  • The title says it all. Here are 3 tips that can make you sound instantly better on the piano.
These are NOT really complicated and you don't have to be an advanced player to be able to benefit from them.
All you'll need are some basic chording skills and understand how to play some simple chord progressions.
If you're looking for lessons on those, we have a couple here:
    The 1-5-6-4 Progression:
    ► • The 1-5-6-4 Chord Prog...
The basics of chords and chording (Chord Hacks - FREE series)
Here are the 3 tips with their timecodes:
    - #1 - Using arpeggios - 0:37
    - #2 - Using chord inversions - 1:33
    - #3 - Using slash chords - 4:15
I LOVE using slash chords to help me get out of a creative rut because they can change the mood of the song instantly.
So try them out and let me know which is your favorite!
If you want some songs to try them out on, you can get our 500 Songs in 5 Days digital training pack here:

Hey, I have one more tip: When you play a "slash chord" where the bass note is the middle note of the chord (for example if you're playing a G chord with a bass note of B, or a C chord with a bass note of E), try leaving that middle note out of the right hand! For the example of a C chord, you could have an E in the bass and just a C and G in the right hand, so the bass note is the only E. (This works whether or not you play the bass note in octaves.)

Puzzled by your use of the term "first inversion" at 2'05" - by definition, a first inversion has the 3rd at its bass and you have the root at the bass. So your first inversion is actually root position with a slightly different chord spacing. A first inversion has a very different sound, which you demonstrate later when you do put the third and fifth in the bass, and it is these that are 1st and 2nd inversions.
