With the cage you are using the holes in the back are made for cords to go through. You can thread decoration and leaves through the holes and then slide the slider on the lid to secure them.

Lucky, I would like to spend 700 USD for my second baby (I'm overkilling everything by getting an Xtra large vivarium, heaters, bioactive, lights, foam backgrounds, alot of plants, feeder setups, alot of food types and stuff) but you see I don't even have a job and I was planning on starting work this year until... I am starting to question my sanity however, an I'm wondering if I even should go work as I'm a total social wreck lol.

@@kodavulpedrius6712 you seriously don't need to spend 700 bucks. I just did 3 large tanks (all bioactive, 2 of them I built myself, glass) that probably cost that much if even. 700 for 1 setup is insane. I wouldn't even know how you would manage to spend that much on one tank. Even with fantastic plants that is overkill. I'd say spend 300-400 (realistic) and either put the remaining 300/400 towards the animal or save it for premium food or put it aside for a vet visit or some unforeseeable stuff. 700 on the tank setup alone is a waste really.

@@pewpewcat7679 Let me rephrase. That would include the gecko, 24x18x24 vivarium, critterkeeper, ceramic heat emitter, thermostat, ceramic heat emitter, LED lighting. For decor and such it will be cork rounds, cork flats, reptivines, manzanita wood, feeding ledge, leaf litter, moss, a massive load of specific plants, substrate and the layers, foam and silicone for background. It also includes woodlice and springtail cultures as well as their own enclosures, which will be plastic tubs. With that money, also feeder breeding colonies and their setups in a little rack system. I will hopefully breed silkworms, mealworms, crickets and dubia roaches. Their setups will also be bioactive, but without alot of plants, maybe mosses. For the dubia and crickets, largish tubs. The money ALSO includes calcium and vitamin powders, atleast 3 different powdered gecko diets, gutloader for insects and I might be missing a few things. Keep in mind also, I live in South Africa, and these types of things are pricier here than in Europe or North America. Am I going overboard, yes. Does the animal need all of this, no. Am I rich, FAAAAAAR from it lol. I just want to do it because Im only going to get one crestie, and hopefully with all the other bug setups, they will help with future reptiles as well.

Really kool to take the time out to show a basic crested gecko set up. Video's exactly like this help reptile owners while growing the overall hobby. I consider myself a more experienced gecko owner... But always learn a ton of information from you in so many of your video's. Really dig the two pangea magnet food bowl holders on each side of the tank for the vines/branches.A great sturdy elevated solution to use the upper tank space area. Will be using that idea in the future for my dozens of glass enclosures. Suction cups drive our household crazy constantly falling.. Especially with our larger adult crested geckos. While I will go with a lil larger outside magnet for the food bowls with my enclosures with multiple geckos. I couldn't agree more when you brought up the one time enclosure set up fee being cheap for animal that lives twenty years... Thank you for continuing these high informative video's.. Always love learning.

I still don't have a crested gecko my birthday is September 3rd. I have 7 pythons but im gathering and researching as much information as I can before I pull the trigger, and also I cannot find a super dalmatian, spotted ,ink spots, confetti. Crestie anywhere! unless they are like thousands!? a local pet store had a baby dalmatian for 88$ I should have jumped on that! but my husband said no. Wait bc we didn't have the setup yet etc. Plus it was like a week till payday but, He said it will still be there by your birthday and nope! someone smarter than me bought it so fast its gone! and thats the only healthy dalmatian I've seen in my area. In months! im getting discouraged, and my birthday is going to be a bust now :(

Have you tried Morphmarket? Tons of breeders from all over the USA list reptiles for sale on that site. Currently right now there's 1480 crested geckos listed for sale on it. You can filter by price, morphs, traits etc.. Also there is a Morph Map that you can look up for whatever reptile type you want. It shows a map of all the breeders on morph market that sell that kind of reptile that have current listings. Just zoom in on your state and you can look and see If any breeders are within driving distance of you. It shows their location on the map. If you click on the name then it will take you to their profile page on morphmarket where you will be able to see their phone number, email, Facebook etc. it's worth calling some of because sometimes they don't always have all of their geckos listed on Morphmarket. Hope this helps.

I didn't read through all the comments, so forgive me if this is repeated, but I've got a little trick for hanging decor up high. Fishing line. You don't need to widen the holes of the mesh top, it holds plenty of weight with a high test line, it's practically invisible, and it is really easy to work with.

