Oh wow, your riffs are catchy as! One of the best comparison videos I’ve seen of these amps simply because your playing rocks so hard! I’m getting the JCM800 version but it was close between that and the SV20H. You’ve inspired me! ✌️
Thanks to your reviews I(Much to the dismay of my wife :-D ) just ordered a JCM800 studio and a Bugera powersoak... Your channel is almost as brilliant as your playing.
In a Jake E Lee mood for this one? Jake stuff is great. P.S. This has rapidly become one of my favourite guitar channels. Nice wide mix of lessons, good playing, info on how to do stuff, and gear talk.
Few seconds into the song and I started to get this feeling that this sounds so familiar... And if not before, then at 2:52 to this video, I realized that it sounded a lot like Jake E Lee's playing! Very well played, very well indeed! Good job. All amps sound pretty much identical through my headphones though. I suppose there's a difference though, but not with these settings and in a mix. I was just watching a video of Ola Englund trying out 10 different guitars through the same amp. I don't know if he tweaked the amp settings, but they sounded pretty similar aswell. Even the single coil ~200 euros Squier (yea, there was a difference but it wasn't as massive as the difference in pickups and price). Tone has got to be in the fingers 😄!
Mini 800 all the way, but I have to admit that Mini Plexi sounds fantastic. Awesome playing and awesome song as always. Thank you for taking the time to play all 3. 👍🤘🤘
Man, I can’t pick which I like the most!! All sound great. The SD-1 really is an underrated overdrive too. Low cost but great tones. Great playing Euge!
Thanks JC! Yeah they’re all great but if I had to choose it’d be: 800, Plexi, Jube It is. I’ve been using one since early 90s and haven’t found better 😎.
You guys will be amazed that the $500 DSL20HR keeps up with all three of these. Not that I wouldn't want all three. Great sounding amps for sure. I use IRs.
I agree. I have all three of these and the DSL20HR. The SC is the least versatile and it's tone can be gotten easily with the SV. My favs are the SV and DSL. They cover it all!
Not sure how I missed this gem! Best comparison out there on these 3 (Deraps also did a great one)! Cool how each mini has the same benefits or drawbacks as the original larger amps! The Plexi needs an attenuator, the 800 needs a pedal or two for better gain - and the Jubilee has the diodes, and the EQ is very different.
Great job! Amazing playing. I have that Silver Jubilee head with the matching cabinet, and I really love it. I don’t think you can go wrong with these heads; I could get along well with any one of these.

Nice video, they all sound awesome. Perhaps the only addition that would have been nice at the conclusion area, is having you demo the song playing with only the amps, but edit the video to flip thru the amps during the song, then the viewers can REALLY get an idea of tone difference. I accomplished the same thing by jumping back and forth thru the video, but having it already done woulda been much nicer! You talk to the camera pretty quiet heh.
Yeah I thought about that but then I’d have had to record a DI signal and reamp and in general I’m not that big fan of that ’cos you don’t get the vibe of the amp (as a player) and getting the vibe is a huge part of the playing. At least for me 😎. Or I could’ve edited the separate takes together but then the playing would’ve been a bit odd I guess ’cos they’d have been, well, separate takes with separate amps 😊. Oh really? I tried to mix the voice and guitar audio to about the same levels in Final Cut but maybe I tend to have the guitar always louder ’cos who likes their own voice anyways 😁.

Wow , i really like the boosted Plexi sound !!! The JCM800 is also great , but i like the Plexi more , it has that something ! I think with a big 50 watt Plexi (1987x) will be able to get even more low end punch and even more depth in sound ! The 20 watts heads , because of the small output and power transformers they have , will always sound brighter and without too much low end compared to the 50 watt or 100 watt models . Great clip ! \m/
Great stuff! The funny thing is that SJ can come as close as you like to have it to both, Plexi and 800 just by playing around with pots. Not to mention it is a proper 2 channel amp 😉 I own 2555X and it sounds just stunning, just like a roaring Marshall 800, Plexi with mids/hights level as you would expect from it. Even without SD1 which consumes a little bit some of Marshall clarity and edge. Again, great job here mate.
@@EugeValovirta230V Euge, I'm looking for an affordable but still good attenuator - I'd like to run it over my SJ 2555X and VM 2466 (another great Marshall!). What could you recommend?
I used to use a Bugera (can’t remember the model now) for a while before I bought the St:Rock (which is the best I’ve wver tried / used) and it did the job just fine I think.
