This series is so great, next one should be Chad Smith, It's super impressive. While the other drumers listened the full song at least one time, Chad just listen 15-20 secs and just went for it, amazing stuff.
I was gona type this, you've saved me the job 👍
I love that video. It's cool to see 2 different guys approach it so differently.
I was going to suggest chad smith as well. Please react to him
At the heart of it, Drumeo is a teaching channel and they bring in all these famous professional drummers to go over techniques, how to play some of their iconic songs etc. As a drummer, I like this channel a lot even though some of it can be a bit technical for non drummers. This series though where they have drummers interpret others' work blindly is simply brilliant. It really shows how talented some of these people are and how big an impact the drums have on the overall feel of a song.
What really sets the Chad Smith episode apart is that he didn't even listen to the entire song once, he just jumped in and started reacting to what he was hearing. You can tell it was not fake as well as he was consistently way back in the pocket with his transitions since he was hearing what the other instruments were doing in a lot of cases and then creating. He was also able to anticipate certain transitions though which really showed how much he understood song structure.
Mfer jumps in like it's hopscotch lol
AWW HE SEEMS LIKE SUCH A GOOD GUY, AND HE'S CLEARLY A MUSICAL GENIUS!!!!!!!
Dirk created a phenomenal example of how important drums are to the feel of a song. His approach sounded more melancholy to my ear than the original and I think it hits deeper this way. You’ve gotta check out Larnell Lewis Hears Enter Sandman for the First Time on Drumeo. It’s an incredible peek into the mind of a total drum prodigy.
I have some bias because I'm a metal head but I believe Dirk's version is better, not just from a technical point, but as you said it played into the emotion of the song more. His drumming just expresses the emotion of the song way more
@@mbrown7361 yep, exactly! I’m a metal guy too and I much prefer Dirk’s take on the song. The drums he put on that song fit it perfectly. Ronnie’s original writing is excellent and his drums are the driver of that song. Dirk’s version just ticks every box for me at the end of the day.
I'm no musician, but even I can tell that is a highly skilled one. Very impressive.
If you guys don't know of Dirk already, he's one of the best out there. His work in his previous band called Soilwork is some of my favorite metal drumming. It's always super creative and interesting.
Check out Domino Santantonio hears Slipknot for the first time. Also from Drumeo. Happy New Year.
Very good choice sir ^^
Dirk is one of the best out there. His work with Scarve, Soilwork, and Devin Townsend are superb! The live videos of the Deconstruction show with Devin really shows his skill.
In addition to thumbs-ing up the other comments that've mentioned it, I'll add my own onto the pile and suggest the "Chad Smith Hears 30 Seconds To Mars For The First Time" episode of this Drumeo series. It's another one that will blow your minds at how quickly someone can pick up a song (spoiler: He only listens to about 30 seconds of it before he starts playing) and how hard they can nail it. I was aware of Chad Smith before that video; I was a fan after the video.
Also, this Drumeo series is the reason I finally bought myself a drum kit and started learning. So if their goal is to shine a light on some great drummers and inspire people to pick up the instrument (or sit down behind it, I guess), mission accomplished.
Loving your reactions to these, btw! And definitely do some Megadeth! I've never been super deep into them so I'll defer to whatever the super Megadeth fan consensus is as far as which song to react to, but I'll say that, if you want to start with what I think of as the most accessible Megadeth song, "Symphony of Destruction" would be a good one. Or maybe "Angry Again." Good place to start anyway before you go diving into, like, "Hangar 18," "Holy Wars," or "Peace Sells."
They’re all good. I’ve watched people idk cover bands idk and it is still super cool.
Same. Tbh, though, I just love watching artists and craftspeople do what they do. It's endlessly both fascinating and inspiring.
Drummer to seek out on Drumeo is Larnel Lewis.
One of several drummers for Snarky Puppy (jazz band).
Recommend reviewing from the studio recording (with audience in room) “We like it here” (album) Lingus (song). Groundup music nyc (UA-cam channel).
Background in studio work. Brought in last minute to fill role for recording session when other has passport issues. Recorded in Netherlands . Lewis flown from Toronto learned the set on the plane. This played same day he arrived. No prior rehearsals.
you can tell in the first half hes working on what he needs to do till he starts warming into it i love you can see the adjustment period to where he feels comfortable Dirk is an amazing drummer 😎🤘
Watch Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers do The Kill from 30 Seconds To Mars. He doesn't even listen to the whole song he listens to like 10 seconds and then just starts playing its amazing.
Dirk is amazing, as a professional and a person. I had the privilege of meeting him a few years ago, couldn't have been nicer!
