lasted in slo so short because they had to retreat to prepare attack on Croatia.
I have seen one of these before, and it was an absolute BEAST! I've always had a love for self-propelled artillery.
For everyone wondering what the little white crosses on German vehicles are, they are called "Leitkreutz" and are meant for driving in convoy at night.
You better won't attack one...
They can fight like a normal Tank on emergency situations! That means they can directly fire with the 155.
Imagine being on the oppsite side of the Pzh2000 thinking "its just artillery no need to initiate" but then it turns his turret
But then it doesn't fire AP. If you are a decently armoured MBT, you should survive it.
@@Sedna063 They always fire with maximum charge when applying direct fire. It packs some really badass punch. Look for the video "Panzerhaubitze mutiert zum gefährlichen Kampfpanzer" on youtube, it has english subtitles. You can see an old tank blown to flakes of metal ofter a few direct hits...
@@BeneStarosta I have seen the video. I still doubt that they could take out a modern MBT - the video showcased a Leopard 1 which has a weak armour profile. Against Leopard 2, a 155 HE shrapnel won't do that much
@@Sedna063 Shrapnel is not the factor is, concussion is. A 155mm high velocity HE round will fuck even the most protected tank up, as it will stun the crew and play havoc an all instruments within. Even without a penetration you really do not want on the recieving end of such a round.
It is very possible to mission kill an enemy tank with the first round, even without outright destroying it.
One of the important advantages of the PzH 2000 is with it's design of ammunition storage and the lever type loader where the ammo is vertical most of the time. The gun barrel doesn't need to be depressed to load. If you look at the AS 90 and Palladin, they both have to lower the gun from a high elevation to re-load. Wastes time and lowers accruacy. The PzH 2000 just stays on target and fires.
FANTASTIC MACHINE WELL DONE THE GERMANS ; ))))) FROM THE UK
Great reaction. Thanks mate.
love to you from Germany!
Croatia purchased 16 of these bad-boys from Germany, I do think its a great investment. I hope we also get some 100 or so of their Leopard 2 Tanks - the British challenger 2 is just way too expensive.
Bro are you 11 year old. Croatia is shit
@@kristijansusnik1297 they just fought for and won their independence from the communists in the mid 90s. Give them a chance lol.
Brother, judging our landscape we don't really need tanks. What we need is Patria AMV with mortar and 105mm gun systems. Tanks don't work that well in Croatia(look at the Homeland war and even WW2) , maybe only in continental part, but elsewhere just nope. I do agree we need like maybe 100 tanks, maybe some variants of T-90 or even maybe Leopard 2A5 or 6s but we should rely more on those fast 105mm Patria AMVs and it would be nice to have atleast 300 of those.
A ti druže Tito bolje ti je šuti ako nemaš što pametno reći. ZDS

That vehicle is freakin huge.

Beautiful howitzer and excellent loading mechanism. What can I say German designers great.
I apologize for laughing my ass of when you tried to pronounce Panzerhaubitze.
Kuchen Krümel haha I don't mind
Wow, what a howitzer! As an old M109 artilleryman, I have the greatest respect for this vehicle's specs. Fabulous rate of fire and able to fire seconds after stopping (without need of collimator and compass setting).
Thanks for this video. Odd, that some of the footage is mirror-imaged.
10:50 All Pzh2000 loading and fireing systems have a manual backup. Moving in to position quickly is a drill called shoot&scoot this increases the survivalabilty of the gun due to possible counter battery fire.
With the newly adopted (2017) "Leistungsgesteigerte Munition" (improved performance ammunition) the maximum range reachable is about 56-60km
Also: Having 3000 NM of Torque at 2000rpm really does give powerful boost out of the ~18 liters of capacity, whilst the 1000hp seem a little underpowered
key feature you did not mention: multiple rounds simultaneous impact.
forgot the details but it means it fire several rounds(5 i think, not sure) at diffent angles and they all impact at target simultaneously
The longbow or archer artillery system can do simultaneous impact aswell
@@weirdscience8341 Not exactly. Archer is slower it cant deliver the same amount of shells on the target at the same time.
astonishing rate of fire!!!!
