- In this video I'm playing a song of mine called "Finally who?" and then we will do a detail comparison of the amps belonging to the Marshall Studio Series: The Studio Vintage (#Plexi), The Studio Classic (#JCM 800) and the Studio Jubilee (Silver #Jubilee). They are all valve amplifiers made in UK, with 2 EL34 valves and 3 12AX7...aimed to reproduce the Classics Marshall amps Plexi, JCM 800 and Silver Jubilee, but in a smaller, lighter and less expensive format. At the end of the demo song, we will describe the main differences between the amps, and then we will hear them, highlighting the specific characteristics of their overdriven tone, clean tone and their responsiveness / dynamic range... I hope you enjoy...and please don't forget to subscribe and hit the notification bell!

Man I wish I had seen this yesterday! I've been searching all youtube for a video like this. The side by side switching is amazing! Keep on rocking Leo.
Thank you very much!!! Your appreciation about my work is really important for me!!!
This is probably the best review out there for these awesome amps, well done!
Thank you Domenic!! Really appreciated!!!
I saw this new series at NAMM 2019 here in Anaheim this January. And finally I ordered the Studio Vintage 20 head and 2x12 cab this week. Can't wait to play. Thank you for a good 3 model head comparison. Good post! Keep them coming!!!
Thank you Jose’, really appreciated and ... enjoy your new amp!
@@LeoGibsonGtr I will! You better believe it! Leo where do you live? Greetings from Los Ángeles California!
This was a great video. Excellent comparison.
Thank you!!!
Fantastic review---really great playing also!!
Thank you!!! Really appreciated!!
Really excellent video, thorough with great playing. Definitely leaning towards the jubilee for the additional EQ options and the master volume. That plexi though sounds the best of them all but non master volume I don’t think I can get a grind out of it without significantly more volume. Thanks for the video!
Hi Chris, thank you so much for the great compliments! and thank you also for sharing your opinion with us!
Great work man, you helped me a lot... I love 80’s metal, and I am thinking about the Jubilee over the Classic, thanks to its versatility.
You have a new subscriber here, you did the best work I’ve seen on comparing these amps.
Greetings from Brazil !
Thank you Eduardo! Really appreciated!!!
There's a bright cap (high pass filter) reversely embedded to the gain knob of sc20. The more you turn it up the less the filter effects your signal. That's why it is sounding thin and bright when it's turned down. You need to turn it up until it sounds full. If you want it to stay clean, just use low input.
Thanks. I just bought one and did not know that.
Cem Saydam the preamp gain knob?
Could honestly buy all of them and be totally happy...
Excellent review, thanks!
Thank you Luca!
Amazing content, really complete and the best comparison methods!
Your content really helped me to choose the alnico blue in your speakers comparison video. Now here I am with more good information.

Thank you so much, I'm really super happy that you like the videos!!! Thank you also for subscribing: it really means a lot to me!!!
Io lo so che sei italiano! ahahaha ho adorato il video, sei stato pedissequo nelle spiegazioni e si vede l'amore per quello che fai!!! Grandissimo :) Saluti da Milano!
Grazie! 😊
Excellent job with the demo! New subscriber here.
Thank you! Really appreciated!
Leo, your UA-cam channel is amazing!
Thank you sooooo much, I'm really happy that you like the channel!!!
Just bought the SV20, thanks to you man. Try the Celestion IR in the WOS, they're great (est. the Greenbacks and V30 for the Marshall). Thanks.
Thanks Emmanuel! The SV 20 is great and the Celestion IRs are the perfect companions!
Good video, I was hoping you were going to pick the Plexi. That will be my next amp. I think it is the history of the SLP 100watt that also helps with the decision.
Thank you Michael! Actually the PLEXI is a great amp...that I use more and more...it's amazing!
I have the SV and the mini Jube, kick ass amps:) nice review!
Thank you Ken! I agree with you!
what’s clean channel do you prefer among 2 heads?
