After seeing you recommend that micro-abrasion product, was inspired to make my own by making a paste with baking soda and water. It worked beautifully! Finally got that cloudy surface off my resin knobs, so happy.
I will have to give the Turtle wax a go sometime, as up to now for turned Acrylic work I have gone through the sanding grits first, then used Brasso brass polish followed by Silvo silver polish. works a treat, high gloss blemish free finish. I did that while it was still on the lathe. For carved acrylic small detail I use the same polishes on Dremel buffing heads. Love the way the piece turned out, screw television, this is my kind of entertainment.
Hi! So I’m working on a project that’s a wooden sword with the fuller carved out and filled with resin like you would say a river table. I can’t get the crystal clear high gloss finish though! I’ve even gone up to a 3000 grit sand paper. I can’t get the Yorkshire compound he has and don’t have too much extra money for this project. I have the turtle wax polish though. Do you have any suggestions for what I could do?
Oh, this Video helped me so much! There is an artist in my town who sells resin products and he sometimes has a small stand in a shopping center, but recently I noticed that somehow on the ear of a polygon wolf that was made of resin somehow unfortunately got scratches and I watch this channel for years and funnily enough this video was found at the perfect time. Ben's Workx is just the best Channel out there and i wish i had i could be as half so good, hahaha.
Oh wahhh!! Are you into BJDs too? I’m an eye maker, as well, and really hate coating the eyes. Polishing is a pain, too, sadly, as the eyes are so small and you barely have the chance to get a grip. I’m super interested in your works now - where can I find your eyes?
Thanks for the information, Ben. I’m trying to work up the nerve to try resin casting. This might help get me going! Thanks again! 😃😃🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Cheers from Canada! Happy turning, .....Gord
Fantastic job ben as usual, i was thinking of an idea for you, a small resin pond with a couple of trees with a man fishing, cast in resin, hope you and your family are well🏴
Hi. New to this channel and making resin crafts! It was therapeutic watching you do your work. Random question… how come you used such a big cup if you were going to take so much of the resin off? Also … I have the same question as the other person about sphere molds that come in halves and getting rid of the mid-line marks after sanding it. I use a small handheld drill. But it sucks and when I try to paint more resin … sometimes it doesn’t dry smoothly bc The brush streaks show 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ please help! Thank you!
I have also found that if the humidity is high in your shop the resin will soak it up and your project will be cloudy I have had several issues from this
Its same as a painted car. I don't start as low as 600 for sandpaper tho. But always finish at 1200. sanding done with a block, no machine, then polish it with compound and go down a grade with anti swirl tho. Much less aggressive with the polish machine tho. But he doesn't have to worry about burning thru clear coat and paint
Hey ben i wonder if you still use the turtle wax scratch and renew as they have a new formula. It feels alot courser then yorkshire grit so i was wondering if you changed what you use
Useful, thanks. I've just bought a Dremel tool to help with sanding and polishing resin pieces. The polishing kit came with a small tub of polishing compound but I know a lot of people use car polish or Novus. Have you ever tried Novus polishing compound? The egg looked beautiful x
Great video Ben thanks for all the great tips. Got just one question, this is epoxy and wood project so in theory wet sanding is not the best idea for the wood? Have you ever had meant issues with that? If wood absorbed moisture during wet sanding will it not crack later when it dries? Thanks in advance for the answer 👍
Hello Ben - Great process detailed clearly for us novices. Question: The lathe link you have given here - would they deliver to UK? Question: What bench polisher do you have and could I inquire where you bought it from please? Love and Light from UK
I’ve always found I needed to sand up to 7000 grit to get a proper shine (although I’m clearly not as knowledgeable as you). I will try up to 1200 grit to see if this works for me. Willing to do anything to cut out INR he sanding. 😅
I'm making a pyramid cast memorial for my mom. I finished but it needs to be polished. I don't have the ability to spin it. So do you recommend I do all the steps in order on each side start to finish or do all the sides at the same time?
I've been using this product for years, and has brillaint finish gloss, however it scratches real easy. Any product that can be applied to make it scratch resistant?
So I have watched a ton of videos now on polishing. you describe well the process but something NO ONE ever seems to answer is HOW LONG should you stay on 1 gret. they say until all the marks from the previous grit are gone but I cant even see any marks to use as a gauge. I just need to know a typical standard timeframe to polish say a 1 foot square. I also had multiple people say do 5 or 6 passes, then rest and do again however is a pass considered moving the sander 1 inch per second? I know you are supposed to keep the sander moving as to not heat the resin too much but nothing says about how long it should take you. for your egg- did it take 10 minutes per grit? 30 minutes? an hour? I have tried various polishing/rubbing compounds nad types of grit and polishing wheels over the last 2 weeks. I am obviously doing something incorrectly but I have no basis to compare to.
Hello, I have a question for you, I have started using resin relatively recently and still am a beginner. I currently use UV resin and I use Spherical moulds to create resin balls, but since the moulds come in 2 parts, there is always a seamline around the middle, and no matter what I do, I cant get rid of it. I've used sandpaper but it makes the surface look scratched, and then applying new resin makes the scratches disappear but once I start applying resin manually, with a paintbrush, my ball is never again a perfect sphere. I notice you use a machine to polish your works; I'm just wondering if you have any advice for someone who doesn't have these at their disposal? Many thanks.