Wow, this is a beast, go Germany! Also, don't worry about not being able to pronounce it, Germans like to use long words bunched together that describe exactly what an object does. Look at some of the full names of German WW2 kit!

For the german army already in 1998 the M109 wasnt effective enough to meet modern battle standards even with upgrades so they decided to replace them with the Panzerhaubitze 2000.
Best self-propelled howitzer. Most cost effective, Archer. :)
No idiotic terrorising music conset over the speech ! Thank you !
You got a very nice channel with good background information. Thank you!
For pronouncing German compund words it's the best to split them like Panzer-haubitze or Pan-zer-hau-bit-ze (most of the h's in German are pronounced, because German dont have silent letters).
Another marvel of German engineering.
Imagine how powerful this thing was in the years after it came out and started selling...
your sounding better Matsimus hope your recovering well
PzH 2000, I would have pronounced it "panzer hobbits svie toussan". Because who doesn't want panzer-hobbits?
Nice to see my country (Lithuania) new purchase video :) @ 6:55min :)
This SPG was love at first sight when it was announced many many years ago
that's a stout maybach engine. the US was toying with a system that linked the supply vehicle autoloader to their artillery. it was cancelled when someone suggested that it was vital to be able to distance each unit from the other or lose two vehicles in one shot in an attack instead of one
Well to be sure, that auto loader looks to be pretty solidly built
Gotta love the mounted MG3
Italy bought some of these. I even saw them on a train in my town.
Totally it is like jg e100 design
Look so nice and stable after shot
You forgot to mention the MRSI technique and that it can be used in direct firing called direktes Richten.
German steel and engineering is un-surpassed in mechanised warefare vehicles. This magnificent specimen is but another sureb working example of their prowess. I thank God that Germany is now our friend and companion.
The thing that you missed is that 1 artillery piece can shoot 6 rounds in short succession that impact the target at the same time due to different sized propellant charges and the auto targeting system. I guess this is not unique to the PZH 2000 but it's still impressive...
The K9 thunder would be pretty cool to see next, not sure between that or the PzH 2000. both seem awesome
The Leopard One MTU powerplant maybe rated at 1000 hp but actually puts out over 1200 hp. It also comes with a "battle" setting which rises the power to almost 2000 hp - for 15 minutes full load, but who would go full throttle for 15 minutes. The same "battle" setting is in the German Leopards Two with an similar increase in power. Friends of mine serving in the Bundeswehr back then reported the Leopard One going well over 100 km/h and only at 115 km/h throwing its threads on the Autobahn. Naturally this was only done if an inexperienced commanding officer made the mistake to complain about to slow driving and demanded to put the pedal to the metal......
German engineers are very good at what they do perhaps the best in the world I can't imagine if this technology was available to Germany during WW2 who knows what the outcome would of been.
I know someone who was the Gunner in a PZH 2000 at the operation Medusa. He actually holds the record in fast shooting with it. So the time from determine a target till the fist shot.
proof ?
one of the big factors is you get five of these together and they do what's called a multiple round simultaneous impact. MRS
you can basically have 20 rounds go off on a Target at the same time nothing's walking out
each individual artillery piece can land for Rounds on the same Target at the same time
Can't wait for the Krab 155mm self-propelled howitzer on korean undercarriage review.
Did you mention PzH2K having MRSI capability?
during tests with the Excalabur guided projectile it had a range of more than 50km
11:31 Is that artillery Jesus?
It's a bad image so it seems the figure has a beard. It's the "Holy Barbara" patron saint of the Artillery.
@@derpanzerkommandant4641 Also, in Poland Saint Barbara is patron of the Artillery.
It a modern Jagdtiger
What a good looking beast...
My cousin was a Commander on one of these in the Greek Armed Forces!
I'll help manning one of these in a year. Looking forward to it.
The best mobile artillery in the world..
I get anxious every time I see the loader jab his fist full of an explosive sock into the breach of a 155mm howitzer.
