Reptiles hear. I don’t know why anyone would think they don’t. Lizards have clear external ear holes. Snakes do not have external ears, so it might look like they don’t have ears, but they have internal ears. This doesn’t mean they can’t hear. If you cover your ears you can still hear. It’s thought that snake ears pick up vibrations from the ground more to listen to predators. So reptiles hear. Sound cues can help just as much as visual cues.
haha exactly, thats the problem with youtube comments, people can claim to be an expert on anything "Snakes don't have ears, and can't hear, therefore your gecko cant hear you" 😂
I've had my male crestie for almost 4 years and hes at a point where when he sees me come home he comes out and climbs on the door. If hes not out where I can see him, he also knows "wanna come out?" and will climb out and come to the door where he waits to climb on my hand. My female is less trusting and gets extremely stressed if she spends more than a couple minutes outside her cage, making progress with her though, she actually came out and climbed on my hand last week and didn't chirp non stop.
Some tip I'd like to share (which works for any reptile really) is to define spaces inside the enclosure where you will never touch your animal and spaces where they will be handled. That way your animal will learn over time that when it's in a particular space it won't be bothered so it will go there when it really doesn't want to be exposed to you. On the other hand when you only handle your gecko when it's sitting in a particular space it will learn to go there when it doesn't mind your presence. For example in my enclosures I leave the entire left half as my reptiles private zone. They will only be touched on the right side and only handled when they come to the right corner of the sliding door where I let them climb onto my hand all by themselves. As soon as I sarted with this method I realized my animals being much more relaxed during handling sessions. It takes quite some time but the effect is really rewarding.
Fantastic! i love my Burt! he fires right up when he sees me, Sophia on the other hand, runs like a basilisk when she sees me. i have learned to leave her alone. This is a very good tip that i will be sure to pass on to others!
our family gecko is absurdly friendly, the corner of his tank is both his little basking spot and his hang out spot for humans. hes such a sweetheart, he seems to have PTSD from dropping his tail cuz he bites sometimes when he's being picked up, but he calms down when he learns we're not the humans that stole his tail. i have a bearded dragon with a little log near his door and he crawls onto it whenever he wants out or wants love. he never jumps out unless i put my hand under him so he knows its okay
omg I thought I was the only one my leo likes to watch her leos, she will just stare at the screen (she's not trying to attack) and she will just it there and watch (I turn my brightness down so its not too bright)
She's so pretty! A very gentle touch goes a long way with crested geckos. I agree with you that frequent or daily handling is important. My crestie will hang out in my hand or on my arm or shoulder. Sometimes it's for about 20 minutes or sometimes he will want to just sit with me for an hour or more. Watch your cresties body posture, if they look comfortable and relaxed or if they're in the ''S'' posture. I notice lots of times that my guys eyelashes fold in almost as if he were sleeping when he's enjoying his time with me. Time and patience are key. Great video!
I’ve almost had my first crested gecko for three years and the only reason I got one was because of your videos. I recently got my second and its all thanks to you.
I think one reason people claim lizards and geckos cant "love " you is because reptiles cant show much facial expression, especially when they can even blink, they show love just not the way most people recognize it.
It's actually because they don't have that part of brain what us humans have to be able to "love" they can however trust you and feel close to you that way but not love, they honestly don't give a damn about us
I think they can associate good things with a scent or something visual, like they can associate bad things/fear with certain things, if that makes sense. Like I imagine when my geckos hear me call their name they just pop up like :O "ooo its the lady with the fooooood!" haha
Actually reptiles lack the part of the brain that is responsible for complex emotions that higher evolved animals have. On top of that geckos aren't the brightest even among reptiles. That's why their body language is so reduced. They simply don't need it for survival. They can't love you but you can train geckos and every other reptile to associate you with survival.

