Very cool to see an area that I genuinely never knew existed. For all the times I played, it never occured to me that the rogue stone actually has a use like that. Pretty neat! :)
A much much more interesting fight than Kangaxx imo and very well done. I like the way you approach this fight, going into the room instead of bulking up in the entry area. Also big props for once again using some lesser known - or at least lesser used - spells. One of the better episodes so far imo when it comes to the tactical aspects in a difficult boss encounter.
Thank you so much, glad you liked it! It's a bit unfortunate that Repulse Undead didn't produce better results (that it is capable of). Still, always a fun fight! It's kind of interesting that there's so much going on in it, but a lot of the battle is decided in those crucial first 2-3 rounds.
True, plenty of things can go wrong here if not properly prepared....well that goes for many of the tougher fights I guess. Never used repulse undead in this encounter but will give it a shot in my current run. Nothing better than trying out new tactics :)
i dont comment on videos too often but really wanted to pop by and let you know that i LOVE the playthrough. great tactics as always and i truly appreciate your efforts to show spell variety and your skill in making them work. ive never used dolorous decay for example. great work!!
I'm always happy to see people appreciate and enjoy the parts you mentioned - although there are clear winners on every level of spells, some of them, even if not that useful in general, can still be effective in the right circumstances. Thank you very much for your support and taking the time to write the comment!
dude nice video - nice explanation on the twisted rune - i am a big fan of the organization and actually there are not many people who know about it in real life as well ... nice one - on mentioning the rumor as well in amkethram!
Nice job i been learning a lot from your tactics. I do not think i have ever used repulse undead or dolorous decay and i never knew avoid death made you immune to level drain or imprisonment all this time i could have used it against demi liches.
Just dealing with a busy schedule. I'm never satisfied when there are breaks in uploads but sometimes it's unavoidable. On the bright side, though - a new episode just went up! :+)
I never did find the Twisted Rune, but have seen another playthrough of it. Which was solved by placing multiple spike traps on the spawn points. A total fudge, fuggedit! It would be very much ingame if creatures like TorGal, The Hidden and Lagole Gon were working for the Twisted Rune without knowing it; and possibly even the Red Wizards, who might not know as much as they think they do.
I enjoy the series still very much, but I am confused about the cloud kill against Shangalar. Isn't he supposed to be immune to spell level 5 being a lich?
There are some holes in the spell level immunities of Liches and they differ from Lich to Lich (some have it implemented better than others). I usually try to not use level 1-5 spells on them, even if they would work (like using the lvl 6 True Sight and not the lvl 5 True Seeing, even though it works in most cases). The Cloudkill here must have slipped my mind - I would have used other cloud spells to make Shangalar's casting more difficult.
Nice fight mine went completely differently took me 6 attempts, i play on tactical with most components of scs installed shangalar and the other mage started with timestop and summoned instantly 3 pit fiends, 2 cornugons and 2 djinns and then casted sphere of chaos so a very hectic fight - took down the vampire in a few seconds with my over the top buffed cleric( main char) with crom frear - i used imoen, nalia and a simulacrum from nalia to bombard the area between the mage and the elder orb with remove magic and went over to remove the protections asap from those with these 3 - my second created char (archer) concentrated on taking down the djinns in the meantime - minsq and my archer then took down the beholder quickly - jaheira casted storm of vengeance soon as the fight started and then tanked the fighter - i had 2 arial servants and 2 mordenkainen swords just distracting shandalar - then had everybody taking down all the demons one by one - finally shandalar was left and could concentrate all on him the whole thing took me about 40 secs fighting and 4 mins pausing and thinking and this is what makes scs so much fun it almost plays like chess but you have to have an absolute passion for the game to play scs and ascension i think this is not for casual gamers. this is my first time through the game with the mods really looking forward to TOB and abazigal and the final fight in particular wich will be very tough i think. im missing one thing from your playthrough and that is the icewind dale spells, makes it even more fun but this is the best guide on youtube thx alot!!
Thank you for the kind words, glad you're enjoying the playthrough! Good job with your fight! Totally agree on SCS and Ascension - they are amazing additions to the game. Good luck and have fun with the ToB battles!
@Mivsan_NT, that was one quick fight! My attempts lasted for half a day. What was your party level? My party of 6 is at 14/15, all single classes. I had a disadvantage, though. I didn't know liches are immune to spell levels 1-5. But secret word worked. Does the game explain such creature statistics anywhere, or do we need to google it? I prefer searching for hints in the game. I've never finished the whole Saga and I find this SCS quite challenging at times. I don't know the game well, so my prebuffing is subpar, and usually I don't prebuff. I am more into storyplay. In this twisted rune fight, only half of my party survived. Thank you for your answers! I like your D2 playthrough!
Hey, thank you for the kind words! In this playthrough, my party was freshly after gaining High Level Abilities (3 million experience) - most of their levels were around 18. Imoen's (joined late) and Jaheira's (multi-class) levels were a little behind, while Anomen was ahead of the group in experience. Unfortunately, the game provides only limited information about monster abilities and immunities. Sometimes it happens through dialogue or written hints (like the book "Elminster's Ecologies"), but usually one has to experiment in game or refer to classic Dungeons & Dragons knowledge. Congratulations on defeating the Twisted Rune - beating the fight with SCS active is a nice achievement! The mod does indeed add a lot of challenge, but I hope you're enjoying the experience.
Nice to see someone do the fight without spamming traps.
Very cool to see an area that I genuinely never knew existed. For all the times I played, it never occured to me that the rogue stone actually has a use like that. Pretty neat! :)
I liked this fight better than the Kangaxx one. Great preparation and selection of spells. I learned alot!
Thank you!
It's definitely one of the most interesting fights in Shadows of Amn.

Where are new episodes?
Cant wait for my daily dose of BGII
Just dealing with a busy schedule. I'm never satisfied when there are breaks in uploads but sometimes it's unavoidable.
On the bright side, though - a new episode just went up! :+)
Wow so neat... I always finish this fight with like half the party dead.
I don't like using cloudkill cause enemies don't know to run from it.
I never did find the Twisted Rune, but have seen another playthrough of it. Which was solved by placing multiple spike traps on the spawn points. A total fudge, fuggedit!

@@Mivsan_NT Thanks for elaborating on that!

shangalar and the other mage started with timestop and summoned instantly 3 pit fiends, 2 cornugons and 2 djinns and then casted sphere of chaos so a very hectic fight
- took down the vampire in a few seconds with my over the top buffed cleric( main char) with crom frear
- i used imoen, nalia and a simulacrum from nalia to bombard the area between the mage and the elder orb with remove magic and went over to remove the protections asap from those with these 3
- my second created char (archer) concentrated on taking down the djinns in the meantime
- minsq and my archer then took down the beholder quickly
- jaheira casted storm of vengeance soon as the fight started and then tanked the fighter
- i had 2 arial servants and 2 mordenkainen swords just distracting shandalar
- then had everybody taking down all the demons one by one
- finally shandalar was left and could concentrate all on him
the whole thing took me about 40 secs fighting and 4 mins pausing and thinking and this is what makes scs so much fun it almost plays like chess but you have to have an absolute passion for the game to play scs and ascension i think this is not for casual gamers.