I have watched and rewatched this tutorial to attain this same finish. Apparently one cannot get Yorkshire polishing grit in the USA. I can get the finishing polisher (Turtle wax brand) but at a loss for the Yorkshire.... any alternative suggestions??
Is there a way to get the yellow out of an antique jewelry piece. I inherited a piece from my great gran that was yellowed by the time I got it. It most likely came to me because it's illegal to sell but can be passed down as an heirloom piece. It's a baby terrapin shell slice with a baby seahorse in the center. The seahorse has a diamond eye and is holding a pearl in it's curled tail. But the resin is so yellowed it looks like apple juice. I would like to clean it up because I am looking into donating it to a museum.
I don't believe there is a way to get the yellow out of it as I'm pretty sure it's the entire epoxy that turns yellow, you can only protect it from yellowing further.
Is there any place in the US where we can buy Yorkshire grit is seems to be a very hard to find item in stores for people to have money issues on finding the right type of sandpaper or micro mesh pads do you think you could try doing a video of using like Emery boards cuz that's what I've been using because I can't seem to find the right stuff in my price range I'm also plan on doing the video like that myself but I got a couple of projects and I'm planning on dealing with eggs and I don't know if my resin is up to that challenge but I'm going to try to use an actual egg shell as the mold plus also make a silicone mold with an eggshell
Hi! So I’m currently working on a wooden sword project where the ruler is filled with resin (used the river table technique and a deep pour resin). I’ve sanded mine even down to a 3000 grit but I still can’t get all the scratches to go away or get it crystal clear. All I have is a drill attachment for little sanding pads and same thing for buffing. Nothing pneumatic. I have the same polishing compound but cannot afford and don’t have the time to get the microfiber compound you have. Do you have any suggestions for me to get it crystal clear like yours? Or at I just out of luck here?
hey ben, just wondering if you can have a look at amazon in uk and recommend a fine polish, as the one you showed in your video is not on our amazon or at least not the scratch and swirl one. there is one called scratch remover but it has 3 stars so i doubt is at good as yours. i could fine the yorkshire one but not the turtle wax, your model. or if you can just recommend any other finishing polish product after you apply the yorkshire microfine, that we can buy in uk, preferably amazon :D
What are the best products to use to remove very fine surface scratches and swirls. I’ve tried the very expensive 3M compounds and polishes that I see the pros using(almost everyone on these videos uses 3M) I’ve tried wool pads foam pads soft pads abrasive pads waxes pastes and polishes and nothing seems to bring my clear resin back to its crystal clear see through state. When you get down on a knee and look at it, it looks nice and glossy like glass with no imperfections but when you stand up and look directly down on it then you can see imperfection city with swirls and scratches everywhere. I’ve tried using more product then tried less product. Product on different pads and nothing gets it out like on these videos. Anyone have any tips????? Greatly appreciate it it’s killing me over here.
Hey Ben, what speed do you run the lathe whole you run through the sanding grits? And by no more scratches/lines, you mean at all or ones you can feel? I'm working on my resin polishing
Do you use the bench grinder for your polishing wheel for a certain reason? I was just wondering becasue couldnt someone use the lathe, or is it just personal preference and convenience.
Hey there. I use Yorkshire grit too, but seriously ... its just at 2,000 grit, if its done? They say you just need to sand it down to 400-600 to get the same result ... Why don't you use micromesh after yorkshire grit? Up to 12,000 grit? And then a nice waxing? Shellawax? Or Boatswax like i do?. Have you tried it? Maybe it looks a biiiit better :) I'm happy for an answer. Btw, its not meant rude or something, just curious.
I was once told not to hold whatever you are polishing on a buffing wheel for too long in the one place as the area could over heat and melt. Is that true?
Well what are you waiting for? Have a BBQ with coals use those ashes, shine and dye. Try different types of wood as well for ashes because all though ash black is ash black the pigments are structurally different. I my self prefer a red maple ash. You would polish the was u normally do just at the point where you feel happy with it now go that extra step and see if it’s something you would enjoy. And ashs go a long long way ive had a 8inchx4inchx2inch container full for two months now. An, ill say i enjoyusing the product you endorse i recieved them this morning with a little book giving times for quantity. Was impressed!!! Thank you Ben. Look forward to the next video.
Ahhh... There's nothing better that clicking on the video and hearing an Aussies voice !
👍
After seeing you recommend that micro-abrasion product, was inspired to make my own by making a paste with baking soda and water. It worked beautifully! Finally got that cloudy surface off my resin knobs, so happy.
👍
Can i ask how?? i need!
Yah what ratios did you use. It would be so helpful.
Oooh I'm gonna have to give this a try! Thank you for posting this comment!!
Did you make video of how to make and result... I wanna see
I came for the sanding ideas and stayed for the pour/lathe work!! Nicely done...
Thanks Lisa 😊
Thanks for the info. That “egg” came out nice 😂
Great to hear an Aussie accent and explain things so well thank you