It is hilarious watching you demo these now. In my recent quest over the past months to decide whether these were any good and if they sound anything like the real thing, I came across your channel and it was the sound of your 'real' amps - the 800s, JVM etc that put me off ever buying one of these 20W ones. They just don't have the mojo that your big amps do.
Yes I agree! Probably I am too used to 100 waters. Alas I just don't like these 20w, in my opinion in no review do they sound convincing. I bought a Mesa 5 25 head instead which seemed way more large sounding for its 25w than it ought to.
Great video as always my friend, they are all great "not surprisingly ". I would probably lean towards the 800 as they have always been my favorite but they are all great amplifiers. 👍🤘
I have the mini Plexi...using it nice and full and clean - normal channel and getting the tones from JHS' pedals (Angry CHarlie and AT+), will buy soon a Friedman BE OD Deluxe...the amp is Killer sounding with pedals if you cannot turn it up. Best review on youtube with these 3 amps!!!
There is a problem with your videos. If you decide to use walkie-talkie as an amp, it would probably sound great :). Good work, absolutely my favorite guitar gear channel.
The plexi and 800 tied for 1st place….the jube is close 2nd; all 3 are great!!! These are cool little amps, Marshall hit a home run with this mini series…. -ROCK ‘N’ ROLL-
Thanks! Standard stoptail but I have Evertune on one ESP which I use every now & then. Mainly when I need to record multiple guitar parts / harmonies / wide chords etc. I actually recorded most of the rhythm gtr tracks on Cyhra’s latest album ’No Halos In Hell’ with an Evertune equipped guitar 😎👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V I am quite interested in how that unit goes with IRs. How to get the power amp crunching sound without a power amp especially. I used to have one in my 20s with the dual monobloc poweramp and a 1960a. I traded it for a Digitech 2112 Artist preamp FX and a Mesa poweramp. I could not get a sound I liked from the JMP-1. Years later I saw Iron Maiden using them and they sounded great. Duh. I did not start playing until I was 16. I was so clueless about how to get the sounds. I would bug guitar players at gigs asking them questions and trying their gear etc. Made a proper pain in the butt of myself until I learned. No UA-cam to teach us that stuff back then.
This is great Euge, and demonstrates the most important impact is the playing, after that it's just personal preference. For me that would be the plexi and the 800, but the jubilee is great too. When does any Marshall fail?
Giday mate, from Australia love your channel your an awesome player. I was wondering if these 20w amps would keep up with a drummer in a band situation or would have to be miced up?
If you can only have one which one would it be the Jubilee 20 watt or the 20 watt 800. Does the 20 Watt 800 sound close to the hundred watt version? Which One out of the three did you like the best
I think maybe the 800 sounds best out of these mini studio heads. What I think I'm hearing is the 800 sounds most focused w not too big of bottom which in my mind seems it would fit in a mix better without EQing after the fact. The studio plexi I like too but seems a little less exciting and probably too loud and have to use attenuator and I have those problems w my 50 watt already so I'd just use that. This studio classic 800 gets the tone good at lower volumes and thats what I need. The silver jube was cool too but a little more hairy and maybe too much bottom. I did like the tone cleaned up on the neck pickup w the Jube. Thanks for the demo.
Awesome demo dude. That 800 is the tone I hear as classic rock/metal that can go back to cover UFO up to Scorpions, to classic Anthrax to Zakk. What more could you wish for. Awesome playing dude. Love it. What wah pedal are you using dude, because the sweep is really nice?
Hi Euge.. Is the Marshall studio vintage a killer amp for early Van Halen sounds? I' ll buy one next month. Please let me know and thanks from Austria Chris!🤟🔥🤟
@@EugeValovirta230V thanks so much.. Please is it possible to make a video from the marshall studio vintage with early Van Halen Riffs or Licks because you are the Rockstar!👏👏👏👏🤟🔥🤟🔥 That would be great.. Thanks soooo much Chris!
You’re welcome man! Unfortunately no since I borrowed all the Studio series amps from local music store MusiX and don’t have them anymore but I have my 1987X which is a 50 watt Plexi so I’ll add this to my to do - list 😎👌.
Your playing is friggin AMAZING! But your shootouts are not fair. 😢 How about doing them without the SD1 or anything else, just straight gain out of the amp?
