    For people wanting to know. Hatchling cresties do move fast and jump quite a bit but after a few months they usually calm down. I would handle mine while sitting on my bed, so if she would jump she would have a soft landing and couldn't go far

      Yeah, and some of them are soooo tiny 😮 so very delicate too.

    I got my crestie 3 years and 10 months ago on Christmas day. She was 2 weeks old at the time. It took a while for her to get used to handling, with about 15 min of handling per day, after a week of her getting used to her new home. Now she is amazing, will sit on you hand or shoulder until you put her back in her tank. Doesnt poop on me either, she only did it once.

I've been researching cresties and how to get one for 5 months in total before I got him I pretty much won the lottery because he was surprisingly cheap, healthy, and started eating shortly after I got him.

    I hatched my Cresty from an egg (my friend is a breeder and gave me a good setup) also I go to his place every second afternoon to check on the new guys and feed them while he is working and from what I can tell they still have the same personality as babies but there always more jumpy and energetic. So some babies are fairly calm and they grow up to be super calm and some are super energetic and grow up to be really energetic haha

    Hey, as for baby crested geckos, most are jumpy and fast and can run up your arm in a second, some are calm, and some are pretty much un-handleable because of how crazy they are, especially if it’s during the night. Unfortunately I found that out the hard way with my 2 month old crestie who was the third option. I almost lost him several times as he used to jump off me within a few seconds and sprint as fast as he could away and up the wall if possible. Up until he was about 6 months old I could only handle him in the day when he was sleepier, and even then it was pretty rare because he got very stressed by it. Generally as they turn into juveniles they become much better, as did mine, I can now hold him no worries at 11 months old. Oh and Rebecca, I don’t think the pooping is that common, mine has never done it, and a friend of mine who owns 8 geckos only had it happen with one of them.

    This video came at a great time! I’ve had my crestie for about 2 weeks now, she’s about 8 months old. I’ve been placing my hand in her tank in front of her to see if she’ll climb on, but typically she stares for about 8 seconds and then backs away 😅 Ive heard some people say you should just go for it and scoop them up but I’m unsure because I don’t even know if she’s adjusted yet, not sure if she’s eating yet (I’ve managed to hand feed her though)

    • @CadenKunich
      @CadenKunich 4 роки тому

      I would start handling because it has been 2 weeks and it should only take 2-3 days. I would love a sub:)

    • @markadams5009
      @markadams5009 4 роки тому +1

      Agreed, you just have to start handling her. After a few sessions she typically should calm down quickly once out of the cage and be quite content to spend time with you and even tolerate gentle petting on the head. As she gets older she should also get better with handling too. I'd recommend looking at her feeding dish daily and you should be able to see if she has eaten anything or not.

    • @bluedraygon3545

      idk if she'll respond so I will- what I did was I put in a bunch of mealworms into my Leo's bowl and left it there overnight to see how much she'd eat. (because Leo's don't normally overeat)

    • @markadams5009
      @markadams5009 4 роки тому

      She has a video that has a chart that goes over how often and around how much to feed a lepoard gecko. Up to 1 year old feed like every day. Then less often when older. I feed my 2 year old leo like 10 to 15 mealworms every 4 to 5 days. He's definitely not skinny. I certainly enjoy him as he was my first reptile. Although I only have the one lepoard gecko and I have 4 crested geckos. They are easier to care for in my opinion plus they handle better as well and take up less space since then need tall tanks (and don't require heat or light if you keep your home temperature around 70 to 80) whereas, the lepoard gecko needs a long tank plus a heat mat and thermostat. Cresties eat a powder diet you mix with water (plus you can feed them insects but you don't have to). Leo's of course will only eat live insects and nothing else. I just buy mealworms and store them in the fridge in wheat germ.

    I think talking about how to take your gecko out of their enclosure would have been a good topic. I have a new to me crested gecko and I’m still trying to figure out how to get him out without freaking him out too much or being rough

    • @markadams5009
      @markadams5009 4 роки тому

      I have 4 crested geckos. One of them will actually come to me to get out of the cage. The other 3 definitely won't lol. Honestly, you just have to reach in and pick them up. Or if you can't get to them you have to herd them to the cage top or front where you can get them. All mine handle quite well once they are out of their cages and calm down quickly. I've found crested geckos to be quite content to sit with you for long periods of time. I love my lepoard gecko as well but he won't sit still for long. My cresties also seem to be quite content with soft petting on the head. Good luck.