I traded my jube for the 800 no regrets all 3 good
@@-rubbersoul- boosted jube is nice with single coils
thx for doing this man. really nice work brotha. 👌
and i absolutely agree with your inputs. jubilee is more versatile due to its 2 channel switchable via FS. i rarely do gigs likely 70% at hone use only. but when i play live with my band SJ is better for me. but i wanna try that plexi also cause hey it’s what marshall are known of. for classic nah i can get that tone in my SJ as well
Thank you Chris! For me the SV / Plexi has that something special that makes me wanna play it always more...
Thank you for your comment
Very nice review! SV20 sounds best for me.
Thank you! Appreciated!!
The modern amps all have extra toys but the Plexi has that tone that is the perfect Marshall, SV20 for me
Hi Alan, thank you for sharing! I also love the SV20...
Dig your playing man. I just bought the SV20 (which hasn't been delivered because they're extremely popular and backordered here in the States). My bandmate bought the SC20 and has it. I come from a '70's music background and always wanted a Plexi. They were always too expensive and LOUD! Anyway, thanks for the comparison! Rock on brother!
Thank you! I've always dreamed of having these 3 amps because they rapresents a piece of history of guitars and rock music in general and thanks to this "downsized" versions I can now try all of them... good choice here from Marshall!
Thank you for your comment!
Nice review. I own a SV20H with a 1922 cab, and I loved this combination. Have you tried a Marshall 1974x? Its like a plexi combo in 18w, celestion green back 1x12 aged speaker… its handwired, do u think hadwired will make any difference in playing feel ir sound? Thanks for review and attention to the viewers messages.
Hi Marcelo, I have not tried the 1974x unfortunately. Handwiring should guarantee for a better overall quality...but it's hard to tell if you are gonna feel the difference...I guess, you can...but alone and listening carefully...in a band contest, I think it's gonna be pretty hard to notice the differences.
Thank you!
Hello Leo. Great review and playing. I purchased the vintage but it was to loud to be used at home. I need an amp that can be used at home as well as for gigging. I had the 2525H when it first came out a few years ago but sold it. I now own the 2525 combo which I feel is much more versatile. Great Marshall amp at comfortable volume.
Hi, thank you for your compliments and for your message!
Hi Nicola, the SV requires pretty high volume to be cracked. On the other hand you can obtain distorted sounds from the Jubilee and the SC at low volume (because they have master volume) and here I prefer the SC.
All of the three amps are great pedal platforms...but once more... the SV20 has that something more...the sound I love the most is the one of the SV20 with an attenuator.
Thank you for your question!
Hey Leo. This is the best review on youtube for those amplifiers !
Have you tried Marshall JVM series? Any opinion on those? Maybe you could do some reviews of those :) I am very interested in how ''plexi'' they could get. For sure they are more versatile than studio series.
Thanks :)
Hi, actually I’ve not tried the jvm unfortunately... but I’ve to say that I’m pretty interested in the JVM 410 Satriani one... I’m waiting for a good second hand occasion... thank you for your message and your interest in my channel!!!!
Hey, great video! But I think at 9:15 there's something wrong. Before you say on channel 1 is the SV and on 4 the SC. But then when you make the first test you say it the other way around.
Hi, you are actually right, thank you for letting me know! At 9:12 I was right, at 9:38 I was wrong and then right again since 10:25. Channel 1 is dedicated to the SV...thank you once more for your message!!!
I listen without looking and when I hear the section that I like, I look to see what he’s playing. Every time I see the SC. So my choice is obvious. I pick the 800.
Nice method...Thank you for sharing!
Marshall's amp line up is killer! All the 3 of them are awesome at what they're supposed to do and true to the originals where it needs to be. How do you think the SV20 compares to the Origin Series? The Origins are quite cheap nowadays... I wish Fender would also deliver reissues of their classic amps in more practical and affordable formats. You can get classic Marshall and Vox tones for decent money, but for a Fender backface tone there's nothing below 1000 euros...