I love his cymbal work on this song.
You gotta show Ash more drum playthroughs. Domino Santantonio has a awesome first listen and playthrough of Slipknot and also you cant go wrong with Lornell Lewis playing Metallica. And the godmother of drumming playing Down With The Sickness, honestly they have so many awesome videos. Also show her El Estipario Siberiano. Keep it up guys always love your reactions 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Okay, I recommend Frank Bellucci playing Dragula on Drumeo. He's seriously good. He's an older mostly jazz drummer and to see what someone as experienced as him can pull off in one take is mind blowing. (I think he's probably the best of the series. There's some serious competition though for that claim obviously. 😉)
Remember: One listening - one take.... amazing!
When you wonder what Indy drummers are paid for after hearing Dirk Verbeuren playing the Killers, you‘ll be delighted to hear what Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater did with something as simple as Nickelback in his very first take just few days ago. It’s pure god mode he operates in.
11:00 that commentary about rerecording songs with new drum tracks or bass gave me an idea for what drumeo or similar could do: have a drummer record a new drum track for a song without being able to here original drums like they are here, then take that recording, remove the bass from that and have a bassist write a bass line for it, then do the same for guitars, and then vocals, and then see what the song has morphed into.
I’d watch this, great idea
If you guys wanna make an extra long video (or split it into two parts) I HIGHLY recommend reacting to the interview Sleep Token’s drummer did with Drumeo. It’s so interesting hearing him talk about his influences and how he’s developed as a drummer and they intercut it with video of him performing different songs. He’s a super fun drummer to watch
Watch the Juilliard Jazz Prof playing Nirvana. He figures it out during the first listen.
Megadeth was my favorite band for 30years until The Warning came along. You mentioned Drumeo and Pau is in the running for rock drummer of the year don't forget to vote.
Yes need more Megadeth and The Warning please
who is pau ???
@@PinoSilvestreOriginal Paulina Villarreal drummer and 2nd vocalist of The Warning.
Check out Dust To Dust live at Teatro CDMX you'll see why she is nominated
One listen is impressive....
"Hold my beer" - Chad Smith
React to Megadeth "Holy Wars, The Punishment Due..."
Also Frank Belluci hears Rob Zombie for the first time on Drumeo...
Steven Tyler did one of his song's country style. It's on UA-cam, I hope you can find it. Glam Rock, Rap, Pop, 80's Pop, Country, and Opera music, etc., should not be ignored. I am glad that this drummer did drums for this song (Mr. Brightside). May 31, 2024. USA
Please, please, please do some Megadeth! They are amazing!!
What's absolutely outrageous here is this is him having heard the song once and you're commenting how much it adds to the music.
Imagine if he actually had the chance to sit down and think it through properly, have multiple shots at recording it etc.
greyson nekrutman drumeo vids are all great, hes a sweaty talented boi!
I know Dirk best from Soilworks Stabbing the Drama -album which is one of my all time favorites. You should definitely check something from that.
The Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) Drumeo episode was really good.
The verse interpretation on the drums reminds me of what sleep token is in some ways. Closer to gospel feel
Dirk does another song by Blink 182 " The Edging" on Drumeo as well. Check that one out as well.
I grew up pentecostal so i went a solid 15 years of my life not allowed to listen to other music. Now i listen to literally everything but metalcore is my heart. variety is healthy.
Check out Dirks mienl cymbals clinic with peter wildoer, the latter being my fave, they do a duel drum section, just epic, also all their own demonstrations are fire 🔥
Moin from Germany! I really enjoyed your video! Could you do some stuff on The Aristocrats?
Dirk plays awesome check out the song Well be back by megadeth.
Dirks work can be heard on megadeths newest album
Next on the list...
*chad smith does a 30 seconds to mars
*megadeth drummer listens to paramore for the first time
You should listen to The National (e.g. Squalor Victoria) for some indie music with great drums.
Best thing Dave did for Megadeth was bring on these musicians like Dirk.
AGUANTE DIRK ❤ SALUDOS DESDE ARGENTINA 🇦🇷
The Drumeo videos are fantastic.
Outstanding.
To turn such a bang average pop culture song into something special takes some skill.
You’re on to it!
Bass & Drum being redone might help this.
They could also change the lead & rhythm guitars, synthesizer and all the vocals & lyrics.
After that I think I’m a Killers fan.
LFG!!!
If y'all think this was crazy. You have to check out Chad Smith playing 30 seconds to Mars on drumeo. It will blow your minds!