@@EugeValovirta230V no you did, but you did it without any music behind it. Do it while you’re jamming those awesome jams that you do.. in other words don’t even make it an option. Just the amp with no overdrive or any other pedals
I do obviously what I want to do and how I use/would use the gear and if people find that useful; great. If they don’t; it’s ok they can watch other videos.
Euge, you’re 🎸playing never ceases to amaze me and constantly has me practicing more….I’ve been wondering for a while now what sounds more like the Bad Boy in the room the studio series JCM 800 , or the Blug iridium?
Thanks! It’s been quite a while since I did this video and played with the Studio series amps (I borrowed them from a local music store MusiX) but the AMP1 Iridium is so close, feel & tone wise that I’d say that 🤟.
So, what do you lose in using the little amps compared to the 100W in terms of sound quality. Not concerned about volume, just the actual sound itself.
Bigger transformers etc. so a bigger tone / sound. The Marshall 20 watters are really good ’cos they use EL34s (many other smaller amps has EL84s) so the sound is pretty much like on a 100watt but just not as big / massive with the same volume / loudness.
@@EugeValovirta230V so for home studio use, sending amp into say a Two Notes Torpedo Studio into interface into studio monitors, there would not be much benefit in the sound of 100w vs 20w. On stage with cabs different story?
There’s a bit. I mean there’s a reason why all my Marshalls are 100 watters😎. Except my Plexi which is 50 watt ’cos I like that more than a 100 watt Plexi 👌.
Great video man. All 3 amps sound fantastic, but I felt the SJ was a bit buried in the mix. It definitely lacks a bit of that Marshall upper mids character. Was it challenging EQing the SJ?
@@EugeValovirta230V Thanks. Always nice to know which amp you personally preferred after your comprehensive demo. As for myself, I would prefer the jubilee - a better fit for my style. Nice one.
Obviously the mini 800"The JCM 800 is King"! Then this would be the PRINCE bro!! Plus the Yellow drive!!!...Quick question Euge, in your humble opinion are these 20 watters loud enough to overcome a hard hitting drummer with DW's? (if you know what I mean)...Nice Vid as always
Euge, another fantastic comparison.. the SC 20 in red/black snakeskin is on my list now.. but so is the SV 20 for old school ACDC riffage.. curious.. in your IR's what are you go- to speakers for the 4x12.. thanks man.. 💪
Plexi for the win for me but that’s an opinion! Brings back happy memories of when I used to have my 1980 modded 1959 spl with cascaded pre amp section and the few times I actually managed to get to crank it which was very seldom 😭😭😭😭
Euge Valovirta I’m thinking mabey its time to save just 20€ per week and get an sv20h from Santa and from 2022 > get some Marshall tones going...! Your heavy tones are very inspiring to the point of me thinking fuck all this clean ish on the edge of brake up tones I’ve been chasing and struggling with for the past few years due to not being able to crank up clean amps enough to make them work and just go back to Marshall crunch and just have guitar singing at reasonable gig volume and in the process actually find my own sound rather than chasing someone else’s tone!
That could be the way to go 💪👌. Yeah there isn’t really any point to try to sound like someone else ’cos that’s pretty much impossible ’cos we all have our own hands that we play with and those two are the biggest factors on anybody’s sound. At least in my experience 👌.
So, what's the story with the owl? It's in every studio video. I love those little harmonics you threw in the riff. how's the plexi for your chicken pickin country stuff?
To tell you the truth I think the Plexi sounds the best with your signature guitar and the type of licks and riffs you were playing, hard driving metal the JCM SC20H really adds that sonic bombast!
The Jub sounds most scooped of the 3. The Sykes-riffs sound best with the Jub! I like the 800 best, the Vintage has a little too much fluffy bass..... Or am I wrong? Ow, I didn't mind listening to the song 3 times!! It's awesome! Cheers
You have to really crank the mids on a Jubilee to something around 8 or so on most of them, then it has those same juicy mids as the 800 and Plexi. It has a quite unusual EQ compared to the other classic Marshalls and is quite a bit brighter by "default" settings.
Oh wow, your riffs are catchy as! One of the best comparison videos I’ve seen of these amps simply because your playing rocks so hard! I’m getting the JCM800 version but it was close between that and the SV20H. You’ve inspired me! ✌️

They just don't have the mojo that your big amps do.
These are great but there is a reason why a 100w Marshall is...well...a 100w Marshall 💪🔥😎.
Yes I agree! Probably I am too used to 100 waters. Alas I just don't like these 20w, in my opinion in no review do they sound convincing. I bought a Mesa 5 25 head instead which seemed way more large sounding for its 25w than it ought to.
