- After weeks of practicing, Kaitlyn's big day is finally here!
I'm going to take you into my home to show you her first public performance.
Playing in front of people is a big step in every piano player's journey. Kaitlyn has only been learning for a few months, so it's an extra big step for her.
Yes, there might be some small mistakes, but that's all part of the learning process.
There's still time for you to hold your own little Christmas concert. Or could hold a mini-concert any time of the year. It's a fantastic way to motivate you to practice, help you overcome stage fright and really enjoy playing the piano.
The smiles on everyone's faces will be worth it, trust me.

Was wondering which wld be the common keys to play in, with family singing. Never gave that a thought. I hoping to play at home this Christmas if I don't chicken out before... Ha ha yes nervous. @pianote loved the way you played White Christmas. Wish you n yours a Merry Christmas 🎄
I love the key of C for common keys, becuase most people can sing within that range. D is also good.
But what I would suggest is looking at the music first - and noticing the melody notes. What's the highest? What's the lowest? As long as those notes are within a C-D range I think it should be ok :)

So beautiful, both of you. I'm inspired by Kaitlyn to practice and do the same song.
The only persons I have ever played for were those who lived my same home and my instructors (6 of them) until the Sunday before Christmas this year. Both the pianist and the backup pianist were out with Covid. So I played Jesus Loves Me, Nothing But the Blood and Our Great Savior before and after services for some music.

Great job Kaitlyn for doing this. Putting yourself out there, just starting out, is not easy. I started playing 🎹 (much later in life) & have been playing over 8 years, volunteer playing at senior residence & medical rehab facilities. AND STILL GET NERVOUS......😳. But it gets more comfortable with experience👍. People really appreciate hearing music. I hope you find it as fulfilling & fun. Merry Christmas to you, Lisa (and of course Maya🐕).

Great tips! I've been playing piano most my life but was always way too nervous to play at my grandma's annual Christmas Eve party. I finally mustered up the courage to play Christmas music (just in the background) a couple years ago and am so glad I did!

That was fun! Good job, Kaitlyn! First time I played for family, I forgot everything even though I could play the song well when I was alone. And since I'm not a good sightreader, I couldn't just read the notes on the page in order to struggle through. It was a pathetic disaster. I'm glad Kaitlyn's performance was a success!

@@PianoteOfficial Things aren't much better. I know if you keep playing in front of others, you supposedly get used to it, but I can't do it. I just play for my own enjoyment and am OK with that.

Great job Kaitlyn. I played last year at Christmas for the family but I do not think I will be playing this year. My mother-in-law only has an organ and even though my hubby thinks the organ and the piano are pretty much the same thing, 🙄I hate playing on the organ..LOL So for me it will be turning on some Christmas music and letting it play for our entertainment.

Hey Lisa, this is so good!! And Katelyn did a really nice job on this!! She should bee proud. So what I think is this as a pianist for Christmas. I don’t know why but I have had talks with people at work about this. I play keys all the time at work, of course, and the pianos that I play are really nice sounding, but for some reason, durring the Christmas season, I feel the sound really comes out like bells. I don’t know why that is that the piano seems like it sounds different on Christmas than the rest of the year hahaha!!!! It is like audiable jewelery. I mean the grands just seem to have a different sound to them like they are shining in the wonderland of winter. So the other thing i like to do is when I am not at work, and I am at home on the digital piano, I will play Christmas songs, but I will jazz them up so it sounds like big band style. It is pretty awesome and gives flavor to the music at home. I will play every year Cool Youl and jaz it up so the big band sounds. Then, I will play the piano part along with the tracks I layed down. It is pretty awesome. Have you ever done that before? If you have the Ensomble digitals you can do that.