Ben's Workx is just the best Channel out there and i wish i had i could be as half so good, hahaha.
I am so excited to give this a try. I make doll eyes and this is gonna help with my issue of "coating"
Oh wahhh!! Are you into BJDs too? I’m an eye maker, as well, and really hate coating the eyes. Polishing is a pain, too, sadly, as the eyes are so small and you barely have the chance to get a grip. I’m super interested in your works now - where can I find your eyes?
Excellent watch, thanks 😊🌈
Thank you very much for the tips, I made it up to 1500 but didn't know where to go from there, on to polishing! THANKS AGAIN!
Thanks for the information, Ben. I’m trying to work up the nerve to try resin casting. This might help get me going! Thanks again! 😃😃🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Cheers from Canada!
Happy turning,

Thanks Gord
Nothing makes me happier than hearing you pronounce Yorkshire correct 😂 also great video! Your piece looks absolutely beautiful!
Your tips are very clear.
That was really helpful, thank you!
I had no idea! Fascinating. I must show my sister Christeen, age 69.
Great tips Ben! Thanks for sharing your methods, your pieces always turn out so amazing!!
Thanks Zac!
Thanks so much for sharing. You answered so many questions for me.
Hello Ben, the project is fantastic. Thanks for the super explanation to polish. Now I can try it sometime. Many greetings from Andy from Germany
Hi Andy, Thanks Mate! hello from Australia
Thank you this is exactly what I've been looking for
Thanks for sharing great information.
“Save that guys channel, he knows what he’s doing”
Thanks for sharing you inside tips with us!

Hello I'm French et j' aime cette vidéo
And the lego video? 😁
I love your stuff. You are quite talented! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Jim, sorry I forgot to add the link. It’s there now 👍
@@BensWorx thank you, Sir.
Top quality really appreciate your work 💯🥇👌
Thankyou
Fantastic job ben as usual, i was thinking of an idea for you, a small resin pond with a couple of trees with a man fishing, cast in resin, hope you and your family are well🏴
Thanks Keith, sounds like a great idea 👍
Nice job 👍At least I have learned something new.

Wow Amazing, man!
Thanx for sharing!
👍
Would the process be the same for a larger project? Would the polishing wheels be the same?
great video, thank for the tips
thanks mate, most helpful
I have also found that if the humidity is high in your shop the resin will soak it up and your project will be cloudy
I have had several issues from this
Wow! Great tips. That video was very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks Mate
Hi Ben! Do you have tips for sculptures that are more pointy and not "round"? How does that process go?
I hope to hear from you soon! Great vid!
Thanks Mate, the process is the same, if you have tricky parts they may need to be sanded by hand
Outstanding! Thank you for the tips!
No worries Tom 👍
Awesome tips Ben!! Good stuff!! 👍
Thanks Mate