Great video! As for hearing.. my aquatic turtles only has a circle on the skin indicating their ears and yet their hearing is fascinating. They learn to tell humans apart especially by voice, they have learned to recognize phrases and sounds and what those sounds represent like good morning, good night, hello, feeding noise etc. My mom and I look super similar and the only time they met her they could tell us apart and if my turtles can do that - so can geckos! My first turtle pair in childhood became so tame that when I lifted them out of the water they relaxed the legs like ragdolls and one liked head scratches/rubs a lot and the other loved gentle foot rubs so again, if this species of turtle can - so can your gecko. :p because turtles are probably the least human bound possible and hopefully it can give hope to someone. The more you stack positive experiences on their terms and gradually (like any early relationship you gain trust by respecting someone's body and space) the further you will succeed. :) I am doing research currently to possibly get a crested gecko, fingers crossed that we're compatible. ^^

I got my new crestie 2 weeks ago 😊 Starting today I am in the process of trying to have my juvenile crestie trust me at a young age as I'm trying not to scare it or have it be afraid of me 😔, I tried the food on a stick part that you gave the tip on in this video and it worked! Just that my gecko sorta backed up and bit the end of the plastic spoon of where I had the food on (I don't have anything to use), I don't know if that was the same feeding method where it launched or if it got a little mean and said: "No more" but these tips are very helpful and I will keep following them 😊 Thank you very much for this video! ❤
My crestie Flame’s tank is next to my Leo Velvet’s tank, so when I go to feed her, he often comes out and jumps up and down on the glass until I get him out. 😂 He’s about six years old now, and I’ve had him since he was only about 2 months old.
Im here because my reptile-raising friend told me to look up crested geckos, and I initially thought from a picture they looked like they'd mess you up if you looked at them wrong. Now I'm here and I see they are the derpiest reptile in existence and I love it.
I have a 6 month old albino I bought him at around 2 months old, I was on my way to a breeders house to buy one but I needed to buy some food from the pet store and there he was, in wood chippings in the pet shop with only one hide and a uv lamp (bear mind albinos, especially babies have sensitive eyes) and I just felt so bad for it so I bought him on the spot, I had to tell the breeder I couldn't make it lol. I've had him for four months now and have been working on getting his weight higher and tail bigger and he's looking like an ordinary 6 month old healthy gecko :)
I find being gently and holding my leopard gecko a lot helped us bond. Also saying his/her name and not being too loud or quick movements😊 btw love your videos!♥️♥️
I loved this video because I am getting a crested gecko today and I want to be the best owner in the world so I’m just going all over social media and finding how to make your crested gecko love you and this video really helped on that so thank you!
I have a gargoyle gecko hatchling that I’ve worked with to tame and so far it’s been going pretty well. However, today I got a juvenile crested gecko and moving him into his new enclosure was nuts 😂 I tried taking my time and being calm and gentle but he went crazy with the slightest touch (totally understandable and I’m glad you commented on this meaning he’s healthy 😂). These tips are excellent and I’m hoping with time he will become as calm as your girl when he’s out. Thank you ❤️
This video is very helpful and my little Atlas is incredibly well handled thanks to the amazing reptile shop that I went to since he was handled regularly. I'm hoping to try my best to make sure he has only the best quality of life.
A Geico came into my house. He's been here 7 weeks so I must be doing something right. But I think he needs to go outside. For his sake. He sure has grown. Thanks for the videos. I'm trying to figure out how to catch him. When the weather gets nicer I'll open the patio door . Hoping his brother or sister don't move in. Haha.
Hello Rebecca, awe she is so cute. My crestie as well as the other reptiles and other critters are confused right now because of the time change. Last evening my crestie Skittles fell asleep when I was holding her. It was so cute. She was wrapped around my finger like those toys called Fingerlings! I have a real live Fingerling! ❤😀🦎. Great advice on your video. God bless you and yours, Lin
thank you Lin :) aww that's so sweet! I still have their lights on the same time, so I guess they come on an hour different now (technically lol) should probably change that but yeah it gets so dark so quick now, even I think its time to sleep lol
My new crestie Tangie seems to be a very social lizard if that makes sense, I adopted her from my local pet store and moved her into a more roomy tank that is also a bioactive set up and she seems to be really loving it and showing it by wanting to be handled, all I have to do is put my hand infront of her when she’s in the open area of my tank and will just want relax with me for a few minutes before I put her back so I don’t stress her out
I’ve only had leopard geckos and I’ve been really wanting to get my first crested gecko. I’m still really nervous and have been constantly doing research. I’ve been watching all your videos and I adore them! If anyone else has any other tips I would really appreciate them as well. ❤️
My crested is but a mere feeble baby; however lately when I go to put him back in his cage after handling, he doesn't want to go in and tries to stay with me. It is very cute and I am growing quite fond of the gecko
Crested geckos are great. I have two and when my female is awake and she sees me she will run up to the glass wanting to be taken out. My male crestie climbs up the glass and stares out intensely when he’s ready. They’re so cute ❤️
I have one question and one question only... let’s say that they don’t finish their food should I take out the food or keep it there... and how many times should I feed it like per day? Ik they are all different but I just want to make sure of everything before getting one
I’ve tried every trick in the book and my gecko is always skittish. He’s a male almost a year old and I’ve had him for 9 months. He’s been like that since he was a baby. I’ve done everything you suggested but it stresses him out so much that he won’t eat. So I am scared to be consistent with him because I don’t want him to refuse food and starve. Have you had this problem and if so how did you fix it?
