- The Bundeswehr has begun testing a new self-propelled artillery system, the RCH-155 [Remotely Controlled Howitzer - ed.], Ukraine will be the first country to order them.
As Welt news agency reports, the 155-mm system is similar to the Panzerhaubitze 2000, but is constructed on a Boxer wheeled vehicle. Germany, together with the Netherlands, has supplied 14 units of Panzerhaubitze to Ukraine. The next generation of howitzers for the Bundeswehr is now being procured.
The RCH-155 wheeled howitzer, developed by arms industry company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), has unique capabilities because it does not need to stop to fire its shells. This has huge advantages, as it makes it difficult to detect and combat.

The main feature of this howitzer was forgotten to mention here. The howitzer is able to engage a target while driving. to my knowledge, this is the only howitzer in the world that is capable of doing so.
Might be able to engage on the move but at the expense of any form of accuracy. The CER would be insane whilst it's moving, more akin to NGS

What you mean is it can engage moving targets. It isn't the only vehicle in the world to do this, but is more accurate at this. It cannot engage on the move. It isn't in the Rheinmetal information. and has never been an operational requirement of any force using the vehicle.

Though the boxer is very popular and in use in many armies, this module has yet to see its first sale.
Furthermore the boxer itself is a joint venture between the Netherlands and Germany. The Dutch joined the program after the brits decided not to continue.
Fun fact the uk has decided to buy over 500 units because the end product is stil a decent piece of kit.

The German Armed Forces arent using the boxer RCH 155, for now atleast. We want to buy them but their not into service in our Army.
Wrong... we will buy the RCH155 for our MITTLERE KRÄFTE. The RCH155 is the wheel-based-artillery system of this new MITTLERE KRÄFTE of the Bundeswehr. We also orded last 2 weeks 100 wheel-IFV BOXER with 30mm turret.... also for the MITTLERE KRÄFTE.

Everytime I see wheeled artillery like this or the Archer, I think we need to add them to the US military. Caesar is nice too.
The Boxer can also be order with tracks. It’s a great vehicle

What's not to like?
The larger cousins like the PzH200 will stay. This is only a much more mobile alternative. In Germany only the parts of the "Mittlere Kräfte"(very mobile, mostly equiped with boxers) become the Rch155. The "Schwere Kräfte"(heavy equipment like the leopards) use the classic mobile howitzers on tracks like the PzH2000.

is this video only meant for the USA? as 99% of the globe is metric ?
I believe most calibers are in metric for NATO specs as most American military units use metric for NATO intergration/training. This dude making the video is American so of course it's in Standard units as we call em haha

'standard" is in real life imperil - used by maybe 3 countries around the globe - the rest of the globe /world works and understands metric

A meter and a yard are pretty close in comparison, a meter is just a smidge more, with a yard being three feet. I like being worldly rounded :p
You might also want to check the contradiction between your audio "in this context the boxer RCH 155 is seen as a symbol of Ukraine's determination to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity" (9:10) and the image of Ukraine's map without Crimea (9:16).
Wheels are better suited for long travel distaces on roads, so 'more mobile' in a big theater, Additionally the Boxer RCH155 or Donar (Same gun module on Tracks based on a spanish Pizarro Chassis) Systems can be airlifted by A-400 Tactical Transport Plane, Pz-2000 can not, what was a important requirement in times of Afghanistan war,.. in european theater today, less so important'.

Fires further, while being better protected then all of those truck based platforms.
Good to see someone providing Ukraine with modern military weapons and not just ones reaching the ends of their service lives and nearing obsolescence.
If you want the war to last at least 2 more years then it's good, otherwise it bit late to be calling it victory weapon