    OMG, you mentioned handling in a reptile shop. So when we went to the reptile store to hold a leo, obviously the first one I held I fell in love with and we walked out. with it and we were thinking to get one 1 or 2 months later but no we got it that day. Then 3-4 months later we went again to go look at cresties and you can guess what happened, we walked out with one. Lol:) And also when we where holding the crestie it overshot my hand because it was flat not angled and landed on the floor with a splat. I will say my mom let out a scream because she thought we might of killed it or hurt it then I said "they are fine, they do that from trees to escape predators, don't doubt me I did my research" I said. It was kinnda funny how our family goes to hold a pet and walks out with it every time. Have a great day and keep making the best videos on youtube:)

      Haha yeah I was able to hold a baby leachie in a shop once and as I went to put it back in the cage, it leapt off of my hand onto the floor! I was like 'OH NO!' and the lady laughed and said they do that all the time, its okay :')

    Hi leopard gecko! I know this is off topic and u probably won’t see this but my leo keeps getting her teeth stuck in reptile carpet and I want to switch to something else but idk what to switch to I’m thinking about tile and I just wanted to know if u have any suggestions and also right now I’m using a 10 gal cause she’s just a baby but I wanted to know if I should switch to my 50 gal or how old I should let her get before I do. Thx even tho u probably won’t see this lol ❤️

      You probably should temporarily switch to paper towels, and then to tile or a sand mat. I’m not an expert tho 🤷‍♀️

    To me crested geckos feel like soft marshmallow on they belly's and a very very fine sandpaper feeling on there back. To me there feet are just soft pads.

    i’m getting a leopard gecko and i’m trying to find a 35-30 gallon front opening tank, do you suggest any 35-30 gallon front opening tanks?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 4 роки тому

      Exo Terra has front opening tanks of that size and a bit bigger. They’re expensive brand new but you can often find them secondhand on sites like Craigslist for cheaper. PVC enclosures are an option as well but are expensive. I’d go for a bigger tank if possible.

    Not really related to the video but I had to share. I've had my leopard gecko Bernard for 3 weeks now, he eats like a champ and wiggles the tip of his tail like a dog when he is about it catch the prey. He doesn't mind being handled but is a bit riggly. If I bring him out the cage it's only when he's perfectly still for five mins but I love letting him scurry across me.
    Questions?
    The shop said he was old enough to leave, he is the right length but is only 8g when everything else says he should be 18g, is he just going to be a small gecko or did we get him younger than 8 weeks?
    I really want to start taking him out more and letting him play on me but I don't trust him to not run under a couch or something, should I just wait until he doesn't run so much or do it in a safer place?
    Thankyou for reading

    Hi there, Quick question if that’s ok! I live in a apartment block and I’m worried that a crested would make too much noise during the day/night. Do they ‘chirp’ or call out at all? Thanks

      @@markadams5009 haha, in their defence they can be really adorable. My dotty is a very sweet tokay most of the time its just she is very very fast (almost as fast as my large forest gecko and they are a very speedy hyperactive gecko). Problems start when you try to put her back when she aint ready thats when she starts barking and opening her mouth haha :D

    My three month old (I think) male leopard gecko has lighter colored poop he's been having this light colored poop ever since I got him two months ago. I've been doing a lot of research and I can't see where I'm going wrong. He's hydrated, not using sand I'm using eco earth, warm hide, cool hide, moist hide, and an extra hide just so he was enough places to hide. I give him a variety of foods like meal worms and crickets, I give him supliments and he has a calcium dish in his cage. He's acted completely normal and has only perfect sheds since I got him. He's a healthy weight and I don't seem to know what's going on. If any person reading this has a suggestion I would be so great full!

      I have 4 cresties. They will quickly grow accustomed to handling. You can start out kinda sitting turned sideways on your bed so that you don't need to worry if it jumps. I also like to feed my cresties a little Pangea when I handle them. I use these long wooden shish kabob skewers they sell at Walmart like 100 for a dollar. I'll feed them a little out of the cup of Pangea I make up to put in their tank. I don't sit there and feed them everything I mix up just part of it, and then I'll put the food cup in the tank when I put the gecko back up. (Honestly I'll usually sit them in a little 6 quart container when I'm done handling them and then I'll go spray their tank and put the food up and change out the water in their water dish. Then I'll get the gecko and put them on a bar in their tank. They love those Fluker's adjustable bamboo bars. I've also got some of the large size bendable vines and they like hanging out on those also.

      They need a vertical enclosure. Adults need an 18x18x24 minimum (but bigger is better). You could use a glass enclosure like an Exo Terra or you could convert a plastic bin.