I have a question: Is it okay to bring my gecko out of the cage even if it scares him? Whenever I put my hand flat in there, he just ignores it. Stares at it for a while, then crawls away. So, a few times, I tried picking him up by sliding my index finger underneath his chin and all that good stuff and bringing him out of the cage. But then, he gets scared and immediately tries to get back into his home. Should I keep doing this? Will he get used to it if I keep it up, or will it just stress him out? Like I said, I did it a couple of times, but I'd rather not do it again until I know for sure whether or not it's the right thing to do.
I often wish I had an British accent. :( How long did it take for you to get Lara to react to your name? I got my first crested Gecko yesterday and mine was born on January 2023 so it is still a baby. I was so happy when today in the early afternoon (what I thought was strange since they are nocturnal?) ate 2 small crickets dusted with vitamins. I also saw him/her lick off some water of the plants. I am happy because I know there is something inside its stomach.
Hey so I got a crested gecko about a month ago. And he’s not adult yet but nearly there. Not sure on his age. But he isn’t eating really. And neither is he very active as in I hold him and he can be but he’s happy just sitting on you also but he’s not very active in his enclosure and I’m pretty sure doesn’t eat by himself I have to feed him every evening and I use a spoon for the Pangea/ repast I use. He may not even take it sometimes so I try out it near/ abit on his mouth to entice him to eat which usually works a bit. But he’s not a big eater at all and he looks like he’s losing weight (he wasn’t really chunky or anything when I got him anyway) Maybe he’s not a big eater but I was wondering if this is Normal as I often see that Lyra is really big food and is quite chunky while meeko (my crestie) really isn’t into food and won’t eat unless I entice him. I have no idea what to do please can I just have tips or help or something. Maybe he’s just meant to be a smaller boy? Or i have no idea. But I do have 3 different repashy flavours 2 different Pangea flavours and 2 Komodo ones just to see if he will like anything but he’s still not really into anything
I had the same issues with mine in his early months but I moved him onto insects for food and then left palgea in there for him he always eats insects he wouldn't eat any insects at first but he now eats meal worms and calcium/wax worms like nobodies business hes still kinda small though

Thank you because of these tips I have strengthened my bond with my gecko 😁
All your crested gecko vids are really helping me! im planning on starting with reptiles and i want my first reptile to be a crested gecko.
Thank you for the awesome tips. Me and my baby crestie had our first holding time today, surprisingly she was calm and didn't jump.
Im here because my reptile-raising friend told me to look up crested geckos, and I initially thought from a picture they looked like they'd mess you up if you looked at them wrong. Now I'm here and I see they are the derpiest reptile in existence and I love it.
I left for four days and my creasted gecko was like you better NOT TOUCH ME
I have a 6 month old albino I bought him at around 2 months old, I was on my way to a breeders house to buy one but I needed to buy some food from the pet store and there he was, in wood chippings in the pet shop with only one hide and a uv lamp (bear mind albinos, especially babies have sensitive eyes) and I just felt so bad for it so I bought him on the spot, I had to tell the breeder I couldn't make it lol. I've had him for four months now and have been working on getting his weight higher and tail bigger and he's looking like an ordinary 6 month old healthy gecko :)
I’ve only had my gecko 11 months and he comes out every time he sees me ❤️❤️
I find being gently and holding my leopard gecko a lot helped us bond. Also saying his/her name and not being too loud or quick movements😊 btw love your videos!♥️♥️
thank you :) yes definitely haha :)
Omg, all of your pets are soo cute!!❤️🦎
thank you :D
I loved this video because I am getting a crested gecko today and I want to be the best owner in the world so I’m just going all over social media and finding how to make your crested gecko love you and this video really helped on that so thank you!