The RCH155 wheel-based artillery will be part of the MIDDLE FORCES structure newly created by the Bundeswehr. The Bundeswehr in Germany will in future be divided into 3 different units. 1. LIGHT FORCES (e.g. paratroopers/rapid availability/light weapons) 2. MEDIUM FORCES (fully wheel based units on BOXER as IFV, personnel carrier and RCH155/mobile/high firepower) 3. HEAVY FORCES (chain based/highest protection and maximum combat power).
The RCH155 Artillery will be an integral part of this MEDIUM FORCES, which will be exclusively wheel-based. The main weapon system will be the BOXER in various versions. Also as artillery. The PzH2000 is assigned to the HEAVY FORCES (chain based)
RCH 155 will not only be used as Brigade-level artillery in the medium forces but also Division level Artillery. Only the heavy forces will retain tracked PZH 2000 in their Brigade level Artillery.
@@jonny2954 Then you misunderstood me. The Bundeswehr or the army classifies and divides the armed forces into 3 different categories. 1. Light Forces 2. Medium Forces 3. Heavy Forces.
And for the Medium forces, a continuous wheel-based mobilization applies. The RCH155 is procured for this. The PzH2000 is assigned to the Heavy Forces. That applies all the time!!!
@@bobthecanon3457 Read my comment again. I said *not only* medium forces brigade level artillery but *also* division level artillery. The Bundeswehr has both, brigade and division level artillery. Heavy brigade artillery is PZH 2000, medium brigade artillery RCH 155, division level artillery also RCH 155.

Has anyone watched the video and noticed how often it was mentioned that it is based on the "boxer light fighting vehicle". At least 4 times. Corrupted short memory - or what is wrong with you guys?
Nice piece of kit, but I think there's 1 drawback? it should have had a 3-man crew, commander driver and gunner, with a gunner the commander can keep a watch out for danger and act as a backup for the gunner or driver if they were injured or killed and it gives a 3-man crew better maintenance, but overall, it looks like a great mobile artillery, Canada needs this piece of incredible kit.
There is room for one additional man in the turret to operate it in case the autoloader doesn't work.
But normally the commander would use the AI as gunner to do hunter killer operations.
So the AI does what a human gunner would do i.e. look at the target the commander designated and then engage it while the commander is free to do more observation and designation of targets. This is the first system I know of that has that capability.
But this direct fire operation is obviously only used in emergencies. Normally an artillery piece would not be anywhere near the enemy and only engage in indirect fire operations.
The idea of this one is the possibility of beeing fully remotely controlled/autonomous just like the Rheinmetalls KF51 wich also offers the possibility for such a transformation.
So ideally these would need no crew at all in the future

Archer is absolutely amazing, an advantage the RCH has is that it can fire while moving, not even the Phz 2000 could do that. Archer can fire like 4 or 5 rounds in less than 60 seconds including mounting and unmounting i guess. That’s so crazy, Archer is a masterpiece! It is great to have Sweden as a friend!
The RCH can act completly autonomous AND shoot while on the move, buddy ;-) it's a new generation of artillary. Compare it to the Archer 2, as soon as this is a thing ;-)

Hey DC, pentagon don't you notice how everybody's going to truck-mounted self-propelled howitzers? The xm1299 with a 58 caliber 155 mm that can shoot 100 miles is freaking amazing awesome, but that gun doesn't need to be mounted on a freaking tracked whole only! At this point at this time it sounds like they're essentially just going to complete the development of the turret and autoloader and just Mount them two older m109s...
I'm sure they will eventually developer buy off the shelf the xm1299 on a truck, but that should be already in the works! The technology behind going over 100 miles has nothing to do with the barrel being anyting over 58 caliber so why aren't they developing and Fielding the truck howitzer now and Fielding the upgraded m109s now? They do this with everything they take for f****** ever it makes no goddamn sense! I mean most people who actually pay attention and love this country understand Trump is a legend, but like he really saved our ass, gave us probably an extra 5 years I think we would not exist as a nation if we didn't have four years of trump and hopefully another four...

The Information is aktualy fals they are up to this moment not provided to anyone. The ivco chassis had nothing to do with the boxer it is just the Option to placed the Gun Module on a Truckchassis as an example. The System is aktualy in the last develpments and certification stage. But because Ukraine is in fire need and fireing 155 on the move is a Gamechanger Germany ordered 10 Systems for delivery to Ukraine.

Volume does not equal Masse. Just that it looks top heavy doesn't mean it is otherwise every oceanliner would capcise. Aktualy it can fire a155 whith the highest loadout in an 360°angle while on the move.