I would definitely mention that taking on the responsibility of keeping reptiles, money will definitely be spent. Some items can be affordably bought but others are best to buy quality over affordability. Getting the animal is easy. The set up, however, is where it gets expensive when done correctly. 👍🏻

It's worth noting that the log hide presented at 9:55 is absolutely notorious in colubrid communities, as the narrow top portion is also hollow, unfortunately leading to many very small animals becoming stuck inside it. I always recommend plugging it up with aquarium sealant or other animal-safe silicone to prevent tiny reptiles from being able to squeeze in.

I have 3 currently, 12x12x18 for a grow out juvenile, an 18x18x36 and an 18x24x36 for my breeders. I don't have the room to do all the tanks like that but once you get them setup and add the isopods and spring tails, the only thing you need to clean is the glass and the food dish. I had tried several as pets but honestly they really don't want to interact with you even though I have had some that would come to me to be let out of their cage. I rent and can't afford the pet fee for a dog or cat and wound up getting a parakeet (named him Merlin) because management doesn't care about if you have a bird. It was a excellent choice as he's extremely personable and social and wants to interact and spend a lot of time with me, rather similar to a cat or dog. He's definitely been an excellent companion pet for me.

  • @erikbrush
    @erikbrush 3 роки тому +16

How is it that you miss the natural and inexpensive solution? Your method to display vines is mediocre at best. You've overlooked the obvious. How it escaped you I'm not certain.
Add actual branches into the enclosure. Crested geckos are arboreal animals that climb trees and limbs well. You can entwine the vines around the branches and this is a MUCH better solution than feeding rings, suction cups, and screen or ridge hooking.
The point of vertical terrariums and vivariums is to afford the animals an environment that mimics their natural habitat. This includes multiple vertical or slightly diagonal wooden limbs in their tank.
In addition to vines it's a good idea to add a hide/shelter and foliage for them as they are predominantly crepuscular and nocturnal.
Multiple limbs creating a vertical backdrop will allow the geckos to make short leaps to other limbs. A small hide can be suspended atop one of the background branches and concealed with moss.
This will add even more security since arboreal animals prefer height when resting as a refuge from potential predators. The closer to the top the more at ease your gecko will become.
Most of the video gives good pointers, but the fact that your set up is so weak vertically makes the inclusion of a couple of artificial vines almost an afterthought of little provision for these animals.
Plants can also be added. Whether artificial for easy maintenance, or live. And if you add live plants a vine that is hardy, creating ground cover and can be trained to climb limbs added to the enclosure is "creeping fig" ficus pumilo."
The more natural you can make your habitat and the closer to conditions found in the wild, the better health, vigor, and behavior you will get from your gecko.

    • @adelinaborden8109

It’s okay for adults. But it’s usually recommended thst babies be kept in a smaller container! You need to keep track of whether they eat or not. Especially when they’re tiny. When they’re a bit bigger you can transfer them over. With Crested geckos it’s actually weight over age too. So I reccomend an affordable kitchen scale that measures 0.1g.

    Hello,
the whole setup looks functional and that is the most important thing. I mean using this kind or that kind of moss is secondary and the rest is question of taste - personally I do not like the vine because it looks artificially. What I am really interested in and what really lacks in the setup is lighting. I guess you are planning to set some, so my question is: What type of lighting are you going to install in this terrarium? Generally, all seems to be ok, so keep on doing. And all the best for you and your geckos. :)

Crested geckos are not diurnal, you don't need to add extra light! Light from a window is perfect for them. If they are in a dark area without windows your household lights are fine. So many people trying to force bright lights onto these poor animals. The sun works fine for my geckos, their circadian rhythms have never been off.

I’m so confused why it’s so common to make such bland, open tanks? Maybe I’m not up to date but I’m fairly sure Cresties like to have plenty of plants to hide around in. I have a crestie and I spent prob $20 total getting everything for her tank. Dollar tree, Amazon, Walmart, etc have plenty of cheep fake plants for at least a temporary tank. My crestie has always loved how many plants she has, often sleeping/resting in the fake plants instead of her hides, loves to sit and hunt on the flowers, etc. again maybe cresties do like an open tank? Mine loves her tank tho and it’s really pleasing and realistic to look at!

Just buy the best cages and accessories, is expensive? Yes! But the inversion will be once in life, also if you can't buy all the setup better don't get an exotic animal. Another option is buy little by little, month by month the accessories and later when you have everything, get the animal, they won't go anywhere and won't get extinct. My opinion. Hugs.
