7:34 pm Phoenix Arizona ! I enjoyed watching your video ~ I've never polished resin before ~ I make items out of resin but they come out of the molds and so far I haven't had to polish them ~ Until today ~ I have 2 clocks that need polishing ~ I don't have the equipment you do but now I know what I have to do ~ I really enjoyed watching you polishing your pieces ~
Great teachings iam starting to work with more epoxy resin you and my home town guy pole barn production are my go to. On the water changing i use a spray bottle put the sandpaper over a bowl load up then a quick spray on the piece just a thought Please dont stop teaching have a blessed day
FINALLY a video that shows in gory detail what it takes to make resin shiny. A lot more to it than most admit. Really great and thought out video, thank you!
Even if nothing else was useful, which it WAS, there were two really good tidbits in there: first, I knew that lathe artists often use denatured alcohol between grits, but not WHY. Second, that tip about using woodworking wax grit to polish headlights is SUPER COOL! Thank you, this is a great video!
I highly appreciate you and how you're really teaching how to sand and how to know when to move up in grit and everything. I thought I ruined my piece and have no one to help or teach me.
Very informative. U went step by step & throughly explained. Thank you. I've learned so much watching your videos. By the way...I love your pieces. Simply beautiful.
I just found your videos and they are very informative. You’ve answered so many questions in just a few videos. I’m definitely following you. Thank you for your help. New to resin working.
Hey Jake! DOUG suggested we come learn some of your techniques for sanding and polishing resin. I use the micro sanding pads on my small stuff like acrylic pens and bottle stoppers. One thing I learned when I used to do body and paint, while wet sanding a panel I’d use a few drops of dish soap in my sanding water. It breaks the surface tension and the water stays with the project and doesn’t dry out as fast. Give it a try and see what you think. Thanks for sharing!
Bro. .... BRO. ..... These 2 videos are perfect. I was totally and completely doing my projects all wrong. Thank you very very much 😊. Thanks for the breakdown too. Now I know how to get my projects perfect, if not almost perfect. Thanks - you are a life saver
While I'm not a turner, I really enjoy watching the things you makers create. Thanks for taking the time to show this process, it's really interesting.
That mesh sandpaper you use - I’d not heard of it before (except a similar product I use when sanding sheetrock mud).Brilliant! I checked out your links to Amazon and am purchasing some for my lathe work. I’m enjoying your videos; you’re acqainting me with resin. i appreciate your whimsical creativity and your clever finished products.
that's super cool! I don't have the fancy machine, but now I have a better idea of how to go about shining up my resin pieces . Thank you for posting. great job!
Great, thanks! I would add that the better the mould is for the resin, the less work you have to take out scratches afterwards. Always worth spending time on making the template and the mould as perfect as possible.
Jake you make some real xool videos that I always learn something from. Maybe things I knew or maybe things Ive thought about, but always informative. Youve got little to know sleepy parts as some videos do. Thx. n keep wrkn.
Hi Jake I've made a few dozen resin projects over the years and have always been happy with my results and final polish, however this explanation is brilliant and I'm sure it'll improve my work. I've never thought to sand sideways and a couple of times I've discovered ridges 3 grits to late. Feel foolish now. Thanks for the help
you might want to try out the BG Artforms Acrylic Buffing Mandrel from Craft Supply USA to buff your resin product. It is designed for polishing this type of material. Also the Dr. Kirk's Micro Magic Polishing Wax 3 Piece Set is a abrasive paste that will take you the the same level that micro mesh will.
I really learned a lot from your video. I just wish you could suggest what other appliance or way to sand and polish if we don’t have access to the type of machines you have. I was excited but kinda got discouraged. If you have any suggestions what we can use if we don’t have those machines. I’ve got grinders, sanders, multi tool, Dremel, Diamond sanding pads, etc. I need the polishes, and compounds. Please let me know any suggestions you’ve got. Thank you

I have done flat projects with an orbital sander and then wet sand by hand .. it came out pretty well.. I hope I helped you. Jake

Hello Jake, thanks much for the videos, learned a lot as I'm trying to assist my daughter who wants to work with resins and to start her own business, using my limited knowledge with wood working, It's very similar. The items she thought of making and selling, are small and not much bigger than the palm of the hand for now, so everything is done by hand, there really is no room for machinery. And I found a few videos that used several methods to pull the bubbles out that form upon mixing / pouring and using a lighter to pop some of them, it seems like a coffee mug warmer worked the best to get out the micro bubbles, when a vacuum chamber is not an option. And yorkshire-grit would that be best to use or more of a polishing compound after 1k or 2k grit wet sanding to bring out that clear / shine, for the lack of a better word.
SgtDreTecKeGamer awesome She will have tons of fun.. if you are going to use Yorkshire grit I wouldn’t go past 1,000 grit.. you can also sand it to a higher grit and use a resin top coat.. there’s lots of ways to do this.
@@JakeThompson Thanks for getting back to me, much appreciated, what are your thoughts on using heat as in the Mug warmer to help remove the micro bubbles.
SgtDreTecKeGamer I’ve never tried it but.. if you don’t have a pressure pot.. using a torch works, if the heater works.. go for it. I’m all about finding alternative ways to make things work.