Its the best Self -Propelled howitzer in the worl and it looks like the MAUS
damn thing from a distance almost looks like the silhouette of the legendary Panzerkampfwagen VIII "Maus" from WWII
They come usually in groups of 2-4. Imagine the hell they bring with this fire rate. I was trained as an artillery spotter during my basic military service, but sadly never saw them live. It sure would have been spectacular. We only had the old M109 in our batteries.
Great video Mat. Its just funny, anytime one posts a video about german equipment, WoT-players will pop up and make stupid WWII comparisons :-P
Yes...
We use this one in the Dutch Royal Army too.
The german army used the PzH 2000 during their ISAF mission in afghanistan as stationary artillery for support fire, from their bases...
Great vid. I really love your explanation about Weapon-systems. 👍
This SPG is a lot quicker then you may realize, even with the power plant being at that level.
For comparing it to it's US counter parts, there is no real match there. This thing is the enemies worst nightmare if it comes to artillery. There is no SPG in the world like this, this thing can track different targets, shoot at one and directly after turn the turret to the next target or the entire SPG and shoot again. No way in hell any other SPG in the world would be doing it faster or as good.
I was on the M109A6, and we talked about what a cool howitzer the PzH 2000 the krauts built. They sure still know how to make a world class combat vehicle. Now we just gotta get those Germans to stop fearing their own shadow (their past) and embrace their central role in European affairs. Military power does give diplomatic heft. People listen to you strangely enough when you got a big fuckin stick.
Saying germany should jump over there shadow but calling them krauts. 🤦🏻♂️
@@florianwild2791 What do the two things have to do with each other? Krauts in this context was not derisive.
What an insane beast. Go Germany. You know how to design tracked artillery.
Well the Krauts Mafey company built a beautiful vehicle there!
There was a terrible accident in 2006 in east germany during a live firing exercise. 2 german soldiers died when the loading mechanism was not fast enough for the crew. They where to fast in placing the powder, so the powder package got stuck inside the receiver and later, during the repair, it exploded. I was in the Lausitz as a soldier only a few months later and other people talked about the accident. I must say, i‘m not convinced about these automatic loading mechanisms after that.
16 of those bad boys are newest armored addition to Croatian army.. They are huge and any army thinking on charging trough here is going to have big problems with that range and big rounds coming in fast rate..
I saw Paladin and PzH 2000 in Lithuania face to face. Can't tell which is better, but PzH 2000 looks like fat beast. More then 55t beast!
could be, especially when PzH looks more advanced, comfortable and performing better then Paladin.
Domashenk0 the paladin only has a rate of fire of 3 rounds per minute, which is so bad...
PzH 2000 = 3 rounds
I see a point why Lithuanian Armed Forces purchased 21 of PzH
The biggest advantage is that the bullets can be fired at different angles so the 5 targets can be destroyed at the same time
Thank you! Finally :D
Since I whined like 10 times or so for this thing to be covered.
Great video and now I actually know more about it.
The interior looks pretty large for an armored vehicle. Should be good for the crew to work in their. It's no frontline vehicle anyways.
But we saw some footage that indicates it could be used as direct fire tank substitute in dire situations. Always good to have such features!
What I missed in this video was a clearer comparison to the vehicles you already looked at. Especially compared to the AS90. I would like to know what you thing which one is better or more suitable.
But even if you don't want to hear it - seriously: try to punch in such terms as Panzerhaubitze into google translate and click the sound icon. Nobody expects you to pronounce it correctly. There are some combinations of letters in there that doesn't exist in English but you could easily come up with a decent "Pan-ser-hou-bit-seh". Whatever you said there - it was sadly unrecognizable.
Don't see this as hating please! Just some constructive critique. Naturally there will always be strange foreign terms if you keep covering all kinds of vehicles and it's always respectful and dedicated if you try to pronounce it as good as possible.
The Germans watching this put in many years of effort to actually understand the video and it is a lot of work so maybe one word would be some good fan service.
Saint Barbara at the breach block, nice touch.
Great video, thanks for posting!!!
i love this thing, its like if the Panther and the Ferdinand had a son.
We have the M109A9 Paladin. The ninth version of the venerable M109 Paladin.