👌💪😎
Great video as always my friend, they are all great "not surprisingly ". I would probably lean towards the 800 as they have always been my favorite but they are all great amplifiers. 👍🤘
Thanks Dan! I agree 👌.
Wow. Great playing.
Plexi in the song sounded the best for me, biggest tone.
John Sykes vibe. Great tone and playing.
Thanks! 😎🤟
Man... you did an excellent job. Really like your videos, man. Thanks for sharing!! 👍🏼
Thanks! 🙏
Yeah it works great with od / preamp pedals too 👌🔥. Thanks man!
Holy sheeeet!! What did I just witness?! This dude is insane. Tone, phrasing, style and speed. You need to be on a stage every night. 🤘🏼
😎🕺🤟
There is a problem with your videos. If you decide to use walkie-talkie as an amp, it would probably sound great :). Good work, absolutely my favorite guitar gear channel.
😎🤟. Thanks!
Your chops are righteous, my dude 🤘
Thanks! 🙏
Great sound 80s style,Thanks Bro
Thanks man!
All three amps sound great. For my taste I think I like the Plexi the best.
👌🤟💪
Amazing Euge!!!! regards from Chile!! beautifull sound!! great amps!!!
Many thanks!!
Great Song,awesome playing 😍very groovy! 🤘🥳😀
Thanks Luk!
love your videos!
Glad you like them! Thanks!
Awesome website you got to!
Thanks!
Hey Euge, you made them all sound great but like the versatility of the Jubilee best!
Thanks Steve!
@@EugeValovirta230V You’re welcome Euge and really enjoy your channel! Also have a Waza SD-1 on order and can’t wait!
Glad to hear man! Cool!
You make them all sound amazing but I like the cut and bark of the the 800 the best.
💪🙏😎
The plexi and 800 tied for 1st place….the jube is close 2nd; all 3 are great!!! These are cool little amps, Marshall hit a home run with this mini series…. -ROCK ‘N’ ROLL-
Yeah! 🤟
Awesome Playing!
Thanks a lot!
Amazing as always Euge !! 🤘🏼 Do you prefer the stoptail or the evertune bridge on your eclipses ?
Thanks!
Standard stoptail but I have Evertune on one ESP which I use every now & then. Mainly when I need to record multiple guitar parts / harmonies / wide chords etc. I actually recorded most of the rhythm gtr tracks on Cyhra’s latest album ’No Halos In Hell’ with an Evertune equipped guitar 😎👌.
awesome playing and video
Many thanks!!
Hi Yudge you will make a video for Marshall JMP-1 Preamp
I used to have one back in the day but not anymore. But if I get my hands on one then sure! 👌😎
I have had two of them. I wouldn't bother...plexi, 800, jubilees all blow it away.
Yeah would be cool to try it out again. I liked it and used it like any amp: SD-1 in front and rawk n roll! 😎👌
This guy is top on playing and review 👍 have to see his music
Thanks!
Here’s some: www.eugevalovirta.com/discography
Have the plexi in the snake skin edition its really awesome and loud!!
Cool! 💪🔥❤️
Euge, love the Sykes Riffage on the 800
Thanks! Glad to hear!
This is great Euge, and demonstrates the most important impact is the playing, after that it's just personal preference. For me that would be the plexi and the 800, but the jubilee is great too. When does any Marshall fail?
Thanks!
Basically never in my experience 😎.
Jcm900
Hi Euge , as always you make awesome reviews, can you make one with strymon iridium and your IR🙏
Thanks! If I can get my hands on one someday 👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V thanks 🤘
Hi! Congratulations on your channel! Which do you prefer for playing high gain metal, DSL 20 or Silver Jub 2525?
Giday mate, from Australia love your channel your an awesome player. I was wondering if these 20w amps would keep up with a drummer in a band situation or would have to be miced up?
If you can only have one which one would it be the Jubilee 20 watt or the 20 watt 800. Does the 20 Watt 800 sound close to the hundred watt version? Which One out of the three did you like the best
800 💪👌. Yes it does.
👌🤟🙏
Awesome demo dude. That 800 is the tone I hear as classic rock/metal that can go back to cover UFO up to Scorpions, to classic Anthrax to Zakk. What more could you wish for. Awesome playing dude. Love it. What wah pedal are you using dude, because the sweep is really nice?
Thanks!