Hi, I agree with you with Fender. I love Fender amps...but for instance it's pretty incomprehensible for me why there is not an head only version of a fender deluxe reverb or twin reverb...you are oblige to buy it with the cab...
As regards the SV20, I really love it and to me the sound is really close to the 100w, the only cons is that in live situations, if you are playing with a loud drummer...the volume could be not enough.
Thank a lot for that great work ! Are you Orville Fender's cousin ?
Thank you Eric! I'm not a cousin of Orville... :)
Thank you for your video Leo: tremendous work! The most thorough comparison I have seen: Kudos !
If I had to choose one, it would probably be the SV20. I always prefer a very dynamic amp over more « specialized » ones like the SC or the Jubilee. Cheers.
Thank you so much, I'm happy that you like the video! Yes, I also love the SV 20...it is so dynamic...maybe, if you want to hear it even ore in action, you can check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/2_YtxedSW1M/v-deo.html
hello, can you advise me I would like to buy an amp to play the hendrix, srv pink floyd, I thought of the prs hdrx 20, fender 68 vibrochamp custom reverb 5w or the marshall studio sv20h. which one would you advise me.. or maybe you have another idea. THANKS
Hi, I would say Marshall SV20... it's a little Plexi, at a fraction of the price of the 1959 SLP...I love it, and I think it's a good choice in order to het an Hendrix tone.
Thank you!
Let me guess, you didn‘t put the jubilee to more than 6 on the master volume, right? I ask cause the jubilees open up SIGNIFICANTLY at about 6 1/2 with a sweet spot being around 7 to 7 1/2 and the slight fizziness and thinness I hear in your demo completely disappears at this point
Hi, actually for the lead tones of the demo song and the overdriven tones of the video comparison starting at 9:27 I set the master and gain of all the 3 amps to their maximum level (I said it at 9:27). Thank you for your question!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Oh I haven't actually listened to this section, lol ;-)
I was just referring to the rhythm section of the opening song. Sorry my bad. That being said, I wouldn't go far past 8 on the gain of the jubilee as it will get pretty muddy above.
But nonetheless a great comparison!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Oh and after watching the whole video I fell like an idiot now
No problem , I really appreciate your messages and your interest in my work! Thank you!
Which one amp for the real tone to slash
Hi Fabian, Slash uses many Marshall amps, but his first signature one is based on the Silver Jubilee. You can find much more info here www.slashparadise.com/equipment/amps-slash.php.
Thank you for your question!
Hotrodded jmp for the appetite sound... they dont really make a mini like that. For a use your illusion- ISH tone the jubilee comes closest, for his recent sound, it's totally different again. , if you dont have the right heavy pick attack, ability to use guitars volume, and ability to dial in an amp to it's own sweet spot, it doesnt matter if you buy HIS amp, it wont sound like his tone. His tone revolves around his playing style and your amp should do the same for you, unless you are in a gnr tribute band.
The Jubilee is made for clean tones not distorted.
No way
Studio jubilee oh yeah
Thank you for sharing!
... per caso sito veneto?
🤣
lo Studio Vintage è il piu hendrixiano dei 3. se non avessi problemi di volume in casa lo comprerei al volo..
Ciao Silvio, l'SV20 è proprio bello e ben suonante...
Grazie del messaggio!
Just bought vintage and classic with respective cabs. There is nothing like this mix.
Yes, these are great amps!!! Thank you for sharing!
I want them all lol.. but if I had to choose, I would go for plexi
Hi Antonio, thank you for sharing your opinion with us...I love that little plexi!!!
I didn't hear any difference
Then go ahead and buy a Roland Cube. ;)
@@jazztom86 oh snap
To me they all have too much fuzzy uncontrollable distortion. Without an overdrive they are just useless.
Suggestions?