Also basically what you get in a headlight cleaning kit
V nyc...im a biggner.. pls mention the numbers of sand paper n polish.. I don't have machine.. cn I use manually? pls..thnks
Sry useful tutorial, Ben. I plan to try resin turning soon, and this helped me a lot.
Oops - “very “, not “Sry”.
👍
Great tutorial, Ben.
Thanks Bill
Thanks for the info! You've got some great work!
Thanks Mate
Hey ben i wonder if you still use the turtle wax scratch and renew as they have a new formula. It feels alot courser then yorkshire grit so i was wondering if you changed what you use
Great tutorial.... Kindly guide me what to use on cake plates to make them shine?
I don't think so that car polish will be suitable for it

Have you ever had meant issues with that? If wood absorbed moisture during wet sanding will it not crack later when it dries? Thanks in advance for the answer 👍
Hi Mate, Thankyou, I’ve never had any dramas with the wood cracking. I do try and limit the amount of water on the wood side though
Hello Ben - Great process detailed clearly for us novices. Question: The lathe link you have given here - would they deliver to UK? Question: What bench polisher do you have and could I inquire where you bought it from please? Love and Light from UK
Great video. From Syria.. Thanks man.
I like your egg 😂😂

What do you do to polish smaller crevices hard to get to with just sandpaper?
Hi Ben, thanks for sharing. 1hp machine sufficient for polishing?how much hp is the machine you use?
I've been using this product for years, and has brillaint finish gloss, however it scratches real easy. Any product that can be applied to make it scratch resistant?
@ben's worx what rpm are you running on that bench grinder?

Are there any attachments that work with the lathe to use the same way, for those without additional machinery
Thanks for posting this 🤗

What grits are you using? Also, are you sure that the sphere has fully cured?
What about people who dont have machinery or money to spend on it? Is it OK to just do everything by hand?
Cool stuff and that music is mesmorizing
Thanks Mate
Hi Ben. Where do you buy Yorkshire Grit in Oz. Can’t seem to find it. Cheers
Thanks
thnks for sharing .i try to use my turtle scrach remover
Is there a reason why you can't polish on the lathe? does bringing the resin to the buffing wheel offer advantages?
You are the best💚
Thanks Mate
I have watched and rewatched this tutorial to attain this same finish.

Does this seal and protect the wood as well?

What polish compound did you use
I've been doing a lot of research to find the lathe with connector so it'd connect my dome shape resin peice to the lithe. Do you know how to call it?
hey ben, just wondering if you can have a look at amazon in uk and recommend a fine polish, as the one you showed in your video is not on our amazon or at least not the scratch and swirl one. there is one called scratch remover but it has 3 stars so i doubt is at good as yours. i could fine the yorkshire one but not the turtle wax, your model.

Can u use one machine for the finish touch

What speed do you set your lathe for sanding and polishing?
What tool are u use for my pricing please
thank you :)
Hey Ben, what speed do you run the lathe whole you run through the sanding grits?
And by no more scratches/lines, you mean at all or ones you can feel? I'm working on my resin polishing
I sand at 700rpm. definitely none that you can feel and visually the ones that look deep
Great video, really enjoyed it 👍🏼
Thanks Mate
Do you use the bench grinder for your polishing wheel for a certain reason? I was just wondering becasue couldnt someone use the lathe, or is it just personal preference and convenience.
I’ve found the bench grinder works best for me, I’m able to maneuver the piece a lot better
Hi Mate, I’ve been sanding resin for years and I’ve found this method to be the quickest and easiest way for me 👍
Where do you get your polishing pads?
To create like this item wht tpye of resin we want to use. Clear or crystal clear resin ?
Wow! Thank you.
No worries
Thanks for sharing this knowledge. I thought I was doing g it wrong.
No worries mate
I was once told not to hold whatever you are polishing on a buffing wheel for too long in the one place as the area could over heat and melt. Is that true?
It definitely gets hot but it won’t melt. I don’t recommend holding in the one spot either
Ben's Worx thanks for that.
That is true for car paint/clear. I still wouldn't risk it on resin
Does this method work for UV resins?
What rpms are you buffing at?
Wow!
I wish I could have you polish my insect domes that I have on my channel 🦋🦀🦂🕷🐜 good video tho👍
They look good
What does the uv light do?
will this work with uv resin?
Have u tried ash as a polish on a cotton pad ouuulala for that perfect shine finish rub medium tough
Nah I haven’t tried it Niko