Can’t remember what I used on this one but one of these: Dunlop Hendrix, Fulltone Clyde Deluxe or Dunlop Petrucci 👌.
Hi Euge..
Is the Marshall studio vintage a killer amp for early Van Halen sounds?
I' ll buy one next month.
Please let me know and thanks from Austria
Chris!🤟🔥🤟
IMO yes 👌
@@EugeValovirta230V thanks so much..
Please is it possible to make a video from the marshall studio vintage with early Van Halen Riffs or Licks because you are the Rockstar!👏👏👏👏🤟🔥🤟🔥
That would be great..
Thanks soooo much
Chris!
You’re welcome man! Unfortunately no since I borrowed all the Studio series amps from local music store MusiX and don’t have them anymore but I have my 1987X which is a 50 watt Plexi so I’ll add this to my to do - list 😎👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V thanks soooo much.
Great Euge!!!💪💪💪💪
Nice :)
Some Iron Maiden, EVH and Sykes there, cool.
😎🙏🤟
SC20H rhythm 3:27 - 2525H rhythm 7:39 - SV20H rhythm 12:16
👌🤟🙏
Sounds great bro!!!!
Thanks C!
You are wellcome E!!!!
you got a tab for this ? I mean yeah E minor is awesome but hell this is very good
Pepita can't really stop dancing to such a song \m/
No he can’t 🕺😎
They all sound awesome in their own way, i’d go with the jcm800 though since i can’t afford all three hehe.
Exactly. 800 is my favourite also.
Your playing is friggin AMAZING! But your shootouts are not fair. 😢 How about doing them without the SD1 or anything else, just straight gain out of the amp?
Thanks! I didn’t do that? Sorry 😎
Guitar tabs for its!? 😇🤩 awesome playing 🤩🤩🤩
Which of the three did you like the most? What amplifier has pulled more from you
Gracias Emilio.
800
@@EugeValovirta230V Muchas Gracias.
Tanks
Emilio
It would be cool if you could review a Magnatone Super Fifteen head
Great video man. All 3 amps sound fantastic, but I felt the SJ was a bit buried in the mix. It definitely lacks a bit of that Marshall upper mids character. Was it challenging EQing the SJ?
Thanks! Nope.
Great Video! Do you use any attenuators in this video or in general?
Wicked. Which one would you buy?
800 💪
@@EugeValovirta230V Thanks. Always nice to know which amp you personally preferred after your comprehensive demo. As for myself, I would prefer the jubilee - a better fit for my style. Nice one.
Obviously the mini 800"The JCM 800 is King"! Then this would be the PRINCE bro!! Plus the Yellow drive!!!...Quick question Euge, in your humble opinion are these 20 watters loud enough to overcome a hard hitting drummer with DW's? (if you know what I mean)...Nice Vid as always
Yeah! 💪😎
They’re pretty damn loud so I think so. Here’s a video about that 😊: ua-cam.com/video/Eyc9wTPERzg/v-deo.html
Awesome review! A good player can really draw out each amplifiers sound. Plexi for me.
Thanks!
Euge, another fantastic comparison.. the SC 20 in red/black snakeskin is on my list now.. but so is the SV 20 for old school ACDC riffage.. curious.. in your IR's what are you go- to speakers for the 4x12.. thanks man.. 💪
Thanks! I use Jens Bogren’s IRs and don’t really know what gear was used ’cos ”if it sounds good it’s good” and that’s all I care 👌.
Plexi for the win for me but that’s an opinion! Brings back happy memories of when I used to have my 1980 modded 1959 spl with cascaded pre amp section and the few times I actually managed to get to crank it which was very seldom 😭😭😭😭
😁💪👌
He is a guardian owl from Lapland called Pepita 😎.
Works just 👌.
To tell you the truth I think the Plexi sounds the best with your signature guitar and the type of licks and riffs you were playing, hard driving metal the JCM SC20H really adds that sonic bombast!
Yeah! 💪🔥
The Jub sounds most scooped of the 3. The Sykes-riffs sound best with the Jub! I like the 800 best, the Vintage has a little too much fluffy bass..... Or am I wrong? Ow, I didn't mind listening to the song 3 times!! It's awesome! Cheers
I agree with you 😎💪.
You have to really crank the mids on a Jubilee to something around 8 or so on most of them, then it has those same juicy mids as the 800 and Plexi. It has a quite unusual EQ compared to the other classic Marshalls and is quite a bit brighter by "default" settings.
