Many thanks indeed for these. I've been looking for episodes of this remarkable series that I haven't seen for over 40 years for a long time now. I don't remember specific episodes but remember the distinctive opening montage, sound design and compelling storylines. I don't live in the UK anymore so don't have access to the channel that is broadcasting these again. If you could, please upload more of these gems. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be very grateful indeed. Cheers!
@@majordolbyscat God knows how many times I've searched the internet in vain looking for this series I used to watch in 1975, when I lived in England and my English was rather poor. Nevertheless, I sensed it was beautiful, liked it a lot and still have its soundtrack (with the sad noise of the milk bottles and shouts in its beginning), which I recorded on my portable radio cassette recorder in 1975 to re-experience a bit of it in future together with my young age. Today, though, I've tried the web again and here it was. Powerful! Thank you, Major!

So authentic and so convincingly done. I was living in bed-sitter land in the mid-70s and this series brings back so many memories of that time and the people that inhabited the same properties as me.
You don't need the warning!. 1970's TV had far more challenging stuff than now- and more nuanced. And this was daytime TV!! In not being PC this piece comes closer to the tangled strands and subtleties of human and esp family relationships. We were FAR more daring...and honest then. Wonderful to see again. I was a teenager at the time - so very evocative. Thank you
I was being abused at a similar time in history and there was no real knowledge that this happened or that children were victims. At least, it wasn’t talked about. My mother was very dismissive. This is a very sensitive and skilled and complex portrayal. Thank you ❤️
And it’s despicable the way Susan’s mum is sort of pinning the blame on her at the end when that abusive father knows everything That mum is far too oblivious and stupid to any situation.
Hi; really enjoying this excellent series, great writing many thanks for putting them on. Im 52 now. So, these would have been on when I was at primary School in the day. However, even when off school ill. I can't remember then being on. I lived in Granada TV land.. Does anyone know or remember if they were just on Thames Tv ?? Many Thanks.
Hello Lee, from what information I have gathered over the years and since first discovering this series is, unlike the more popular afternoon series Crown Court, that was regionally broadcast, Rooms had more of a limited distribution to Anglia/LWT/Thames at least that is what info I was able to find on it.
Hi, Thanks for information. I did think that was the case. As, i would have remembered. We indeed had Crown Court, as with Rooms, it was proper gritty, well written stories. I think that's why you had so many good actor's old,and young. I first remember Crown Court when i was 4 or 5. As, The music scared me to Death. Are the any Crown Court episodes? I do know that Granada are very tight on Copyrights. I got a 2 minutes clip of the goals from Oldham athletic v Bolton wanderers in October 1976 They charged me £85 ! And i had to sign a contract forbidding me to show it to the public ie ?You tube etc. Its a shame because Granada TV in Manchester have loads of Dramas, football, music in their archives. However, very little is shown, which is sad. Do you know why Programmes which were on Thames TV and some from Yorkshire TV ,seem to be shown and are left to be shown on UA-cam without copyright. BBC are another we've already paid our TV licences over the years,so we should not have to pay for that Brit box. Another case of us being exploited!! Many thanks for giving us pleasure in you hard work downloading programmes. P.s Is there any machine out there,so i can tape programmes. What a con again, they said "get rid of our Video recorders" there obsolete!! Glad i didnt listen and keep my old boxing and football tapes. Like gold dust now..
A tough subject to tackle but well portrayed by all the cast. Had the story ran to more than the customary two episodes, we might have found out more about the mother's own personal situation, she seemed to be as much at risk as her daughter. Rooms is a great series. I especially like the one with Annette Crosbie but unfortunately it's no longer online.
Dear Major Dolby’s Cat You are amazing (obviously) and better than anyone anywhere (goes without saying), but where the hell is episode three in this story and are you trying to torture us? Yours sincerely - Gaggingforit And-Desperate
Despite a vast amount of content being made private by me, or having it totally removed by third parties, I can say without one tiny doubt in my mind, there was only ever two episodes featuring 'Susan' and, I would like to make it clear that my years of being a sadist are long behind me ;) and its YOU that are amazing.
Oh the secrets we kept & the shame young girls endured, long before child abuse, incest or Child-Line was even thought of, or, heaven forbid, discussed in public. Some things are better today.
The father was Moray Watson he has been in lots of tv shows:Dr Who, Midsommer Murders, The Professionals, Darling Buds of May, Agatha Christie The Body in the Library to name just a few.
I love this series, For the time they were ground-breaking, I doubt if they could make it these days, that sense of innocence has long since faded and audiences now require reality and vulgarity.
I think the parents they’re sort of giving off an over religiously vibe to them and over caring too much when Susan was younger and unfortunately parents never grow up or grow out of that They should just leave her alone.
Jane Wymark…what a solid performance. All class. Thanks for posting. Enjoyed an excellent episode from India
Very welcome

Quite controversial stuff for daytime TV, cant see this happening on Doctors! I cannot express how much I am enjoying these episodes!
Thank you! I will post another six, two part episodes, over the coming month or so. Best wishes
@@majordolbyscat I am really looking forward to watching them, thank you!
Yes, lets make this a double thank you. I cannot wait to watch the other episodes as well....Cheers!! - Peace S

@@majordolbyscat Precisely Major!! We're made of stronger stuff. Loving these episodes. More please!
Really great of you to post these. Thanks. Dark stuff, but compelling.
Cheers for the comment Rob
Powerful then and today, given the time. Thank you.
Very welcome Audrey.
Brilliant....can't believe the story lines....thank you. Powerful
Once upon a time we treated a potential adult audience with respect and weren’t afraid to challenge norms…
0:58 it must have been so much trouble to shut a door by yourself manually in those days.

Shocking parents, poor girl.
The parents should have grown up more inside and out
I have seen quite a few of these, have to say that this was one of the better ones tackling a very sensitive subject.
And it’s despicable the way Susan’s mum is sort of pinning the blame on her at the end when that abusive father knows everything

"As if by magic" like the shop keeper in Mr Benn, keep your eyes on this channel in the near future.
Is there an episode 3 to Susan?
No, like most stories in series one, they were two parters.

Ok, thanks boss. The Susan story would have made a great drama@@majordolbyscat
And an abusive fighting father too.
Remarkably adept performance by a quite young Ms. Wymark....

The mother was Reginald Perrin's wife, the father.. I know his face but can't place him.. and the dashing Nigel Havers.. always dashing
I thought it was him but then thought I was mistaken. Thanks for confirming it. Gosh he was so young.

Totally agree, and considering Rooms was an afternoon television drama, it was in another class then and practically in a different school nowadays.
Moving and very touching, no pun intended..we have lost perception and are being sold down the high tech drain..