I think this video is super helpful because I got my crested gecko in August and he never liked being handled so hopefully these tips work!
Thank you ❤️
How is your relationship with your crestie now?
I'm a tad bit new here and I was wondering what morph Lyra is as she is absolutely gorgeous
I think she's a partial pinstripe?? I'm not for sure
This video is very helpful and my little Atlas is incredibly well handled thanks to the amazing reptile shop that I went to since he was handled regularly.
I'm hoping to try my best to make sure he has only the best quality of life.
I'm going to get a crested gecko soon and this video helped. Thx!!!
Hi! So today I got a crested Gecko tank! And this is helpful! So thank you very much I shall subscribe and like! :)
sksksks the pupils in the dark are so big and cute!!
That's a beautiful Crested!
Yes I’ve been wanting a video like this! Thank you this was so helpful!
awesome, no problem :D
I just got two baby crested geckos and they are the most sweetest thing in this world!! I named them dawn and dusk
My new crestie Tangie seems to be a very social lizard if that makes sense, I adopted her from my local pet store and moved her into a more roomy tank that is also a bioactive set up and she seems to be really loving it and showing it by wanting to be handled, all I have to do is put my hand infront of her when she’s in the open area of my tank and will just want relax with me for a few minutes before I put her back so I don’t stress her out
The video was very informative!! I’m a new cresties owner and I was so worried about not doing it right. Thank you!!
Very beautiful crested gecko! I'm in love with the eyes♡
She’s so cute! 💜
Used many of these tips on my chamleon and my leachie 👌 Since these are relatively common socializing techniques you can use them on most reptiles.
me: pspspsps mushuuuuuuuuuu
mushu: wtf u doin crazy being
I got my creative today and he super chill and doing great in his exo terra
Those tactics totally worked for my Gecko
Thank you Rebecca I have been wanting this video for a while 💗
Amazing and informative content as usual! Thank you!!
thank you :D :D
I’ve only had leopard geckos and I’ve been really wanting to get my first crested gecko. I’m still really nervous and have been constantly doing research. I’ve been watching all your videos and I adore them! If anyone else has any other tips I would really appreciate them as well. ❤️
“This is how you pick up a crested gecko”
*Picks up gecko off camera*
I love your videos. This helped me get my own crested gecko.Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Great, helpful information! Thank you. I have two very young babies that I want to be sure to get their handling right!
My crested is but a mere feeble baby; however lately when I go to put him back in his cage after handling, he doesn't want to go in and tries to stay with me. It is very cute and I am growing quite fond of the gecko
I only have a leopard gecko but i still listened to all of this.
thank you :D :D
She’s big and healthy. Had my crestie 10 years
Crested geckos are great. I have two and when my female is awake and she sees me she will run up to the glass wanting to be taken out. My male crestie climbs up the glass and stares out intensely when he’s ready. They’re so cute ❤️
Levi Ackerman are they housed together?
I have one question and one question only... let’s say that they don’t finish their food should I take out the food or keep it there... and how many times should I feed it like per day? Ik they are all different but I just want to make sure of everything before getting one
Thanks your #1 fan
Thanks for the tips, a lot of our reptiles are more display right now but really want to get more hands on work with them
Great video as always. Thanks for the tips.
thank you :) no problem :)
I’ve had my gecko for about 3 years now. Is it too late to use these tips?
No
Thank you, you are soo awesome! I will definitely use these tips with my crested gecko! His name is Sweet Leaf and I love him dearly!!
Yay! A new video!
wooo :)
I needed my good 'ol dose of Leopard Gecko at 11:30 at night! :D
woooo :) haha
I got my new crested gecko today and she is a juvenile like 2 months old and she is really jumpy when should I start handling her?
This video is great! Because I'm getting my crestie on sat
ah perfect timing then haha, good luck :)
But he’s not a big eater at all and he looks like he’s losing weight (he wasn’t really chunky or anything when I got him anyway)
Maybe he’s not a big eater but I was wondering if this is Normal as I often see that Lyra is really big food and is quite chunky while meeko (my crestie) really isn’t into food and won’t eat unless I entice him.
