At the time as a child I looked up to him like he was a wise warrior, little did I know he was just a kid. Most of the dudes are just homies trying to keep people safe. Crap goes down in war, and it's crap people really shouldn't have to put up with anywhere. But somebodies gonna fight, and somebodies gotta fight them back. It's not possible to tell perfectly all the time who's right or wrong. At some point some people just gotta do their job, and having mostly good guys doing a job limits how horrible of things will actually get done. So whether you think the US gov is in the wrong or whoever else, most soldiers deserve respect for taking on a terrible job. I particularly like the US ones though, since they're in charge of keeping me safe.

The soldier's name is Sergeant Tom Hunter, this clip came from the documentary 'Restrepo' (2008). The men of Second Platoon, Battle Company, 173rd Airborne Brigade teeter from naivete to weariness as months of alternating boredom and fighting take their toll. The loss of medic Juan "Doc" Restrepo leads the platoon to name an outpost in the remote Korengal Valley after him.

A few other comments on this video have also misidentified this as Sgt James Hunter who did lose his life as the result of an IED explosion on June 18th 2010 in Afghanistan.
