We’ve got our hands on all three editions of the Audi RS3, and we’re about to find out just how different they all are!
For starters, let’s check out the stats. The Mk1 RS3 is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged 5-cylinder that can put down 340hp and 480Nm of torque. It tips the scales at 1,575kg, and if you’re looking to pick one up in 2022 it’ll cost you about £25,000.
As for the Mk2, it’s also powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged 5-cylinder, but it’s well up on power, producing 400hp and 480Nm of torque. It’s lighter than the Mk1, at 1,510kg, and the price of one today is about £35,000.
Then finally we have the new Mk3. It’s powered by a (you guessed it…) 2.5-litre turbocharged 5-cylinder, putting down 400hp and 500Nm. It weighs the same as Mk1, at 1,575kg, and it currently costs £56,000.

For the price I'd take a MK2 saloon. Interior is still fresh, looks modern, sounds great (if you go pre-OPF) and seems not that much slower than the MK3.
It's slower only because it's not a sedan.

I love the current RS 3, but something about that 2018 RS 3 makes me have a soft spot for it and still looks modern today ~ so does that 2012 RS 3, nice and modern ~~

Man, the 8V generation or Mark 2 here looks SO MUCH BETTER! There is just no contest. I have no idea what went so horribly wrong in the design department to release the new generation like that but it simply does not look good or like a real, proper Audi. It's even worse when you compare them side by side.
i agree with you, i love the mk2 the most. don't know why many likes mk1. it doesn't look good and it's dated

Love the oval tailpipes on the new RS3’s! But there’s something about the MK1 having the two tailpipes on the side which does it for me, looks epic! 😉

@@brgthelegend each to their own, I love outrageous exhausts like the one on my C63. But I also do appreciate the more subtle and understated look. It gives that element of surprise on the road to the people who don’t know what they’re looking at 😉😁
Aerodynamics of that rs3 saloon most likely gave the edge overall especially at higher speeds

8V is the most beautiful by far
The big benefit of the new one is on the track with Torque Vectoring, it's much more dynamic in corners now than the previous ones (but they are still nice cars!).
@bahae eddine I didn't said that, but the RS3 is a very nice daily driver AND track car for the weekend.
If you use it that way, the 8Y is the best choice of these three.
And how many people bought an M2 for the track? You see them quiet often on track.
The RS3 8Y is equivalent with tracktimes to the M2.
You also see many Porsche Cayman GT4 on track, also in the same times as the RS3 8Y.
Even a new Audi R8 is "only" around 5 seconds faster on the nürburgring, the 2013 R8 V10 Plus (525 HP) is 5 seconds slower than the RS3 8Y.
So yes, it's a perfect car for track AND daily.
Not many cars are that fast on track and totally functional with size of the trunk and so on.
I agree, the 8Y is much better handling and it's a car I'd actually consider, unlike the 8V which was on my list when I bought my last car and I just couldn't justify it because of how poorly it handled. Same story with the TTRS, beside the fact that it lacked some very obvious options (no memory seats? seriously?)
The only problem with this car is that, as most reviewers have noted, it feels 'synthetic'. The fundamentals of the car are flawed, and there's enough patchwork and trickery that it becomes apparent. But it's not meant to be a pure driving machine, it's a hot hatch after all.

Pretty sure you got it confused with something else, like a Cayman S. The GT4 is about 20s faster on the Nordschleife which is in a completely different league.
Regardless, track times shouldn't matter for most people as they'll never go anywhere near those times. You get shamed by experienced drivers in a Miata for a long time until you learn to drive on a track properly anyway, so you might as well get something that can take track use without falling apart.

RS3 8Y--> 7:40,74
Cayman GT4 981--> 7:42.39
R8 V10 with 525 HP --> 7:44
And I said the NEW R8 is around 5 seconds faster, you proofed me wrong by saying it's 3 seconds, so it's even better for the RS3 8Y.

Best looking! No way. Mk2 looks lame, too soft. My 8Y RS3 looks way better. No one ever gave my old RS3 a second glance, the new one attracts loads of attention and compliments.
@mauricetoussaint7283 That's why I like the Mk2 face-lift more than the new one. It still looks aggressive but in a more elegant, understated way. The new one is far too McDonalds car cruise, wanna be gangster for my liking. Its just trying too hard like most of the people that buy them....
The RS3s are my favourite of all Audis (of all German cars if I'm honest) solely for that breathtaking 5cyl sound.

You should do a drag race between all the different versions of the Lamborghini Huracan that have come out throughout the years from the normal LP 610-4 to the latest Technica LP 640-2.
Do also a drag race between Huracan and LM55 LMH Vision GT.

100% NOT the best looking. Have you seen the new RS3 in the flesh? I own one, everywhere I go people love it - never got a second glance in my previous RS3.

yup, sedans generate less aero drag than hatchbacks and wagons, I think that's why the new RS3 started creeping ahead at high speeds

The Mk.1 has clearly the simplest design and I find the front end so nice and elegant compared to the newer cars.

IMO the Mk2 RS3 is still the best. Similar performance to the new car, better sounding and a better quality interior at a much lower price.

The 8V saloon,(that unfortunately isn't in the race) is still the best looking of all in my opinion. The 8P just looks old in my eyes, and the ne new 8Y looks like a toy car. The 8V looks agressive but still kind of under the radar/classy.
Edit: It also obviously sounds the best. The 8V pre OPF/PPF is the king of all RS3s in my opinion. But you can also see that in the used car prices, at least here in germany. A 2017/2018 RS3 without a PPF goes for a lot more than a 2019 model with a PPF even though its newer, since nobody wants the RS3 with the PPF.
I agree, I think they messed up the styling on the new 8Y. Too much fake ventage, it looks like a toy just like you said.
And yeah, the 8V facelift pre-OPF and everything before sounds absolutely intoxicating.
What a load of crap. I had the old RS3, now have the new one. New car is in another league and looks wise, no competition, the 8Y looks awesome. End of.

Have you considered that in high speeds aerodynamics can play a role? The sedan might have better aerodynamic and it might explain it gains difference in higher speeds.

I had a little play with an 8Y a few weeks back. Mine is the PFL 367bhp model a stage 1 MRC (425hp), the 8Y had no chance. Il have the advantage over the 8Y for a little while, most owners wont want to invalidate their warranty 😜

Im also a pfl 8v rs3 owner , it gets on my nerves that the mk1 gets respect for its looks and the mk2 8v2 get respect for its daza Engine , but the pfl 8v1 gets no respect even though a fully specd 2015/16 imo is the best looking and sounding rs3 . 8v1 ❤

@@lewiscannon8213 The sound is where the PFL gets its respect. Its the best sounding by an absolute mile. With a map, its very capable car too. I love mine.

nice title. I do have a thing for the older rides. my was the good Ole 22r toyota p/u single cab short bed truck which i did owned 1 time with fully raced out but messed up by selling it off...I could of done more cool things with it but now I'm stuck with a 92 civic si hatch..lol