That one is good but I think this one is better, he adds and changes the feel of the song, chad kicks in and does an amazing job but it doesn't add much to the song in any way in the way this one did
if you want to check out more of Dirk's work you are better off checking out Soilwork instead of Megadeth. He's in Megadeth, but he's a hired gun in Megadeth's famous revolving door of members. He has a signature blast beat named after him and I think in this Drumeo series he said he only snuck it in on the new Megadeth album one or two times.
you guys need to do the Chad Smith drumeo
Hi guys! I love your channel, and I appreciate your reactions to Drumeo. I just recently discovered it myself. Please check out the jazz musician drumming to Nirvana. Thanks! ❤
You have to check out Chad Smith on drumeo next
I loved this take on the song but when I showed my wife she made me turn it off halfway through. She couldn’t reconcile the half-time drums with the original version 😢
I also vote for the Chad Smith Drumeo video. My respect for him as a drummer skyrocketed when I saw what he did - especially when he just rawdogged his take on the song without hearing it all the way through. Amazing.
awesome reaction, will you also react to Dirks interpretation of Paramore's Misery Business?
This drummer is so nice an humble an is complete opposite of my impression of megadeth. Always viewed them as a salty whiney band but this guy is a outstanding human an great drummer.
You should totally react to Holy Wars by Megadeth
I like Megadeth, but I'm more a Marty Friedman fan than anything. His solo stuff is so interesting.. obviously influenced by him living in japan.
Another Drumeo video to consider is Mike Portnoy doing a Nickleback song... :)
React to Dirks break down of Holy Wars, its on the same channel
More DRUMEO
Go watch Alex Melton's 1/2 time drums videos.
He died a bunch of songs like this - slows it down a bit.
Please react to Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on Drumeo doing 30 Seconds to Mars. I know it's been mentioned a few times below, but he is one of only two drummers doing this on Drumeo who did not listen all the way through the song at least once if not multiple times ands just starts right into playing shortly after it starts. I haven't seen all drumeo, but I am pretty sure it's just two. I think you both would really like it.

Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Damn!..... I miss the days of ThrashMetal🤘
Haven't heard anything by Megadeath, but Dirk seems like a super cool guy!
If you're interested in lesser known, definitely underrated drummers, consider checking out Kevin Haskins work with Bauhaus (Dark Entries, Sanity Assassin...) and with Love and Rockets (Kundalini Express, Inside the Outside...).
Daniel Ash, the guitarist/lyricist/vocalist for those bands (and Tones on Tail), created some of the most unique effects I've ever heard, most noteably on Bauhaus' iconic song Bela Lugosi's Dead (live at Riverside, BBC), which may be of interest to you as a guitarist open to exploring other genres.
I heard Death before Megadeth and Metallica. Death shits on both those bands. 😂
Megadeth - wake up dead
I think you should dip your toes into progressive rock. There is a band that has better concept albums than Pink Floyd and doesn’t get the same credit. That band is called The Dear Hunter. They have five albums, that is one concept story. The albums are called Acts 1-5. if anyone else has heard of this band, give them a nudge to react to them.
Chad smith!!
Megadeth wake up dead
Musically megadeth is absolutely not better than Metallica. Megadeth might have a higher technical ability but Metallica writes much better songs. I love both bands and this is not even a question.
Metallica went from trash metal to pop metal....
Megadeth was thrash metal and became Heavy metal with "Countdown To Extinction".
i still can’t believe the killers aren’t british
Why ?
Chad smithhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Please please react to paramore by dirk pleasr
Metallica is by far the better band, the stats and record sale prove it they are the biggest metal band of all time. Megadeth just has more technical ability.
You probably think Taylor Swift is better than both. She sells more albums.
2:05 because Metallica sold out and went hard/pop rock
This is why I dont talk about music. I think Megadeath has a few good songs. Dave can play but his voice ruins it, just like James and Metallica.
Megadeth better than Metallica? Wtf. Is this a comedy channel now? Hammett is miles ahead of Mustaine
Megadeth is better than Metallica. Metallica hasn't released a good album in over 30 years.
LOL
I dislike his drumming. Way too slow.
You forget to mention that Metallica kicked Dave out AND stole his music.
Not a fan. Poor attempt.
Honestly? I think the thing with this song the drum line is just so well known, it's hard to hear something else and appreciate it. Once I'd heard Dirk's version a couple of times, it struck me that it's a much more emotional and epic version of the song than with the original drum line. And he did it in one take. That's mind blowing in itself.
@@MariaBM1 if the song was meant to be played that way Brandon Flowers I'm sure would have thought that's the way to attract listeners.
Instead he did it right as opposed to that crap you call emotional.
Not a fan. Poor attempt.
