Great video- as always!! I just want to add something. Don’t shoot the messenger 😮‍💨 But the Better Than Bullion has maltodextrin in it. Maltodextrin can upset the gut biome big time. I steer clear of it 100%. I use a fat free veggie broth in the carton, that doesn’t contain oils. Hard to find organic but I’d choose that over maltodextrin any day. You do awesome work and I love love all your recipes. I have a whole folder just from your content!! I couldn’t be plant based successful without you!

Once again showing why you have one of the absolute best channels on UA-cam --great video! My biggest issue with digestion is the sheer quantity I eat (e.g. my typical bowl of oatmeal is 5 servings of oats, 4 servings of frozen berries and 2 servings of hemp seeds 🙂)

    • @Natalie-nw4po
      @Natalie-nw4po Рік тому +6

Maybe try increasing the calorie density and decrease the volume of food. Ex: cook the oats in soymilk, sub some of the berries for dried fruit or dates, add in some nut butter, or just doing a smaller portion of everything with a smoothie or pb toast or something on the side. When your body is used to a wfpb diet it can usually tolerate more of the nut butters, smoothies, fiber, etc without upsetting digestion :)

I agree. I am a small woman and could never eat the amour shown here. I was having such issues with beans. Well- I was eating a cup plus other stuff. Once I lowered it to a 1/4 cup with other healthy things on my plate- beans were no longer an issue. I can certainly build up over time but I’m just over the moon I can eat beans now.

ALWAYS LOVE your videos, Derek. Thank you ! I have digestion issues sometimes, and I find that KITCHARI is incredible. I keep it super super simple, low salt, no oil, white rice and split mung beans and very wet. This is a life saver when the gut is unhappy. It turns things around quickly. Also, I make homemade kraut and I think it's almost magic to keep the gut happy and those microbiotics thriving. Walking a bit after a meal is also KEY, and many cultures do it, not so much in the West sadly.

Read the book Fiber Fueled! Excellent Book! I fixed my digestion pretty dramatically by following the protocols in the book. Increase fiber, take a prebiotic everyday (I do Benefiber), eat a Sauerkraut every single day. I dumped coffee and my afternoon digestions is SO much better for that.
Also getting rid of constipation. Some don't even know they are constipated because they 'go' every day. But have 'stuff' backed up doesn't mean you'll never go. Having a backed up system causes bad bloating and gas. I took Miralax for a few days and cleaned the pipes, so to speak, and I responded much better to food. I then added the Benefiber and wow by bloating and gas were gone. HOpe this helps.

@@StefanRows hi Stefan 🙋🏻‍♀️ I watched a UK health series a few years ago, which went into this in some detail, with scientific evidence shown. I read somewhere that liquids along with a meal is bad because it dilutes your bile in your stomach. And i do feel better ever since i stopped drinking for my meals. You do create more bile by drinking water but it takes a few hours. So you should only drink a few hours before or after a meal. Didnt know about the swedish bitters and other tips in here, greatly appreciated. Im definetly among the people with some of the worse digestive problems it gets kinda depressing to eat sometimes because you can eat so little variation. Big thanks for the video!

Great video, next time if you like, please consider cooking with red lentils and split peas. These will give you a very nice buttery taste. Also, khichdi tastes amazing with basmati rice, but any rice usually works.
For next time if you like, add some cumin seeds dry to your pot, let them roast, then add some asafoetida (powder you can get at any Indian store. Just a pinch).
Next add your soaked lentils (red and split), their water is pretty nutritious. Consider adding that please.
Mix all and just let cook for a minute. Now add rice and mix again.
Add water to cook all. Stir everything.
Add turmeric, garam masala, chilli powder, cumin powder. Mix all.
Cook khichdi. You could add a bit of miyoko butter to give it taste.
Have it with popaddam (available at Indian store) or air fried potatoes.
Hope you like this recipe 😊

Ginger tea. I just put a small teaspoon of ground ginger in boiling hot water, wait 5 mins and then slowly drink it. Ah, I'm craving one now! 😁
Amazing content and video again, as always, thank you!

If you have digestion problems there is already something wrong with your diet… its a sign from the body that you need to change the way you eat

not necessarily. my gut problems were due to years of severe anxiety. the mind-gut connection is very real.

@@user-fg6hg7ds1v You got this one mixed up. Your anxiety is caused by your damaged gut. Not the other way around.

My anxiety is the result of being confronted with speciesist violences.

When you change foods, you inevitably have digestive problems because you don't have the right bacterial flora. You just have to give it time to do so, by changing gradually (if you do it too quickly, you risk creating intolerances).
      1-2-3-6 months…
Poor people (who still want to eat healthy) eat little meat and a lot of peas and lentils just to save money, not because they have an "adapted intestine". So it's a question of adaptation.
True food allergies are quite rare.
And even a leaky gut is only the result of imbalances, not of a particular food. 🤷🏼‍♀️

One thing I have tried is adding balsamic vinegar to plain sparkling water or flavored. I do add a squirt of liquid stevia for sweetness. Its supposed to taste like a Coke. It kinda does.. Loving your channel! Such a motivator! Enjoy the adventures, workouts and awesome food 🙂
